Favorite Spring Products!

Favorite Spring Products

It is finally starting to warm up a bit, which means it is time to show you my favorite spring products! The spring season brings a time of fresh, clean colors, which is exactly what we want with our makeup during this time of year. You will find everything from exfoliating products, lip balms, blush, and even nail polish in an array of spring colors. Enjoy!

Daily Rehydrating Sunscreen: First things first. When spring arrives, so does our time spent under the sun. We need to protect our skin every day or we risk damaging it from those harmful UV rays. I like this sunscreen because it also acts as an incredible moisturizer. You can use it before you start your regular makeup routine. Do not forget to apply this sunscreen to your neck, shoulders, and any other part of your body that will be exposed to the sun.

8 Naturally Based Skincare Items

Natural Skincare

I’m pretty picky in the skincare department. I mean, yeahhhhh…I’m open to trying just about anything but when I am buying for myself, I tend to run to the skincare brands that use natural ingredients. Are “natural” and “organic” totally trigger words that make people feel like they’re using products that are better than the alternatives? Yep! But whatever. Here are 8 brands that have totally peaked my interest. And wallet!

My Top 5 Favorite Beauty Tools

Beauty Tools

Tools of the trade, baby. All of us beauty lovin’ guys and gals have them. I actually have A LOT but have managed to list just 5. These are the tools that I simply can’t live without.

Dem tweezahs!

Yooooo, where would I be without tweezers? I would be a hot mess. I’d be a confident hot mess, but a hot mess nonetheless. Tweezers are everything for a girl like me who naturally grows bushy brows and a beard. Okay, it’s not a full blown beard but if I didn’t tweeze it, I could probably beat a 13-year old boy in a ‘stache race. It’s sad. And I hate it. But tweezers make my life fuller, richer and I feel so much more confident owning several of ’em.

Liquid Pump Dispenser

Okay, it’s not that big of a deal. Just kidding, it is. I looooove these pump dispensers. I still use that fantastic (but over priced) nail polish remover that is Zoya Remove + and that was when I was first introduced to that kind of bottle. Now I’ve got a dozen of them all over the house. It’s not a “tool” per se but I find them so incredibly useful for toner, alcohol and even vinegar for spot cleaning in the kitchen. Technically, vinegar could be considered a tool, too but I’ll save that for another day.

simplehuman mirror

It’s funny what happens when you look at your face through a well lit mirror. I don’t care how beautiful you think you are (and you ARE beautiful, babe), you may gasp in horror. You SEE things when you look at yourself through one of those mirrors. Pores look like boulders and you’re never really prepared for this kind of thing. Even still, I love my simplehuman Mirror. It is absolutely wonderful. I’ve stared at my mug for hours just plucking and analyzing and really it’s one of the best beauty tools out there.

Acrylic containers

I rock the minimalist look when it comes to storage. While I love bright and bold colors, I tend to let the cosmetics do the talking and store them in clear acrylic containers. Oh, how I love these. Stores like The Container Store carry them in soooo many different sizes and I love that they can make your space look clean and sophisticated. I love this set, too!

Clarisonic  Mia

Obviously, right? I’ve been bragging about this thing for almost 5 years now. And here’s why. But also, here’s another reason. I have GOT to get my hands on that baby.

What beauty tools rock your world?

5 of the Best Beauty Items Under $10

Best Beauty Items under 10

I’m doing another post with my Makeup Wars sisters and this week we’re talking about some our favorite beauty items that just happen to be under $10 a piece. This is easy for me since I tend to lean more to lower-end cosmetics versus the expensive stuff. I can make more money in life and still have a hard time justifying a $40 mascara. Seriously, y’all. Luckily the babies that I’m mentioning in this posts are not only affordable but easy to find, too. Woohoo!

Best Eye Shadow Palette: Sleek Makeup – $9.60

I first discovered Sleek Makeup sometime last year and I’ve been hooked on them ever since. They recently sent me a box of goodies and I got to sneak a peek at a new palette. I haven’t tried them all but I do own thier  i-Divine AU Natural Palette and giiiiirl, lemme tell you. It is the real deal. I’m amazed at how cheap they are because the quality of the shadows are pretty stellar. Long lasting, extra pigmented and full of various textures, I have yet to come across a palette from them that I didn’t love.

Best Makeup Brushes: Real Techniques – $9.92

I’ve been on the Real Techniques bandwagon for quite some time and I’m still a rollin’. They can do no wrong in my eyes. They are the reason why I don’t even look at higher end makeup brushes. Sold online and at ULTA, finding a makeup brush that is efficient and lasts through tons of applications and washes couln’t be easier. I have a ton of their brushes but really it’s this Core Collection set that I can’t get enough of. I recommend it time and time again to  anyone who wants really good makeup brushes that are also affordable.

How Lupita Nyong’o Has Changed The Beauty Game

Lupita Nyong'o Lancome

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve done a fun post with my Makeup Wars sisters! This time we’re talking about our favorite celebrity for a beauty brand. It didn’t take long for me to think of this one. Naturally, I tend to be attracted to celebrity ads with celebs who are, you know, darker skinned. This doesn’t mean I can’t find beauty in all ads but I love to see women who look like me because even in 2015, it is STILL a rarity. That said, Lupita Nyong’o for Lancôme is my current favorite celebrity for a beauty brand.

Girlfriend’s beauty is just breathtaking. I first fell in love with her acting and after that, there was her fashion, poise and speeches. Lupita has this glorious air about her and while I’ve never thought Lancôme to be a brand that was highly diverse in their offerings for darker skinned girls, I’m happy they’ve added her to their ambassador lineup.. Granted, I’m more attracted to their mascaras than their foundations, but still. Lupita’s face and appearance in Lancôme ads has proven several things:

EDDIE

Spring is here, y’all. I am forever grateful because I am just NOT here for that winter’y stuff. Floridian and all, I can’t even bother to think about leaving the house when it’s under 50 degrees. Workout Approved Cosmetics for the Busy Professional

Workout Approved Makeup (for the busy

Fitness. Lawd. I just…man, you know what? I’ve really gotta get it together this year. Here’s the thing. In 2014 I ran a total of 10 races. Yes y’all. Me. This never been an athlete in her life chick joined Black Girls Run and…was a black girl that ran. Pretty freaky stuff. But I’ve got A LOT to do including dropping a loooot of weight and quitting the “OMGGGG, I don’t have time because I work full time and my husband travels and I’m a mom” excuses.

So. I’ve been getting it in. Very excited to bounce back on board with my Makeup Wars sisters as we highlight some of our favorite workout approved cosmetics.

Makeup Wars: Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia palette review + tutorial

This is a very special Makeup Wars because a few of us gals were so graciously sent the Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia palette to review. I haven’t been keeping up with the awesome things that Ana has goin’ on and uh…talk about a mistake. This palette has reignited the admiration that I have for the brand.

Anastasia Maya Mia palette

Designed by blogger and makeup artist Maya Janeska. This East African beauty is not only stunning but puts out amaziiiiing tutorials and has a jumpin’ Instagram channel. She collaborated with Anastasia Beverly Hills to put together a fantastic palette.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia palette

It really is unlike any eyeshadow palette that I’ve seen before because within the 10 shadows, you’ve got two pops of color – including that very bright Aqua!

What a nice little surprise, right? I’ve found that the Aqua works very nicely on the lid and even used as a liner on the waterline. Included with the palette are 5 Get The Look cards . Maya has given us step-by-step instructions on how to achieve various looks. Of course I fell in love with the look that used that stunning Aqua. I’m lovin’ how the cards tell you at the top which shadows you’ll be using.

Swatch-wise, I would have loved for these to be more intense.

They pop well on my skin but if we could have taken the intensity level up a bit more, I would have been a happy girl. And then there’s a nice dual-sided brush!

But despite that, this palette inspired me to do a tutorial which, ohmigosh y’all…I haven’t done in years! It is such a challenge to do a tutorial under 5 minutes. My girl Phyrra has perfected this so until I grill how she does her tutorials, you lovely people will have to deal with my choppy tutorials. And bad brows. Because yeah. My brows look baaaad in that video. Oh well. 😎

You can get this palette from ULTA.com for an easy $29.
