Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Jellybean collection

It’s been super quiet on the Nubar front so I was really excited to see this collection hit my doorstep. If I could choose one brand that ALWAYS keeps me on my toes when it comes to innovative collection themes, it’s Nubar. This collection is based off of..Jellybeans! How ca-uuuuute!

I mean, even if you don’t like jellybeans, you just gotta love these colors. Each ones is named after a jellybean flavor. And each one is a creme. Which means one thing. They were realllllly hard to work with it. As are most cremes. I had to use 3 coats for each and still had to deal with a lot of a streakiness. Good thing these gorgeous shades were worth the trouble.

Okay so – I am reallllly working on taking better nail polish pics. I am experimenting with different cameras, lenses, lighting and set-up so hang in there with me until I find something that really works, okie dokie?

Kiwi is described as an opaque pastel green creme. It’s a gorgeous pastel green creme but this was one of the trickier shades to apply. Even after 3 uneven coats, I felt like I could have gone for another one.

Lemon is described as an opaque bright yellow creme and like all yellows, it gave me some trouble. Yellows are always worth the trouble because I just looooove how they look on my nails.

Strawberry is a semi-opaque light modern pink creme that looks cute and girly. Pink polishes are my least favorite but I can get down with this one because it has a beautiful jelly-esque finish.

Toasted Marshmallow is an opaque light carmelized brown creme and man…it looks funky, uh? It doesn’t exactly compliment my complexion but if you like those weird putty-type shades, you may get a kick out of this one.

Blue Raspberry is a semi-opaque light turquoise creme that looks more on the blue side than turquoise. In fact, I don’t spot much green in it. This one was the hardest to apply. I had to apply 4 coats just to get even coverage.

Grape is a semi-opaque medium modern purple that is soooo up my alley. It’s a little more opaque than the other shades but it still had some streakiness issues. Still. It’s a purple creme. You can never have too many of those.

Cherry is a semi-opaque bright orange red creme that is stunning. I love orange-y reds and this one is a knock out.

Blueberry  is an opaque medium vibrant blue creme. My camera couldn’t catch the bright awesomeness that is this polish. This may be one of my favorite blues ever. Aaaaand, it’s the one polish out of the bunch that applied without much trouble.

I rocked Blueberry for so long that I went ahead added some polka dots to it.

Must Haves:
-Blueberry. Obviously.
-Cherry. Especially if you don’t already have an orangey red.
If you snag any of these polishes, know that applying them is going to be hella challenging. Small strokes with just a dab of polish for each coat is the best way to go. So yeah – the formula wasn’t hot but Nubar can do no wrong in my eyes. This collection should be popping up on Nubar’s website in the next few weeks so keep those eye peeled if you spot some polishes that you just have to have.

Whatcha think? Got your eyes on any of these lovelies?

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Venetian Glass collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.
Oh la la! Nubar does it again!
What Nubar says about this collection, “Inspired by traditional Venetian glass, nubar’s Venetian Glass Collection captures the brilliant colors and flawless craftsmanship of the ancient traditional handmade glass of Venice. With vivid hues, a strong glass-flecked shimmer, and rich color saturation, these shades are as memorable as their inspiration.” (source)

I was so excited to try this collection. The colors are just so rich and Fall appropriate!

Verde means green in Spanish. But of course you knew that, right? Verde is also the name of the one of the most unique greens I have ever seen.

In darker settings, it looks like a dark forest green but when the light hits it…
….whoa mama!
Oro reminds me of Zoya’s Penny. I don’t wear golds often but when I do, I prefer them bling-y with nice orange undertones to them. And for that reason, I can show Oro lots of love!
Vaso is a purple that I’m surprised that I like! While purple polishes are my favorite, I don’t really like lavendar-esque type polishes. But Vaso is pretty! It adds a certain kind of sparkle to this collection.
Arencia is my favorite of the bunch. I just LOVE orange polishes and this may be my absolute favorite one. Nubar says that this orange “glows” and they ain’t lyin’. I can’t stop looking at my nails when I wear this.
…and I love how it looks with konad designs.
Caramello is a little warmer than her sister Oro but it still appeals to me. The application was a little funky. I applied 3 coats and still struggled with opacity. What’s that about yo?!
Vino is probably the most Fall color of the bunch. It’s deep and looks like it’s infused with dark cherry juice. Beautiful!
Bronzo is a burnt orange with a ton of bling.
Rosso is probably the most ordinary of the bunch. I think I have several reds that look like this. Still beautiful nonetheless!
I was totally wow-ed by this collection when I first laid my eyes on it. The finishes are fantastic. They have mico-glitter specks in them so while removing isn’t as bad as regular glitter polishes, it still requires some work. And by work, I mean a simple swipe won’t do it. I find that soaking a cotton pad with nail polish remover and placing it on the nail for a minute or so is the best route to go.

Arencia and Verde are the winners in this collection so if you don’t want to haul the entire collection, you just HAVE to take home those two.

You can buy the collection for $49.95 or purchase them individually for $7.49 here.

Amor de Lacquer: Night Skyline and 2010 collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar tries again to wow us with another unique collection. And like ALL of their collections, it works. This is one brand that keeps me on my toes as far as collection excitement goes. You never know what they’re going to come out with next.

Night Skyline consists of what Nubar calls ‘the shifting colors of  the evening’s sky’ (source). The 4-piece collection retailed at $24.99 includes three polish with a matte finish and a top coat. The idea is to rock the matte polish in all of its shine-less fashion AND apply a top coat if you need some extra bling. I get it, Nubar but this is what a lot of us have been doing for quite some time. I’ve always deemed matte polishes as versatile because you can wear them two different ways.

So the idea isn’t new but with Nubar’s creative collection theme and name, you can’t help be but drawn in.

Sunset is a stunning rich gold that is one of the few golds that compliments my skin tone. I think I prefer gold matte. It just looks so interesting and silky smooth.

Twilight reminds me a lot of Zoya’s Loredana, a similar gray matte polish that debuted in their Matte Velvet collection. Twilight does have a wee bit more silver in it but going on with the night sky theme, it works!

Midnight is your typical matte black polish. What I like about this one is that it has a bit of shine to it. In fact, it doesn’t look matte at all. Could this be enough to sway our matte haters?

In a separate 1-piece collection comes Nubar’s 2010.

If you’ve been on the hunt for its twin, Sally Hansen’s Hidden Treasure, this is the best way to go. 2010 is intended to be used as topcoat and it is a winner with all of its reflective glitter in a polychromatic base. Sounds technical, I know but watch this…

Hot stuff, uh? And it can be used on ANY kind of polish. Not bad for $7.49. You can cop that here.

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Fortress Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar hits us again with one of those “OMG, how did they think of this?” kind of collections.

Yes, girl…you eyes aren’t playin’ with you. It’s a bunch of grays and blacks. Brace yourself!

Citadel is described as a pale gray creme. It applies flawlessly without any streaks.

Marble Tower is almost looks Citadel except it is more pale. See the boo-boo I made on my middle finger? Gotta be careful with those creams. They tend to drag down to the cuticles a bit.

Barricade is a light gray that reminds me of wet cement.

Stronghold is a darker gray that is unlike any other gray that I own. I don’t know what it is about grays but I just love them!

Palisade isn’t the most unique of the bunch to me. Still a flawless gray nonetheless!

Dark Castle is described as a charcoal black with a subtle silver shimmer. When the light hits that shimmer, it radiates something beautiful.

Silver Sword is the perfect addition to this collection. Great polish, Nubar! I’ve never been a fan of gunmetal polishes but somehow this one works.

Knight’s Armor  is definitely my favorite. How awesome is the silver glitter?

I LOVED this collection. I love the theme and I love that Nubar is hittin’ us with polishes that a lot of brands steer away from. I didn’t have any application problems with any of these polishes, aside from Marble Tower dragging to my cuticles. Citadel and Marble Tower seem to be so much alike and I would have loved to see a bit of glitter thrown in one of them. A pale gray cream with silver glitter would be hot!

Are you a fan of black and gray polishes?

You can buy the collection for $49.95 or purchase them individually for $7.49 here.

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Risqué Reds collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar really knows how to release collections that make your heard turn. I love how most of their collections have color or formula themes. We’ve seen a collection of greens, mattes, browns (mega rare and unique!) and glitters. When it comes to themed collections, Nubar raises the bar and takes it to a whole ‘notha level.

Now they are bringing us a collection of colors that goes back to home.

Reds!

Enchanting Red is nice. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a red like this but I can dig it.

Fiery Red is more up my alley. It’s one of those “Look at my red nails!” colors. Loves it!

Torrid Red is described as a dark red with pronounced shimmer. It’s not my favorite in the bunch but it’s an awesome fall color.

Seductive Red is a winner in my book. What a flawless magenta-esque red. I love it! Even if it did drag on the cuticles a bit.

Sultry Red is another polish that drags to the cuticles. The formula is a wee bit watery on this baby. Still a nice subdued fire engine red with shimmer.

Sensual Red is my favorite because it is a stunning cream and applied beautifully.

Cabaret Red and Lustful Red are missing but not because I didn’t swatch them but because I got all mixed up when I organized this post. I couldn’t remember which polish was which! It frustrated me to no end. I mean, look at this…

These polishes look so much alike. Sure, one has more magenta in it than the other, but they are so close in color. I would have liked to see red glitter for layering. While I like this collection, I don’t think that all 8 of the polishes are must haves. A good one or two should be just fine.

I did have a few application problems with some of these babies. Some were a little watery; hence the dragging on the cuticles. While it’s not my favorite Nubar collection, I still give mad props to the company for releasing another cool themed collection.

You can buy the collection for $49.95 or purchase them individually for $7.49 here.

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Sparkles collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

When it comes to glitter nail polishes, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. Love them, I do. Removing them, I don’t. But some are so nice that they are worth the trouble of removing.

Take Nubar’s Sparkle collection for example.

This collection of glitters takes only requires 1-2 coats to achieve an opaque finish. Don’t believe me? Watch this!

Meadow Sparkle is pretty cool! A light green glitter is something I could have never imagined. This was the only one that needed 3 coats but no worries…once applied, it sparkles just as good as its classmates.

Star Sparkle is one of my favorites! It’s more than just a silver glitter. It has a holographic look to it that is just blinding. I love it!

It is a little thicker than most of the other polishes. But it’s not TOO much of a bad thing because that means it only needs one coat. Holler!

Petunia Sparkle is my favorite. What a gorgeous color! My camera is unable to to capture the essence of this magenta. It is so pigmented and I always get compliments when I wear this color. It’s the best!

But it does have its flaws….

Removing is a nightmare. But I just deal with it because it is just a fabulous glitter!

Night Sparkle is another must have. Wow! What a blue. It is so important to put down a base coat to prevent staining with this baby. But…wow-sers!

Fire Sparkle almost reminded me of China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps but Fire Sparkle has A LOT more glitter. It is insane. Which of course means I love it!

Violet Sparkle is indeed the best. I love love LOVE it! If I had a favorite color, this would be it. It is a rich royal blue with a good amount of hot pink glitter. It is magnificent. I can’t stop looking at my nails when I wear this color. My camera is having a tough time capturing a color this awesome so please don’t mind how OFF it looks in these photos.

Nubar’s Swatch:

Missing from the collection is Hyacinth Sparkles, a light purple and Sky Sparkles, a light blue. I can’t seem to find those boogers anywhere. I LOVED this collection. I didn’t love the removing process that comes with most glitters. It’s not something you can avoid…even if you use a base coat. I found that while these glitter polishes were easier to remove, they still let tiny micro glitters all under my cuticles and under my nails. I’m so meticulous that it took me FOREVER to thoroughly rid my nails of the glitter.

With all of these you will get an opaque finish in only one coat. Which is huge! Most glitters require 2-3 coats for complete coverage. I did, however, use 3 coats for each simply because I wanted to see the differences the number of coats would make. The must haves in this collection are Petunia Sparkle and Violet Sparkle. They are amazing!

You can get the entire collection here for $49.95 or buy them individually for $7.49/ea.

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Prisms collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar does it again. I think it’s safe to say that they are indeed one of my favorite nail polish companies EVER. They are always coming out with super unique collections. The Prisms collection is nothing but…wait for it…holos! Holos=holographic=death by love and admiration. Just look at these babies…

Here’s the rundown…

Brilliant actually looks more stunning than I thought it would. If I’m going to wear a light pink (gag), this is the way to do it!

Jewel is one of those colors that makes you say “Hmm…”. I didn’t have high expectations for it. Not sure why because Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection totally sold me on browns but Jewel was just “different”.

*drops jaw* Niiiice! And just to get an idea of how bling-tastic it is, check this out. *swoons.

Absolute is okay. I do wish it was more opaque because then it would have been STUNNING. It took a good 3 thick coats to cover up my stained nails.

Essence is should probably switch names with Jewel. I’m not the biggest fan of this rosy pink but it applies beautifully.

Gem is Jewel’s little sister. It has a little more gray in it but the same amount of holographic shimmer.

Spark looks funny on me but I still like it! It’s a tan with personality.

Prize is definitely my favorite of the bunch. It was opaque after only two coats and sparkles and shines from a mile away. Love love love this color!

Treasure is purple and that is reason enough enough for me to love it. It took three coats to reach complete opacity. It isn’t on Color Club’s Wild At Heart level but it certainly earns its place in the collection.

Yay to Nubar for stepping out of the box again! Holographic polishes are rarities so I hope this collection spearheads some kind of trend. I didn’t have any application problems with these babies although I do wish they were all all more opaque. Especially Absolute. How cool would it be to see a dark teal holographic? *faints*

Nonetheless, Nubar has impressed me again and I will continue singing praises about this nail polish brand.

You can get the entire collection here for $59.95 or buy them individually for $7.29/ea.

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar’s Fall 2009 Modern Matte collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Yesssss, more mattes. Am I loving this trend or what? I am having a ball reviewing collections from different brands. Everyone’s mattes are different and I have yet run into one that I didn’t like.

Nubar baby!!

You’ve seen me review Nubar before. Remember the Going Green collection? I am STILL in love with that Reclaim. Seriously the best green holo ever. Anywhoovers….let’s check out their mattes.

Prevail is one of those colors that you don’t see everyday. It’s very interesting. Like a dirty eggplant. Doesn’t look too matte-y though. Which is fine with me because it’s a funky and unique color anyway.

Oh wow….now I can get down with this. Contempo would be pretty boring if it wasn’t a matte. But since it is, it kinda rocks. It’s like a pearlized velvety tomato. I love it!

Vital is cool. Nothing spectacular. I didn’t think about it then but it would probably be insane with a glittery topcoat.

How ’bout Avant-Garde or Avant-Gorg! I love the way this baby pops on my skin.

Nubar’s mattes remind me a lot of Zoya’s mattes. They’ve got that velvet-y thing goin’ on. I’ve learned to appreciate mattes like this. They aren’t super super matte but are shiny enough to appease even the most anti-matte chica.

My only issues with these is that they are a bit of struggle to remove. And yes, like most mattes—you’ll see chipping after a day or so. But I love ‘em so much that I don’t even care.

You can snag these darlings here. Only $25 for the entire set. Not bad at ‘tal!

Whatcha think?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,
