Amor de Lacquer: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Ohmigoodness…I can NOT believe I am just now reviewing OCC’s nail polishes. I’ve been eye-ing them for over a year now. I blame Scrangie. Do y’all follow her blog? My goodness…good ole’ Scrange will have you foaming at the mouth over her beautiful nail polish swatches.

And so when I went to The Makeup Show NYC this year, I made it my business to run over to OCC and get get myself acquainted with a few of the polishes.

You ready?

Wasabi

I have a thing for chartreuse polishes. They are just so striking to me. Wasabi is was a wee bit watery for me…hence the sinking of it in my cuticles. But it’s awesome nonetheless! I don’t have OPI’s Who The Shrek Are You, but I think that they may be dupes.

Anime

The pictures shown do known give Anime justice. It is a seriously bright neon pink. If I’m going to wear a pink on my nails, it needs to be loud and bright like this. Anime is sheer and it took a good 3 coats to reach some level of opacity.

Swamp Thing

Want to know the truth about Swamp Thing? I don’t really like it. It’s such a weird color and it just doesn’t compliment my skin well. I knew all of that before I got it. But it’s still slightly attractive to me in some way. I can’t explain it. It’s just so….weird. And here I am thinking I had never seen a color like this before until Yaya from My Own Judge reminds me that MAC’s Dirty Olive is a dead on dupe.

Er uh…she’s right!

Chalkboard

Shazaam! This looks like a fo real chalkboard. Remember those chalkboards back in the day? I was one of those kids that would have to clap the erasers after class. Don’t y’all judge me. I was a bit of a teacher’s pet. I LOVE this green. It’s a little watery though. Or maybe my application sucks. Not sure which one is true. Still a stunning green !

While Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is most known for their lip tars, I think their polishes deserve a bit of a look too. I found them to be a wee bit watery so they require small strokes at a time. I used 3 coats for each look and they wear pretty well too. You can snag them for $8 a bottle over at OCCMakeup.com. And yep…they are big 3 free!

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Sista Show-Off: OPI’s Gargantuan Green

Beautiful Bee-ing Me in the reader/fellow blogger photo showcase! It is in this series that you can show off your hair, fab new outfit or make-up look. Wanna show off your new hair cut? That lipstick you’ve been rocking for a month? Show off on Clumps!

Some time ago I convinced one of my girls to try a color outside of her comfort zone. My homie Cass was the one that introduced me to NYC’s Love Letters. And I’ve only seen her with different variations of that color. Say what?! Friends don’t let friends stick to the same boring colors. Every now and then you have to spice it up. Am I right or am I right?

Soooo, I forced asked Cass to try out O.P.I.’s Gargantuan Green.

Hotness, right? It looks like her nails are glowing. And she loved it. See…every now and then you have to switch it up.

Are you a same ole same ole nail polish gal or do you like to rock allll kinds of colors?

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Fortress Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar hits us again with one of those “OMG, how did they think of this?” kind of collections.

Yes, girl…you eyes aren’t playin’ with you. It’s a bunch of grays and blacks. Brace yourself!

Citadel is described as a pale gray creme. It applies flawlessly without any streaks.

Marble Tower is almost looks Citadel except it is more pale. See the boo-boo I made on my middle finger? Gotta be careful with those creams. They tend to drag down to the cuticles a bit.

Barricade is a light gray that reminds me of wet cement.

Stronghold is a darker gray that is unlike any other gray that I own. I don’t know what it is about grays but I just love them!

Palisade isn’t the most unique of the bunch to me. Still a flawless gray nonetheless!

Dark Castle is described as a charcoal black with a subtle silver shimmer. When the light hits that shimmer, it radiates something beautiful.

Silver Sword is the perfect addition to this collection. Great polish, Nubar! I’ve never been a fan of gunmetal polishes but somehow this one works.

Knight’s Armor  is definitely my favorite. How awesome is the silver glitter?

I LOVED this collection. I love the theme and I love that Nubar is hittin’ us with polishes that a lot of brands steer away from. I didn’t have any application problems with any of these polishes, aside from Marble Tower dragging to my cuticles. Citadel and Marble Tower seem to be so much alike and I would have loved to see a bit of glitter thrown in one of them. A pale gray cream with silver glitter would be hot!

Are you a fan of black and gray polishes?

You can buy the collection for $49.95 or purchase them individually for $7.49 here.

Sally Hansen’s Diamonds and Hidden Treasure

Happy Saturday, darlings!

I just HAD to tell you about the awesomeness that is Sally Hansen.

They’ve partnered with Brides Magazine and The Diamond Vault Collection and one lucky winner will win a custom diamond eternity band valued at $3,000, and a collection of Sally Hansen® wedding-worthy products, including Diamond Strength® Nail Color for brilliant nails and Diamond 12 Hour Lip Treatment for lavish lips and lasting moisture. The contest is here.

What an awesome gift for my brides or brides-to-be! And since we’re talkin’ about Lady SH, the beauty/nail blogosphere is going nuts over the polish Hidden Treasure.

The polish was released with the 2010 Tracey Reese Spring collection and it is like THEE hardest polish to find ever. In fact, I tweeted my whereabouts on Four Square. And was elated when I found Hidden Treasure!

Sally Hansen is buy 1, get 1 50% of this week so I snagged Thinking of Blue and layered the hard to find Hidden Treasure on top.

Is it not faint worthy or what? Brooke from Getcha Nails Did the BEST layering with this polish. And my girl Scrangie reviews the entire collection. If you’ve seen this polish anywhere, snag it with the quickness! But then again, it is rather hidden so good luck with that.

Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all of my Mommies!

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Risqué Reds collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Nubar really knows how to release collections that make your heard turn. I love how most of their collections have color or formula themes. We’ve seen a collection of greens, mattes, browns (mega rare and unique!) and glitters. When it comes to themed collections, Nubar raises the bar and takes it to a whole ‘notha level.

Now they are bringing us a collection of colors that goes back to home.

Reds!

Enchanting Red is nice. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a red like this but I can dig it.

Fiery Red is more up my alley. It’s one of those “Look at my red nails!” colors. Loves it!

Torrid Red is described as a dark red with pronounced shimmer. It’s not my favorite in the bunch but it’s an awesome fall color.

Seductive Red is a winner in my book. What a flawless magenta-esque red. I love it! Even if it did drag on the cuticles a bit.

Sultry Red is another polish that drags to the cuticles. The formula is a wee bit watery on this baby. Still a nice subdued fire engine red with shimmer.

Sensual Red is my favorite because it is a stunning cream and applied beautifully.

Cabaret Red and Lustful Red are missing but not because I didn’t swatch them but because I got all mixed up when I organized this post. I couldn’t remember which polish was which! It frustrated me to no end. I mean, look at this…

These polishes look so much alike. Sure, one has more magenta in it than the other, but they are so close in color. I would have liked to see red glitter for layering. While I like this collection, I don’t think that all 8 of the polishes are must haves. A good one or two should be just fine.

I did have a few application problems with some of these babies. Some were a little watery; hence the dragging on the cuticles. While it’s not my favorite Nubar collection, I still give mad props to the company for releasing another cool themed collection.

You can buy the collection for $49.95 or purchase them individually for $7.49 here.

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Flash Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Yay for more creams! This is the perfect Spring time collection…especially those new to nail polishes. Most of these polishes are dupe-able meaning you can find colors by Zoya and in other brands. The good news is that these are all stunning! The bad news is…I’m missing one. Dana arrived me to cracked and left her remnants all over her fellow sisters. No bueno.  But the other kids look hot!

Robyn

Now this is one blue that rocks my world. It was a wee bit streaky with initial application. A good two coats should set it straight. It almost reminds me of Zoya’s Yummy except it is a tad bit darker.

Perrie

Look! It’s Zoya Malia’s twin. Lavender purple creams are just delish, aren’t they?

Jolene

I am currently wearing this baby on my toes. It’s a little safe for me but it is streak-proof and perfect for Spring!

Maura

Maura is kind of like Zoya’s America. Which is another striking red; which of course is a total staple in every girl’s polish collection.

Jancyn

Love it! It reminds me of an orange float. I want to lick my fingers every time I wear this color. It looks so tasty on my nails!

Great collection, Zoya! I do think that most of these colors have twins but if you are new to Zoya or don’t have any colors like this, get them! I used 2 coats for each and if you experience any streakiness, try applying a base coat before applying the colors. These babies are $7 each and you can get them here.

Which one is your favorite?

Buy these and more for $7/bottle at Zoya.com.

Amor de Lacquer: Orly’s Foil FX and Sweet Collections

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

“I was walking along, minding my business,
When out of an orange-colored sky,
Flash! Bam! Alakazam!
Wonderful you came by.”

I grew up on Nat King Cole and one of my favorite songs by him is “Orange Colored Sky”. I swear I started singing it when I first saw Orly’s Foil FX collection.

I know what you’re thinking. Something is missing right? Yep! I snagged 2 of Foil FX’s 3 polishes and 1 of 6 from the Sweet collection. I can explain. Watch this!

The color missing from the Foil FX collection is Rage; a rusty rose foil. It didn’t tickle my fancy so I passed on it. What was left from the collection were these two wonders.

Shine is amazing! This polish is seriously a must have. This is the foil-est polish I own. I got so many compliments when I wore it. While nothing can compare to getting your nails Minx-ed with silver foil, Shine ain’t too far behind.

Luxe is GOLD! Really really gold. It isn’t as bling-y as I wanted it to be but it is still a great foil. I’m not a fan of most gold polishes but this has enough shine power to keep me happy.

The formula on the Foil FX polishes are impeccable. You can get complete coverage in a good 2 coats. I did 3 on these, though…just because I like to push it to the limit. Enormous fan of this collection, Orly!

Now of the 6 polishes in Orly’s Sweet collection, Snowcone was the only one that I really wanted. The other 5 were quite tempting but not terribly unique.

Snowcone is a blue yummy-lusciousness! Now that I’m looking at it, it may a dupe to Zoya’s Yummy.

I did have an incentive for buying this though. Each of the polishes in this collection come with a gloss.
I put mine on my keychain!

It’s a clear gloss but is surprisingly moisturizing and perfect for on the go.

That’s the thing about Orly. There are such a unique polish company. You’ve got the rubberized handles, cool polish names and you never know what cute little knick-knack you’re going to get with your polish.

I got these from Head2ToeBeauty.com for $3.50 a bottle.

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics Spring 2010 collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

La la la la laaaaah! Spring is in the air. At least it is here in Florida. For my ladies who are still in areas where it is a tad bit chilly, sometimes wearing Spring colors brings on Spring-like attitude.

Wait…does that make sense? No? Okay…well, let’s just check on Diamond Cosmetics’ Spring collection!

Angelic

Razzmatazz is described as a dainty pink. It has pink and purple shimmer and is the quintessential Spring color. I like it!

Orange Blush

What a yummy orange! It almost reminds me of an orange pop. It’s a cream with a jelly finish that applies beautifully.

Hot Lips

Total hotness, right?  This almost neon magenta are my favorite kind of red-esque colors. They are loud and perfect pedicure colors. This is totally off topic but I would love a lipstick this color too!

Tranquility

We’ve got a winner! What a gorgeous blue cream.
Gypsy Pink

It’s a color we’ve seen before but this soft red with white/pink shimmer is just screaming to be konad-ed or topped off with some design.

Serendipity

I can’t remember if I have a color like this or not. It is rather reminiscent of another color in time and for that reason, I love it. Everyone needs a pale blue-grey shimmer polish in their collection.

It’s another great collection from Diamond Cosmetics! I applied 2 coats for each polish and didn’t have any problems. Like with most creams, Tranquility dragged at the cuticles a bit. But is it not worth the out coming?

Hit the image below to snag the entire collection for only $25!
