Amor de Lacquer: Essie Luxeffects collection

No need to adjust your computer. These are actual glitter polishes. From Essie. Insane, right?

Essie does a lot of things well. When it comes to formula, bridal nail polish colors and shades that won’t scare those who don’t want too much bling on their nails, Essie rules. I would have never put them and glitter together. I am so excited to see this collection from them. While none of these glitters are groundbreaking, they are fantastic.

Because they are intended to be worn OVER nail polishes, I’m featuring each polish here over one coat of a black nail polish.

As Gold As It Gets is described as a polish with gilded lamé sparkles. Ooooh, fancy, uh? This polish has a nice combination of dense flakies and gold glitter. There’s nothing too over the top about it but I really love it. I can only imagine how beautiful this would love layered over an orange or red.

Shine of the Times is an all too popular flakie polish that Essie describes being scintillating opalescence. We’ve seen this before from Nubar’s 2010 and Sally Hansen’s Hidden Treasure. So yeah – this isn’t unique, but I’m glad to see a flakie like this again. You can never have too many of them. It turns any polish into such a majestic look. And how cute is Shine of the Times as a polish name? Loves it!

A Cut Above is a shattered pink diamond glitz that adds a pinky pop to any polish you’ve got. I spy some hexagon glitters and love how one coat of this polish gives such a beautiful display of pink glitter. I’m not a fan of pink and I love this. So girly!

Set in Stones is just the silver sister of A Cut Above. It’s just as pretty and I don’t mean to play favorites but I think I love ACA better.

Pure Pearlfection is a disco mirror ball chaos. Yep, that’s what Essie says. I agree. While this polish looks to be pretty blah in the bottle, I actually really like it. The subtle blue micro shimmer looks fantastic layered over darker polishes.

Must Haves:
-Shine Of The Times: Only if you don’t own any flakie top coats.
-A Cut Above: It’s just soooo pretty. And if you’re into making your own polishes, this polish will be a nice addition for mixing.
Pure Pearlfection: It’s just beautiful.

I used one coat for each polish and while I used black as a base, I think these will be great over any shades. Shine Of The Times does a darn good job layered over orange and I can’t wait to see how Set In Stones will look over Essie’s Mesmerize. I’m so proud of Essie. They stepped outside of the box on this one and I couldn’t be happier.

Had enough glitter polishes or are you liking these too?

Pretty Polishes: The EPIC Glitter Gal Lizard Belly

This is one serious polish, y’alll. One so serious that I waited weeks for it and didn’t mind spending close to $20 on it.

Okay, don’t judge me. Didn’t you know? All beauty purchases become justified once I do a post about it. It’s in the Beauty Blogging Bible. Clause 29, line 3. Or something like that…

Anywhoovers, I practically dreamed about this polish when I placed the order. Because it was coming all the way from Australia (hey Aussie gals!), I had to wait a few weeks. Nothing is more pathetic than watching a grown woman run to the mailbox every day just to return to her car with a defeated look on her face.

But alas the polish finally arrived and all was well with the world.

Beautiful, ain’t it? I want more Glitter Gal polishes. I ordered this baby from Overall Beauty (hi Kim!) and I’m making a list of polishes that I want to order. Of course, I’ll pass that list over to Esposo. Maybe he’ll surprise me or somethin’. You know…keep the newlywed bliss alive.

Have you tried anything from  Glitter Gal?

Pretty Polishes: Finger Paints’ Twisted

Flakies. They are the newest nail polish trend. Which is hilarious to say because once upon a time, it was virtually impossible to find flakie nail polishes. There was always one of my favorite brands…Nfu-Oh, but shipping for their polishes are anything but cheap.

Between Zoya, Cult Nails and now Finger Paints releasing flakie polishes, it almost feels like the thrill is gone. Don’t get me wrong, I still love flakies but I loved ‘em more when they were diamonds in the rough, ya know?

Still. Twisted is awesome…

Not much to say about this baby except it is probably one of the best flakie polishes out now. I will say this: Cult Nails’ Unicorn Puke and Clairvoyant (soon to be re-released) are twins except Clarivoyant has a blue base and Twisted has a  clear base.

Both are stunning but can I be honest? I love Clairvoyant better. It may or may not have to do with the fact that I’ve met Maria (the owner of Cult Nails) and think she’s just a doll. Twisted is cool too. I snagged it at Sally Beauty Supply before the holidays.

Are you into flakie polishes?

Amor de Lacquer: Color Club Beyond the Mistletoe collection

Okay, don’t laugh. I so meant to post this before the holiday but uh….yeah. I kinda got behind. No worries. If you’re still lusting for anything in this collection, you can still grab if you can find it. This glitter trend just won’t stop. And I will be the last person to complain about it. You either love glitter polishes or you hate them. There is no in between. I hate removing them but honey, I LOVE me some glitter polishes. This collection is glitter overload and I just loooove it.

Gingerbread is a pretty soft gold with a dash of holographic glitter. It’s one of your softer holos and doesn’t stand out as much as its siblings. It’s still pretty though.

Sugar Plum Fairy is my favorite of the bunch. This baby is a bright silver glitter with a gorgeous holo effect. I spot a little bit of purple in it but this is perhaps the most dominant glitter that has the holo effect.

Holiday Splendor is a green jelly glitter. I LOVE this one. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a glitter OR jelly that gave so much coverage in only 2 coats. Freaking fantastic.

Jingle Jangle is is the blue kid of the family but it isn’t as holographic as the others. Which is okay. I also spot a some purple in the mix. I am so going to layering this over a purple.

Beyond The Mistletoe has more green than Jingle Jangle but it is still a blue-based holo glitter. It’s just okay to me.

Candy Cane is a pink glitter that doesn’t appear to have any holographic effect. Call me nuts, but I don’t see many pink glitters. This one is jewel! And this is coming from someone who doesn’t dig pink polishes.

Must Haves:
-Sugar Plum Fairy: It’s super holographic and fantastic!
-Holiday Splendor: Because seriously, when have you ever seen a green jelly glitter?

I applied 2 coats for each polish but if you really want to push it to the limit, 3 coats is best. My favorite thing about ‘em? They are super diverse! One coat will be great for layering but they are also opaque enough to be worn solo. Very rarely do we see glitter polishes with just much holographic in ‘em so I’m just so in love with this collection. Go Color Club go! Find more information about the brand and where you can find it here.

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Spring 2012 – True and Fleck Effect collections

I love nail polish brands that stay up on the trends. Some choose to ignore them completely and others become annoyingly obsessed with them. Zoya sits right in the middle and still remains to shock us beauty bloggers. I’m shooting you with 2 collections in one post but only because I didn’t want you to have to wait for me to crank out another post.

I’m so nice, uh? And modest too. 8)

First up, it’s the True collection!

This collection is full of traditional Spring-y shades but with a TON of personality to them. Now that I think about it…they aren’t so traditional at all. Which is quite refreshing. I also found that each and every one of these polishes were opaque at 2 coats. Yes. TWO. That hardly ever happens with softer creams. Zoya is boss, yo.

Skylar is a silvered slate blue metallic. It looks a bit muted outside but when some light hits it…oh baby, this blue is the bomb. I don’t think I have a shade like this. The best thing about it is while it does have glitter specs in it, it isn’t difficult to remove. Very pretty. Oh, and I know like 13 kids under the age of 5 with the name Skylar. It’s one of those popular names, ya know? Like Brittany. Pfft.

Bevin is a pale sage green green that looks to be a little on the dusty/gray side. I love it though. It’s so mod and unusual. It is definitely Spring-y in that it reminds me a lot of…well, okay…it doesn’t really remind me of anything. It’s just so darn groovy.

Farah is a latte beige cream. Want to know the truth about this color? I don’t know if I like it or not. I know, I know. I should have made up my mind by now but I just….I don’t know. On one hand, I think shades like this look a little fugly on my complexion and on the other hand, I think it looks classy. I just…I don’t know about you, Farah, darling. I’ll tell you one thing about this kid…she is one opaque mama!

Tru is described as a  gilded purple orchid metallic. Dear heavens this shade is gorgeous. It is so up my alley, y’all. Yes, yes, I know….I pretty much love purple everything but this is just stunning.

Cho is a full coverage, vanilla shimmer metallic and it took everything in me to not remove the C and add a P. P for Pho. I love pho. Anywhoovers, this shade….*sigh* I am still on the fence with it like I am with Farah. I guess I’m not used to seeing these kind of shades on me and so I have to get used to them.

Lotus is a full coverage, light lotus purple metallic and another winner in my book. As the description says, it’s a lighter purple so it isn’t as rich in color like Tru. It has a bit more gray in it and you can see neon pink shimmer in it when it hits the sun.

Must Haves:
-Tru. For reals. Don’t even play around and NOT get this one.
-Bevin. Because have you seen a green so pretty AND so opaque?

Next up is the Fleck Effect collection. Keep in mind that these 3 polishes are intended to go on top of other shades. They are layering polishes. Can you wear them solo? Well, yeah…. No one is going to stop you from doing that. But they REALLY come to life when layered on top of nail polishes. I think flakies look amazing over dark polishes. Ideally blacks, greens, burgundies and murky purples. Zoya is giving us 3 special kind of flakie polishes. What makes them special? They are emerged in a colorful base. I’ve never seen that before! Go Zoya go!

The shades…

Opal – Green tint with mylar green fleck effect
Chloe – Pink tint with mylar green and gold fleck effect
Maisie – Blue tint with mylar green fleck effect

Aaaand, up close.

Just to give you an idea of how they do over light and dark colors, I swatched a nail with each shade. The base for this is Zoya’s Cho.

Not my idea of a good time. The party really starts over a darker base. The base here is Zoya’s Envy, a dark green polish, almost black.

Pretty cool, uh? Please forgive me as I get acquainted with this new lens that I have. Considering flakies are the newest trend, I would definitely scoop these up if I were you. You can never have too many. Maisie and Chloe look a lot alike but if I had to choose one over the other, I’d go with Chloe.

This collection will be available on January 13th at Zoya.com. Get your pennies ready!

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Muppets collection, Part 2

Yes, I’m totally nuts for just NOW posting this but don’t blame me. Okay, yes…blame me but love my anyway, kay? 8) Yay for Part II of OPI’s The Muppets collection. If you missed Part 1 (The Glitters), don’t forget to check it out. The other 6 siblings of the collection aren’t glittery, but they are just as fantastic.

Let’s take a look-see, shall we?

Wocka Wocka really isn’t ALL that unique but it applied beautifullllly on my nails. I’m pretty sure I have a color like this but I can’t put my finger on why I’m so attracted to this deep berry. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Meep Meep Meep is a beautiful fuchsia that has flakies in it! I love spotting flakies in polish. They are so totally rare. This, of course, makes Triple M and a triple threat. It’s a bright fuchsia that has a darling name AND contains flakies. Ooooh yeah.

Designer…De Better looked to be your average silver foil-y polish but a closer look makes it appear as if a little cinnamon was sprinkled in that silver formula. I was quick to write this off as an average silver polish but it’s actually quite fantastic.

Pepe’s Purple Passion. Never mind that I had to do a Google-search to see who Pepe actually was. Known as The Muppet’s Prawn, Pepe used to be a chef until he was mistaken for a meal. Hilarious, right? This shade definitely does Pepe justice. Like Meep Meep Meep, this dark purple will be my Vamp Shade of the Season. Flakies pretty much make everything better.

Warm & Fozzie. Despite not remembering much about The Muppets, I do remember Fozzie. What a cutie pie that guy is. This shade is SO him. This metallic copper actually really compliments my complexion.

Animal-istic. LOL @ how Animal’s name is Animal. That just cracks me up. This bright red contains a few specks of glitter. It’s really nothing out of the ordinary which is a shame because Animal is one unique dude.

Being the glitter lover that I am, I , of course love the glitters most from this 12-piece collection, but if I had to choose some must haves from these babies, they would be:

-Wocka Wocka Wocka: I just can’t explain how beautiful this is. You may have a dupe in your collection, but with a name like this Wocka times 3, you just HAVE to have this one.

-Warm & Fozzie: Chances are you don’t have a polish like this in your collection. It’s so cool!

-Meep Meep Meep: It’s a red polish with flakies. Enough said.

Got your eyes on any of ‘em?

Guest Post: Mimi’s Peacock Nails

I was quite flattered to be asked by Brittany to write a guest post for Clumps, you have no idea! It’s like a blogging celebrity thing. The blogging equivalent to Paula Deen asking you for your macaroni & cheese recipe.

I was Googling around, looking for patterns to inspire some new nail designs when I found this picture of a rug.

It was so simple, yet definitely captured the essence of peacocks (side note- peahens really got short end of the stick. Nature definitely did not leave any beauty for them!).

I freehanded the design. I bet there is probably a nail stamping plate that you could use to easily stamp the light green background pattern, but sometimes there is great joy and satisfaction in doing something completely by hand.

I used:

From left to right: Sally Hansen Fairy Teal, Orly Sweet Peacock, Spoiled I Only Eat Salads and a mixture of Sally Hansen Polar Bare + Ulta Snow White for the base white color.

Second side note: Have you ever seen a peacock fly? Up until recently, I didn’t even know they could, figured they were too heavy, that all those feathers must drag them down. I recently saw a video of one taking flight, it’s quite spooky how graceful and quiet they are. Birds can be sneaky. Never forget that.

Christmas with my Milani JewelFX polishes

You know what I’m going to use as ornaments next year? Nail polishes.

How epic would that be? Epic beyond epic. I’m like Mama Clumps in that regard. I also do themed Christmas trees. I’m not a big fan of random ornaments all over the tree. And considering how much I love nail polishes, I think a nail polish tree would be quite fitting.

Of course I’d have to run that by Esposo but I’m sure he’d be down with it. Kinda. If you’re one of those people that really get into Christmas tree decorations and you know you’ll spending the holidays with a beauty lover, hide some of those lovely Milani JewelFX polishes in and around the tree…

..or stockings.

With darling little Tartan Tips tags attached, you can easily print who the gift is for. I am an enormous fan of these glittery topcoats.

Go Milani go. Of course you can get them at drugstores, Target and anywhere you can find Milani products..
