MAC Viva Glam Rihanna 2 – can’t waiiiiit!

Y’all have asked for it and so I will be dishing it out. More MAC Cosmetics content, that is! I owe MAC a lot because they were really the first makeup brand that introduced me to makeup. And I know I’m not alone in that department. My obsession with them disappeared over the years but not because they aren’t cranking out amazing collections and products. But I’ve been wanting to spread the love and discover other makeup brands. Apparently my heart is big enough to love them all so you can look forward to more MAC Cosmetics features. Yaaaay!

That said, last week MAC released the promo and gave us information on Rihanna’s second Viva Glam campaign.

VIVA GLAM RIHANNA II
First of all. Work, girl Rih. I’m not going to pretend that I’m a fan (I’m not hater either, so chill out…) but the girl knows how to work the camera and I think she is gorgeous. This go ’round we are getting a lipstick and lipglass – both are frosts!

Viva Glam Rihanna

Lipstick ($16) – Warm mauve with a silver forst
Lipglass ($15) – Cool mauve with a red frost

Opinions on the lippies are swirling around the ‘net and it looks like many aren’t a fan of them. However, I can’t WAIT to get my hands on them. Yes, they are a bit reminiscent of the 90’s but I am here for them. I lived in a silvery purple frost in high school so I’m thinking that I can work with this. We’ll see. Yours truly will scooping it up and seeing what kind of magic (ahem…or horror) will happen when these are applied.

Look for these to be available at MACCosmetics.com on September 11th and in stores on September 15th.

So…a mauve frost of a lippy. What are you thinkin’? Yay or nay?

MAC Cosmetics’ Newest Store Opening with Madison Beer! #MACSelfie

Can I get some props for my insane turnaround time? I got to attend the very cool opening of MAC’s Florida Mall location with recording artist Madison Beer…yesterday. YES. I went yesterday and managed to get a post up today. I am impressed with myself.

Madison Beer

Also impressive is this new location. Ohmigoodness y’all. Yes, the Florida Mall has had a MAC location for many years but Orlando is the getting the first ever youth concept store. Because of its C-shaped and open environment design, consumers will have the opportunity to really get up close and personal with the products.

MAC Cosmetics

There is a looooong table in the store where you can casually stroll by and pick up this shadow, swatch this liner, remove it all and start over again. As always, the stunning and helpful MAC artists are there to answer all questions. You really need to see this store in person to get an idea of how fantastic it is. I think it will be a huge hit and I hope MAC gives us more of these stores nationwide and worldwide.

So in honor of the store’s opening, the very talented singer Madison Beer came out to chat with some of us bloggers and do selfies with her fans!

Interviewing Madison Beer

Margaret from Beauty and the Beat and I both got to chat with Madison and for being only 15 years old, the girl has serious style and poise. She’s such a sweetheart! Of course she’s an enormous MAC Cosmetics fan and when I asked her to pick between a red and pink lipstick, she picked…pink! Rihanna is her makeup idol and she schooled me on how to achieve those dark and luscious lashes of hers. She says that applying the mascara on top can really bring out the lashes.  I loved to hear her say one of her tips to younger makeup lovers is to keep it simple; to not cake on makeup and to still aim for a natural look. I absolutely agree and it was so refreshing to know that not ALL teenage girls feel the need to pile on the makeup.

Shortly after our interviews, one lucky fan got the opportunity to get a signed copy of Madison’s album AND she got her makeup done by Madison.

Madison Beer fan at MAC

This girlie could not have been more adorable. She couldn’t stop smiling and had such a good time letting her favorite singer do her makeup! And because it’s 2014 and it’s what everyone does, selfies happened!

#MACSelfie

For a minute I kinda wanted to be 15 again. Maybe. Eh. I don’t know. Kinda?

While Madison continued to take selfies with the loooooong line of fans outside of the store, I got a chance to chat with MAC Cosmetics Artist Florida Mall, Desiree Rodriguez.

MAC Desiree Rodriguez

Desiree is everything. She’s ridiculously talented, knowledgeable about her stuff and is such a fantastic teacher. She had me feelin’ like I too could achieve her iconic winged liner. Mmmm. We’ll see. She also had Margaret and me falling in love with Lady Danger lipstick (Desiree’s favorite lipstick of all time) and she gave Margaret’s brows such a beautiful fix.

Beauty and the Beat

But really it was Mina of MinaSlater.com’s  transformation that really made me happy. This gorgeous girl doesn’t wear red lipsticks! I am on a mission to get every woman to at least TRY red lipstick and when Desiree picked up Viva Glam Rihanna for Mina, I just knew some magic would happen. And it did.

Princess Mina

Let this be a lesson to you, girls. WEAR RED LIPSTICK! Haha, I’m kidding. Not really, though.

I am so so excited for this new layout! The Florida Mall is such an ideal location because of the tourist traffic and its convenient location – right next to the Food Court! I tend to shop at a MAC store closer to my home, but I don’t know…I’m thinkin’ this location is worth the trip.

Brown Beauty Bloggers Rockin’ 50 Shades of MAC

50 shades of MAC

Oh darliiiings, I have something in store for you. I had the opportunity to partner with 4 other talented brown girl beauty bloggers for a little collaboration called 50 Shades of MAC. There are 5 of us and we are each showcasing 10 MAC Cosmetics lipsticks. The lipsticks featured are both permanent and limited edition and I think you’ll love getting a chance to see how these shades look on brown girls of various complexions. And because I am…ME, some of those pictures are some kinds of silly. You know how I do.

So…let’s get this party started!

MAC Port Red

First up is Port Red. Launched from the 2008 Naughty Nauticals, Port Red is a blue red that has subtle silver undertones. It almost looks metallic.

MAC Black Knight

2008 also gave us the goth-friendly collection Cult of Cherry. I loved the dark shades of this collection and I knew that I had to have Black Knight. Because why wouldn’t you want a creamy black lipstick in your life?

MAC Violetta

Violetta is a bright violet purple and it is one of MAC’s Bestsellers for a reason. This shade looks stunning on women of all complexions.

MAC Most Popular

Most Popular is from the 2009 Hello Kitty collection and I really only picked this up because Hello Kitty is my spiritual animal. It’s a deep berry red that is average at best, but come on…it has Hello Kitty imprinted on the stick. ‘Nuff said!

MAC Electro

I remember first seeing Electro from the Neo Sc-Fi collection and going crazyyyyy. This creamy orange isn’t exactly the most flattering thing when worn alone on darker skin but honey, I don’t care. I LIVE for Electro.

MAC 3-D

3-D used to be my “interview” lipstick back in the day. Whenever I was job hunting and needed to head on an interview, this rose made me feel like I was going to get the job!

MAC Pomposity

There really isn’t anything striking about the purpley magenta that is Pomposity. The silver shimmer in it provides a little bit more pop than your average magenta lipstick and that’s what drew me to Lady Pomp.

DSC_0460.NEF

Politely Pink, I feel, is MAC’s answer to a nude lip for brown girls. When paired with Chestnut lip liner, I found this lipstick to be so flattering when so many other so-called nudes weren’t.

MAC Girl About Town

Girl About Town and I have good memories because I think this was the lipstick that made me fall for bright colors. This vibrant berry actually looks good on all complexions!

MAC Candy Yum Yum

Candy Yum-Yum. So yeah…I ignored that matte hot pink the first time it came out. The second time I scooped it up. And now? I love it so so much. I love pairing it with MAC’s Nightmoth to really compliment me.

Check out the other 40 shades by visiting the sites of the other gorgeous ladies!

The Best Black Eyeliners Ever!

Black eyeliners

So I’m not gonna lie…I am pretty boring in the eyeliner world. And it’s not because I work some professional job or that I consider myself to be Mrs. Conservative. Naw. I just really love black eyeliner. I wear it everyday and very rarely will I wear another color. Do I love emerald greens, bright blues and royal purples on my eyes? Yeeeep. But black liner is staple, girl. It just is. This edition of the Makeup Wars, us gals are sharing some of our favorite black eyeliners. I thought I’d stick with my faithful Urban Decay Zero, but really I’ve tried a TON of black eyeliners that I’ve loved.

DSC_0901

They are far from cheap but I can’t get enough of Urban Decay’s pencil eyeliners. Especially that Zero. For some reason, my eyes have gotten really sensitive over the years and the only pencil that I KNOW won’t leave me tearing up is Zero. Oh, and it doesn’t budge. At all. I’ve purchased and repurchased this pencil so many times. Like, you don’t even want to know how many times…

Physicians Formula trio

So they suck in the foundation diversity game, but Physicans Formula makes some realllllly nice eyeliners. Their liquid and pencil eyeliners are pretty cool, but really its their dark and smooth Kohl eyeliner pencil that just makes me go gaga. I can’t get enough of it for when I really want to smoke out my eyes.

Maybelline really gave us a gem when they put put their Eye Studio Ink Pen Eyeliner. The Black version of this liquid eyeliner pencil is spectacular.

A few years back, NYX gave us an entire collection of black liners that I couldn’t get enough of. They were so cool to give us these because each liner has a different formula. Everything from matte to sattin and liquid, NYX had us covered on the black liners front.

When I really want some pop to my upper lashline, I love Essence’s Metallic black eyeliner. It has just a very small amount of shimmer that really makes the eyes stand out. And it’s only $1.99 and does darn good around water and sweaty situations.

Urban Decay Perversion bottle

I did a review on Urban Decay’s Perversion cream liner and I still loving that baby from the moon and back. Other runner ups are Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream in Shade 27 and the cult fave MAC Blacktrack gel liner.

And let’s not forget Milani as they are always there to give us budget-friendly sturdy liners in all shapes and sizes.

Milani Eye Tech Liquid Liner

I could really go on and on, but I’ll stop here and let my girls share with you some of their favorite black eyeliners…

Makeup Wars: 5 Wearable Nude Lipsticks for Brown Girls

The slacker in me almost missed out on joining in on this Makeup Wars post. But dude…nude? I HAD to jump in and represent for the dark brown girls that feel as if they can’t wear nudes comfortably.

Nude Lipstick.jpg

Truthfully, though? Nudes aren’t favorite. I hardly tango with any of mine. Why wear nude when you can wear red, hot pink or…orange? But lemme tell you, a good nude paired with a gorgeous and vibrant eye is stunning. Nudes have their place in the makeup world and I’m glad to see that I’ve got a nice little selection of ‘em.

Nude Lipstick on Black Woman

Even if I don’t show them much love. Who knows…maybe after seeing all of these nudes, I’ll be inspired to wear them more often. Maybe. But first, check out 5 of my favorite nude lipsticks…

DSC_4667

Clinique’s Curviest Caramel is the way I like my nudes. It leans a bit more on the pink side but is still described as a nude. It doesn’t have too much white in it to where I feel like a corpse. And it’s definitely one of those interview friendly shades.

Hey there, Tarte Inspired. Don’t hate me for not having a single picture of that lippy but dang…I love it. Inspired comes from Tarte’s Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipsticks and while the formula on these are a bit thick and strange, Inspired is truly one nude that I can stand by.

DSC_1782

Too Faced’s Spice Spice Baby is one of those nudes that at first glance looks “Blech!” but then when applied you’re all like “Dayuuuuuum!” It is one nude that I don’t have to do any doctoring to. It is perfect without any liner or glosses. It is truly the ideal nude lipstick for my dark brown sisters.

Too Faced Taffy

Also from Too Faced is Taffy, a pink marshmallow nude. This is the most recent nude featured on Clumps and it is by far one of my favorites.

MAC Lollipop Loving

MAC’s Lollipop Loving (from the Heatherette collection, who remembers that?) is like a blast from the past. I can’t believe I still have this lipstick. I’m questioning if it is even safe to use considering I’ve had it for so many years. Welp, whatever. I have rediscovered this lipstick and I am in loooove with its frosty pink-y nude finish with  just a touch of chartreuse shimmer. Some frosts are so totally 90’s but when lined with MAC’s Chestnut, this lippy is some kind of wonderful.

Do you have a favorite nude? Tell me! I really should add more to my collection. In the meantime, check out the nude lippies that my Makeup Wars sisters loved…

That Girl Who Wears Lipstick When She Runs…

I feel like such a lame-o for just now wearing this lipstick. I purchased MAC’s RiRi Woo – I dunno…months ago! And I really only purchased it because so many of my beauty blogger friends were raving over it. And I fell for the hype.

MAC RiRi Woo

Which is funny because I’ve never been one to fall over MAC, the brand or Rihanna, the artist. But the lippy arrived and I didn’t touch it. Until a few weeks ago when Grandmama Clumps and I ran a 5K.

Black Girls Run

I was inspired by the gorgeous Tracee Ellis Ross who wears red lipstick when she works out. And just like that, the stunning RiRi Woo lipstick has become my #1 workout lippy.

MAC RiRi Woo lipstick

And you can see why, right? This limited edition cool matte of a red lipstick rocks my socks. Every few years, I run across a red lipstick that I fall in love with and it looks like this red is the one. In fact, any time I run a race, I’ll be wearing this one.

RiRi Woo swatch

Yep. Some girls run with tutus. Others run with lucky socks. And then there will be me. I will run with red lipstick.

BOOM.

Mascara Monday: MAC Cosmetics In Extreme Dimension Lash mascara

DSC_4548

I haven’t reviewed a MAC Cosmetics products in like…forever. Which is nuts because years ago, I only wore MAC everything. This is actually my 2nd purchase from them in all of 2012. Crazy, right? The brand hasn’t really had much that has impressed me and it wasn’t until a friend told me about this mascara until I realized I hadn’t reviewed one of theirs in foreveeeer. Oppsies.

DSC_4547

Price: $20 at MAC counters and at MACCosmetics.com.
Packaging (brush wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 2.5 out of 5

What It Claims: “Lashes take on unreal scale, structure and sweep-and now in a new Carbon shade, techno-chic black. The M•A•C patented brush design holds more mascara as rows of micro fibers weave in between lashes to separate, define and enhance on a dramatic lash-by-lash level.” (source)

The Truth: Oh no. This mascara…just no. No no no.

What I Loved About It: It’s got a nice consistency. I didn’t love it but it worked.

What I Didn’t Like: The wand and the huge hole just totally ruined the mascara for me.

Overall: Welp. It beez that way sometimes. People adore MAC Cosmetics and they are always expected the best of the best of the best of the best. But they aren’t perfect. No brand is and this mascara is an example of that. Everything about it makes it appear that it’ll be a great mascara though. The packaging is adorable and the claims got me all kinds of excited. A quick unscrew of the wand and I know this mascara just wasn’t going to work for me. First, let’s look at the wand…

DSC_4554

Meh. It tried but want to know why it really failed? Because of the huge hole without a stopper.

DSC_4551

DSC_4552

Yep, even stellar brands like MAC have become a victim to this notorious problem in mascaras. It drives me up a wall and I will throw a party the day brands realize how frustrating this is. The wand has the potential to be great, of course, but when it is pulled out of the tube, it’s all gunky and nasty and it takes the user a few seconds to wipe off the excess mascara residue. Ugh. It’s frustrating and I immediately start hating a mascara every time I have to deal with this issue.

Now once you’ve wiped off the excess mascara, you’ll find that the wand itself isn’t half bad. The bristles are nice and stiff and the formula of the mascara makes it so that they coat your lashes nicely. Still, I would have likely gotten more out of the mascara if I didn’t have to spend the time removing mascara gunk.

The formula is nice and I was able to get a good 3 coats without any problems. I didn’t experience any smudging or flaking and while I got decent length, the volume was just so so. I believe a plusher wand would have resulted in more volumized lashes so I wasn’t surprised to see the lack of volume. Still, the mascara disappointed me to the n’th degree because of that wand.

Do I recommend it?: Nope. MAC has better mascaras. This just isn’t one of them.

Any MAC lovers in the house? Have you tried this mascara yet?

Tarte’s Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipsticks, Part I

Ask me to list one of my Top 5 Favorite Brands and I’ll always list Tarte. I’ve been in love with this brand since first swatch. Everything from the packaging of the products their lack of harmful ingredients makes me love ‘em. Aaaand, unlike many “natural” brands, Tarte has a nice selection of brown girl friendly concealers, foundations and powders. Yes!!

If you pop into Sephora and stroll by the Tarte section, you’ll probably spot these beautiful babies. Look at them. Look at them, I say!

Forget the glitzy and shiny lipstick wands. I like these bamboo-inspired ones so much more. Aren’t they beautiful? Even more, the beautiful and colorful designs on each lipstick box and wand represent the color inside. Cute, right? Tarte has put Amazonian clay in a lot of their products and their inclusion in these lippies is to restores the lips’ natural moisture content with nourishing and hydrating properties. (source)

It’s hard to tell how large these wands are if you’re lookin’ at them online but in person, they are pretty long. So one would think that a larger wand means more product, right? Meh. Not really. You’ll get about the same amount of product in these as you would in a lipstick from MAC Cosmetics.

It doesn’t look that way at first but holding them eye-level will reveal that they’re about the same.

Tarte has given us 8 beautiful and complimentary shades for women of all complexions – which I can appreciate. They’ve got everything from nudes, berries, reds and a bright pink. Swatches of the first 4…

(L-R)
Foxy, Bold, Pure, Playful

Guess which one is my fave? Just guess.

Foxy, of course! Described as a deep pink, this is the brightest lipstick out of the bunch. I haven’t seen Tarte do a lippie this vibrant before and for this to be one of their firsts…they knocked it out of the park. The online swatches of this lipstick (well, all of them) doesn’t even do it justice. If you don’t get any other color, Foxy is the one you’ll want to get.

Bold is coral that I find severely unattractive on me. Then again, y’all know how I feel about corals anyway. Pure is a light rose that I found to be an ideal neutral shade for anyone. It freaked me out at first swatch but but it’s actually okay. And lastly is Playful is a purple rose.

This is my second favorite as I find it to be the most wearable. Foxy rocks but it isn’t exactly work-appropriate. Playful, on the other hand, is a great day to night lipstick.

Pro’s
-Extremely versatile shade selection.
-Long-lasting. In fact, the darker shades transform into a stain.
-Very nice and creamy formula. Achieving an opaque finish is super easy.
-Beautiful natural-inspired packaging. I like this more than my fancier lipstick wands.
-Like all Tarte products, these are free from parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and phthalates.
-Includes shea, mango and avocado butters.

Cons
-Smells a bit like clay. It actually doesn’t bother me but may annoy others.
-A bit pricey at $26 a pop.
-Not as moisturizing as I would have liked. But I have yet to find a lipstick that is, ya know?

Stay tuned for my review of the other 4 of these. If you just have to just get ONE, I’d say snag Foxy if you’re a gal who loves bright shades or Playful if you want something beautifully wearable. These are currently available at Sephora stores and at Sephora.com.

Have you seen these in Sephora yet? How adorable is the packaging?
