Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Up and Away collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve indulged in a China Glaze collection. While most of them have been appealing to me, I’m trying to be a little more cautious with my polish purchasing. Sometimes you get to a point where you just have too many of the same color, or something similar, ya know?

But China Glaze got me this time around. Check out the promo pic…

A collection of creams? *faints* Must.snag.all!

But snag all I did not do. You see, I have this thing called an empty wallet self-control. I only purchased 4 of the 12 polishes. And those babies would beeee….

Re-Fresh Mint is soooo cool. I love pale creamy greens. I don’t have any colors like this is my collection. It is definitely a must have. Even if it does tend to drag at the cuticles a bit.

Four Leaf Clover is ridiculous. In a good way, I mean. What a beautiful green. It seems like I would have already owned a color like this, but nope! My camera shows Four Leaf Clover looking a bit aqua-ish, but nope…it is a true green.

It’s such a fun color and it made me want to pull out my dotting tool and get to work.

I ca-learly need to be practicing with the dotting tool a bit, eh? Come on, class. We digress.

Grape Pop smudged on me a bit and now that I’ve had it for awhile, I’m realizing that I have other purples like it. But exactly how many gorgeous purple creams can you have?

Lemon Fizz is such a gorgeous soft yellow. I don’t have a yellow like this. While most yellows send you to Streaky Land, Lemon Fizz was absolutely perfect. Am I the only one craving Lemon Heads?

I funk-ed it a bit with some straight glitter.

What a great collection, China Glaze! I am quite satisfied with my owning only one-third (did I do my math right?)of the collection. Up and Away also has pink, peach and orange-ish colors; all worth a try if you are in the market for some new and cool polishes.

I got these from Head2ToeBeauty.comfor $2.99 a bottle.

Have you seen this collection yet? What do you think?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Prisms collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar does it again. I think it’s safe to say that they are indeed one of my favorite nail polish companies EVER. They are always coming out with super unique collections. The Prisms collection is nothing but…wait for it…holos! Holos=holographic=death by love and admiration. Just look at these babies…

Here’s the rundown…

Brilliant actually looks more stunning than I thought it would. If I’m going to wear a light pink (gag), this is the way to do it!

Jewel is one of those colors that makes you say “Hmm…”. I didn’t have high expectations for it. Not sure why because Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection totally sold me on browns but Jewel was just “different”.

*drops jaw* Niiiice! And just to get an idea of how bling-tastic it is, check this out. *swoons.

Absolute is okay. I do wish it was more opaque because then it would have been STUNNING. It took a good 3 thick coats to cover up my stained nails.

Essence is should probably switch names with Jewel. I’m not the biggest fan of this rosy pink but it applies beautifully.

Gem is Jewel’s little sister. It has a little more gray in it but the same amount of holographic shimmer.

Spark looks funny on me but I still like it! It’s a tan with personality.

Prize is definitely my favorite of the bunch. It was opaque after only two coats and sparkles and shines from a mile away. Love love love this color!

Treasure is purple and that is reason enough enough for me to love it. It took three coats to reach complete opacity. It isn’t on Color Club’s Wild At Heart level but it certainly earns its place in the collection.

Yay to Nubar for stepping out of the box again! Holographic polishes are rarities so I hope this collection spearheads some kind of trend. I didn’t have any application problems with these babies although I do wish they were all all more opaque. Especially Absolute. How cool would it be to see a dark teal holographic? *faints*

Nonetheless, Nubar has impressed me again and I will continue singing praises about this nail polish brand.

You can get the entire collection here for $59.95 or buy them individually for $7.29/ea.

Other Nubar collections I’ve reviewed:
Going Green
Modern Mattes
Chocolate Truffles

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Reverie

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Spring time is here! Can you feel it? Nah, I’m jivin’. Even Florida isn’t feeling quite Spring-like to me just yet. I ordered 80-degree weather a few days ago and it still ain’t here!

Humph! Well, in the meantime we’ve got a gorgeous Spring collection from Zoya. I have been getting so many emails about collection so please excuse the delay. Better late than never, riiiiight? This collection is all about ‘metallic oil slick’ looking polishes, per Zoya’s website. (source) Perfect for Spring!

Hit the jump to see up close swatches of each polish.

Adina was the color that many folx emailed me about. This color reminds me of a light purple marble. It is definitely the most unique in the bunch but I’m not too sure how I feel about it on my warm skin. Hmm….

Reece is totally awesome and although I have a polish like this in my collection (the name escapes me) I welcomed Reece with open arms. It is super pink with gold undertones. Loves it!

Happi is is like Reece’s little sister. The pink is taken down a few notches it’s actually wearable enough for me. I’m not the biggest fan of pink polishes (so blah and expected) but with that added shimmer…I could work it a bit.

Gwin is urnge as us folx in the South say. Urnge means extremely orange. Gwin actually has a lot of red in it too but mannnn, I LOVE how it looks!

Lana is like Gwin minus the orange. What is left is a ton of red but you still have that beautiful gold that radiates a mile away. Yikes! The application on my middle finger is no bueno.

Laney is a super metallic silver that I just love! I love silver polishes….especially when they are opaque after only one coat.

Not bad for a Spring collection, Zoya! Although I would have loved to see an unexpected color like green. A metallic green would have been awesome. Something on the lines of Zoya’s Midori which I still rock to this very day. I only applied two coats for each color, which is great! Oftentimes metallic polishes can be a hot streaky mess. I didn’t experience any problems with these babies though.

Which one is your favorite?

Buy these and more for $7/bottle at Zoya.com.

Amor de Lacquer: Orly’s Metal Chic Metallic Matte collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Okay, so can I do one more matte nail polish review? Pretty please? I really think you’ll like this one. And I promise it will be the last for a while. I don’t know if the trend is over or not but who cares? Orly has swept me away again. Check THIS out…

Glam Rock is a cool lookin’ cooper that is a little warmer than a penny. I love the way it looks matte. For some reason, I don’t think colors like this compliment my complexion when they are all shiny.

Iron Butterfly is another velvet-ty matte black. We’ve seen this before from Zoya’s Dovima. Iron Butterfly has more silver which makes it unique. And I love that name…Iron Butterfly. Hot!

Solid Gold is a matte gold. WOW! I’ve never been a fan of golds on my warm skin but this works!

Oh, Orly….how I love thee. I thought you stole my heart with your first matte collection. But nope…this one definitely trumps the predecessor. The consistency of these polishes remind me of Zoya’s Velvets and OPI’s Suedes. Think smooth and…velvet-y. Tiny silver specks give the “metallic” affect.

These polishes were a little thick and didn’t leave me wanting to apply a third coat. Not that I needed to as two coats seemed to be just fine.

I used two coats for each and didn’t have any application problems although Glam Rock did have some streaky issues.

Buy these and more for $3.19/bottle at TransDesign or anywhere Orly polishes are sold.

Are you sick of the matte trend yet?

Amor de Lacquer: Sally Hansen is bringin’ it!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

So um….have y’all been keeping your eyes on Sally Hansen’s polishes? Lately they have REALLY been surprising me with fabulous colors and collections. I mean…they seriously have something for everyone.

A few weeks ago I was doing my weekly drugstore run when two of their stands literally knocked me over.

Exhibit A…

The colors are insane, y’all. I’ve played around with the wide Insta-Dri brush before and while it takes some getting used to, I can appreciate it. One stroke and your entire nail is covered.

Exhibit B…

Now these seem to be the new kids on the block. What a wonderful debut. That Grass Slipper (cute name) has got to be mine! I love the bottle designs too. But the $7.99 price tag? Not so much. Oh wait….remember when I reviewed the Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen collection? I think that this is the same polish but with a new look.

I love the Extreme Wear polishes.

Twisted Pink layered with In The Spotlight run for less than $3 each but they are even cheaper than that with a Walgreens or CVS buy 1, get 1 free sale. Holla!

And then they have the Diamond Strength polishes which is a line that my Grandma and I can both choose from. Mommy’s Mommy in Ohio would probably choose something like Toast of the Town…

Whereas I’d head towards Mon Cherie…

And they have plenty of options in between. Even lovely silver and gold glitters.

I like the Diamond Strength polishes. With extended wear, they really do seem to keep the nails nice and hard with minimal chipping. Gotta love it!

Sally Hansen is really making me smile. Their website is even user-friendly. That is a total rarity for a drugstore polish brand. Now I know what you’re going to say next.

“B, stop bragging! Sally Hansen isn’t even sold in the Philippines/Aruba/
Canada/Trinidad/the Netherlands/Kenya.”

I know, right? I have friends in the states that can’t even locate newer Sally Hansen collections. It seems like distribution is limited. Whyyyyy? *tears*

Hopefully in 2010 we’ll see Sally Hansen not only come out with more gorgeous colors but hit your favorite store in your city.

Are you a Sally Hansen fan?

Amor de Lacquer: Orly’s Mattes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

That’s right…more mattes! But before you roll your eyes and tell me you can’t get down with the matte look, check out Orly’s! Their finish reminds me so much of Nubar’s and Zoya’s. They have that velvet-y thing goin’ on that a lot of anti-matte folx can get down with. Watch this…..

Blue Suede

WOW! I mean….wow. I probably should have thrown a top coat over this baby just to see what it would look like. But I was too busy loving its matte-ness. What a stunning blue. I don’t have any blues like this in my collection. I think this is a definite must-have. Even if you don’t like mattes, you can always throw a top coat over it and rock it like normal. Love. It!

Matte Vinyl

This just may be my favorite matte blacks. The application was phenomenal and the intensity of the black was dead one. It wasn’t the least bit streaky.

Purple Velvet

What a fabulous purple! Y’all know my heart beats for purple polishes and this one does not let me down.

Wow…I mean wow, Orly. I will always be a fan of Orly for their rubberized handle. This just makes all to much sense for nail techs and regular polish polishers alike. Application of these mattes were great. I didn’t experience any streakiness and I got good opaque coverage in only one coat. I went ahead with two coats for each just because that’s what I’m used to.

You can get them for $3.19 each at TransDesign.com or at any Orly retailer like Sally’s Beauty Supply.

Are these not the best things ever or what?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Holiday ’09 Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Ready for another Diamond Cosmetics polish review? This time we’re going to be playing around with their beautiiiiful holiday collection?

Let’s go!

Blue Diamonds

Um, wooooow…..I don’t own a blue like this. Blue Diamonds is amazingly sparkly. The silver glitter isn’t the least bit chunky so application was easy. This color reminds me of a bright blue sky with stars shinning through. Whoa…how cool would that be to see?

Diamond’s Diamond

This baby works best for layering. It looks funky on my nails solo but I would imagine it would make any of your favorite non-glittery polishes pop! Diamond Cosmetics has a similar color like this called Sweet As Sugar.

Amethyst & Diamonds

Oh la laaa….check out my favorite of the bunch. Amethyst & Diamond’s is like a violet version of Blue Diamonds. How gorgeous is it? This baby has is a notch down from a holo. What a keeper!

Rubies & Diamonds

Crazy application, right? Yeah…I don’t know what’s wrong with Rubies & Diamonds. It wasn’t showing me much love when applying it solo. It does a lot better with layering. And when it is accompanied with other polishes, why…it just looks fabulous.

See….that’s better!

Another hit from Diamond Cosmetics. I love the color selection of these polishes. While I love green polishes to death, it would have been so “expected” for a holiday collection. The “diamond” theme is super unique. I have yet to have a REAL problem with any of my Diamond Cosmetics polishes. I did a good 3 coats for each application. Rubies & Diamonds could probably go for a fourth as it is not AS opaque at the others.

Right now you can get all of these babies together for an easy $15. This also includes their matte top coat which is AMAZING!! I’ll be reviewing that soon.

Until then….get them all.

Clumps will always and forever love Diamond Cosmetics. Rock on!

See any you like?
Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Hmmm, truffles. I’m not the biggest chocolate fan in the world (I know, I know) but it’s just like Nubar to name a collection Chocolate Truffle. This collection satisfies your sweet tooth sans the calories and guilt. Nubar sent me these babies for review so without further ado…

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the stars of Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection:

Chocolate Coffee Bean is is described as a deep brown shimmer. I’ll be honest….I was hesitant about brown polish on brown skin. It didn’t seem like it would be something for I would like but by George, it’s gorg!

Raspberry Truffle sounds totally yummy and looks fantastic! I think this is my favorite out of the bunch. Funny what bright red shimmer can do to a brown polish. This is fabulous!

Cherry Cordial is the only color that I immediately liked when I first saw it. It had enough red to tame the brown that scared me.

Later that day I jazzed it up with Lippman’s Happy Birthday. It’s a party on my nails! I think I’m going to rock this on my real birthday (January 2nd….holla!).

Chocolate Caramel is described as a bro†wn gold shimmer. Yum-E! It looks luscious enough, uh? I’m not the biggest fan of gold polishes but this is a little warmer so it’s not so bad.

Swiss Chocolate isn’t a bad polish….I’m just not sure if it’s for me. It really is brown! This is a first for me. It’ll take some getting used to.

Milk Chocolate Creme looks so delicious. I’m not terribly in love with it either but it’s funky enough for me to sport.

Nubar does it again! When it comes to unique polish collections, they win. Hands down! I’ll admit that I have never really be interested in brown polishes. When I can find them, they just didn’t seem to be ideal for my warmer skintone. Nubar proves me wrong. While it may take me some time to love the entire clan, I’m glad that so many different variations of brown polishes are available.

I used 2 coats for each and didn’t experience any application issues. Not one bit. I’m going to doing some designs with these babies. Imagine the possibilities….

You can get all 6 polishes plus a base and top coat (loves ‘em!) for $49.95. Click here for more information.

Hmmm, whatcha say (channeling Jason DeRulo)? Like ‘em? Love ‘em? Could do without?
