Amor de Lacquer: OPI Skyfall collection for Holiday 2012, part I

Soooo, OPI recently launched a James Bond holiday collection. Bond 007 officially turned 50 this year and so what better way to celebrate than with a collection? I’m pretty lame for not knowing much about the flicks but when I told Esposo about this collection, he got all interested. Mind you, my husband has NEVER been interested about any of my beauty stuffs so that says a lot. Anywho, the most recent Bond movie, Skyfall, came out on November 9th and so this collection has come at the perfect time. It’s a huge collection of 12 polishes so I’m breaking ‘em up in 2 posts.

OPI
Ready?

OPI1

Skyfall is described as a magnificent maroon and I can dig it. I love dusty burgundy shades like these. It’s not terribly unique but it is ideal for fall and makes a great base for topping off with glitter.

OPI2

Casino Royale is a pretty plum and ZOMG, I am in love with this baby. I’m struggling to think of any dupes for this one so um, yeah…if you don’t get any other shades in this collection, this is definitely one that I’d consider.

OPI3

OPI4

You Only Live Twice is a rich high-shimmer magenta that we’ve seen before. It’s perfect and pretty and has enough shimmer to appeal to the glitter junkies of the world.

OPI5

Die Another Day is a hot and lively red. OPI is good at always including reds in their collection. This one is just okay to me. I do like how there is a bit of orange to it though.

OPI6

Tomorrow Never Dies is an intense purple but really it’s much more than that. And my camera can hardly capture its epic-ness. It shifts from a blueberry blue to a bright purple and back with the blink of an eye. It’s stunning.

OPI7

The Spy Who Loved Me is another red that looks a lot like You Only Live Twice. The main difference between the two? TSWLM has more red in it than orange.

Must Have
-Skyfall: Especially if you need a really nice maroon in your stash.
-Casino Royale: Because just look at the bottle. ‘Nuff said, right?
-Tomorrow Never Dies: If you’re a nail polish lover, it’s unlikely that you have one THIS captivating.

Not bad for the first 6, uh? Stay tuned for the other 6. This collection is currently available at Ulta and JC Penny Salons.

OPI Germany nail polish collection (part 2)

Woo hoo! The first half of OPI’s Germany collection featured some of the lighter shades. This go ’round I’m showing off the darker shades; the purples, vampies, and a strikingly beautiful red. Let’s get it started!

Piccies1

Aren’t these fierce?

DSC_0755

Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! is a cute name but man, it’s TOO long. I know OPI prides themselves on creative names but lately some of the names in their collections are like mini-paragraphs. Ha! Okay, now that I’ve complained about the name long enough. This shade is described as a bodacious black olive and it is murky and wonderful. This was the first shade I rocked when I first spotted this collection.

DSC_0782

Unfor-greta-bly Blue is described as a super shiny blue and that’s about as accurate as I can get. Okay, yes, there are several super bright blues with shimmer like this but I can’t find any in my collection. This baby is gorgeous.

DSC_0764

Every Month is Oktoberfest is a shimmery plum and it is GORGEOUS! I know, I know…it looks like a typical vampy burgundy with shimmer but it’s fantastic. It goes from deep purple with laces of red and back. Love love love.

DSC_0792

Danke-Shiny Red is a ravishing ruby. It’s very rare that you’ll come across an OPI collection that doesn’t include a red. It has become the expectation. But at least this red is shimmery perfection.

DSC_0804

German-icure by OPI is another name that annoys me but other than that it’s a burgundy shimmer that almost looks like Every Month is Oktoberfest. The biggest difference is that GBO has more red in it. It’s pretty but if I had to choose between the two, I’d definitely go with Every Month is Oktoberfest.

DSC_0814

Suzi & the 7 Dusseldorfs is an amazing bright purple. I mean, this baby is HOT. Yep, there is probably a dupe somewhere but if you can’t find it, you should definitely tote this baby home.

Must Haves:
-Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! As much as the name annoys me it’s a really pretty murky shade.
-Every Month is Oktoberfest. I am so in love with this vampy polish
-Suzi & the 7 Dusseldorfs. For purple lovers everywhere!

This collection has been out for quite some time so I’m pretty sure you can snag it at Ulta, JC Penny salons and anywhere OPI products are sold. I actually had a dream about visiting Germany the other night (so random) so I don’t know…maybe I’ll be heading there sooner rather than later.

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Designer Series Luxurious & Indulgence

Every so often, OPI likes to grace us nail polish lovers with a polish or two from their Diamond Dust-Infused Designer Series. These polishes aren’t just regular ole’ nail polishes. They are usually holographic beauties whose appearance alone have you captivated. Now and days, I spy more glitter than holographic wonderness in these polishes. Which kinda sucks (I mean, who doesn’t love holographic polishes?) but the sheer beauty of these high shine shades makes up for it a bit. Check out the newest kids on the playground…

Luxurious is described as a captivating coral-red with a golden glisten.

It looks a lot like China Glaze’s Riveting but this kid is 10x more vibrant. The gold glitter is so dense and tightly packed that my nails would shine in the dark when I wore this polish. It’s just a beaut. Look at that…

On fire. Literally.

Then there’s Indulgence which is described as a a radiant red-violet with a shimmering, golden finish. At first glance, I wasn’t insanely impressed with this polish but on the nails, it comes alive. It isn’t as striking as Luxurious but it is still absolutely gorgeous.

Not too shabby, uh?

I’m not gonna lie – I really do wish OPI would pick back up with including holographic shades in their Designer Series. While these polishes are beautiful, it’s hard to justify their $12.50 price tag. Many of us nail polish lovers don’t have a problem with shelling out our pretty pennies for holographic polishes but super glittery polish…meh?

If you’ve got to add one to your collection, it should definitely be Luxurious. It’s a stunner.

You can get both of these at professional salons, including Dillard’s, JCPenney and ULTA, for $12.50 a pop.

Whatcha think? Are you loving these two?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Germany collection (part I)

Piccies1

Who wants to go to Germany? I dooooo! I love when OPI launches collections inspired by countries. One of my college girlfriends just moved to Germany (hey Kam!) and it’s taking everything in me  to not invite myself over. I’m pretty sure that when the baby in my belly is a good 6 months or so, I’ll be bookin’ a flight. Seriously.

My favorite thing about these kind of OPI collections? The names of the polishes! There are 12 kids in this collection but here’s round 1….

DSC_3709

Don’t Talk Bach to Me is described as a sassy lime yellow but I see it more as a silvery pistachio. If you’ve always liked lime polishes but didn’t like how bright they were, this is a nice polish to try.

DSC_3717

Schnapps Out Of It is a mauve but I see it as a dusty pumpkin. At first glance it looked like a Grandma color but once I got it on, it wasn’t so bad. I’m not sure if I’d wear it solo but I would so throw some glitter on Schnapps and keep on truckin’.

DSC_3725

My Very First Knockwurst is rosy-nude that I’d file under “Work Appropriate Nail Polishes”. Application was tough with this one and it took a good 3 coats for me to get it even.

DSC_3732

Berlin Done That looks like gray but really it has more of a dirty mop water hue to it. It’s a slightly more attractive color than OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques. I’m not a fan of taupe shades like this. I wish I was but they always look so weird on my complexion.

DSC_3739

Deutsch You Want Me Baby? is a shimmery red orange and it’s a gorgeous addition to this collection. It reminds me of a less shimmery version of OPI’s DS Luxurious and isn’t as orange as China Glaze’s Riveting. It’s so pretty. Love this one!

DSC_3749

Don’t Pretzel My Button is a honey beige that I ended up liking more than I thought I would. I very rarely wear beige polishes but every now and then I like sporting a no frills kind of polish. DPMB is the perfect fix for that.

Must Haves:
-Deutsch You Want Me Baby?: A total must have if you’re a fan of the orangey red polishes of the world.
-Don’t Pretzel My Button: Because every nail polish lover needs a basic beige in his or her stash.

This first half of the OPI Germany collection didn’t impress me too much. I didn’t think any of the shades were THAT groundbreaking. The good news? The second half of the collection is full of beautiful vampy polishes…the kind of vampies that I LOVE wearing during the Fall. Stay tuned for Part II. In the meantime, if you’re swooning after any of these, I’ve spotted them at Ulta stores for $8.50 a bottle.

See any you like? Where my Germany girls at?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Minnie Mouse collection

This collection excited me to no end. I am an ENORMOUS Disney fan. Not so much of the color pink but the fact that my girl Minnie has her own collection speaks highly for me. The Mouse and I go way back.

Yeah, literally. I was 3 or 4 years old in that picture and I am still fanatic about Disney. I actually saw Minnie Mouse a few weekends ago.

Cute, ain’t she? I forgot to congratulate her on her new line. In fact, they wouldn’t even let me get in the streets and dance around with her. Something about that only being allowed for kids. Pfft. I AM a kid, thank you very much.

If You Moust You Moust is a soft pink cream. It’s nothing terribly unique about it. And the name is kinda weird to me. I see where they’re going with the whole “Moust” thing but still…it’s weird. Ha!

Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It is a confetti light pink that is complete with teeny tiny hearts. It’s absolutely adorabo. Layering those hearts can be quite the feat but once you’ve mastered it, you’ve got a cutesy manicure. The added hot pink shimmer adds some nice sparkle to the mix too. I’ll definitely be pulling this out around Valentine’s Day.

I’m All Ears is a pretty magenta shimmer.

The Color of Minnie is an interesting shade of red. One that I can actually appreciate it. It’s a micro shimmer that applies beautifully and has a heavy dose of pink in it.

Must Haves
-Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It. If you don’t have any heart-sy polishes, this one is just so cute.

Formula-wise these polishes were great. I applied 2 coats for each polish. Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It can be a bit on the thick side. The hearts also tend to sink to the bottom of the bottle. Turning it upside down before use should help the hearts spread evenly. I would have loved to see MORE polishes in this collection. Minnie deserves it, don’t you think?

How are you feelin’ about this collection?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI The Amazing Spider-man collection

In celebration of Sony Picture’s The Amazing Spider-man, OPI is gracing us with a Spiderman collection. The film hits theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012. I’m pretty sure Esposo will be dragging me along to see it. Not that I’m complaining. I really enjoy comic-book inspired action films even though I’ve never read the actual comic books. This collection ain’t what I pictured in my head when I first heard about a Spider-man collection. Which, I suppose, is a good and bad thing.

Number One Nemesis is a greenish olive-y looking grey. It’s between a foil and glass fleck and does quite the shimmer action when it hits the light.

Call Me Gwen-Ever is a creamy and dusty orange. It’s attractive but I’ve seen plenty of oranges like this. And it’s such an interesting shade to have a Spider-man nail polish collection. Or is it just me?

Into The Night is a midnight blue. Very Spider-man-ish. It’s a frost so application can be tricky but a good 2 even coats should set it straight.

Just Spotted The Lizard is a probably one of the few duochrome polishes that I own. We’re seeing dupes of this shade all over and while I don’t own any others, I’m hearing that OPI’s version is the best. Depending on where you look, it can look olive green and then gold. It changes at every angle. It’s a pretty cool polish but I’m not sure I’m in love with how it looks on me.

Your Web Or Mine? is a frosty Grandma pink. This is my least favorite of the bunch. It’s very safe for a Spider-man collection. Meh. No me gusta.

My Boyfriend Scales Walls is white but it has a bit of a grey hue to it. I love it! Then again, I absolutely love white polishes. Even if they are a pain to apply. Don’t mind my cuticles here. Too much swatching ‘n removing can be drying yo.

Shatter the Scales is a dark green-y metallic crackle. It’s hard for me to apply crackles with my nail beds being extra wide and long but hereeee we go…

Shatter the Scales over My Boyfriend Scales Walls

Shatter the Scales over Call Me Gwen-ever

Very Miami Hurricanes, uh?

Must Haves
-Call Me Gwen-ever. It’s an awesome orange that applies beautifully. If you don’t have anything like this in your collection, you should scoop this one up.
-Just Spotted the Lizard. I reckon this will be the most popular shade of the bunch.
-My Boyfriend Scales Walls. Such an interesting grey-ish white.

Formula-wise these polishes were excellent. The crackle was a bit on the thick side but that’s nothing out of the ordinary. Many crackles are. This doesn’t feel like a Spider-man collection. The polish names and shades are pretty random and don’t evoke the kind of excitement the way a Spider-man nail polish collection should. And it’s kinda crazy that there isn’t a red polish up in here. I’ve got a thousand red polishes like everyone else but a metallic red with some shimmer would totally fit in a Spider-man collection.

Whatcha think about this collection? Any Spider-man fans in the house?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI New York City Ballet SoftShades

Well, well, welllll…isn’t this refreshing? While corals, neons and glitters are dominating the nail scene this spring, OPI is hookin’ us with with softer shades. I’m not hatin’ on this collection, y’all. I love loud colors like most but I also really enjoy wearing soft shades every now and then. Especially when they give me an opaque finish with no more than 3 coats. Such was the case with these. Weeee!!

According to OPI, this collection was ‘inspired by the New York City Ballet (NYCB), one of the world’s premiere dance companies’. Very cute. Oh! And this is also the debut of my newly shaped nails. Some of my older nail polish posts will sport the square look but the newer posts will be showing the oval look. This is such a big deal for me since I haven’t changed my nail shape since uh….ever. 8)

Care To Danse? is a creamy lilac. In fact, it’s so faint that it almost looks pink. It definitely looks more “lilac” in the bottle.

Barre My Soul is a sheer beige and it gives the the perfect “naked” look for nails. This is the kind of nail polish I’d wear on a job interview.

You Callin’ Me A Lyre? is an ascending pink that would be perfect for an American manicure. Not that I’d wear one because American (and French) manicures are like soooooo 1990’s. Agree or disagree?

My Pointe Exactly is a gorgeous sheer gray that looks blue in the bottle and on my nails. It’s a strange shade for a sheer but somehow it works.

Don’t Touch My Tutu! is the one shade that I’d wear the most often. I just love how creamy this white is. It’s stunning and classy and everything I’d want from a sheer white cream.

Pirouette My Whistle is a silver sparkle that looks okay with 3 coats but is probably better layered over a polish. My nails are stained so it doesn’t look the best solo.

Pirouette My Whistle over Care to Danse?

Must Have’s:
-You Callin’ Me A Lyre?: I could wear this one everyday.
-My Pointe Exactly: There is something so pleasantly unusual about this one….
-Don’t Touch My Tutu: Ooooh, how wonderful is this white creme?

I was a little nervous when I saw the promo for this collection. While I like sheer polishes, a lot of ‘em are a pain to deal with because it’s hard to get them to apply to an opaque finish. Soooo not the case with these kids. I applied 3 coats for each polish and they were all completely opaque. Fan-freaking-tastic. I love love looooove these.

Are you a fan of sheer polishes or not so much?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Holland collection (part 2)

I’m back with part II of OPI’s Holland collection. Woo hooo! If you missed part I, check it out here.

I Have A Herring Problem is a shimmery green blue that rocks my world. This may be one of my favorites. It’s such a gorgeous dusty blue.

Did You ‘Ear About Van Gogh is sandy bisque and if you didn’t laugh at that name, dude…check your pulse. While the name is entertaining, the polish is just okay. I don’t really wear shades like this too often. I do love how opaque it is with only 2 coats.

Gouda Gouda Two Shoes is a robust rose that is totally a Grandma nail polish color. And there’s no way to combat that either. Throw some glitter on top and it would still look like a Grandma shade. Which isn’t a bad thing. Grandmas need polish too yo.

Dutch’Ya Just Love OPI  is a plum that was soooo hard to capture. Which is tragic because it is such a beautiful shade of purple. In natural lighting, my camera captured it is a vampy purple with subtle pink shimmer.

…which is pretty but definitely not a accurate shot. Artificial light has it looking more like how it looks in real life.

Yes, that’s better. It’s gorgeous and if you love purple nail polish, you’ll need this one.

I Don’t Give A Rotterdam is a steal blue shimmer that almost looks like I Have A Herring Problem. IDGAR is not nearly as opaque as I Have A Herring Problem but they are certainly too similar in finishes to be in the same collection, ya know? It’s a beaut nonetheless.

A Roll in the Hague  is a bright orange polish and it is my faaaavorite of them all. I was so excited to take a picture of this that I totally didn’t see the smudges on my fingers. Sorry! You need this polish. It is the ultimate summer shade.

Must Haves:
– I Have A Herring Problem
-Dutch’Ya Just Love OPI?
-A Roll in the Hague

Overall, I dug this collection. There weren’t any particularly striking colors but there were definitely some jewels. I used 2 coats for each polish and formula-wise, most were good. Some were a bit on the watery side but nothing that couldn’t be handled with small and liberal strokes.

Whatcha think? Diggin’ the Holland collection? The family altogether…
