100th Mascara Giveaway Week: Rimmel Lash Accelerator

It’s a great time at Clumps of Mascara, y’all. With celebrating 3 years in June, expanding my readership and blogging from a new platform (WordPress, holla!), I’ve been super excited with what Clumps of Mascara represents. In addition to being a blog that features and supports others ladies, gives you silly (but informative) product reviews and attempts to let brown girls know how beautiful they are, we are also the largest mascara review archive on the net. Yeahhhh boi! :)

Last week made the 100th mascara review and you know what that means…

Giveaways, of course! Be sure to check the rules as some will only last for a few hours. Others are for Facebook or Twitter users only. And some are just for Clumps of Mascara subscribers.

Last week I reviewed Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator. Which I absolutely LOVED! I am still rockin’ it as we speak. 5 lucky Clumps of Mascara readers will get a chance to snag this mascara. Hit the jump to get the deets on how to win.

Mascara Monday (The 100th): Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara

Some little girls want to be ballerinas when they grow up. Others CEO’s, veterinarians, award winner authors, scientists and fashion designers. And some…mascara reviewers. Granted I wasn’t a 7-year old desiring to review 100 mascaras but alas, here I am. Debuting Clumps of Mascara’s 100th mascara review.

I’ll save my Oprah-like speech for the week-long celebration (with giveaways galore). In the meantime…check this kid out:

Mascara Monday: Rimmel The Max Bold Curves mascara

Rimmel managed to sneak another one of their mascaras on the beauty shelves. I almost missed this one! I’m so used to seeing commercials of their newest mascaras but didn’t see any of this one. Then again, I only watch a good 2 hours of television a week. Hahahaa!!

Rimmel very rarely disappoints me in the mascara department. How did they do this go round?

Rimmel The Max Bold Curves
Price: 5 out of 5 (I got it for $5.99 at Target. It was on sale. Holla!)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 2 out of 5

What it claims:
Per the packaging…

The truth: Am I the only one that would assume that this is a curl mascara? I mean…it IS called “The Max Bold CURVES”. But nope…it’s a volume and lifting mascara.
What I loved about it: It does just okay with one coat. If you’re not a fan of buildable mascaras and just want to apply one coat and be out, this one may work for you.
What I didn’t like: This needs very little explanation. If any..

I’m just SO over seeing mascaras do this. It’s starting to frustrate me to no end. WHY do these companies continually do this? I think everyone should take the Belvada mascara approach because mascara poop is really irkin’ a sista’s nerves yo. I won’t fault Rimmel solely for this as I’ve seen the same issues with Revlon, L’Oreal and Maybelline mascaras too. Still…it makes mascara application challenging; especially if you’re trying to get in the inner corners of the eyes. Not to mention it is a total waste of product. Boo!

Overall: The wand isn’t the best as I find it too large to actually work with. And then there’s the “curvy-ness” of it. I never understand why brands do that as everyone’s lashes and eye shapes are different. I don’t feel like the shape of the wand in this instance helped me achieve greater volume or lifting. My little trick for lifting the lashes? Doing this…

…and holding it for a good 30 seconds or so.

I don’t think I really like the formula of this one. One coat is just so so but two coats is a nightmare. The formula seems to be so thick and goopy. If goopy is a word. :) It has troubles staying put throughout the day and will flake right on your fingers if you gently wipe your lashes.

Would I recommend it?: Not at all. Which makes me sad because I usually like Rimmel mascaras. I think they have better ones than this one though. No me gusta.

Mascara Monday: Rimmel Lash Maxxx mascara

If I had to say which brand of mascaras I get the most requests for…it’s Rimmel! Here’s another kid to add to the family…

Rimmel Lash Maxxx

I spy with my brown eye a mascara wand with a comb. WOOOO!!! But was it good or a bust?

Price: 5 out of 5 (I got it for about $5.69 at Target)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims:
Per the packaging…

The truth: I’m just loving that it’s a comb!

What I loved about it: The comb, of course. I LOVED Maybelline’s Lash Stylist and almost died a thousand deaths when I found it was discontinued. Rimmel brought me back to life with this wand.

What I didn’t like: It doesn’t provide a lot of volume or length, but then again, I don’t think it’s supposed to.

Overall: Reading is fundamental. Seriously! If you notice the packaging of this mascara, it said nothing about volumizing or lengthening. This mascara is designed to separate your lashes. One lash is supposed to look like three lashes. It’s all about multiplying, baby! Does Lash Maxx do this? Absolutely!

It really only takes one coat of this mascara to do the job. I found that it REALLY clumps with a second or third coat. Lash Maxxx is great for training the lashes to go in a certain direction. If you’re like me and have lashes that go in allll directions, one coat of Lash Maxx is great at thoroughly coming through the lashes. So to my ladies that have lashes that go straight down, this may be a great mascara for you.

I had to zoom in just to show you how serious the separation is.

Would I recommend it?: Sure! Especially if your lashes go alllll over.

A crazed mascara reviewer,

Mascara Monday: Rimmel The Max Volume Flash mascara

Rimmel’s The Max Volume Flash is the winner of the “What mascara should I review next?” poll. A good 362 of y’all voted and 125 folx (about 34%) said they wanted to see what Rimmel’s newest had to offer in all of its hot pink goodness.

Your wish is my command!

Peep the review…

Rimmel “The Max” Volume Flash

Price: 5 out of 5 (around $5.00 at Walgreens )

Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: ….from the packaging.

The truth:
The wand almost scared me but the truth is…it didn’t! It breezed right through my lashes.

What I loved about it: It gave me some good length AND volume.

What I didn’t like: Hmm…what’s not like to like?

Overall: I have reviewed and been impressed with other Rimmel mascaras. Rimmel ‘Glam Eyes Lash Flirt received a 5. Have you seen the wand on that thing? Amazing! Then there’s Sexy Curves and the regular ‘Glam Eyes. All of which have high ratings. So needless to say, I am a fan of Rimmel’s mascaras. Let’s talk about what I love most about them…

Their wands!

The Max Volume Flash has a pretty large wand that can be intimidating at first glance. See…

But it has characteristics that puts other large wands to shame. The bristles are stiff enough to glide through your lashes. And although the photos don’t show it, the bristles somewhat flatten out toward the end. Maybe this photo will give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.

See it now? I love this little detail! If you have smaller lashes/lids and have issues with larger wands, The Max Volume Flash allows for you to press up against your lashes comfortably. The only issue with that is you may end up with mascara on your lid. But the volume you get is worth it. In the video I talk about how to can make for easy clean up when that happens.

I did experience clumps with added coats but when I stuck with a good two coats….I was fine. The lengthening factor is pretty dope too which was a nice little surprise since this is supposed to be a volumizing mascara.

No smudging or flaking but then again that has never been an issue for Rimmel mascaras. What can I say? They are simply one of the best drugstore mascaras I have ever used.

Would I recommend it?: Oh yeah….cheap AND it works? Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Have you tried Rimmel’s newest yet? What do you think?

A crazed mascara reviewer,

Mascara Monday: Rimmel Glam’ Eyes Lash Flirt mascara

I love mascara requests.

I mean….they literally light up my inbox. While quite a bit of you have been requesting throwback mascaras, this week I got a ton of requests for Rimmel’s newest. Which is interesting because I wasn’t even going to review it! But the people have spoken so here it is…..

Rimmel Glam’Eyes
Lash Flirt mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (I got it for $7.29 at CVS)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: Check out the packaging!

The truth:
Okay….so 80% is a dramatic claim but it ain’t too shabby.

What I loved about it: The wand is pretty amazing. The bristles are GREAT for separating. Especially if you have those crazy tangled lashes like I do. They are stiff and thin enough to get through the lashes. But I don’t like about the wand is that it is a little too “wobbly”. Flexible=good. Bo-yoing-yoing factor? Not so much? But it doesn’t cause TOO much of a problem.

What I didn’t like: I would have liked some more volume. Especially since that’s what the mascara said it’s going to do. To make up for the volume….I got insane length.

Overall: I reviewed the original Glam Eyes here. What I am finding with the Rimmel mascaras that I review is that they ALL give me what I’m NOT looking for. Which I suppose is better than it giving me nothing at all. This Lash Flirt is pretty darn good. It really gets your lashes out there and guess what? It’s build-able! Go ‘head and apply a 3rd coat. Or a 4th coat if you’re a rebel. You won’t get crazy ‘clumps of mascara’…haha. I did experience smudging (watch the video to see what I mean) but then again that could be my own clumsiness.

Look! Twins! Haha!

Would I recommend it?: Sure! Why not? Give it a whirl! Besides….the packaging is crazy cute.

Has anyone tried this mascara yet?
Interested? Not so much? Whatcha think?

A crazed mascara reviewer,

Mascara Monday: Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara

Happy Monday, family! I hope that you all had spectacular weekends! I would like to thank you all again for your support of Amor de Lacquer week. I thought it was a huge success? What do you think? I’d love to get your feeedback on the poll on the main page of the blog.

OH….and I tell you that there is an official archive for ALL of the mascaras that I have reviewed? The MASCARA BIN tab is also on the main page of Clumps. All mascara reviews will end up there and per the request of readers, I have organized it by rating.

Where will Rimmel Sexy Curves end up? Hmmmm…..

Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (around $7 from Wal-greens )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “Lashes look up to 70% curlier with voluptous volume(per packaging)

The truth:
Volume? Not so much. Curl? Okay…..not too bad.

What I loved about it:
Despite it looking a little strange, I actually really like the brush.

What I didn’t like:
Grrr, it didn’t give me the dramatic level of volume I was looking for. I know that most curling mascaras don’t provide a good amount of volume but this one said that it would so….*pouts*…I’m sad.

Overall: If I could give an award to the “Most Passed By Mascara”, I would give it to Rimmel’s Sexy Curves. I have been eye-ing this mascara for months! But for some reason….I never bit the bullet and gave it a try. Until now.

First, let’s talk about the wand.

Rimmel calls this their “triple plump brush” and that it “curves in for volume and curves out for maximum curl.” Um. Okay. I’m not sure what that means and they don’t exactly provide directions for it so I used this wand the same way I would use any other.

Well…I like it! It makes for decent application with minimal strain. I don’t really understand WHY it is made that way but it doesn’t give me any problems, so a sista ain’t complainin’!

In terms of the mascara’s performance….it’ s good! It gave me A LOT of curl. I found that by bringing the lashes up from root to tip and holding it for a few seconds, I got a better hold. Sometimes I feel like curling mascaras should have some kind of spritz in them–just so that they can hold that curl. Not sure how eye-safe that would be but it’s a thought, hmmmm?

So yes, Sexy Curves gave me that curl. It didn’t hold up as much as I would have liked it but such is the case with most curling mascaras. To get the maximum amount of curl I would suggest curling your lashes with an eyelash curler prior to application.

Lashes without mascara
(DID curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Sure. But only if you are okay with curling your lashes first. However, if you have bone straight lashes and eyelash curlers don’t work too well for you, this mascara may not work.

Have you tried this mascara yet? What do you think?

I have also reviewed Rimmel’s Glam Eyes mascara.

Enjoy your Monday, family!

Always,

Mascara Monday: Rimmel Glam ‘Eyes mascara

Happy Monday, people! Can yall believe that on Saturday it was a 75 degrees here in Orlando, Florida? I know some of you are shooting me cyber birds but I am finding it so hard to get into the holiday spirit while blasting my air conditioning. Would I like 4 feet of snow? Noooo. But can a sista pull out the knee high boots? Obviously not!

I want to send mad love to the 89 of you who voted for this Mascara Monday’s mascara. Rimmel’s Glam ‘Eyes won by a landslide. Which I am grateful for because I would have been crying had yall voted for that $38 Lancome Oscillation. *wipes freshly threaded brows* Let’s bring on the review!

Rimmel Glam’Eyes Mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 ($7.29 from Ulta)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “Seductive Volume. Turn heads. New VolumFlex Brush styles lashes for sensational volume and instant separation. Ultra supple elasto-bristles groom each lash, lacquering them from root to tip for a spectacular 7 x more lash intensity. Big Lash Seduction. High Definition. Maximum lash impact. Impeccable definition. Smoothing formula glides through lashes, wrapping each one for ultimate volume yet perfect separation. Lashes look dramatically amplified yet sleekly defined – even up close and personal!”

The truth: Could it be? Am I getting a little curl factor? Heyyyyy!

What I loved about it:
I’m amazed at how this mascara gave me a little curl. Now it could be my imagination. Or perhaps my lashes were already curled from the previous days’ pumps of a eyelash curler. But…I think Glam ‘Eyes did more than give me a little volume and I was excited about it! I’m diggin’ the wand too. Nothing too fancy but it was sturdy and the bristles were long enough to get my lashes without me darn-near poking my eye out.

What I didn’t like: Well, I wasn’t too WOWed by this mascara at first. As I mentioned in the video, I haven’t heard much about it. In fact, if it weren’t for ClumpsOfMascara.com readers and their requests, I probably would have never considered this mascara for review. I guess that’s not a reason to NOT like it so let’s move on..LOL!

Overall: I would say that Glam ‘Eyes does a pretty darn good job as far as volumizing mascaras go. Is it super duper OMG “this is it!” amazing? Nah, I wouldn’t say that. But it’s pretty good. I found it to be light on my lashes and build-able. Even after 3 coats, I didn’t have the “too much mascara on” look and I didn’t endure any flakes either. As I mentioned earlier, I really do think that this mascara gave me some curl…You can see for yourself in the video.

Lashes with NO mascara

Lashes with TWO coats

Would I recommend it?: Yep! I think you volume-seekin’ folx out there would enjoy Glam Eyes. Now be honest….do yall see some curl in my lashes? I do think so!!
