Amor de Lacquer: Orly’s Foil FX and Sweet Collections

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

“I was walking along, minding my business,
When out of an orange-colored sky,
Flash! Bam! Alakazam!
Wonderful you came by.”

I grew up on Nat King Cole and one of my favorite songs by him is “Orange Colored Sky”. I swear I started singing it when I first saw Orly’s Foil FX collection.

I know what you’re thinking. Something is missing right? Yep! I snagged 2 of Foil FX’s 3 polishes and 1 of 6 from the Sweet collection. I can explain. Watch this!

The color missing from the Foil FX collection is Rage; a rusty rose foil. It didn’t tickle my fancy so I passed on it. What was left from the collection were these two wonders.

Shine is amazing! This polish is seriously a must have. This is the foil-est polish I own. I got so many compliments when I wore it. While nothing can compare to getting your nails Minx-ed with silver foil, Shine ain’t too far behind.

Luxe is GOLD! Really really gold. It isn’t as bling-y as I wanted it to be but it is still a great foil. I’m not a fan of most gold polishes but this has enough shine power to keep me happy.

The formula on the Foil FX polishes are impeccable. You can get complete coverage in a good 2 coats. I did 3 on these, though…just because I like to push it to the limit. Enormous fan of this collection, Orly!

Now of the 6 polishes in Orly’s Sweet collection, Snowcone was the only one that I really wanted. The other 5 were quite tempting but not terribly unique.

Snowcone is a blue yummy-lusciousness! Now that I’m looking at it, it may a dupe to Zoya’s Yummy.

I did have an incentive for buying this though. Each of the polishes in this collection come with a gloss.
I put mine on my keychain!

It’s a clear gloss but is surprisingly moisturizing and perfect for on the go.

That’s the thing about Orly. There are such a unique polish company. You’ve got the rubberized handles, cool polish names and you never know what cute little knick-knack you’re going to get with your polish.

I got these from Head2ToeBeauty.com for $3.50 a bottle.

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics Spring 2010 collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

La la la la laaaaah! Spring is in the air. At least it is here in Florida. For my ladies who are still in areas where it is a tad bit chilly, sometimes wearing Spring colors brings on Spring-like attitude.

Wait…does that make sense? No? Okay…well, let’s just check on Diamond Cosmetics’ Spring collection!

Angelic

Razzmatazz is described as a dainty pink. It has pink and purple shimmer and is the quintessential Spring color. I like it!

Orange Blush

What a yummy orange! It almost reminds me of an orange pop. It’s a cream with a jelly finish that applies beautifully.

Hot Lips

Total hotness, right?  This almost neon magenta are my favorite kind of red-esque colors. They are loud and perfect pedicure colors. This is totally off topic but I would love a lipstick this color too!

Tranquility

We’ve got a winner! What a gorgeous blue cream.
Gypsy Pink

It’s a color we’ve seen before but this soft red with white/pink shimmer is just screaming to be konad-ed or topped off with some design.

Serendipity

I can’t remember if I have a color like this or not. It is rather reminiscent of another color in time and for that reason, I love it. Everyone needs a pale blue-grey shimmer polish in their collection.

It’s another great collection from Diamond Cosmetics! I applied 2 coats for each polish and didn’t have any problems. Like with most creams, Tranquility dragged at the cuticles a bit. But is it not worth the out coming?

Hit the image below to snag the entire collection for only $25!

Amor de Lacquer: Milani 3D Holographic polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

This is the first time I’ve ever reviewed Milani polishes. But don’t get it twisted…I actually own about 7 of their polishes.  And yep, I love them! But this collection is just…AMAZING.

I mean, holos? Wow! Y’all know how much I love holographic polishes. I’ll admit that when I first saw these polishes in my local CVS, I blew them off. I felt as if I already had seen the best of the best of holo polishes. I was so wrong!

And here’s why…

HD

What an awesome silver holo! It looks deceiving because in the bottle and far away, it looks like a glitter. It is crazy blingy- and applies beautifully.

Hi-Tech

I reallllly love Hi-Tech. A lot! It really impressed me more on the nails than in the bottle. This is such a true holo. It looks good with two coats but three coats ensure that you get an opaque finish with a whole bunh of lemon-lime lovin’!

And it’s WAY better than  China Glaze’s L8R G8R!

Cyberspace

I think that Cyberspace looks a little funny on my nails, but I like it anyway. I love that it isn’t too warm or too cool. It reminds me of Miami Beach  and its sparkling water.

Hi-Res

Well hello there, you hot purple thang! This holo is absolutely stunning. And it took only two coats to achieve this radiant frosted plum finish.
I am missing a pink and gold. I’m not the biggest fan of gold nail polishes and the pink just wasn’t rockin’ my boat. Although some of these reach an opaque finish …If it weren’t for my girl, Yana over at MyOwnJudge.net, I would still be passing these babies by. I highly recommend them. You can snag them at your local drugstore for about $4.99.
Are you a fan of holographic polishes? Whatcha think about these?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Sparkles collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

When it comes to glitter nail polishes, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. Love them, I do. Removing them, I don’t. But some are so nice that they are worth the trouble of removing.

Take Nubar’s Sparkle collection for example.

This collection of glitters takes only requires 1-2 coats to achieve an opaque finish. Don’t believe me? Watch this!

Meadow Sparkle is pretty cool! A light green glitter is something I could have never imagined. This was the only one that needed 3 coats but no worries…once applied, it sparkles just as good as its classmates.

Star Sparkle is one of my favorites! It’s more than just a silver glitter. It has a holographic look to it that is just blinding. I love it!

It is a little thicker than most of the other polishes. But it’s not TOO much of a bad thing because that means it only needs one coat. Holler!

Petunia Sparkle is my favorite. What a gorgeous color! My camera is unable to to capture the essence of this magenta. It is so pigmented and I always get compliments when I wear this color. It’s the best!

But it does have its flaws….

Removing is a nightmare. But I just deal with it because it is just a fabulous glitter!

Night Sparkle is another must have. Wow! What a blue. It is so important to put down a base coat to prevent staining with this baby. But…wow-sers!

Fire Sparkle almost reminded me of China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps but Fire Sparkle has A LOT more glitter. It is insane. Which of course means I love it!

Violet Sparkle is indeed the best. I love love LOVE it! If I had a favorite color, this would be it. It is a rich royal blue with a good amount of hot pink glitter. It is magnificent. I can’t stop looking at my nails when I wear this color. My camera is having a tough time capturing a color this awesome so please don’t mind how OFF it looks in these photos.

Nubar’s Swatch:

Missing from the collection is Hyacinth Sparkles, a light purple and Sky Sparkles, a light blue. I can’t seem to find those boogers anywhere. I LOVED this collection. I didn’t love the removing process that comes with most glitters. It’s not something you can avoid…even if you use a base coat. I found that while these glitter polishes were easier to remove, they still let tiny micro glitters all under my cuticles and under my nails. I’m so meticulous that it took me FOREVER to thoroughly rid my nails of the glitter.

With all of these you will get an opaque finish in only one coat. Which is huge! Most glitters require 2-3 coats for complete coverage. I did, however, use 3 coats for each simply because I wanted to see the differences the number of coats would make. The must haves in this collection are Petunia Sparkle and Violet Sparkle. They are amazing!

You can get the entire collection here for $49.95 or buy them individually for $7.49/ea.

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Up and Away collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve indulged in a China Glaze collection. While most of them have been appealing to me, I’m trying to be a little more cautious with my polish purchasing. Sometimes you get to a point where you just have too many of the same color, or something similar, ya know?

But China Glaze got me this time around. Check out the promo pic…

A collection of creams? *faints* Must.snag.all!

But snag all I did not do. You see, I have this thing called an empty wallet self-control. I only purchased 4 of the 12 polishes. And those babies would beeee….

Re-Fresh Mint is soooo cool. I love pale creamy greens. I don’t have any colors like this is my collection. It is definitely a must have. Even if it does tend to drag at the cuticles a bit.

Four Leaf Clover is ridiculous. In a good way, I mean. What a beautiful green. It seems like I would have already owned a color like this, but nope! My camera shows Four Leaf Clover looking a bit aqua-ish, but nope…it is a true green.

It’s such a fun color and it made me want to pull out my dotting tool and get to work.

I ca-learly need to be practicing with the dotting tool a bit, eh? Come on, class. We digress.

Grape Pop smudged on me a bit and now that I’ve had it for awhile, I’m realizing that I have other purples like it. But exactly how many gorgeous purple creams can you have?

Lemon Fizz is such a gorgeous soft yellow. I don’t have a yellow like this. While most yellows send you to Streaky Land, Lemon Fizz was absolutely perfect. Am I the only one craving Lemon Heads?

I funk-ed it a bit with some straight glitter.

What a great collection, China Glaze! I am quite satisfied with my owning only one-third (did I do my math right?)of the collection. Up and Away also has pink, peach and orange-ish colors; all worth a try if you are in the market for some new and cool polishes.

I got these from Head2ToeBeauty.comfor $2.99 a bottle.

Have you seen this collection yet? What do you think?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Prisms collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar does it again. I think it’s safe to say that they are indeed one of my favorite nail polish companies EVER. They are always coming out with super unique collections. The Prisms collection is nothing but…wait for it…holos! Holos=holographic=death by love and admiration. Just look at these babies…

Here’s the rundown…

Brilliant actually looks more stunning than I thought it would. If I’m going to wear a light pink (gag), this is the way to do it!

Jewel is one of those colors that makes you say “Hmm…”. I didn’t have high expectations for it. Not sure why because Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection totally sold me on browns but Jewel was just “different”.

*drops jaw* Niiiice! And just to get an idea of how bling-tastic it is, check this out. *swoons.

Absolute is okay. I do wish it was more opaque because then it would have been STUNNING. It took a good 3 thick coats to cover up my stained nails.

Essence is should probably switch names with Jewel. I’m not the biggest fan of this rosy pink but it applies beautifully.

Gem is Jewel’s little sister. It has a little more gray in it but the same amount of holographic shimmer.

Spark looks funny on me but I still like it! It’s a tan with personality.

Prize is definitely my favorite of the bunch. It was opaque after only two coats and sparkles and shines from a mile away. Love love love this color!

Treasure is purple and that is reason enough enough for me to love it. It took three coats to reach complete opacity. It isn’t on Color Club’s Wild At Heart level but it certainly earns its place in the collection.

Yay to Nubar for stepping out of the box again! Holographic polishes are rarities so I hope this collection spearheads some kind of trend. I didn’t have any application problems with these babies although I do wish they were all all more opaque. Especially Absolute. How cool would it be to see a dark teal holographic? *faints*

Nonetheless, Nubar has impressed me again and I will continue singing praises about this nail polish brand.

You can get the entire collection here for $59.95 or buy them individually for $7.29/ea.

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Reverie

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Spring time is here! Can you feel it? Nah, I’m jivin’. Even Florida isn’t feeling quite Spring-like to me just yet. I ordered 80-degree weather a few days ago and it still ain’t here!

Humph! Well, in the meantime we’ve got a gorgeous Spring collection from Zoya. I have been getting so many emails about collection so please excuse the delay. Better late than never, riiiiight? This collection is all about ‘metallic oil slick’ looking polishes, per Zoya’s website. (source) Perfect for Spring!

Hit the jump to see up close swatches of each polish.

Adina was the color that many folx emailed me about. This color reminds me of a light purple marble. It is definitely the most unique in the bunch but I’m not too sure how I feel about it on my warm skin. Hmm….

Reece is totally awesome and although I have a polish like this in my collection (the name escapes me) I welcomed Reece with open arms. It is super pink with gold undertones. Loves it!

Happi is is like Reece’s little sister. The pink is taken down a few notches it’s actually wearable enough for me. I’m not the biggest fan of pink polishes (so blah and expected) but with that added shimmer…I could work it a bit.

Gwin is urnge as us folx in the South say. Urnge means extremely orange. Gwin actually has a lot of red in it too but mannnn, I LOVE how it looks!

Lana is like Gwin minus the orange. What is left is a ton of red but you still have that beautiful gold that radiates a mile away. Yikes! The application on my middle finger is no bueno.

Laney is a super metallic silver that I just love! I love silver polishes….especially when they are opaque after only one coat.

Not bad for a Spring collection, Zoya! Although I would have loved to see an unexpected color like green. A metallic green would have been awesome. Something on the lines of Zoya’s Midori which I still rock to this very day. I only applied two coats for each color, which is great! Oftentimes metallic polishes can be a hot streaky mess. I didn’t experience any problems with these babies though.

Which one is your favorite?

Buy these and more for $7/bottle at Zoya.com.

Amor de Lacquer: Orly’s Metal Chic Metallic Matte collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Okay, so can I do one more matte nail polish review? Pretty please? I really think you’ll like this one. And I promise it will be the last for a while. I don’t know if the trend is over or not but who cares? Orly has swept me away again. Check THIS out…

Glam Rock is a cool lookin’ cooper that is a little warmer than a penny. I love the way it looks matte. For some reason, I don’t think colors like this compliment my complexion when they are all shiny.

Iron Butterfly is another velvet-ty matte black. We’ve seen this before from Zoya’s Dovima. Iron Butterfly has more silver which makes it unique. And I love that name…Iron Butterfly. Hot!

Solid Gold is a matte gold. WOW! I’ve never been a fan of golds on my warm skin but this works!

Oh, Orly….how I love thee. I thought you stole my heart with your first matte collection. But nope…this one definitely trumps the predecessor. The consistency of these polishes remind me of Zoya’s Velvets and OPI’s Suedes. Think smooth and…velvet-y. Tiny silver specks give the “metallic” affect.

These polishes were a little thick and didn’t leave me wanting to apply a third coat. Not that I needed to as two coats seemed to be just fine.

I used two coats for each and didn’t have any application problems although Glam Rock did have some streaky issues.

Buy these and more for $3.19/bottle at TransDesign or anywhere Orly polishes are sold.

Are you sick of the matte trend yet?
