Okay now, don’t go side eye-ing my choice of words. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics named that Lip Tar Hoochie. And a rap group from back in the 90’s came up with the song. But I bet you don’t remember what movie made this song even more popular?
My my my…what more needs to be said about these kids? Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics has wooed me in the nail polish and loose eye shadow department, but I would be a tad bit remiss if I didn’t declare my love for the Lip Tars. I’ll do a formal swatches soon but to tease you a bit, I did some mixing and made my own shade.
A little bit of this and a little bit of that…
And look what I made.
Okay soooo even though this has unofficially been Green Week, don’t you think for one second that I won’t be reviewing and featuring more eco-friendly and green conscious products. It is becoming a way of life for me and I simply HAVE to share everything that I’m learning with you cool cats.
Now don’t hate me for saying it but if you haven’t heard of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, you’ve been living under a beauty rock. I’ve featured them on Clumps of Mascara before. Remember those polishes I snagged at The Makeup Show NYC? Yeah giiiirl…. I’ve been giving their pigments a whirl and oh oh oh oh oh ohmigosh. I actually hate that Usher song but it was so appropriate right now.
They are vibrant and just stunning. No ashy-ness here, brown girls! I started off with Ginger as my base colors.
And since I was feeling a little extra, popped Nori in my outer-V.
When I think of orange and green, I think of the FAMU Rattlers, one of the finest HBCUs (historically black college and university) in the country. Nope, I didn’t go there but I grew up in Tallahassee, Florida where the Rattlers and FSU Seminoles (boooo!) run the entire city.
I lined up eyes with Physician Formula’s gel creamLiners. LOVE those. They are paraben-free and will replace my MAC fluidlines. Bye bye MAC. And then there is Lorac’s 3D lip gloss in. Remember that time I featured on of the shades here? I really love these green glosses. Free of synthetic ingredients and great staying power? Yes ma’am!
I donned my cheeks with Tarte’s Hotel Heiress.
Yep, I ended up purchasing it and LOVE it. That will definitely be replacing MAC’s Sweet As Cocoa. Sorry MAC. Don’t take it personal, kid. Yay for orange and green lids!
And it still looked good after a sweaty work-out.
Super impressed! You can grab the loose colour concentrates for $10 for a 2.5g jar. And I will definitely be reviewing the Physician Formula’s gel creamLiners. Nail polish of the week is Zoya’s Kelly.
Who remembers Captain Planet? *nostalgic sigh* Those were the days.
Off I go for a super long weekend. I’ll be volunteering and hanging out at the Tom Joyner Family Reunion at the Gaylord Palms. And I may hit the beach. Enjoy your Labor Day, U.S. of A kids.
Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.
Ohmigoodness…I can NOT believe I am just now reviewing OCC’s nail polishes. I’ve been eye-ing them for over a year now. I blame Scrangie. Do y’all follow her blog? My goodness…good ole’ Scrange will have you foaming at the mouth over her beautiful nail polish swatches.
And so when I went to The Makeup Show NYC this year, I made it my business to run over to OCC and get get myself acquainted with a few of the polishes.
I have a thing for chartreuse polishes. They are just so striking to me. Wasabi is was a wee bit watery for me…hence the sinking of it in my cuticles. But it’s awesome nonetheless! I don’t have OPI’s Who The Shrek Are You, but I think that they may be dupes.
While Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is most known for their lip tars, I think their polishes deserve a bit of a look too. I found them to be a wee bit watery so they require small strokes at a time. I used 3 coats for each look and they wear pretty well too. You can snag them for $8 a bottle over at OCCMakeup.com. And yep…they are big 3 free!
Your fellow nail polish junkie,
I’ve had these things for a minute. I have been to three of The Powder Group’s events and OCC had a booth at every one. I keep forgetting!
I sent out a tweet about OCC and got a slew of responses; many in which were telling me to try the lip tar. And like a good blogger….I listen to the peoples!
Some quick tidbits about OCC:
-The line was born in November 2004.
-All of their products are 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free, and are also free of parabens and other harsh preservatives.
-Their products are for professional make-up artists and make-up enthusiasts alike.
And if you’ve gotten this far and you’re wondering what makes them unique, check this out:
Wowsers! The loose colour concentrates ($10) are amazing. From the glitters to the mattes I find that they are all highly pigmented and ready for action in any way you choose to use them. Be it on the eyes, nails or on the body, giiiirl…you can best believe that you are getting a colorful piece of heaven.
I snagged Burning-described as a bright coral with subtle violet shimmer.
I saved the best for last. The Lip Tars ($12.50).
I think that everyone needs one of these. They are so much fun! And highly pigmented beyond belief. They are as pigmented as lipsticks but go on like lip glosses. You can try wearing these babies solo but they may scare you at first. Mix them with other glosses and you can create an array of beautiful lippy colors.
I know y’all are like, “B!! Where are the photos of the products on you?”
Relax my little blueberry shortcakes. I will definitely be incorporating these babies in upcoming FOTDs.
What do you think? A fan of OCC? Never heard of them? Wanna try?
Because even your personality should be pigmented,
