Mascara Monday: Physicians Formula eye enhancing mascara duo

This mascara review will be a unique one in that we will be looking at 4 mascaras instead of just one. Well, technically it’s 4 mascaras but EIGHT mascara wands. Confused yet? Don’t be. It’s another innovative mascara from one of my favorite drugstore-friendly natural lines. This mascara comes with a lot of claims. So let’s brace ourselves shall we?

100th Mascara Giveaway Week: Physician Formula Shimmer mascara duo!

It’s round 2 of this week’s mascara giveaway. This time I’m giving away a mascara that even I haven’t tried yet. Have y’all seen Physician Formula’s Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing mascara duo’s? That’s a mouthful, I know.

I can’t wait to try it out! One side gives you dramatic dark lashes and the other side coats your lashes with an eye brightening shade. Like, you know…green! As a brown eye-d girl, I’m “supposed” to be rocking the duo with the purple but I’d totally try all four. One lucky lady will get that chance!

Physician Formula’s Gel CreamLiners

Girl, lemme tell you…since I’ve been on this “Green Kick” as some of my friends like to call it, I’ve been all about green-ing up my cosmetics. Now, I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that all of my products are natural, organic and comes from the earth. But I am slowly making changes and being more aware of the products that I do use.

I’m finding that swapping every day products with greener ones is the best way to green-ify. I’ve done it with pencil liners and I am so glad that I can officially retire my MAC Fluidlines.

Physician Formula’s liners are epic.

FOTD Friday: Vegan make-up and Captain Planet

Okay soooo even though this has unofficially been Green Week, don’t you think for one second that I won’t be reviewing and featuring more eco-friendly and green conscious products. It is becoming a way of life for me and I simply HAVE to share everything that I’m learning with you cool cats.

Now don’t hate me for saying it but if you haven’t heard of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, you’ve been living under a beauty rock. I’ve featured them on Clumps of Mascara before. Remember those polishes I snagged at The Makeup Show NYC? Yeah giiiirl…. I’ve been giving their pigments a whirl and oh oh oh oh oh ohmigosh. I actually hate that Usher song but it was so appropriate right now.

Pretty, uh? Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is 100% vegan and PETA-approved. Ah-mazing!
Although I only used 3 of the shadows, I just had to show you swatches of all 5.

They are vibrant and just stunning. No ashy-ness here, brown girls! I started off with Ginger as my base colors.

And since I was feeling a little extra,  popped Nori in my outer-V.

When I think of orange and green, I think of the FAMU Rattlers, one of the finest HBCUs (historically black college and university) in the country. Nope, I didn’t go there but I grew up in Tallahassee, Florida where the Rattlers and FSU Seminoles (boooo!) run the entire city.

I lined up eyes with Physician Formula’s gel creamLiners. LOVE those. They are paraben-free and will replace my MAC fluidlines. Bye bye MAC. And then there is Lorac’s 3D lip gloss in. Remember that time I featured on of the shades here? I really love these green glosses. Free of synthetic ingredients and great staying power? Yes ma’am!

I donned my cheeks with Tarte’s Hotel Heiress.

Yep, I ended up purchasing it and LOVE it. That will definitely be replacing MAC’s Sweet As Cocoa. Sorry MAC. Don’t take it personal, kid. Yay for orange and green lids!

And it still looked good after a sweaty work-out.

Super impressed! You can grab the loose colour concentrates for $10 for a 2.5g jar. And I will definitely be reviewing the Physician Formula’s gel creamLiners. Nail polish of the week is Zoya’s Kelly.

Who remembers Captain Planet? *nostalgic sigh* Those were the days.

Off I go for a super long weekend. I’ll be volunteering and hanging out at the Tom Joyner Family Reunion at the Gaylord Palms. And  I may hit the beach. Enjoy your Labor Day, U.S. of A kids.

Love yooooou,

Physician’s Formula Powder Palette review and giveaway!

Y’all know how much I adore bronzed cheeks..especially in the summer time. For someone who doesn’t wear much on her cheeks, this gorgeous little bronzer works perfectly for me!

You ARE familiar with Physician’s Formula, right? They are one of the few natural/organic drugstore brands in the market. With my acne prone skin acting the way it does, I’ve been taking the paraben-free route lately and my skin does not flare up as much as it normally would. Hollaaa!

You can snag this kid for $13.99 at your favorite drugstore. The mineral glow pearls come in 4 different shades: Translucent Pearl, Beige Pearl, Light Bronze Pearl, Bronze Pearl.

…oh wait, what’s that?

Pshht, y’all know how I feel about beauty rules. I break them. My brown skinned self rocked it. And rocked it well, I might add.

And for quick touch-ups, the palette has a darling little mirror and brush at the bottom.

I can dig it.

I know a lot of you gals have been wanting to take baby steps into the natural skincare route but don’t want to spend a lot of money on it.

Need help starting off your collection? One lucky winner will win the following in our Shimmer Bronze giveaway!

-Pearl Palette
-Bronze Booster Shimmer Bronzer
-Shimmer strip

Mascara Monday: Physicians Formula Organic wear mascara

It’s the beginning of a new week and I hope that you all are off to a GREAT one. I had an amazing Valentine’s Day. I was able to spend most of it with my girls from college. I haven’t seen most of these ladies since I’ve moved back to Florida so it was a great little reunion for all of us. The greater part of Valentine’s Day was spent with someone special so all in all it was a good day!

But is THIS is a good mascara? Hmm….so many products have gone 100% natural and “eco-friendly” and while I am not opposed to products like this, I do rate them the same way I would rate a traditional mascara. That means I expect the same performance based on their claims. Did this one impress me? Or will I be throwing it in the recycling bin?

Physicians Formula Organic
wear mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 (I got it for $10 at CVS)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 2 out of 5

What it claims: “Revolutionary 100% Natural Origin formula contains the purest ingredients and provides 5x Lash Boosting for lash length, volume & definition naturally.” (source)

The truth: The idea is great….I’m all for “going green”–even with cosmetics. However, I couldn’t get past the smell and the formulation just doesn’t dry.

What I loved about it: The packaging is tres cute. I love love love it. I also like how the mascara is 100% all natural. For someone who who is big on eating all-natural and wearing her naturally, I could definitely have some all-natural additions to my make-up collection. I was hoping that this product could be that introduction.

What I didn’t like: It just isn’t comparable to a regular mascara. And the smell is horrific! I mean….awful.

Overall: Let’s rap a little bit about the wand.

It’s not bad. It’s not exceptionally good either. I would REALLY like it it the the bristles were a little longer and the wand were more steady. It is a too flimsy and of course that affects the control you will get when applying it to your lashes.

Let’s do a rundown of what is in this mascara:

-100% free of synthetic solvents
-Organic Orange water
-Orangic Aloe and Cucumber extracts
-100% natural orgin biopolymers
-1oo% natural orgin preservatives
-100% natural orgin rice protein & organic tapioca starch organic beeswax
-100% free of petroleum by products, parabens, GMO and synthetic fragrances

Right off, I’m impressed. Traditional mascaras contain a great deal of synthetic preservatives and solvents. These ingredients put you at risk for eye irritations. So it is definitely comforting using a mascara like this.

But that’s where the comfort ends. Unfortunately, while it gives me a decent amount of volume and length it just doesn’t last. I find that the Floridian humidity makes the mascara literally slide off of my lashes. Traditional mascaras usually leave your lashes relatively hard. This mascara does not do that. Because of that I endured a lot of smearing and found that within a few hours, the mascara was just gone. I also couldn’t get over the smell. It just didn’t go away! It was a very distinct plant-y smell that just didn’t sit well with me.

I really wanted to rate this mascara a little higher but the performance just wasn’t there.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: I think it’s worth a try. Just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it can’t work for someone else. I think my climate has a lot to do with it. Plus it’s all natural so it really is worth a try….even though it smells like potting soil.

Didn’t do a video review this time around.
Should I? Let me know in the comments.

Would you be open to trying a mascara like this? Should all mascaras go “all natural”? What do you think?

Have a wonderful Monday!

Always,
