Battle of the Purple Lipsticks

If you know me, you know that I LOVE a good purple lipstick. Oh yes, girl..you thought I was in love with red lippies, uh? Yeah…a good red lip is indeed all that and a bag of kale chips. But there is something about purple lips. They are so unexpected. So different. So B. And so, I present to you two very different purple lippies. And I’m leaving it up to you to decide which one is best.

Because ain’t no way I’m choosin’…

FOTD Friday: 4 ways to use Make Up For Ever aqua creams

This week’s look is brought to you by Make Up For Ever and the letter “O” for Ohmigoodness, I need every single aqua cream in my life now. Okay…I’m getting carried away. Let me start from the beginning.

There it was. The Make Up For Ever booth at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week-Swim. After attacking waiters with food on silver platters patiently waiting our turn, Nikki New and I headed over for our appointment. Nikki thought that I would be the one getting the make-up but heavens no…she would be the easel, I would be the annoying sidekick shrieking at the beautiful application of each aqua cream.

While Nikki and her fabulous make-up artist talked about the look they were going for, I walked around being nosy.

Okayyyyy, forget about things you would do for a Klondike bar. What would YOU do for that make-up kit? Icy eyeballs, it looks amazing!

I headed back over to the gals to see that they’ve already applied #21, a vibrant turquoise aqua cream on the water line.

Nikki already had on turquoise eyeliner so instead of removing that, our artist (whose names I SO forgot) worked right on top of it. Next up was #20, an intense blue that I should have had in my life yesterday.

She applied that right on the lower lashline. #12, a muted gold that looks ah-mazing on brown skin. It almost reminds me of MAC’s Indianwood paint pot.

That went right on the lid. This worked perfectly for Nikki because she has those beautiful deep set eyes.

Nikki’s face was buffed with HD foundation…

And guess what the make-up artist used on her cheeks? Remember that #10 deliciously orange aqua cream that I used on my lids last week? Who knew that could work as a blush?

Gorgeous! And then she used #25 super gloss on her lips. I LOVE this chocolate gloss. I need that in my life too!

Stunning, right?! Oh…forgot to show you the fourth way you can use an aqua cream…

In your hair! Shut…up. That’s #8, a tomato red. So freakin’ cool!

Have you tried MUFE’s aqua creams yet? Which ones are you lovin’?

Have a great weekend!

FOTD Friday: Orange eyeshadow, baby!

With the anticipation of all of the hot looks that I am going to see at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami, I decided to pull out my Orange aqua cream (#10) from Make Up For Ever.

I copped this baby at The Makeup Show NYC and have yet to really play with it. Leave it to me to choose the funkiest shade from the aqua cream line-up. But orange lids is truly where it’s at!

This isn’t my first time rockin’ orange shadow. A few years ago I wore it for for Halloween. It was just “eh” then. But MUFE’s aqua creams to take it up a notch. Aqua creams really don’t budge. I mean, at all. I submerged my hand underwater AND rubbed and look…

Nothing. Still there! So I put a bit on the lid and topped it off with MAC’s Acid Orange pigment.

This was a work look so I didn’t want it to be TOO bright. I left the orange on the lid and filled in my space between lid and brow with a brown shadow from my Coastal Scents 88 shadow palette.

To tone down the orange a bit I added a black matte eye shadow in my outer-V.

I sweeped a white eye matte shadow under the brow and bam!

Who knew orange could be so wearable?

My hair has me feelin’ like such a lioness. Rawr!

But nothing beats a pair of over sized shades.

Woot! I hope you are off to a great weekend. Be sure to check out the Clumps Facebook page over the weekend for backstage looks at Fashion Week Swim. And of course I’ll be tweeting like a mad woman while my assistant Nikki New helps me juggle between video footage and photos. The Clumps Intern, BriAna is the one that usually helps me but she’s in New York City for a summer acting camp. She’s the most awesome 16-year old ever.

Have you rocked orange lids before? No, you say? Do it, do it, do it. Yes, I am peer pressuring you. :)

Have a great weekend!

FOTD Friday: Strawberry/Blueberry Milk

Happy Friday, friends! It took long enough but I finally found some inspiration. And I owe it all to NYX’s jumbo pencil in Milk. Why didn’t y’all tell me how awesome this pencil was? Seriously…where have I been? I’ve heard of fellow beauty bloggers using this as a base but WOW! I never thought it would make my eye shadow pop the way it did. See!

Click the jump to see what the final look looked like!

I was in the mood of doing something a little “out there” with my Make Up For Ever shadows. In a perfect world I would know the numbers to these colors. But this world ain’t perfect and so I don’t. HA! I titled this post strawberry/blueberry milk because that’s what the colors look like. Or am I just hungry? Hmm…

Did I ever tell y’all that I have a slight lazy eye? I’m not kidding. I have to struggle to “lift” my left eye because it tends to droop a great deal–especially when I’m smiling for a picture. I’m getting better at lifting it though. NOW I’m ready for America’s Next Top Lazy Eye Model. Holla!

I had to get all “extra”…lol.

I’ve been wearing head scarves a lot lately. Sometimes the hair needs a break from the elements, know what I mean?

I was mega impressed at that NYX pencil’s performance. I’ll have to do a complete review on it soon. Yes, I feel a little loser-ish for just now getting on the bandwagon. Ah well… Better late than never, I guess.

I’m off to Tampa Bay for the weekend. My girl Kamay is getting married. I’m so happy for her!

Have a fabulous weekend,

Mascara Monday: Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash

Time for another review of a highly requested mascara. Out of nowhere, my inbox was slammed with a ton of emails about this mascara. Those of y’all that have tried it swore it was the best thing ever. Did I agree? Hmm…

Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash

Price: 2 out of 5 (I got it for $22 at Sephora)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims:
“A mascara that gives the lashes curl, volume, length and intense pigment” (source)

The truth: It don’t do all of THAT but it’s a pretty good mascara.

What I loved about it: I reallllly like how black it is.

What I didn’t like: It tends to flake toward the end of the day. No me gusta!

Overall: I freakin’ love Make Up For Ever. I can’t deny it. Yeah, I know I complain about the price. But I’m always complaining about the price of something. That’s just the life of a cheaparina. LOL! I always feel ambivalent when I hit a check-out line with a luxury mascara. Is it worth the price? Will I fall in love and end up having to always spend a grip on it? Hmm…

Smoky Lash surprised me. I can totally see why so many of y’all love this Sephora exclusive mascara. Let’s talk about the wand.

It’s pretty cool. Not my favorite but it isn’t bad. It takes some work when trying to get in the inner corners. And it may give smaller lids and lashes ladies some issues. Tiny thin strokes is the key with a brush like that. I used the root-to-top wiggling method and it worked just fine.

Now don’t let the claims fool you. I don’t think ANY mascara can give you length, volume AND curl. If I am so desirous of all three, I find that layering is the best way to go. I think that this mascara is better with lengthening than anything else. The volume is so so but what really makes it stand out is the black pigment. It gives my lashes tons of drama. And that’s with one coat. One coat is where you should stay because two or more MAY give you some problems.

The biggest problem I had with Smoky Lash was the flakiness. It was pretty bad at one point. I always assume that flaky mascaras are because (1) the mascara is older or (2) I’ve applied too many coats. The latter was the case with Smoky Lash. Three coats=flakiness galore, one coat=a bit of flakiness but not too bad.

Otherwise, it’s a pretty good mascara. Go MUFE!!!

Would I recommend it?: Sure would…it’s a nice mascara if you feel like splurging!

Go MUFE, it’s ya birthday!!! Who likes?

A crazed mascara reviewer,

FOTD Friday: Make Up For Ever, I Love Forever!

Have I ever told y’all how much I love Make Up For Ever? Their eye shadows are impeccable. Amazing. Phenomenal. They rock beyond belief. They only thing stopping me from indulging in more of their products is the hefty price tag. It’s tough to give up $19 a shadow…even if they are are all that and a bag of pita chips. If it weren’t for the discounts at The Makeup Show NYC, I’m not sure if I would be able to play around with MUFE as much.

Whaaat? I’m being honest. Y’all know I’m a bit frugalista.

I decided to play around with some pinks. It took me awhile to warm up to pinks. I didn’t think they could work well on brown skin. How gorgeous are these?

And some swatches….

Oh yeah, MUFE…you got it goin’ on and you know it. I was rushing for work and didn’t have much time to really pack on the color like I wanted to. I called in another color to help me out.

I really wish MUFE had names for their colors. They go by numbers and since mine sit in a palette and I didn’t think to mark them before placing them in the palette. I don’t even much know what is what. Ahhh well…

My first few attempts with dealing with the mattes had me struggling.

I tweaked it a bit and tried to make it work appropriate and neat. I also played around with some liquid liner (gulp) and did a cat eye. Haven’t done one of those in for-ev-er!

Iman Cosmetics Luxury Liquid eyeliner in Onyx
Diorshow mascara in Plum

LIPS:
MAC Lip liner in Chestnut (brown girl classic, right? lol)
Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick in Nearly There
Maybelline ColorSensational lipgloss in Broadway Bronze

I mean….I don’t know. I’m not 100% feeling this look. I definitely could have spent more time blending and packing on the color for high intensity color payoff. MUFE shadows really aren’t for the weak. You have to bring your A game if you blame on rollin’ with these top dawgs.

I’ve learned my lesson. Still love you, MUFE! And we shall meet again. More preferably on a weekend when I can be all free and uninhibited.

Any of ya’ll dabble in Make Up For Ever?

Love ‘em? Hate ‘em?

Have an awesome weekend,

FOTD Friday: Make Up For Ever pinks!

Is it really Friday already?

Dang….

Seems like only yesterday when I was taking the 115 bus from Jersey to catch the Number 2 train from 42nd street to jump on the C. Yes, I STILL have New York City on the brain. I should have it together by next week. Hopefully.

I did this look for my last day in the city. I purchased some shadow colors from the all mighty Make Up For Ever. I really hate that I love this brand so much. Seriously!! Each shadow is $19 each and that is so outside of my budget. At The Makeup Show, however…..40% off! That means each shadow was a little over $7.00.

Pumpkin ice cream chair cords!!
(my excitement=a slew of random words)

Girl yes….I was thrilled! Make Up For Ever shadows are HIGHLY pigmented and blend like a dream. My only wish is that MUFE starts giving their products names instead of numbers. Since I forgot to put the shadow name in my MUFE palette, I have nooo idea what is what. So I am totally guessing on the colors here.

[NOTE]: My skin is going through some thangs in these photos. Of course—another break-out. What else is new! And I’m not sure why I look so ashy either. But ya’ll know I don’t care. Photoshop-free is the way to be!

Sour!

….so random, I know. I haven’t taken mirror photos since those MySpace-obsession days!

Anyone else rockin‘ Make Up For Ever shadows? OMG, for the total MUFE queen, check out my gal Adina at Krasey Beauty. My girl is like….the biggest MUFE fan ever!

Have a wonderful amazingly beautiful exciting weekend!
