Mascara Monday: MAC FibreRich

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope that yall had a wonderful weekend. While the low gas prices should have prompted me to make some travels around Florida, I was too lazy to do so. I opted to spend some time cleaning out my closet, shopping for some shoes and continuing my training for the 5K. Loves it!! I would first like to ‘pologize for the delay on this mascara. Gosh, I was asked to review these decades okay. But I got it for you this time around. Introducing…..

MAC Fibre Rich Mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 ($12.00)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 3.5 out of 5

What it claims: “Fibre-rich. Good for you. Keeps lashes fit. Makes them strong, fat, well-defined. Adds muscle to short and fine lashes. Creams on. Clump proof…Spike-proof! The difference fibre makes is amazing. Add it to your lashes’ diet!”

The truth: *yawn* Oh…uh? What were we talking about? LOL, nah I’m kidding…it’s good.

What I loved about it: Well, it did lengthen.

What I didn’t like: I really couldn’t get down with the wand. That little swirly brush thing was just not working too well for me.

Overall: I’m just going to keep it real in the fied, folx. I know a lot of beauty gurus/enthusiasts love to give MAC Cosmetics crazy props even if the products are so-so. I ain’t one of those people so please…no cyber tomatoes. LOL! I’m just not THAT impressed. Had the brush been a little easier to use, I think I would have liked it more. The clump factor was minimal so that’s always a good thing. I didn’t experience any of those mid-day flakes so props for that! I mean, I did give it 3 out of 5 because I do like the length that it gave me but I know for a fact that there are other lengthening mascaras that can deliever just as good as this baby here and for a cheaper price! Maybelline XXL Extensions being one. Imju Fiberwig being the other (but only if you have some pennies to spare). So is Fibre Rich bad? No. Is Fibre Rich phenomal? No.

Would I recommend it: If you are looking for a good lengthening mascara, then yes. But if you already have one, save your duckies.

Lashes with NO mascara

Lashes with TWO coats

….okay, now that I’m lookin’ at these pictures, maybe I didn’t give this mascara a fair review. LOL, they did bring the lashes out there a bit, didn’t they? Ah well…my favorite lengthening mascara will forever and always be Imju Fiberwig.

What’s your favorite? Tell B!

Enjoy your Monday!!!

Brown and Blushin’ Series: Purple on the cheeks?

I know, I know. I haven’t done a post from this series in quite awhile, uh? I’m so sorry, chicas. I’ve been behind on keeping you lovely up on blushes from my brown skin beauties. I am still enamored with blush and my collection has grown from 3-5 blushes to almost 20! I’m tellin’ you….when I like somethin’ I really like it! And while I haven’t purchased a blush in awhile, I still enjoy revisiting everything from my NYC blush in Desert Rose to my Stila Convertible color in Rose and Grandma’s trusty Fashion Fair Warm Sand blush.

But what happens when a lady loves what she loves but still wants to try something different?

THIS!

Who remembers MAC’s Mi’Lady Mineralized shadow? This baby came out last fall and I honestly haven’t touched it in quite awhile. While I think it is divine on the lids this beautiful combo of mineralized goodness doesn’t quite fit in with my daily work-appropriate looks. But I still wanted to see what I could do with ole’ girl.

I mean, look how pigmented she is…

So you know what I had to do, riiiight? I grabbed the trusty MAC 187 brush and…

Who would have thought that this color is pretty dern decent on the cheeks?

A little too sparkly for my liking but perhaps with a lighter hand and a cleaner brush I would have ended up with a beautifully flattering purple cheek that doesn’t LOOK crazy.

I was a little heavy on the cheeks but that didn’t stop me…I pulled out my purples quad and…

Yes, I swirled the brush in all 4 colors. The results?

(say hi to the crater on my face!)

Still a little too MUCH so I definitely want to play around with purples on the cheek but with a lighter hand. And yall know me, I ALWAYS get carried away….Mi’Lady on the lips, B? Really?

Wait is that my washcloth in the background that I forgot to crop out? Clumps of Mascara strikes again! LOL!

So what say you, people? Would you rock purple cheeks? Or on the lips? Hmm…maybe I will refine this look a little more and present it in this week’s upcoming FOTD Friday?

Whatcha think?

FOTD Friday: Oh La Tempting

Happy Friday, lovelies!!! I am still in Chicago and hopefully I am having a ball. Um, it’s strange talking about myself in the 4th person??

Ha! So if you know me beauty-wise, you know that I am Queen Itsadupe (it’s a dupe). I have this obsession with assuming that MAC’s newest collections with eye shadows can be duped with other eye shadows from not only MAC but other brands. Hence why I didn’t feel the need to haul the palettes from the Cult of Cherry collection. Not to mention, I am very fickle and anal when it comes to not only cleanliness but having 2 of the same anything. Especially eye shadows.

But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t think the colors were gorgeous. In fact I thought that Tempting was beautiful!! I had to try to find similar colors. Here’s how I tried to recreate the quad.

Tempting (top-left): Milani Golden Bronze
Dark Edge (top-right): MAC Signed Sealed
Next to Nothing (bottom-left): Clinique Almost Peach
Sharp (bottom-right): MAC Eyepopping

Dig the swatches on the hand…

Pretty darn close, uh?

I used…

EYES:

(the colors stated up, of course)
Milani Cocomo Lipliner (I know, I know…I didn’t have brown eyeliner and was just experimenting)
Maybelline Unstoppable eye liner
A mascara that I haven’t reviewed yet but me gusta!

CHEEKS:
Mineral Concepts Dessert Dawn blush

LIPS:
(1st look)
MAC Nightmoth Lip pencil
MAC Jampacked Lip glass

(2nd look)
NYC somethin’….name rubbed off.

OMG, my lip liner so isn’t blended. Clumps of Mascara strikes again. Gotta love it! And check out how different this look is without the bright lip.

I am also thinking that despite the bright green shadow, the look is still subtle enough for work. And brown liner on the lower lash line is crazy beautiful. I have to incorporate that in more looks. Except I hope to use a eye pencil next time instead of a lip pencil. Shhh, don’t act like you’ve never done it before. HA!

What do you people think? I think my dupes are almost identical. I shall be returning to Florida tomorrow evening. I hope that everyone has wonderful weekends!

Stay beautiful!

[NOTE]: I ended up wearing this look to an after-5 lounge and at work and it was beautiful!

Cult of Cherry: Bing’s a Winner!

Cult of Cherry

So as I mentioned in this post, I had the chance to attend a Cult of Cherry release party at MAC last week. I had a wonderful time! I don’t drink alcohol but the Godiva Lacquer drinks were delicious. I spent 30 minutes actin’ a fool with my favorite make-up artists Sophia and Thai at the Orlando PRO store and gazing at the new products.

I won’t do the list of all of the products as I try not to get too caught up in posting collection product rundowns but I have to say that everything was absolutely beautiful. I have not been impressed with a MAC Collection in quite awhile but I had a great vibe with Cult of Cherry.

Did it make it want to buy the entire collection?
Um…no. But when have I ever purchased an entire collection? LOL! If yall don’t know by now, your Head Newb here is cheap. I can’t spend that much money on make-up despite the obsession.

I found the palettes to be dupe-able. My girl Sophia goes, “Brit, don’t you start….” because she knew I was thinking of similar colors that the palettes’ pans resembled. I can’t help it!

The lipsticks, however were divine. I had similar colors of most and the blushes did not look to be flattering on a dark skinned brown lady. Not to mention I have enough blushes to last me for a lifetime.

So here is what I got:

Mattene Lipstick in Bing

…and Lip Glass in Jampacked

Being that dark lips is IN for the Fall, I had to cop these two lippies. I was ambivalent for a minute though. Burgundy is one of those colors I always thought Black women needed to move away from. Who remembers how prominent burgundy lips was in the 90’s?

Check out this video for a reference:

But I am learning to except dark lips again. And not just for a Halloween/goth look. I’m thinking that we can rock a pretty dark lip anytime! Check out Bing by itself:

Bing goes Goth

Bing goes Glam

Bing goes mean

Bing’s night out!

I love love looove this lipstick. It is the best thing in my life right now. I think every woman needs to have a vampy burgundy lipstick in their collection.

“But Briiiit, OMG, it isn’t me!”

….if you are thinking this, you need to step out of the comfort zone and be a little daring. Life is short, honey bun. Live a little!

I give Cult of Cherry, the collection a thumbs up. I will be rocking Bing all up and down October and November. I even went vampy on the nails.

O.P.I’s Catherine the Grape is lovely!

….are you excited for Cult of Cherry? Likin’ the fall vampy look? Or not so much? Whatchu say?

Cool Heat ain’t hot…

I’ve been silent on the newest MAC Collection Cool Heat.

Why? Honestly…I’m not impressed. From the moment I saw the promo pictures I thought that every single eyeshadow color was dupe-able. I haven’t even gone to my MAC Pro to see it in person. I just knew I could create a Cool Heat look without…Cool Heat. So check it:

Here’s the palette I used.

These are the only blue/turquoise colors I own. I mean….how many does a gal need?

Here’s a little diagram to show where I placed the colors.

I used UDPP as a base. I found that using a colored primer (I tried Delft paint pot and a L’Oreal HIP creme liner) made the colors pop TOO much. Because these eyeshadow colors are so highly pigmented and blendable, I found that there was no need for colored bases.

I also used:
Vanilla pigment as a highlight
Clinique purple liner on waterline
Milani liquid liner on lower lash line
SpinLash mascara

LIPS:
Urgent Slimshine (thanks Nywele!)

FACE:
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
Bobbi Brown Brownie Shimmerbrick
(I seriously don’t see myself ever wearing foundation again. Is that bad? Heheheee….)

LOL, my flared nostrils. Cracks me up. I am really satisfied with passing on everything in the Cool Heat collection. However, if you are new to make-up or blues in general, this may be the perfect collection for you! I would love to hear your thoughts on this collection. And my look. Is there something I MUST take a look at? Whatcha thank?

Ciao chicas! Stay beautiful!

….but that’s not alllll.

I was on my way to work and was tempted to try on that new Port Red lipstick from MAC’s Naughty Nauticals collection. So I dropped my lunch box and purse on the floor and ran to my bathroom where the beauty of all lipsticks lay in my traincase. I lined my lips with Nightmoth and applied Port Red. I was floored with how beautiful it looks. The subtle gold specks really bring some “umph” to the overall color of Port Red. I am in love with this. And yep, it is a TRUE red. What I love about it is how it isn’t a deep red. Deep reds tend to make me really look like somebody’s 40 year old Momma. And yall know what I’m talkin’ about….hehehe.

So dig the little photo shoot I had in the car. I was careful about it, I promise. I also tried to show pictures in different lightning so you can really get an idea of how Port Red looks. *insert British voice* I was a bit giddy in these pics, chaps but I had a jolly good time. And you’ll have to enlarge for a better view. Photbucket was on the trips today, mannnn.

My brows are really crackin’ me up. Goin’ to get them threaded tomorrow. I can’t express how much I love this color.

What do you think?
Yay or nay to Port Red?
…..what’ s your take on darker skinned ladies wearin’ red lippies?

MAC’s Dazzleglass

I don’t know ‘bout yall, but I am a serious lip gloss, girl. I don’t wear it as often as I used to (I’m trying to become a mature woman so I’m into lipsticks, ha!) but I still have some obsession with a good gloss. MAC’s Dazzleglass never really intrigued me right away but being the MAC addict, that I am…I still had to check it out.

Dazzleglass…..I gotta give it props. At $16.50, MAC Cosmetics defines these babies as “High-shine + large particle quartz and opal crystal captured in a great new formula with light-reflecting, crystalline iridescence. Umm, so what does that mean in laymen (or women , ha!) terms? Just that it’s a pretty shiny gloss. Is it tacky? Yeeep. Is it lightweight? Hmmm, not quite. Does it have a better staying power than Lipglass or Lustreglass? YES!!! I absolutely love how long this gloss stays on. Longer than the average gloss I’ve worked with.

Do I think it’s necessary to haul more than one? No, but that may just me being cheap. In my eyes, a gloss is a gloss. $16.50 is already a stretch for ONE so I can’t imagine hauling more than that. To prevent myself from even being tempted to purchase more than one, I picked the one Dazzlegass that caught my eye, swatched it, purchased it and walked away.

Let me introduce you to “Get Rich”.

Pretty pretty, uh? This color almost reminds me of Squeeze It from the Fafi Collection, except a little more sheerer and glittery. Here’s how it looks alone.

Just ehhh….like a really ole’ gloss to me. I would still wear it by itself because of the staying power, but I wasn’t too impressed.

So I decided to pair it with a lipstick. Here is MAC’s 3D lipstick worn alone.

I’m tellin’ you…I love me some 3D. I could wear this color everyday. It’s perfect. Topping Get Rich over this gives it a nice little POP that I’m thinkin’ I could incorporate everytime I wear 3D. Check it…

I can dig it. Not super impressed but again, the staying power of these babies are really what turn me on. What are your thoughts on Dazzleglass? Pass or a must have?

Let a sista know!
