The amazing Wet n Wild Coloricon I Heart Matte Eyeshadow palette

Wanna hear a sad/embarrassing story? Back when I was first getting into makeup (you know…like a few years ago) I  walked into a MAC store for the first time and was totally mesmerized by their eyeshadow looks. No surprise there, right? Every artist’s eyes were flawlessly painted – almost airbrush like. Someone comes up to me and asks if they can help me and do you know what I say?

“I’d love to buy some of those airbrush eyeshadows.”

The look I received in return was something along the lines of  eek and rolleyes The “airbrush eyeshadows” I was referring to were matte eyeshadows. Duh. I didn’t even know. That said – every time I think of matte eyeshadows, I think of that totally awkward moment. Anywhoovers, how beautiful is this matte palette?

I know, right? I know! This baby isn’t new. Wet ‘n Wild released this Fall of 2011 and I am just now getting my hands on it. Good drugstore matte eyeshadows are so hard to find. The ones I’ve found have been chalky or lack the pigment good matte shadows have. But this palette? It’s alllllll that.

Sorry. I had to do it. The show comes on Teen Nick late at night and it has me all nostalgic. Gotta love growin’ up in the 90’s. Yes. Another diversion. I can’t stay focused to save my life. Bring on the swatches!

Why my camera sucks at focusing on more than one swatch at a time is beyond me. But how intense are those swatches? Retailing at $4.99, this I Love Mattes palette has everything good matte eyeshadows should have.

-Intensity
-Longevity
-Silky texture
-Build-ability (I made that work up)

These shadows feel like buttah. They apply effortlessly but of course you’ll need a nice sturdy primer to prevent them from creasing throughout the day. In fact, when I wear matte eyeshadows, I double up on bases. I use Urban Decay Primer Potion and and NYX’s Milk jumbo pencil. Between those two, the matte shadows last forevs.

I love the color selection in this palette too. You’ve got the nice neutral shades and then you’ve got some shades that will add some nice pop. I loves it. I loves it a lot. So much so that I’ve been wearing the neutral mattes allllllll week.

I don’t know what it is with me and this “allllll” thing. I’m in such a silly mood. But what else is new, uh? I did spot this palette in my neighborhood Walgreens a few days ago so while it’s a few months old, you may still be able to get your hands on it.

Do matte eyeshadows not rock or what?

Nordstrom Rack’s Beauty Buys. Must Haul All.

O.M.G….if you knew this and didn’t tell me, I’m taking away one of our friendship stars. Did y’all know that Nordstrom Rack had beauty products? How did I NOT know this? I mean, yeah….I’ve been to Nordstrom Rack several times and have been mesmerized by their affordable prices for shoes. So yeah. Maybe that’s why I didn’t notice the beauty section. But still. I would have a saved a penny or two if it meant racking up (hehe, get it?) on some beauty stuffs. Like THIS kind of beauty stuff…

One can only expect the best from Nordie’s baby sister. I love love LOVE Stila and was excited to know that they have a ton of Stila options. Just how cute-sy are these little books?

Each one retails for, wait for it….$10. Ten bucks. Diez dólares. That’s it, yo! Each palette comes with 4 shadows and one of Stila’s convertible colors. These convertible colors can double as lippies and creamy blushes. It’s up to you. I love how the the eyeshadow selection for each palette can make a complete look. Ya know: there’s a shadow that can work for a lid color, crease color and browbone. Brands are becoming a little more conscious about eyeshadow placement when it comes to their palettes and I couldn’t be happier.

Majestic on Michigan Avenue palette

This palette is my favorite out of the bunch. It has the most wearable shades that are suitable for a brown gal like myself.

Ravishing on Rodeo Drive palette

Perfect for my gals with cooler complexions, I am in love with the blue/teal in this palette. Look at it. It just POPS, uh? Quick story about Rodeo Drive. This tells you how much I DON’T know about pop culture: When I first moved to L.A. (back in 2007), my cousin took me down Rodeo Drive and was telling me about how she’s run into so many many celebrities just by walking the strip. My response: “So is Rodeo Drive popular or something?” I know. I know.

Moving on…

Fashionable on 5th Avenue palette

This is the one palette that I think can work beautifully on everyone. My swatches may not be so convincing (still trying to work out this new lens….be patient with me!) but I love the variation and how this palette can easily be used for day and night looks.

These are the kind of books we should have had in school.

I’m just sayin’….

Have you ever been around the beauty selection in Nordstrom Rack? Find any deals?

Palette Lovin': e.l.f.’s 24K eyeshadow palette collections. How fancy!

Okay, promise you won’t hate me too much for this one, okay? There are a handful of posts that I meant to draft and publish before the holiday season but totally forgot to do so. Because of that, this particular palette is no longer available. And normally I wouldn’t even feature it BUT the good news is, there are several other palettes like this one.

So all isn’t lost. Instead of focusing on the aspects of this palette, I’m going to rap on the quality of the shadows and if they’d be a good investment for you or not. Sound good?

For starters, E.L.F.’s 24K line is so special that it has its own link on E.L.F.’s main page. There are a dozen or so 24K products. The packaging is in a plastic-y gold setting hence why they call the collection 24K. It’s pretty but isn’t the most durable material as the casing feels hollow and scuffs easily. The 100-piece eyeshadow palette goes for $24 and the 15-piece eyeshadow collection is priced at $15. Obviously, I think the 100-piece set is a better value but if you’re the type that loves taking eyeshadow palettes around with you, then the 15-piece set may be more up your alley. There is also a 32-piece collection but its packaging is a lot like the 100-piece in that it won’t be the best for traveling or toting around. It retails at $14.

In addition to eyeshadows, the holiday clutch that I had also had lipglosses, face powders and an eyeshadow powder.

The other palettes stick to just eyeshadows. Mine has 32 eyeshadows but the shades aren’t identical to the 32 eyeshadow palette. But…swatches are swatches. Here we go!

Light shades…

Blues/greens…

Blacks/Silvers…

While some of the shades are chunky, most do a great job at going on pigmented with the initial swatch. I didn’t use any bases for these swatches but having done looks with them, I can say that they do well when layered on top of your favorite base.

That said, if you’re looking for some decent shadow palettes, at a low price point, I think you’ll like the palettes from E.L.F.’s 24K collection. While they are some of the cheapest products on the market, I don’t have a problem with E.L.F. I think their shadows are up to par and great for those both new to makeup and makeup connoisseurs.

You can see some of the other 24K goodies here. I think I’ll have to grab those glosses. They are just darliiiiing!

Palette Lovin': Black Opal Hana’s Pot of Gold

Is it just me or do you think of leprechauns when you think of a pot of gold too? Leprechauns freak me out, y’all. Seriously. Somehow, I’ve managed to not get freaked out over this darling little palette of wondrous eyeshadow. This is an online exclusive so if you find yourself heavily lusting over it, you may need to go ahead and get your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone ready.

Pretty, uh?

Palettes that are trios are always my favorite because I feel that’s just the right amount of colors you’ll need to crank out a decent look. Sometimes those palettes with 10+ shades leave you all confused with deciding what goes where, but this palette is easy.

And don’t you adore how they’ve embellished with shadows with the letter B?

I’m so honored that Black Opal thought so much of me that they put my initial on the shadows. Oh wait. The B stands for Black Opal. Oh yeah.

I knew that.

Each shadow is silky and pops nicely on my skin.

But you know me. If I plan on wearing eyeshadow, I HAVE to wear an eyeshadow base. The thing about these is — you don’t have to wear a colored base. If you’re like me and love Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance, a dab of one of those on each lid is really all you need. The shadow has produced a nice intense look while not being too over the top.

Which I did a bit sloppily but you get the idea. Another darling attribute about this palette? It’s so slim and portable. It’s smaller than my phone…

…which means if I do need to touch up for Happy Hour (lol – like I’m a drinker…), it won’t take up too much space in my purse. Win, win, win. A pretty hot deal for only $7.95. Grab it with the quickness on Black Opal’s website.

And in food news, last week Esposo made the most delectable batch of Thai coconut curry soup.

It was so good, y’all. Sooooo good. This was his first time making it and he blew it out of the park. Normally when I go to Thai restaurants, I order Tom Kha Gai with tofu and his version was much better. I found the recipe on Pinterest – where I find most of our recipe ideas. That’s how it works in our house. I find the recipes and Esposo cooks. I mean yeahhhh, I can cook but Esposo is like a culinary wiz in the kitchen yo.

Meanwhile in Tile Land, I can scrub the MESS out of  bathtub. Yeah boi!

Make Up For Ever’s Wild & Chic palette – Rawrrrr!

Ooooh Make Up For Ever lovers…where are youuuu? I’ve been in love with Make Up For Ever for many years now. They do everything perfectly. I’m even in love with their foundation and that says a lot considering I don’t like many foundations. This season, Make Up For Ever’s Wild & Chic palette is stealing hearts and pulling out wallets. One of the babes from that collection happens to be the uber adorable Wild & Chic Eye Shadow Palette.

Exclusive to Sephora’s inside JCPenney’s, the palette gives you 6 gorgeous shades and a mini AquaEyes pencil for $39. Considering one MUFE shadow goes for $19. Sure the shadows are a lot smaller than a full size shadow but I think it’s a great value for the MUFE lover. Plus, I think the color selection is bangin’.

(L-R)
#84 – Bronze
#123 – Khaki
#152 – Pearly Light Pink
#17 – Brown Black
#122 – Metallic Copper
#126 – Beige
Aqua Eyes #0L – Matte Black

I can count a good 5-6 color combinations I can do with those. Like all Make Up For Ever shadows, these look phenomenal. Of course you’ll need a base but they look amazing when swatched solo.

From day looks to night looks, I think you’ll be able to do A LOT with this palette. And don’t even get me started on how cute the packaging is.

Oh! And the AquaEyes liner is so teeny tiny.

I love it. Perfect for grabbin’ and travelin’. Well done Make Up For Ever. Well done.

Whatcha think about this palette? Aren’t the colors goooorgeous?

POLL: Will you get the Urban Decay’s Naked 2 palette?

If anyone knows how to work beauty junkies into a massive  frenzy, it’s Urban Decay. Their legendary Naked palette was notorious for being out of stock both online and in stores. While it found its place in permanent makeup land, beauty lovers now have the Naked palette 2 to obsess over.

Considering I’ve got a mess load of similar shades, I decided not to get the original Naked palette. Vex in the City’s swatches, however, have me thinking about putting the Naked  2 on my birthday list. You know…in case Esposo asks. Then again, I’ve been a beauty lover for a good  5 years or so and I find it hard to get excited over repeat products and Naked 2 looks a lot like the original Naked.

Aside from the packaging, they could pass for twins. Not to mention – while I don’t have neutral shadows like this in ONE palette, I’m sure if I search my shadow collection enough, I could find dupes of these. Boy, I tell ya….being a beauty blogger brings about a level of discernment. No longer can I just buy products because of the hype. I be breakin’ it down yo.

What about you?

Laura Mercier Limited Edition Luxe Eye Portfolio

Who wants to see another beautiful eyeshadow palette? The last time I played around with Laura Mercier was when I dabbled around in the foundation and I was in love. I’ve heard great things about the eyeshadows and haven’t had a chance to test drive them until now.

How stunning is the Limited Edition Luxe Eye Portfolio?

Okay, so as pretty as it is, it comes with a price. Literally. This baby goes for  whopping $98. While some of y’all may be gasping in horror, some guys and gals out there have no problems spending close to $100 on an eyeshadow palette. Just because you may not spend as much on a beauty product, doesn’t mean someone else won’t, ya know? The good news is, if you do spend your pennies on this palette, you won’t be disappointed.

What LauraMercier.com has to say about the palette:

Perfect for home or travel, this beautifully packaged faux snakeskin organizer includes a collection of twelve new, exclusive and top selling Eye Colour shades, plus three mini professional Brushes that allow you to mix and match shades to customize your look.

The faux snakeskin portfolio feels nice and extra luxe. No cheap material here yo! And I love how totable and small the palette is for throwing in a purse, bag or suitcase.

Y’all know how I feel about traveling with extra bulk so this palette is the perfect size for me. Aaaaand, it’s small enough to sit snuggly where ever you store your makeup at home. To the left of the eyeshadows sit 3 travel size makeup brushes.

It took me a second to figure out what their functions were until uh…I flipped ‘em over.

Each brush is stiff but I didn’t find any of them particularly useful for applying eyeshadow. The crease brush is great for applying eyeshadow on the Crease and the Ponytail brush seems to be a longer version of the Crease brush. So yeah…I can pass on the brushes. The shadows totally make up for the brushes’ disappointing marks.

The color selection and textures in this palette is superb. You’ve got good selections for highlighting the browbone, good neutral shades and shades that can create a bangin’ smokey eye. As far of textures, you’ve got mattes, shimmers and frosts. And do you see that matte black? Yes! I always jump for joy when I see matte black eyeshadows in palettes. Laura Mercier must have had beauty bloggers in mind because the shadow names are listed on the palette. I love that!

  • Rich Senna : A fantastic muted brown with subtle shimmer that will be great for work looks.
  • Morning Dew: A matte white that is great for sweeping under the browbone.
  • Black Coffee: Ahhh, the wonders you can do with a matte black. This one is silky and lovely.
  • Rosewood: Another great shimmer with a rosy touch.
  • Pink Crystal: This is the only shade that will require some packing on.
  • Sable: A gray-ish purple that isn’t as pigmented but nice.

  • Royal Gold: A muted gold great for applying right on the lid.
  • African Violent: A purple and gold wonderland of a shadow. This baby has lots of personality.
  • Mica: A pleasant glitter bomb of a silver.
  • Golden Cream: Another great shimmer to apply under the browbone.
  • Fig: A matte violet that that takes a bit of applying to really pop
  • Sparkling Night: A beauty navy blue.
These shadows really surprised me. Even the ones that were just so so at initial swatch really  came to life with a bit of packing on. I didn’t experience any fall out from these shadows either.
Perfection, I say. Perfection.
Who is this palette for?
  • Those who want an all-in-one palette.
  • Those who don’t mind spending close to $100 on a palette.
  • Super duper Laura Mercier fans.
So yes, the price point is up there but with MAC eyeshadows going for $10.50 a pan, getting these 12 shadows for under $100 isn’t a bad idea. If you just HAVE to get this palette better get it quickly. Remember, it’s limited edition! Snag it from LauraMercier.

Palette Lovin': LORAC Little Black Palette

Ah yesss ,darlings. Allow me to introduce another beautiful eyeshadow palette.

LORAC’s Little Black Palette is certainly a top contender for one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes for the year.

It’s so sexyyyyyy. Now y’all already know how much I looooove LORAC. Their mascaras rock my world and I absolutely adore their lipglosses. I dig their eyeshadows too. These paraben-free baked eyeshadows are also without sulfates, pthalates and synthetic fragrances and dyes. Winning!

What Sephora has to say about the palette:

“Everyone needs a Little Black Palette! Create long-lasting, hot looks for days, evenings, and after-hours in the city with this must-have palette. Shine in rich golds and bronzes with 4 color-coordinated, mineral-infused, silky-smooth, shimmering Baked Eye Shadows and a mini Behind The Scenes Eye Shadow Primer, all packed in a must-have sleek black case. Buy a little perfection with LORAC’s Little Black Palette—it’s the must-have accessory for every season!”

When it comes to eyeshadow palettes, I’m looking for convenience and quality. This baby comes with an eyeshadow primer and 4 GREAT eyeshadows and so its $33 price point is just right. Like all of LORAC’s eyeshadows, these are shimmery and feel silky smooth on the skin.

While I love the shimmer that they provide, I do kinda wish that there was a matte shadow thrown in the mix.

Definitely not a deal breaker, but what can I say? I’m a gal that loves matte shadows on her browbone. And then there’s the primer…

Cute lil’ kid, isn’t it? I am a picky eyeshadow primer user and while this one is a little too emollient to me, it actually gets the job done.

And even if I was completely against it, I wouldn’t care because the palette itself is just so fantastic. This is the perfect eyeshadow palette for gals who don’t need many options. The foil-y finishes of silver, gold, copper and brown can make for decent daytime and nighttime looks. I’m a no-fuss beauty traveler. I never really WANT to apply a bunch of makeup so this palette is perfect for me. Aaaaand, it’s only $33. I mean, come on…. That’s not bad for a bunch of paraben-free eyeshadows, uh?

So yeah. Just like every gal needs a little black dress, us makeup lovers need little black palettes too. You’ve done good, LORAC. You’ve done good. You can grab this wondrous palette at Sephora stores and Sephora.com.

Whatcha think about this palette? Yay or nay?
