My Sally Hansen Pamper Party!

Well my loves, I had a fabulous Pamper Party + going away party for my good friend Su and I had it all documented via photos until, guess what? My camera decided to do some crazy stuff and I ended up with only TWO pictures of the almost 20+ that I took. My heart is broken but luckily my girl Nidia let me borrow some of her pictures. So…yeah.

DSC_0933

Nidia, Su and I got gathered at a swanky hotel downtown where I chatted to them about Sally Hansen®’s newest nail polish. Have you heard about it? I’ve purchased several bottles of these already and when I got the opportunity to host a party with some gal pals to share my love of this newest line, well, I couldn’t pass it down. Baby Toddler Clumps came with me and was such a sweet girl coloring while Mama “worked”.

Sally Hansen® Miracle Gel™ promises to give you long-lasting nail color and shine for up to 14 days. The formula makes it so that you don’t even need to use a lamp. This alone is a home run for me because that means I don’t have to spend any extra time or money sitting at a salon every few weeks. There aren’t any tricks to applying this either. It applies  like a traditional nail polish and only has 2 steps.

Step 1: Apply Gel Color
Step 2: Apply Gel Top Coat

That’s it, girlfriend. No UV/LED light needed, no having to wait an hour for  1 coat to dry. None of that. This stuff is practically made for women like me who want lovely nails but don’t want to invest a ton of time in achieving them.

I love how the line has ton of different colors to fit just about everyone’s style and personality. Su loved B Girl, Nidia rocked Mad Woman but really my favorite of the collection is the burgundy goodness that is Wine Stock.

Sally Hansen

I rocked that with some of those Sally Hansen nail strips some months ago and I’m thinking about recreating that look because I LOVED it. Now in terms of longevity, I’m going to keep it real with you gals…these won’t last for 14 days. At around 8 days, I noticed both Mad Woman and Wine Stock chipping on me.

Sally Hansen

My belief is that no gel nail polish (that doesn’t require a light for hardening, that is) can last for 14 days. And this is coming from someone who cleans the house and washes dishes wearing gloves. Still, getting a good week out of nail polish from a drugstore brand is practically unheard of so I think these are stellar.

Also, the polishes don’t dry that quickly. Nidia noted that after applying her top coat, she managed to bump her nails after about an hour of application and smudged the polish. Womp. Still, I am finding these polishes are so so practical for gals who like to go some days (and maybe a week) in between applying nail polish. The shine seriously doesn’t budge, and that my girls, is awesome in itself.

Have you tried these polishes yet? Oh! But wait…Sally Hansen® has an incredible sweepstakes going on right now. My Instagram girls will love this one because all you have to do is snap a look of your current mani and you have the chance of winning the top 10 Sally Hansen® Miracle Gel™ polishes. Weee!

The Marriage Between Revlon’s Gel Envy ColorStay Nail Polish And Polka Dots

walmart_beauty_logo

I didn’t think the nail gel trend could get any larger, but…it keeps growing! Everyone wants gel nails. Just about every popular brand provides gel nail polishes and while I was totally not okay, with this…what can I say? The trend is finally growing on me. For one thing, gel nail polishes tend to last a lot longer than traditional nail polishes. This rocks my world in so many ways because yaaaay! I don’t have to worry about my nails chipping when I am out of town and don’t have the time to remove the polish.

I’ve trend over a dozen of brands that say they’ve got the best gel nail polish, and I don’t know, girls…sometimes I think brands that you can purchase at Walmart do it better. Take Revlon’s Gel Envy ColorStay nail polish.

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy

This baby doesn’t move. I’m not even kidding. I can achieve an opaque finish with only 2 coats and the polish will last and last and last.

China Glaze The Giver Collection

China Glaze The Giver Collection
I love when brands give us nail polishes inspired by movies. The recently launched movie The Giver has been making waves in the movie world. I remember reading this book when I was in elementary or middle school but honestly…I can’t remember too much about it. When time permits, I’m going to check it out again. I always prefer to the read the book before seeing the movie. But in the meantime, I’ve been playing around with these polishes that I got as samples. While this collection didn’t instantly blow me away, it does have some special shades that I think nail polish lovers will appreciate.

China Glaze Community

Community is a milk chocolate brown and I have officially decided that I like brown nail polishes against my brown skin. There is just something so interesting and striking about brown polishes and I love seeing them in newer nail polish collections.

China Glaze Five Rules

Brace yourself because Five Rules is just one of many similar shades that we are going to see in this collection. This creamy dirty eggshell shade is pretty in its own right.

China Glaze Seeing Red

Seeing Red is a stunning fire engine red that I wasn’t prepared to fall in love with, but…I did. Then again, like many reds, once you own 5 different reds, you really own them all. This is pretty but it isn’t insanely unique.

China Glaze Intelligence Intergity & Courage

Intelligence Intergity & Courage is the longest nail polish name everrrr! Haha, I’m kidding. Not really, though. I do really like this dusty and muted light blue. It has a bit of gray in it and I think it’ll look beautiful on just about anyone.

China Glaze The Outer Edge

The Outer Edge is a white snowy topcoat. I applied 2 coats of it on my top 2 fingers and 1 coat of it on my bottom two fingers. I really love this and I’m thinking I can do some really fun things with it during the holiday season.

China Glaze Givers Theme

Givers Theme is a vibrant purple creme that is by far my favorite shade in the collection. It is stunning and applies beautifully. It also shines very well without a topcoat.

China Glaze New Birth

New Birth is a white creme that has a touch of gray in it. And that’s all.

China Glaze History of the World

History of the World is a beautiful gray/blue. I don’t know. I’m having a tough time describing this one. Maybe that’s a good thing.

China Glaze Release

Release is a very pretty dusty lavender. I’m sure we’ve seen this before, but I don’t know…I like it.

China Glaze Capacity to See Beyond

Capacity to see Beyond photographs so so OFF so please forgive me. There wasn’t enough color correcting in the world for that baby. In true life it is bright blue sea blue. It definitely has more green that my camera was not able to pick up.

China Glaze Boundary of Memory

Boundary of Memory is a glitter chockfull of silver, gold and black.

China Glaze Friends Forever Right

Friends Forever, Right? is another white creme but unlike the other similar cremes in this collection, this one has a touch of baby pink in it.

Overall Impressions

Well, I don’t know. I wouldn’t call it a disappointing collection but it did leave me a bit…“Where is the cream filling?”-ish. I do love the purples (Release and Givers Theme) and I think Seeing Red and The Outer Edge are fun the overabundance of creamy whites just threw me off a bit. Maybe after seeing the movie, I’ll be more forgiving? We shall seeee…

What do you think? See any shades that you like?

Hot Designs Nail Art pens – Score or Snore?

So I’ve rambled before about how much I suck at nail art, right? I have long determined that my God-given talents just don’t really flow in the artsy category. I’ve accepted it and have decided to foster my strengths in other areas. But still. Part of me wishes she could be that patient and talented nail artista. And that’s why I was so excited to receive a sample of these dual-sided nail art pens from Hot Designs.

Hot Designs nail pens

Retailing for $14.99, nail art lovers can cop a package of 3 pens from retailers like Walmart. And by dual-sided, they mean that one side of the pen is a nail polish and the other side is nail pen.

Hot Designs

How cool is that? Definitely innovative and that makes the price tag seem much more appropriate. And honestly, I’d be much more in love with these if the quality of the polishes were better. Because they aren’t, application is a bit of a mess and no matter how careful you are, you probably find yourself dealing with less than attractive nail polish designs. But, first let’s get a better idea of what these are SUPPOSED to do.

Hot Designs packaging

You pop the top on one side and you’ve got a nail polish with a basic brush and you remove the top on the other side and you’ve got a pen. You gently squeeze the tube and the polish flows effortlessly through the pen. So…easy? Yes!!

Hot Designs pen tops
But here’s where the funny part comes in – the quality of the nail polish is well…it isn’t good. I found each shade to be a bit on the thick and gloppy side. Due to the thick consistency of these, I struggled with both applying them on my nails and applying the art on top of the polish. And this saddened me greatly because I really wanted these to work.

Hot Designs polishes

You’re going to laugh when you see my designs but keep in mind that this blog is called Clumps of Mascara for a reason. Perfection does not live here. And dude, Hot Designs could really tweak their formula a bit because the concept is just…very cool. It doesn’t work well, though if you’re dealing with polishes that don’t play well with the nails. I manage to do a good coat of polish on each nail but using the pen to crank out designs was…tough. The polish kept bubbling and would splat quickly on the nails and this happened…

Hot Designs on nails

I know, girl. I know. Granted, as mentioned, I suck in the designs department, but I feel like I would have done a little better if the formula was better.

So who would these be great for?
Maybe the newbie nail artist in your life? I’m thinking my youngest sister would looooove these as would really professional nail artists who could tweak the bubbly pen issue with another brush, or something. So no, all hope isn’t lost but I don’t think these are great for people like me who are already struggling with nail design.

So. What do you think? Have you seen these? Tried ‘em?

OPI Mustang Nail Polish Collection

OPI Mustang Collection

Vroom baby, vroooom! The Mustang is turning 50 and in honor of its birthday, OPI is giving us a collection about this iconic car. I received a press sample of the limited edition collection. It was released just last month in July so you should be able to find it at retailers like Ulta and JC Penny Salons.

OPI Queen of the Road

OPI Queen of the Road nail polish

Queen of the Road appears black at first glance but really this polish is a blackened murky green. Okay yeah, but it still looks black on the nails. There is a touch of silver in it that gives it a nice shimmery finish. I didn’t like it at first but somehow it works. It’s a very interesting shade and very fitting for a collection inspired by an automobile.

OPI Race Red

OPI Race Red nail polish

Race Red really isn’t red. It fact, it leans more on the orange side. It really is the perfect blend of orange and red and is the kind of shade that will look fantastic on anyone who wears it.

OPI The Sky's My Limit

OPI The Sky's My Limit nail polish

The Sky’s My Limit is a deep blue sea shade golden shimmer throughout. It’s sweet because at different glances it switches from shimmery golden green to shimmery golden blue and back. It totally reminds me of an ice cream paint job.

OPI Angel With A Lead Foot

OPI Angel With A Lead Foot nail polish

Angel With A Lead Foot is a creme white polish. And that’s it. It’s your average white polish in that it takes a good 2-3 coats to achieve an opaque finish. It’s pretty but I don’t know…it seems a bit odd to be in this collection.

OPI Girls Love Ponies

OPI Girls Love Ponies nail polish

Girls Love Ponies is a bright pink creme. I rolled my eyes when I first glanced at it, but it really is a stunning pink. This says a lot considering pink is one of my least favorite colors. It isn’t heavily unique as far as pink nail polishes go but it is pretty!

OPI 50 Years Of Style

OPI 50 Years Of Style nail polish

50 Years Of Style is a metallic gold nail polish and really is the perfect polish for this collection since a 50th birthday is called the Golden Birthday. I never think gold nail polishes look that good on me and this one is no exception. Womp.

Overall Impressions
Shade-wise, these are okay. There isn’t anything spectacular but you can tell that this isn’t one of OPI’s powerhousecollections. The only shade that really made my head turn was The Sky’s My Limit. Girls Love Ponies was a nice surprise, too. Overall, I think that if you have similar shades, you don’t really HAVE to run to pick these up. As always, the formula is great but unless you’re just itching to try something new, you could probably pass on purchasing the entire collection.

But if you can’t help yourself (and I so won’t judge you), you can snag these polishes for $9.50 a bottle at ULTA.com.

Any Ford lovers in the house? The Mustang is pretty slick but I don’t know, I’m more of an F150 kind of girl.

Neon Nail Polishes For The Win!

Neon polishes

Dude. This makeup wars post totally creeped up on me and I almost didn’t get it in. But hey…there was no way I was going to let this week go by without joining my girls as we showcased some of our favorite neon polishes.

So. Neon polishes. You either love them or you…run away from them. I get it. They’re bright and not everyone feels comfortable rockin’ traffic cone orange on their nails and toes. This girl does. Yes, y’all. I would rock neon polishes all day and everyday, if I could. I don’t wear them as much as I’d like because let’s face it…the formula generally sucks. And this goes for all brands and colors. If neons applied like creme nail polishes, I’d be in trouble. I’d roll up to a job interview like “Heyyyy! How are you lovin’ my neon green nails?” Okay, I’m kidding.

Maybe?

Neon nail polishes

Since my reviews of neon nail polishes are pretty skimpy, I decided to go to the vault (AKA my nail polish stash) and pull out some of my old favorite neon babies. And these kids made the cut.

Best neon nail polishes

I decided to do a quick neon Skittles nails showcasing 5 of my favorite neon nail polishes. I used white nail polish under each polish. From thumb to pinky…

Neon nails

China Glaze Shell-O is definitely on the sheerer side as far as neons go but she’s bright and absolutely stunning against my skin.

China Glaze Sun Worshipper is one of my favorite neons of all time. Mainly because application is always so nice and easy. I believe China Glaze makes a far more vibrant neon orange but I can’t put my finger on it. Literally.

Essie Funky Limelight was one of my first neon polishes. I’ve had this baby for years and when I think of a neon nail polish, this is the shade that always comes to mind.

China Glaze I’m With the Lifeguard took me by surprise a few weeks ago. I mean daaaang. This lime green is flawless. I rediscovered it and can’t get over how cool it looks on my toes. I’d post pics but I’m one of those people who don’t post pictures of their toes. Because I hate pictures of peoples’ toes. So I won’t do that to you…

Aaaand OPI’s Push & Pur-pull from their Neons collection. I don’t really think this is considered a neon purple but OPI says it is and it is a divine purple so…whatever.

China Glaze

Roll through to the lists of the other girls of the Makeup Wars to see what they’re lovin’…

Milani Is SO Making A Statement With Their New Color Statement Nail Polishes

Oh Milani. Oh girl…you are lookin’ good. Something looks different about you. I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Milani Color Statement

Milani has totally shocked us with this one and they are giving us not 1, not 2 but 37 new shades of their new line of nail polishes. I received a few samples of these and I can’t wait to start showing you how fantastic they are.

Milani Color Statement polishes

I am loving the bottle design! Like, a lot. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Cult Nails’ bottle.

Milani Color Statement vs Cult Nails bottle

Milani needed a more updated and a more chic look for a nail polish bottle. I mean, don’t get me wrong…their original bottles aren’t terrible. They’re just…

Milani Color Statement vs Nail Lacquer

I mean, which one would you rather pick up? And pay no mind to the teeth marks on the bottle to the right. I have a terrible habit of using my teeth to loosen nail polish bottles. I know, I know. Don’t even say it. I know.

Milani Color Statement nail polishes

I’ve been playing around with these babies for a few days now and formula-wise, Milani is right in that they give great coverage with only one coat. Most will require a second coat if you want true opacity, but they do really well with the initial coat. As with all nail polishes, wear time is relative but I’ve always been a huge fan of their base coat and I think it is spectacular at helping nail polish last longer than a day.

Milani nail polish

The Color Statement line is giving is so many formulas and shades to pick from including glitters, a fire engine red, stunning purples, sweet pinks, vampy shades and everything in between. I’m so proud of Milani! I am very excited about these reasonably priced bottles of polish. They go for $3.99 which is a dollar less than their regular line of polishes. I’m thinking these will be a huge hit among Milani aficionados and those scouring drugstores for pretty polishes. If the chic bottle design doesn’t grab you, the really pretty color selections will.

Go Milani go!
