Green Beauty: SJ Creations Pure Body Organics

As promised, a majority of the body care products that I review on Clumps will be from brands that include organic ingredients, and are free of sulfates and all of the other harsh additives that some products may have. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I think you should use whatever floats your boat. But these days, with my skin acting the way it does, I HAVE to use products that are not only nourishing but gentle. And it just so happens that the majority of these products are natural.

I have been LOVING  Pure Body Organics’ body lotion in lavender. And here’s why…

Marie Deneen: Lippies and Lotion

Let me introduce you to Marie Deneen; a brand whose motto is Providing Nature’s Goodness With Style. A few months ago, I was given the opportunity to test drive some lippies and lotions from the them. Gotta love a brand that contributes to West African projects and Jamaican education programs, right? Founder Rashida Morgan-Brown not only has a passion for giving back but also likes to include natural ingredients in her products.

Perhaps that’s why Marie Deneen has recently been featured in Essence Magazine and People Magazine. Holla!

Let’s rap on the lippies first. I tried three of the Shea Lips.

Green Beauty: Lavanila healthy fragrance and body butter

I’ve had my eyes on Lavanila products for quite some time and I am so glad to finally be able to share them with y’all. But first, the etymological nerd that is me hasto tell you about the name LAVANILA. It comes from the country of Madagascar. Their native word for vanilla is lavanila. Apparently the best vanilla comes from the island of Madagascar. Pretty cool, uh?

The brand was started by Danielle Raynor and Laura DiGirolamo, both beauty lovers who were frustrated with the perfumes that aggravated their allergies.

And so together (with the help of chemists, of course) they birthed a healthy fragrance.

Call me crazy, but I wasn’t aware of all of the synthetic ingredients that were put into fragrances. It’s amazing how divine a fragrance can smell using Mother Earth’s treats.

The Healthy fragrances are come in 4 different scents and they are all formulated without

Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petro-Chemicals
- Phthalates
- GMO
- Triclosan

Lavanilla Lavender has notes of vanilla, lavender, rose absolute and violet leaf. Mama Clumps would fall for this as she loves anything with lavender in it. A 1 oz bottle of eau de parfum spray will run you $38 and the 1.7 oz bottle goes for $58.  While the vanilla scent does seem to be a little overpowering, I will say that Lavanilla has turned me into a perfume snob. I don’t think I’ll be looking at mainstream fragrances the same.

And then there are their body butters.

Oh la laaaa….

I don’t usually pull out body butters until the weather gets cooler, but I’ve been making an exception for this kid.

These are perfect after a warm shower or bath as they melt right into your skin.

They are divine, I tell ya. Non-greasy and the scents last. And just like their big sister, they are formulated without all of the nasty stuffs.

The body butters also come in the same 4 scents as the fragrances. Retailing at $12 for a 2.75 bottle and $25 for a 8 oz bottle, I don’t think it’s a bad steal for my ladies who prefer to use products free of synthetic ingredients. And you have to be a lover of vanilla because all of fragrances and body butters have strong notes of it. I have never been the biggest fan of smelling like a cookie but it is starting grow on me.

Lavanila will see me again as I totally plan to try their healthy deodorant and healthy sunscreen. Loves it!

Have you tried any of their products? Whatcha think?

Carol’s Daughter: Ecstacy Gel and Body Butter

How my family knows what products to get me as gifts is such a mystery to me. I don’t live with any of them so how do they know that I DON’T have this and have never tried that? It’s amazing, I tell ya! I got Carol’s Daughter Ecstacy Gel and Body Butter for Christmas ’09 and um, wow…

Is that a WOW-good or WOW-bad? Hit the jump to read on.

Ecstasy Shea Souflee

Price: 3 out of 5 ($13 from CarolsDaughter.com)
Packaging: 3 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
“This luxurious formula is light and fluffy like a soufflé, but moisturizes skin with the intensity of a butter. It’s packed with natural butters and oils to effectively nourish and hydrate dry, parched skin for a soft and velvety appearance.

The perfect blend of succulent nectars shines throughout this fruit medley. Accented with Egyptian musk, precious amber, as vanilla bourbon completes this captivating fragrance.” (source)

The truth:
This stuff smells soooo sweet!

What I loved about it: I love the consistency. It is perfect for the winter time.

What I didn’t like:
The packaging isn’t too hot. When you have used up at least half of the souflee, you literally have to do a 3-finger reeeeach to get to the bottom of the pot.

Overall: I love love love it. The sweet smell is rather addicting. The souflee consistency does a great job at moisturizing even the driest skin. And the scent lasts all day. Loves it!

Next up….

Ecstasy Body Cleansing Gel

The truth:
Just as good as the souflee!

What I loved about it:  Hmmm…the smell! It smells like a baked apple pie drizzled with honey. Hmmm…

What I didn’t like:
N/A

Overall: By the time you will have read this review, I will be on my second bottle of this gel. First of all…it comes out of the bottle like honey. It isn’t sticky but looks like sweet nectar goodness. The gel consistency lathers well and rinses off easily leaving you with silky smooth skin.

I love love love this line. And so does every one else in the world because it seems to be sold out quite often on the Carol’s Daughter website. Anyone try anything from Carol’s Daughter Ecstasy line?

EcoTools has more than brushes now?

Ya’ll know how much of an EcoTools nut I am. I have just about ALL of their brushes. Every time I get an email about brushes for newbies, I recommend EcoTools. It is SO hard to find brushes that are not only that is not only affordable but are great in quality as well. Aaaand….they are green! That is something we can all love.

Well well well…my EcoTools fam is expanding and bringing us body products. I got my hands on the body splash and lotion. Are they up to par? Or should EcoTools just stick to brushes?

Blooming Planet Body Mist

Price: 4 out of 5 ($7, not bad, not bad.)
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
“This Body Mist instantly transports you to a blooming botanical garden with a bright and fresh floral scent. Refresh your natural wellness with this captivating blend of elegant floral blooms. Smells great and feel great, inside your world and out.”

The truth:
Not bad…not bad at all!!

What I loved about it: It lasts for quite some time for a body mist.

What I didn’t like:
It’s a tad bit strong so a good spritz or two just do you good.

Overall: I like body mists. But I haven’t purchased one in quite some time. I am more of perfume and body oil kind of gal but I think body mists are wonderful for traveling or right before bed when you want a nice light scent.

I don’t know what it is about me and why I feel like I need to spritz a mist a dozen times. LOL….it’s like I feel incomplete if I don’t spray it a good 5 times or so. So dramatic, I know but this mist really does go a long way. A good pump or two should do you good.

I’m serious. More than that and people will smell you comin’ a mile away. And true to their claim, EcoTools keeps it simple on the ingredient list.

I totally recommend this mist if you are desirous of nice and clean scent.

Sustainable Softness Body Lotion

Price: 4 out of 5 ($7.99)
Packaging: 4 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims:
“For those seeking intense moisture, look no further than this body lotion that is 98% from nature. Sustainable Softness features nourishing shea butter, which easily absorbs into skin and leaves it feeling silky and smooth. Skin will instantly feel hydrated and sustain your softness.”

The truth:
Hmmm, I can dig it!

What I loved about it: Of course I love the smell. It is very light but has a nice shea butter-y scent that I like.

What I didn’t like: The bottle is a little wonky. It is a little hard to squeeze but I would imagine it will really become difficult when I get low on product. Not the biggest problem. Just something I noticed.

Overall: Way to go EcoTools. I am so proud of you and this lotion. It’s not bad at all! I can be quite the Ash Queen when I want to be. I’m talkin’ elbows so white that it looks like I was playing in flour.

I’m being dramatic again but I like that EcoTool’s lotion can tackle my dry skin. And it is a rich lotion that does on nice and thick.

What’s in this baby, you say?

I hope that in the near future we see butters from EcoTools. They would be perfect for winter! For right now, though, I’ll continue being BFFs with the lotion.
Yay to go EcoTools!! I am glad to see them branch out from just brushes to bring us the fabulousness that is body care products. Who knows…..maybe in the near future you will bring us lipglosses and eyeliners–all green and affordable. The thought alone excites me!
What do you think? Impressed at EcoTool’s newest venture? Interested in trying?
