Yaaaay! The chick who has a blog about mascaras is finally doing a mascara review. Finally, right? Woot! During my hiatus, I was pretty ghost in the mascara exploring department. I pretty much wore the same thing ALL the time. Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara. But a few weeks ago, I finally got into the groove of things and Maybelline’s Lash Sensational mascara called my name. And so I purchased it!
I spotted this baby at Target and packaging-wise, it looks like…you know, Maybelline’s other 28,000 mascaras. But that wand. The wand sold me!
For the first time EVER in Clumps of Mascara history, I am posting a mascara review on a day that isn’t Monday. Yeah. Craziness, huh? I did a video review of Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Pumped Up mascara and instead of waiting another week to do a blog post, I figured I’d just give you the post now.
Besides, do I only have to post on Mascara Mondays? Naw. It’s all good. And so is this mascara. I won’t ramble too much (I did enough of that in the video) but this waterproof mascara is quite fitting for summer. Maybelline has given us plenty of waterproof mascaras before but it’s nice of them to roll one out the first time they release a mascara.
The wand is pretty cool to work with, too.
I recently came back from a week long trip from Virginia – which, by the way, the high there was like 80 degrees. SERIOUSLY???? Because when you live in Florida, you just assume that it’s butt hot everywhere else in the world. Yeah no. Mind blown. Anyway, enjoy the video review version of this mascara.
Have you tried this mascara yet? What are you thinkin’? Yay or nay?
So I’m not gonna lie…I am pretty boring in the eyeliner world. And it’s not because I work some professional job or that I consider myself to be Mrs. Conservative. Naw. I just really love black eyeliner. I wear it everyday and very rarely will I wear another color. Do I love emerald greens, bright blues and royal purples on my eyes? Yeeeep. But black liner is staple, girl. It just is. This edition of the Makeup Wars, us gals are sharing some of our favorite black eyeliners. I thought I’d stick with my faithful Urban Decay Zero, but really I’ve tried a TON of black eyeliners that I’ve loved.
They are far from cheap but I can’t get enough of Urban Decay’s pencil eyeliners. Especially that Zero. For some reason, my eyes have gotten really sensitive over the years and the only pencil that I KNOW won’t leave me tearing up is Zero. Oh, and it doesn’t budge. At all. I’ve purchased and repurchased this pencil so many times. Like, you don’t even want to know how many times…
So they suck in the foundation diversity game, but Physicans Formula makes some realllllly nice eyeliners. Their liquid and pencil eyeliners are pretty cool, but really its their dark and smooth Kohl eyeliner pencil that just makes me go gaga. I can’t get enough of it for when I really want to smoke out my eyes.
Maybelline really gave us a gem when they put put their Eye Studio Ink Pen Eyeliner. The Black version of this liquid eyeliner pencil is spectacular.
A few years back, NYX gave us an entire collection of black liners that I couldn’t get enough of. They were so cool to give us these because each liner has a different formula. Everything from matte to sattin and liquid, NYX had us covered on the black liners front.
When I really want some pop to my upper lashline, I love Essence’s Metallic black eyeliner. It has just a very small amount of shimmer that really makes the eyes stand out. And it’s only $1.99 and does darn good around water and sweaty situations.
I did a review on Urban Decay’s Perversion cream liner and I still loving that baby from the moon and back. Other runner ups are Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream in Shade 27 and the cult fave MAC Blacktrack gel liner.
And let’s not forget Milani as they are always there to give us budget-friendly sturdy liners in all shapes and sizes.
I could really go on and on, but I’ll stop here and let my girls share with you some of their favorite black eyeliners…
Goodness gracious. Mascaras have the longest names these days. I mean, my goodness….! I guess when you’ve been making mascaras since 1914, you run out of short and to the point names. I get it. Maybelline has a new mascara on the block and while I am usually excited about their new mascaras, this one didn’t excite me too much at first glance. Which is shocking because I usually go gaga over dual-wand mascaras. Did application and performance of this baby change my mind?
Nothing fancy in the packaging department…
Price: $7.99 in drugstores
Packaging (brush wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 3.5 out of 5
What It Claims: “Revolutionary dual-ended Mascara for 360° all around Lash Glam. Two brushes specifically designed for top and bottom lashes. Special quick-dry formula holds lashes in place” (source)
The Truth: I’ve had better Maybelline mascaras but this one isn’t too shabby.
What I Loved About It: I do love the option of having two wands. Not ideal for everyday use but if you’ve got the extra time, it works!
What I Didn’t Like: The volume power is just so so.
Overall: This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a wand like this from Maybelline. Back in the day they had mascaras with dual wands. One wand was for a primer and the other was the actual mascara. Those were just so so. I actually like this mascara a little bit better because at least you can see the impact that is made. I like the idea of being able to have a mascara for those hard to get smaller lashes. Most wands make it difficult to do because the wands are large. The baby wand is fantastic for this purpose. Look how wittle she is…
I found that this wand is also great for grabbing the inner lashes too. And I suppose if you have super tiny lashes, they work for those too. The regular wand, however just isn’t plush enough to provide a ton of volume. I mean it does ohhhhkay.
It’s a nice wand. I think it’s great for separating and attempting to straighten out wonky lashes but I didn’t find it to be insanely impactful for those seeking crazy huge lashes. If you’re desirous are defined lashes without much POW, this mascara will work. But if you’re like me and need for folx to see your lashes before they see you…well, you may be disappointed. On the good side, the formula was easy to apply and I didn’t get any clumps. Score! So yeah, it’s not my favorite mascara but hey, if you are serious about maintaing those bottom lashes, me thinks you’ll like this baby. I also found it to be pretty lightweight. No heavy lashes here. I had nice and fluffy lashes all day. But on the downside, fluffy lashes don’t stand up too well in Florida humidity.
Lashes after 2 coats
Do I recommend it?: Meh. I think Maybelline has better mascaras in stores these days. Even the Rocket is better than this one.
Okay Maybelline mascara lovers, what did you think about this one?
I know. I can’t stop talking about ’em. Yah. I am that obsessed with Maybelline’s Color Sensational lipsticks. These things are magnificent, y’all. And so unexpected! I mean, who knew that a drugstore brand would be launching such beautiful and BRIGHT lipsticks? This never happens. We usually have to head to department stores to see brilliance. Maybelline is givin’ us face this season.
…and I am soooo here for it. I’ve been braggin’ about the awesomeness of these thangs for quite some time so please allow me to show them off via pics. You cool with that?
Formula-wise, they are like traditional lipsticks in that they may be a bit drying so wearing a lip balm underneath them is a must. Wear time is dependent on what you got goin’ on. A ton of eating and drinking may result in your lipstick fading a bit but I think that’s to be expected. I find that I get the best wear time out of these when I blot with a tissue after applying. Some have a bit of a stain-effect so even if I’m drinking on somethin’, the color will stick around a bit longer.
And now the beauties –
Brazenberry is a cool medium berry. It’s such an interesting shade of purple. I found it worked best when I wore it with a plum lipliner.
Electric Orange is a straight up ORANGE lipstick. It definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. I was surprised at how I can wear this without a liner or anything. ‘Scuse my flaky lippies on this one.
Hot Plum is a vivid magenta and I found it to be extremely wearable.
Neon Red is an orange-y red and it is briiiiight. It has quite a bit of orange for me but I can still rock it confidently. This is THE lippy color of the season.
On Fire Red is a great blue toned red lipstick. If Neon Red isn’t exactly up your alley, On Fire Red is it.
Pink Pop is a frosty bubblegum pink.
Vivid Rose is my absolute favorite of the bunch. It’s a punchy hot pink that is officially my color of the season.
Of course you can grab all of these at Target. That is, if you can find them. It was hard tracking these babies down because they are super popular. Simply put – these rocks. Especially if you’re the type to be a bit adventurous in the lipstick department.
Which one are you lovin’ the most?

I was actually kind of excited about trying and falling in love with this eye makeup remover. I’ve been using expensive eye makeup removers for years now and I’m sick of it. I can go budget for practically anything but when it comes to removin’, I can’t help it if the expensive stuff seems to be better for me.
But I knew good ole’ Mayb wasn’ going to let me down with this innovative gel makeup remover. I knew I was glaring at a winnah!
Or so I thought.
At first glance, the remover looks pretty stellar.
Gorgeous packaging? Check.
Stellar claims? Check.
She promises to not only remove makeup but to also soothe the skin as well. Having a lousy eye makeup remover just isn’t an option for me. I need a spectacular one. IF you tell me you’re going to remove every trace of my eye makeup including waterproof mascara, then I expect you to. Period. Wellllllls, this remover wasn’t so hot. But let’s talk about her pros.
I don’t think I’ve ever come across a remover with a formula like this so I can appreciate Mayb pushing the envelope a bit. I popped the top and I was impressed with the housing there…
This allows you to only put a teeny bit amount on a cotton ball, swap or Qtip. Cool, right? But it was really the fragrance that threw me for a loop. Okay, granted I am sensitive to fragrances but this stuff was stroooong. It smelled floral and just…nauseating. I get it. People like scents, but come on – do you need a makeup remover with a fragrance? I don’t think so. Fragrance-free is the way to go with stuff like this. The consistency was interesting…
And I found that it wasn’t as effective as a remover with more of an oil or watery consistency. In fact, it took almost an ounce of remover to complete remove my eyeliner and mascara. Plus, I just didn’t like how the “gel” felt around my eyes. Soothing, yes? But I felt like it kept seeping in my eyes. It’s a personal thing, I guess because I know some people can’t get down with removers with an oil consistency.
So yeah – this definitely wasn’t up my alley.
The BasicsPrice: $4.99
Availability: Scoop it up at any drugstore both online and in stores. Target and Walmart too!
Do I recommend?: Nope. I wasn’t a fan.
Have y’all tried this? What makeup remover are you currently using?
Oh darlings – Spring is almooooost in the air. And no one knows this better than my retail BFF, Target. I love me some Target. It’s more than love, really. It’s like an obsession. Target isn’t even just a noun in my book. It’s a verb. I Target. Yuuup. It really is THAT serious. And look what I found on my most recent trip…
First of all, like the Maybelline Color Whispers lippies, I pretty much need all of these too. Neon Red is perhaps one of my favorites of the bunch because it’s bold enough to rock confidently but yet it’s not TOO over the top. Not that I have a problem rockin’ over the top lip colors. 😎 I’ve been meaning to do a full out review of these but just know that if you are looking for a new lipstick shade and you aren’t bashful, you’ll love Neon Red. I’m picky about my reds so I’m kinda shocked that I love this one so much as it has a little more orange in it than I would like. But I’m not complaining too much because darling, it is just THAT fierce. Yes, girl yes. And thank you Target Beauty for carrying these beauties. Have you discovered these in your Target? Target is all ready for Spring and even if the weather in your neck of the woods says otherwise, you can’t deny the Spring-y feeling you get from watching this beauty vid.
