Willa Naturals: Natural skincare for tweens.

Inspired by the delicate skin of her preteen, Christy Prunier has launched a natural skincare line of products just for the preteens and teens of the world. And the name of the brand is Willa!

Dear Mama Clumps,
How come you never developed a skincare line and named it after me? I guess it’s never too late to start. Bee’s Lippies, maybe? Let’s think about it.
XOXO,
B

Seriously though – what a cool concept, uh? I mean think about it – you’re 10, 11, 12 or 13…you don’t know much about skincare but you do realize you should be doing more than just splashing water on it at night. What do you use? Your Mom’s face wash has anti-aging properties splattered all over it and your younger sister’s products are for babies. And come on…you’re not a baby. And hence why Willa was born!

I think this line absolutely fills the market of young girls who are taking baby steps into skincare. And I just love that the brand omits the yucky ingredients It’s a paraben-free, cruelty-free and sulfate-free brand. I got to play around with the foaming cleanser and moisturizer. I wanted to use them and tap into my 11-year old self. Would I have used this back then?

Foaming Face Wash ($11 for 5.1 fl oz)

Developed to be a gentle face wash, the goal is simple: it helps to remove dirt from the skin. That’s it. And that’s really all a preteen needs in a face wash, right? The foaming action makes it easy to not over-distribute and it’s fun!

My 11-year old self would have had a ball with this. Scent-wise, I picked up on a ton of lavender but it’s not an overwhelming but pleasant enough for the young girls. I can appreciate that it doesn’t smell too kiddy. I would have cried if this smelled like bubblegum or somethin’ like that. Ick.

Clear Face Moisturizer ($11.50 for 1 fl oz)

While I think the packaging for this kid is a bit too small, I love the concept behind this moisturizer. Unlike most moisturizers on the market it isn’t super creamy or heavy. It’s a lightweight serum and has aloe, grape seed extract and has eucalyptus throughout. Genius! This is exactly what preteen skin needs. And by lightweight, they mean lightweight…

Of course my troubled skin requires more but this is perfect for the younger girlies. I love the scent on this one as it is very faint and dissipates after application. The moisturizer sinks in the skin but doesn’t feel oily or greasy.

What an adorable brand! The packaging is right up the alley of the preteens of the world and I think the products I’ve tried are pretty stellar. The price point is a little higher than what a parent may want to pay for but I’ll be one of those mommies that stresses healthy hygiene and so an investment of a “good” brand of skincare products is worth it to me.

Willa also has an Acne Spot Treatment Click Pen, Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30, Face Towelettes, Cucumber Masks, Body Lotion and cutesy glosses. Everything is under $17.50 so parents won’t be breaking the bank if their daughters (or sons) develop a Willa obsession.

Adorable, right? You can scoop up Willa products online and at select Target sotres and J.Crew’s.

Okay, admit it – who else wasn’t thinking about healthy skin betwen the ages of 10 and 13? Anyone?

Mascara Monday: Korres Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara

It’s been forever and a day since I’ve played around with Korres stuffs. And it’s a shame because Korres is one of my favorite preservative-free brands. Their Lip Butters are by far some of the best lip balms on the planet. And don’t even get me started on their Cleansing Wipes. This is my 3rd Korres mascara and it’s one of the most interesting mascaras that I’ve ever reviewed.

Price: $20 at Sephora and Sephora.com
Packaging (brush wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “This Obsidian black is formulated with volcanic minerals for the deepest, darkest color and an explosive increase in lash volume. These rich pigments blend with natural film formers to create a flexible yet strong coating that covers every lash. Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara provides a glossy, luminous finish with a flexible conditioned feel, without any smudging or flakes for optimal, long-wearing benefits. The tapered brush head with unique cross-hatch bristles ensures smooth, clump-free application that grabs even the tiniest microlashes.” (source)

The Truth: Soooo, I’ll be reviewing a ton of mascaras in the coming weeks but THIS one will be my go to. It’s awesome!

What I Loved About It: It does such an incredible job volumizing with just 1 coat.

What I Didn’t Like: It has the tendency to clump.

Overall: Oh man, Korres. Y’all knocked this one out of the park. What a fantastic mascara! I’ve had good and fair experiences with Korres mascaras but I always review a new one with high hopes. It’s great to know that this one didn’t let me down. First of all…volcanic minerals? I question the validity of this one.

Did a makeup artist wake up one day and say, “OMG…we should go to a volcano, get some minerals and put it in a mascara. It’ll be epic. And one day a blogger who blogs about mascara every week will review it and love it.” I mean, I don’t know. Legit or gimmicky, the formula of this mascara is pretty stellar. It sits comfortably between thin ‘n thick without weighing more on one side or the other. The wand is decent too.

It’s nothing groundbreaking and I can appreciate that. Sometimes brands try way too hard to impress us consumers when it comes to mascara wands. I can appreciate what’s been working for years. There is one thing about this mascara that may throw you off though – the smell.

If you’re used to wearing natural (or preservative-free) mascaras, you are likely used to “interesting” smells. While this one isn’t as bad as some of the other scents I’ve gotten from natural mascaras, it may be a bit off putting to some. Oh. So you want to know WHAT it smells like? Woody, organic-y, green…. Horrible descriptions I know but if you try this mascara, you’ll understand what I mean.

When it comes to performance, I don’t know how these volcanic minerals do it, but they do it well. The wand makes for easy application and wiggling it through the lashes really helps elongate the lashes. My favorite thing about this mascara? How long it lasts! This isn’t the case with most natural mascara so I was really excited to know that I could wear this throughout an 8-hr workday without it flaking on me. And it removes super easily as well. Flaking is minimal and while I didn’t experience any smudging, I don’t think this is the ideal mascara for those who are looking for something waterproof. And sure it’s not the perfect volumizing mascara but it’s amazeballs nonetheless.

This baby is  2-coat wonder. I am in love.

Bare Lashes

Lashes after 2 coats

Do I recommend it?: Absolutely! It isn’t the cheapest mascara on the market but if you’re a lover of preservative-free mascaras that last for hours on end, this is the one you’ll want to holla at.

Any lovers of Korres? And what do you think…are there really volcanic minerals in that mascara?

Neutrogena Naturals skincare is awesoooome!

Guess whaaaat? I’ve been testing a new skincare brand and my face hasn’t gone loco. Which is a HUGE deal. I’m pretty dedicated to the same skincare products. When they work, I keep using them. But at the same time I love reviewing skincare products soooooo yeah. I’m such a walking contradiction, uh?

When I was approached with the opportunity to test drive some Neutrogena Naturals products I was like, “Haaaay!”  Any time a huge brand says they’ve gone natural, I feel like it’s my duty to check ‘em out. Fo reals.

While I got to dilly and dally in the whole collection, these 4 are my absolute favorites.

The Purifying Facial Cleanser

Ah yessss. When it comes to cleansers, I feel simple is best. Which is why I really loved this one. And what’s the first ingredient on the list?

Water. My skin thanks you for this, Neutrogena. I’ve got normal skin that leans on the dry side so the added dose of moisture from the glycerin helped tremendously. I still get pimples every 2.3 hours and so the Willowbark acting as a natural salicylic acid was niiiiice. This is such a nice and gentle cleanser. While I’d be okay without fragrance, what little bit I did I get wasn’t too overpowering. The cleanser really DOES cleanse. It would probably be more suitable for those with oilier skin but I enjoy using it anyway. And I’m all for clear cleansers.

Creamier ones aren’t up my alley. And if it’s scrubs that you really like…you’ll love this one.

Purifying Face Scrub

I only use face scrubs once a week or so. I’m impressed with this one. The fragrance mimics the cleanser and it’s a bit on the creamier side with nice itty bitty micro-beads.

They do an effective job at scrubbing so long as you put in a little elbow grease. And once you’ve busted suds and you’re ready to put some moisture back in the skin, you’ve got 2 options. You can go with Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer or the Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream.

By day I roll with the Nourishing Moisturizer.

I know when it comes to facial moisturizers, everyooooone has different needs. There’s so much to take into consideration. Will this moisturizer work well with my foundation? Does it have SPF? Is it thick enough? Is it too thick? Is it oily? Is it pore clogging? When it comes to daytime moisturizers, I just need TWO things. 1. I need for it to contain SPF. I live in Florida. 2. I need it to lightweight and gentle. Because, yeah…while my skin is dry after cleansing, I sweat profusely (do I get a cookie for being honest?) and thicker day creams don’t do much for me. This day cream got 1 out of 2 points. I so wish there was a bit of SPF in it. But the silky smooth and gentle formula made up for it.

Yep. It sinks right into my skin without giving me an oily or greasy feeling.

Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream

I never understood the point of night creams but I don’t know…age is making me a wee bit wiser because now I totally get it. This cream provides the same silky smooth feeling except it’s just a wee bit thicker. Which works! It feels decadent and creamy and seemed to work really well with my skin.

I actually look forward to slathering this on at night because ohmigoodness, it just feel SO nice.

Neutrogena Naturals also has a Fresh Cleansing Makeup Remover, Face & Body Bar and a Lip Balm. All of the products are free of harsh chemical sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes and phthalates. Huge, right? If you’ve been looking to green up your skincare regimen, you should totally glance at Neutrogena Naturals.

And speaking of natural living, through Glam Media, I received a bag of eco-friendly natural goodies including a set of Organic Bamboo cooking spoons…

AND, something I’ve been lusting after fo’eva!

A Bobble; the reusable water bottle that filters water by using carbon. Instead of purchasing water bottles, I’ve been using a filter but when I’m out and about and don’t feel so inclined to gag while drinking Orlando’s water (if you’ve tasted it…you know what I mean), I tote the Bobble with me. Genius, I say!

I’m not perfect but I really try to make an effort to live naturally. How?

-I moved closer to my job. Less gas for me and less pollution for Mother Nature.
-I stopped buying water bottles and use reusable bottles.
-I use one killer multiple purpose soap. It not only cleanses face and body but my dishes, clothes and floors.
-I recycle.

Whether it’s greening up your skincare or using eco-friendly products, greener is always better, darlings. Have you spied Neutrogena Naturals in your drugstores?

My current facial cleanser. What are you washing your face with these days?

I’ve found a new face cleanser! This is a big deal, y’all. Despite being a beauty blogger, I am far from a product junkie. I stick with what works and while I may review a ton of skincare products, I usually stick with the same ones until they run out. What I review and don’t use, I often donate and pass over to those who I know who I know will use them. I just hate being wasteful, ya know?

A few weeks ago I was roaming through Chamberlin’s Natural Foods store here in Orlando and found myself venturing in the skincare lanes. I’m so ridic. I can MAKE my own skincare products but still feel the need to “buy” some. I’m no Mama Clumps. I don’t have the patience to make my own stuffs. And soooo I buy. This go ’round, I picked up a cleanser from a brand that I’ve never heard of.

Dr. Woods, uh? Is this Dr. Bronner’s cousin? Ha! I vigorously scanned the ingredients list and LOVED that there wasn’t any artificial fragrances in it. Too many times brands say a product is natural but then dump a ton of artificial fragrances in it. Which always annoys me.

This cleanser is so wonderful, y’all. So wonderful. I’ve found a keeper and don’t see myself venturing away from this one any time soon.

Pro’s

-Contains tea tree oil. My favorite all-natural pimple bustin’ agent.
-Includes peppermint oil and that makes the skin feel rejuvenated.
-A little goes a long way.
-Has a mint-y/tea tree oil smell to it. Which I really like but I can see how it may turn off others.
-Nice clear consistency. I prefer clear cleansers over creamy ones. Even though they may not be the best for my dry skin, I feel like they do a better job at drying out those pimples.
-Minimal ingredients!

Con’s

-Can dry the skin out. You have to apply moisturizer quickly!
-Pretty pricey in stores. I paid almost $12 for it but saw that you can get it online for as low as $4.69!

So yeah, I love everything about this cleanser. And I love that I can get it online for almost HALF of what I paid for it. Between this cleanser, my Weleda Almond moisturizer and Boscia masks, I have a nice line-up of preservative-free facial care products.

I love featuring ALL products here on Clumps but for every day use? I stick to all-natural, baby. With my acne flare-up’s, gentler is better, ya know?

What cleanser are your currently using these days?

The Sweaty Betty Diaries: Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens

Yours truly sweats like a beast. But of course you knew that, didn’t you? My friends are forever laughing at my inability to…not sweat. It’s just plain sad, I tell ya. Okay so yeah. Some of you guys and gals are battling freezing temps but such does not exist in the state of Florida. I sweat year round without prevail. These Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens are hookin’ a sista up though.

Like everything from Boscia, this little pack of sweat bustin’ linens is paraben-free and doesn’t contain any annoying fragrances or super strong scents. Which, of course, is a good thing because y’all know I can’t do super strong fragrances.

A pack of 100 sheets will run you $10, which isn’t a bad price. And I love how they smell.

If I sniff ‘em hard enough, I get a faint whiff of tea bag. Any oil-y residue and sweaty bits left on my forehead, cheeks and nose and instantly scooped by the linen. Easy peasy. Every beauty technique should be this easy. Don’t cha think?

You can grab these from Sephora stores and at Sephora.com.

A Dragon’s Blood bar of soap?

Yup. I’m back with a pretty soap from Soap Hope. I am probably the weirdo in my neighborhood because who really goes around taking pictures of bars of soap chillin’ in wood chips? A beauty blogger, that’s who! And I have no shame in my game. Plus, I always feel like “natural products” look so much better in natural settings. Know what I mean?

This is another wonder from Indigo Wild’s ZumBars. Have you ever heard of Dragon’s Blood? Yeah…well, me neither. It’s a tree resin. And contrary to the name, it doesn’t really come from the blood of a dragon. At least I hope not. Even if it does, though…it smells just wonderful. I’m a gal who loves woodsy scents and this bar is giving me that and more.

Plus I found it to be one of the few ZumBar soaps whose scent lasts for quite some time. Of the three that I’ve tried, I think this one may be my favorite.

Not that I’d toss my Cedar and Citrus Mint away. Will forever love Soap Hope for making these soaps affordable.

Have you tried argan oil?

Not too long ago I talked about the awesomeness that is maracuja oil. I’ve got another fascinating oil that you may not have heard about. Argan oil grows from the argan tree in Morocco and is rich in Vitamin E. Like most oils from nuts, you can use this on your nails, hair and body. It is practically odor-free and has a non-greasy consistency.

I am absolutely loving these oils. I’m going to play around with making homemade body and hair oils and use argan oil as a base.

This video gives a little more insight about how argan oil is made. And you can snag it from the website. I am usually a grapeseed, olive and jojoba oil kinda girl but I love exploring new oils.

Have you tried argan oil or products with argan oil in it?

tarte’s Maracuja Creaseless Concealer really doesn’t crease!

Concealer. I love that stuff. I seriously want to hug the person or team of folx that invented concealer. Concealer is the reason why I’ve never felt the need to wear foundations. If you can find a good concealer that can cover up discoloration on a few spots on your face, who needs foundation?

Okay, let me back up…I don’t mean it like that. Foundations can be great. But for a gal who lives in super hot Florida with bipolar acne-prone skin, foundation is hardly ever my first pick when I’m beautifying in the morning. Concealers, however…I loves ‘em! I am an enormous fan CoverFXs concealer but lately I’ve been playing around with tarte’s Marajuca Creaseless Concealer.

Now before you get TOO excited, I must warn you that this concealer is currently only available through QVC by purchasing the tarte Glow Your Way To Gorgeous 8-pc Maracuja & Clay Collection. The collection retails for $54.96 which would normally have me screaming, “OMG, that’s SO much money…” but you get so much in that collection that is totally worth your pretty pennies. But let’s rap on the concealer…

For now, the concealer only comes in 3 shades; Medium, Tan and Deep. While I know it hasn’t officially been released by itself, I certainly hope that tarte gives us more shade options. I’d love to see something a little lighter than Medium and a shade darker than Deep. For reference, I am MAC NW45 and while the concealer works great for me under the eyes, me thinks my even more richly hued gals (thanks for that term, Sam Fine!) will be happier with something darker than Deep.  While most concealer-wearers wear for their concealer to be lighter than their complexions, I actually like for my concealers to be as close to my complexion as possible. Deep isn’t quite there for me.

Buuuut when it comes to brightening up the under-eye area, it does a phenomenal job. I don’t know if it’s age, stress or lack of sleep (probably all 3, ha!) but the area under my eyes have been darker than I’d like. A few dots of this concealer…

And a gentle sweep to blend it in a bit…

Equals concealed under the eye areas. I can dig it. I dusted my favorite and staple tarte bronzer all over and loved the results. I was happy to see that the Creaseless-ness of the concealer is dead on. I didn’t experience any creasing whatsoever. Mind you, this was with a good 12+ hours of wear time. Like all tarte products, this concealer is paraben-free and free of synthetic ingredients and fragrances. It also includes that wonderful maracuja oil and I can’t wait for it to be released as a solo product.

Do you think you’ll be purchasing a concealer from tarte when it gets released? Whatcha think?
