Mascara Monday: Lancome Définicils Pro mascara

Happy Monday, family! I’m back. “B…where did you go?” Thanks to Blogger’s “scheduled posts” thingie…..I bet yall didn’t even know I ghost, uh? I spent New Year’s and my birthday in Atlanta and had a BALL! I will be sure to post random pictures/commentary about my trip. Beauty and B’s life. What could be better? I hope you all could smell the sarcasm in that last statement. HA!! Enough ramblin’…let’s bring on the review, yo!

Lancome Définicils Pro mascara

Price: 1 out of 5 ($24…can’t even lie. That’s a little steep)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4.5 out of 5

What it claims: “Lashes With Superb Definition. For lavishly long, perfectly defined lashes, this best-selling mascara provides the ultimate in shaping and separation. Patented brush coats each lash, from base to tip, for superb definition.”

The truth: WTF! OMG…this is an amazing mascara!!

What I loved about it:
That is works! The definition is really there!

What I didn’t like: That it’s too expensive. :( LOL…I know that’s not a real reason to dislike a product but look…I’m keepin’ it real, fam. And the clump factor was apparent. Uh oh.

Overall: I can’t believe that I am just now testing and reviewing this jewel here on Clumps of Mascara. Lancome Définicils (along with other mascaras from Lancome) has always been one of those mascaras that I “heard” was good but good but never got around to testing. I finally got the opportunity to test it when it came in my Lancome Beauty Box. Wow oh wow! The definition is there like crazy!! After about 2 coats I got amazingly dark and full lashes. The length was right on too. However, I found that after the 2nd coat I was escorted to Clumps City…a place I don’t like to visit when using mascaras. No worries. I found that 2 coats was enough for me. If you feel as if you need MORE coats, view my video to see a little trick that can steer you away from Clump City. As far as durability goes? It’s there! I didn’t experience any flaking or smudging yet it removed with ease. I should have known. Lancome, how you impress thee!!

Lashes with NO mascara

Lashes with TWO coats

Would I recommend it?: Sho do…that’s the Southern girl in me but in other words, “YES!” It is quite the splurge but definitely worth it as it gives all over eye definition.

Check out what my Twitter fam has to say about this macsara:

@luxetips Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay!

@minordetail I still have to try it!

@reallifecitygirl thats a definite yay! Love the stuff! Been using it since junior high

@FacePaint101 YAY!! It’s one of my fave mascaras

If that ain’t enough confirmation, I don’t know what is? Have you tried this mascara? Or any of Lancome’s mascaras? Tell me what you think!

Random Trip flick:

My best friend and I in a fountain in Atlanta’s Olympic Park. I was trying to look all glamorous but really I was 2 seconds from bustin’ my booty on that ice cold water. Good times, good times….

A new year and a new start,

Mascaras of 2008: 3-rating

We are at the mid-way point of the Mascaras of 2008! Think of 3-rated mascaras as the letter-C mark that you got on that midterm paper you did in high school or college. You remember….the one that you didn’t really put your ALL into. That’s how I feel about these mascaras here. They were just “eh”. Missing something. Lacking “umph”. And the funny thing is…you had high expectations getting a pretty decent grade. But…a C+? Ralphie knows what I’m talkin’ about.

Mascaras with a 3-rating by ClumpsOfMascara

Prescriptives Beyond Long
Bourjois Pump Up the Volume
CoverGirl Lash Exact
Napoleon Perdis Set
Max Factor 2000 Calorie
MAC Fibre Rich
L’Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes

I may get a lot of heat for that last one but I just wasn’t a huge fan of L’Oreal’s newest fiber mascara. Have you tried this one? What say you?

Mascaras of 2008: 2-rating

Hey fam! It’s Part Deux of the Mascaras of 2008 installment. First is the worst but in this case, second is not the best. These mascaras were disappointing. Either they didn’t do what they SAID they were going to do or they gave me basic mascara problems. You know….clumping, flaking, disappearance in the middle of the day, etc. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend these mascaras but Lord knows I’ve seen worse.

Mascara’s with a 2-rating by ClumpsOfMascara

Clinique High Impact
L’Oreal High Drama Volumizing
Christian Dior: DiorShow Blackout
Maybelline Define-A-Lash
Avon Supershock

To be honest, I have since re-reviewed DiorShow and I would rate it more than a “2”. I still find it to be clumpalicious. Have you tried any of these mascaras? What do you think?

Check out 1-rating mascaras and stay tuned for 3-rating mascaras tomorrow!

Enjoy the last few days of ’08,

Mascaras of 2008: 1-rating

I’m back! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas. I enjoyed mine immensely. I am taking a break on Mascara Monday to bring you the entire list of reviewed mascaras of 2008.

Welcome to the first post of the 5-post installment of Mascaras of 2008! I would have never thought that I would be an avid mascaras but alas the bug has bit me and I enjoy bringing mascara reviews “Clumps” style. Whatever that means. ;)

First up are mascaras with the 1-rating. This means…well, they sucked. They were a waste of money. The only BENEFIT in purchasing these was to help others NOT purchase them. I am still having nightmares about that Wet ‘N Wild one. And don’t let Rihanna’s darling little commercials and ads fool you…CoverGirl’s Exact Eyelights, in my opinion, is the most dangerous mascara I have ever reviewed. Find out why!

Align Center

Sephora Lash Plumper

Wet ‘N Wild’s MegaVolume
CoverGirl Exact Eyelights

What do you think? Can anyone else co-sign on CG’s Eyelights? Am I overreacting? What is by far the WORST mascara that you have ever reviewed?

Stay tuned tomorrow for 2-rating mascaras.

Always,

Mascara Monday:Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara

Happy Monday, beautiful people!! I hope that you all had wonderful weekends. I managed to brave the last minute holiday shoppers and spend some time at Border’s Bookstore getting some much needed ClumpsOfMascara.com work done. I always get the best work done in a bookstore. I am a little late on reviewing this mascara being that I got several requests a few weeks ago. I have created a nice little “mascaras to review” spreadsheet that should aid in prompt review of the most requested mascaras. Thank you all for being so patient with me. Bring on the Stiletto!

Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (a little less than $7 from Wal-Mart)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: ” Ultimate Length Mascara…seductive length, shiny patent finish, strengths and conditions” (per the packaging)–update your website, Maybelline!

The truth: Yes ladies and gentleman, your eyes do not deceive you…this is indeed a 5! Granted I have always been a Maybelline mascara fan but this baby here actually DOES what it says it’s going to do.

What I loved about it:
Okay, we can all agree on the fabulousness that is the packaging of this mascara. So slick and classy. It is definitely a step up from neon yellows and greens that Maybelline is known to come out with. I do have other loves about this mascaras but the packaging is my #1!

What I didn’t like: What’s not to like? The packaging is hot and the lengthening is up to par. No complaints here!

Overall: Yes, I am a little late reviewing this baby. Don’t hate me. I really had a hard time finding it…rumor has it that this mascara isn’t out everywhere and that Maybelline is really just “testing” it. Don’t ask me what that means. My sources aren’t TOO sure about this so don’t go around saying, “Brit said…”. LOL! I love this mascara and think that it is AMAZING as far as lengthening mascaras go. I mean….amazing. The wand (which I forgot to take a picture of..sorry!) is my ideal wand in that it is defined enough to get EVERY lash and it is small enough to give you good control. YES!

I personally think that all mascaras need to have smaller wands..they are just easier for application. Those big chunky wands (ahem…Maybelline Colossal) are hell for the clumsy folx of the world i.e. myself.

I didn’t experience any clumps, flaking or smudging with the Stiletto. I am highly impressed with this mascara. Like….a lot. I am now putting it on the HG Lengthening mascara list. That says a lot!

Mascara Monday: Max Factor 2000 Calorie

Happy Monday, beautiful people! Can you believe that Christmas is next week? Have you snagged your gifts yet? Not me! I have never been a good gift giver. Perhaps lack of funds? Who knows..

Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (a little less than $7 from Ulta)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 1 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims: ” Get a dramatic look with 2000 Calorie Mascara — it volumizes lashes up to 200%. Water resistant and smudge-proof hypoallergenic formula is suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. With curved brush applicator.” (source)

The truth: Dramatic? Not so much!

What I loved about it:
It gave a little length to my lashes. But nothing that my current HG lengthening mascara can’t do.

What I didn’t like: The flipping wand was the worst thing I have ever seen Seriously..it was a clumpy mess and maybe it’s just be but I’m not a big fan of curved brushes. I don’t even see the point of them.

Overall: For starters, the picture I have listed is not the the EXACT same one as the one I purchased. In fact, after doing further research, I found that Max Factor has a number of 2000 Calorie mascara. The one I really wanted to try out was the 2000 Calorie Lash Extreme plumper. This mascara, I found to be just “okay”. I was actually a little disappointed. It wasn’t BAD, but I guess I didn’t understand what it was supposed to do. The volume was just so so. I didn’t experience and flaking throughout the day and the clump factor was down a bit. Definitely nothing to brag about.

Lashes with NO mascara

Lashes with TWO coats

Would I recommend it?: Not at all. I would hold out for the Lash Extreme plumper. Click the link below to visit the video review.
