LORAC Pro Palette 2…love, love LOVE!

LORAC Pro Palette 2

I know. That’s pretty much the craziest blog title ever but hey, sometimes keepin’ it simple is easiest. And simply put, I am so in love with LORAC’s Pro Palette 2. I did a post of their original PRO Palette back in 2012 and yes, while I still think it was great, LORAC is giving us richer shades and spectacular eyeshadow formula.

We’re seeing similar shades from the previous palettes but I am loving the the inclusion of the rich Navy and Plum. Seems simple but I don’t know, those additions alone, to me make the palette far more smokey eye friendly.

LORAC Pro palettes

The palette is available for purchase at Ulta.com and I’m pretty sure it will head to the physical stores soon and maybe Sephora? Either way, I think it’ll be a big hit for those that don’t have the original PRO palette. Is it a necessity for those of us that already have that one? Well, c’mon…I’m a beauty blogger.

LORAC Pro Palette 2 packaging

I can find ways to justify many purchases. But in all seriousness, I think this palette is definitely more versatile than the first PRO palette so yeah…you beautiful people can draw your own conclusions.

LORAC Pro Palette 2 on brown girl

Not a bad look using Cool Gray a base, right? I did a video of this baby. I am still so impressed with myself, y’all. Last year I think I did one…maybe TWO videos. This year already I’ve done NINE! Heyyyyy!

Think you’ll grab this palette or naw?

LORAC’s Pro Palette is perfect for us newbies too!

I’ve been doin’ some serious eyeshadow palette lovin’ all season. First there was Too Faced’s Return of the Sexy Eyeshadow Palette  and now LORAC’s Pro Palette. Where in the WORLD have I been? Have y’all seen this palette? The palette that single handily had me putting on eyeshadow?!

Do you see that? That’s me! That’s me wearing eyeshadow. Weeee! But okay, first things first. Say hi to the palette.

I never scooped up either one of Urban Decay’s Naked palettes so I was so excited to see this one. After all, it seemed to embody a lot of what the Naked palettes had: pretty neutrals of various textures. I’m more likely to dive into shades like these instead of vibrant colors anyway. The palette includes 8 mattes and shimmers. The mattes reside on the top with the top with the shimmers residing on the bottom.

And yeah…usually when I get new products that I plan on showing off on the blog, I wait until I photograph them before I showcase ‘em. That so wasn’t the case with this palette. Hence the random smudges. I couldn’t help it, y’all! It was just too beautiful to not touch.

Time for some swatches!

First up, the mattes:

TOP: White, Cream, Taupe, Lt. Pink
BOTTOM: Mauve, Sable, Espresso, Black

And then the shimmers…

TOP: Nude, Champagne, Gold, Lt. Bronze
BOTTOM: Pewter, Garnet, Deep Purple, Slate

Impressive, uh? Both the mattes and shimmers apply absolutely beautifully. The mattes provide rich color and appear creamy on the skin. The shimmers are stunning with a nice and subtle sparkle. Of course I’m a matte lover so those were the ones I found the most use out of. I would have liked to see either the White Cream or Taupe removed and a burgundy in its place. I find that burgundy eyeshadows are spectacular for neutral looks. I could have also done without the 3 similar shads Nude, Champagne and Lt. Bronze. Of course they LOOK different but they are also alike enough to where we could have gotten another shade in the mix. Like a shimmery gray, maybe?

Either way, I think this is a fantastic palette for professional makeup artists, makeup enthusiasts and beauty newbies a like. I managed to crank out several looks using both the mattes and shimmers and I just love how easily the shadows applied. The only downfall would be that applying the shadows can mess up the palette a bit.

Yeah, the fall out is intense. But not so much when applying so I’m okay with that. In fact, I think these shadows will do even better when used wet. I’m not bold enough to try that though. Ha!

Overall, it’s a stellar palette that runs for $42. You can scoop it up at Sephora and Sephora.com.

Mascara Monday: LORAC Special Effects mascara

Dang. It’s been forever since I’ve reviewed a mascara. Probably a good 3 weeks. And to be honest,  me and my lashes needed the break. My lashes are stronger and a bit longer and I’m glad to break my hiatus with a mascara like this. Because, let’s face it – when it comes to mascaras, LORAC can’t do any wrong in my book. And here’s why…

Price: $23 at Sephora and Sephora.com
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “LORAC Special Effects Mascara delivers a double dose of lash beauty. One side is a primer containing natural oils, DL-Panthenol, and plant extracts to revitalize your lashes, making them stronger and softer. The other side features a carbon black Defining and Lengthening Mascara that is formulated with unique polymers to stretch and hold lash shape for clump and flake-free lashes. Both formulas are infused with mother-of-pearl to keep lashes supple, healthy, and shiny.” (source)

The Truth: These wands are epically amazing. Wait. Is epically a word?

What I Loved About It: I’m in love with the wands. They are great for separation and really help elongate the lashes.

What I Didn’t Like: I think the primer has too much of a gel consistency and so it makes the mascara not as long-lasting as I’d like it to be.

Overall: I love everything about the brand LORAC. If you haven’t heard about this brand and you’re in the mood to try somethin’ new, hop to it, girlfriend. I’ve tried everything from their eyeshadow palettes to their Multiplex 3D Lashes mascara. That mascara is effing awesome and so I was wishing on a star that Special Effects would woo me too. And it did! Here’s the thing – it’s one of those dual wands-type mascaras. I ain’t gonna lie….these kind of mascaras are a bit annoying. I’m not always in the mood to apply a mascara primer AND then mascara. I know…it’s not like this insanely laborious task so I really should even complain about it.

Luckily, these beautiful wands make it easier….

Gorgeous right? Both wands are exactly the same and they are quite exceptional. Ideal for those with short and sparse lashes, these wands were easy to wiggle right through my lashes while coating each lash with mascara. However, because the bristles are plastic and not like “brushes”, you won’t get much volume. Which is okay. Sometimes a darn good lengthening mascara can make me forget about the desire for volume.

The primer: Like most primers, this one is white and the gel-y consistency mimics most primers. It’s okay. Not spectacular. In fact, I actually prefer using this mascara WITHOUT the primer. The primer tends to make my lashes soft thus resulting in limited wear time.

When I don’t wear the primer, I find that the mascara lasts a lot longer and my lashes are a lot sturdier and harder. I suppose it’s a preference thing. I’m a gal that prefers lashes on the harder side. Granted, I don’t want them like bricks but if they’re semi-stiff without being damaging, I don’t mind it.

So yeah – this mascara sans the primer gives darn good length and separation with longevity. Score! Gotta love a mascara whose results actually live up to their claims. I can’t tell you how many times this DOESN’T happen. Oh! And this mascara is free from synthetic fragrances, dyes, petrochemicals and phthalates. But it’s not free from parabens. Which is…kinda weird.

Bare Lashes

Do I recommend it?: Absolutely! Especially if you’ve got the pennies to spend on something fancy. Just know that you may like the mascara better without the primer.

Any LORAC fans in the house? What do you think about mascaras that come with primers attached? Do you ever use ‘em?

My Top 4 Favorite mascaras of 2011

I hope no one noticed that I didn’t do a “My Top Favorite Products of 2011” -type list. Why DIDN’T I do one? I was too busy working on a top secret project. Okay, I’m lying. I got lazy and forgot to do one. But what I do have is a list of my Top 4 Favorite mascaras of 2011.

This wasn’t easy, y’all. I came across A LOT of amazing mascaras last year. These kids happened to be the ones that made the cut.

FAIRYDROPS Scandal
Queen mascara

This mascara was everything. Everything! From the packaging to the wand, formula and results, this fiber mascara could have very easily been the only mascara I wore all year. You know…if I didn’t have a mascara blog.

Maybelline Great Lash Lots
of Lashes (LOL) mascara

You knew it was coming, right? I raved about how much I loved this mascara the first time I tried it. Aside from it being a FANTASTIC mascara, it has a really groovy wand (it’s heart shaped!) and was 10x better than the original Great Lash mascara. Go Maybelline go!

Clinique Bottom Lash mascara

I loved this mascara so much that I used it all. I don’t think I’ve ever hit the bottom of any mascara tube. This teeny tiny wonder of a mascara makes bringing out those bottom lashes super easy. And it’s just soooo cute.

LORAC Multiplex 3D Lashes mascara

This one may have come as a surprise because I didn’t brag about it as much as I did the others. But considering it’s a preservative-free mascara, it is fantastic! It has a buildable and long lasting formula that really helps lengthen those eyelashes.

Honorable Mentions:

What were some of your favorite mascaras from last year?

Palette Lovin': LORAC Little Black Palette

Ah yesss ,darlings. Allow me to introduce another beautiful eyeshadow palette.

LORAC’s Little Black Palette is certainly a top contender for one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes for the year.

It’s so sexyyyyyy. Now y’all already know how much I looooove LORAC. Their mascaras rock my world and I absolutely adore their lipglosses. I dig their eyeshadows too. These paraben-free baked eyeshadows are also without sulfates, pthalates and synthetic fragrances and dyes. Winning!

What Sephora has to say about the palette:

“Everyone needs a Little Black Palette! Create long-lasting, hot looks for days, evenings, and after-hours in the city with this must-have palette. Shine in rich golds and bronzes with 4 color-coordinated, mineral-infused, silky-smooth, shimmering Baked Eye Shadows and a mini Behind The Scenes Eye Shadow Primer, all packed in a must-have sleek black case. Buy a little perfection with LORAC’s Little Black Palette—it’s the must-have accessory for every season!”

When it comes to eyeshadow palettes, I’m looking for convenience and quality. This baby comes with an eyeshadow primer and 4 GREAT eyeshadows and so its $33 price point is just right. Like all of LORAC’s eyeshadows, these are shimmery and feel silky smooth on the skin.

While I love the shimmer that they provide, I do kinda wish that there was a matte shadow thrown in the mix.

Definitely not a deal breaker, but what can I say? I’m a gal that loves matte shadows on her browbone. And then there’s the primer…

Cute lil’ kid, isn’t it? I am a picky eyeshadow primer user and while this one is a little too emollient to me, it actually gets the job done.

And even if I was completely against it, I wouldn’t care because the palette itself is just so fantastic. This is the perfect eyeshadow palette for gals who don’t need many options. The foil-y finishes of silver, gold, copper and brown can make for decent daytime and nighttime looks. I’m a no-fuss beauty traveler. I never really WANT to apply a bunch of makeup so this palette is perfect for me. Aaaaand, it’s only $33. I mean, come on…. That’s not bad for a bunch of paraben-free eyeshadows, uh?

So yeah. Just like every gal needs a little black dress, us makeup lovers need little black palettes too. You’ve done good, LORAC. You’ve done good. You can grab this wondrous palette at Sephora stores and Sephora.com.

Whatcha think about this palette? Yay or nay?

4 Mascaras That Totally Rock

Yeah, I know. 4 is such a random number but you know what? Mascaras just haven’t really been impressing me lately. Some have been good but I haven’t come across any that REALLY rock. And so instead of reviewing one this week, we’ll just check out some of the few that I’ve absolutely loved.

#1 LORAC’s Multiplex 3D Lashes mascara

One of the reasons why I REALLY love this mascara is because of the packaging. Crazy, I know. The mascara’s performance is pretty good for one that is without parabens and all of those yucky synthetic ingredients. But come on, let’s face it. It’s the packaging and wand that really had me lovin’ this mascara.

Mascara Monday: LORAC Multiplex 3D Lashes

It seems like everything is going 3D now, uh? I was in Best Buy the other day (it’s my another toy store…after Sephora, of course) and saw a 3D television. Okay, seriously? I have to sit in front of my TV wearing those ridiculous glasses JUST to see a soccer ball get thisclose to my face? Um…no thank you. But I do think it’s kinda cool that LORAC has taken heed to this trend. They recently released their Multiplex 3D Lashes Volumizing and Thickening mascara and I was SUPER excited to give it a whirl. Hit the jump to see if my lashes were in…3D.

I know. Sounds so weird, uh? :D

FOTD Friday: My eyes…in 3D!

Happy Friday, gorgeous people! Today’s face of the day is brought to you by LORAC. Remember that time I reviewed one of their lippies? I’ve been having a LORAC love affair since then. The brand recently released a ton of hot new goodies. But they aren’t what you think they are. They are in 3D!!!

I know, right? You’re mesmerized too, uh? I know. Hit the jump to get a close-up.
