My Sally Hansen Pamper Party!

Well my loves, I had a fabulous Pamper Party + going away party for my good friend Su and I had it all documented via photos until, guess what? My camera decided to do some crazy stuff and I ended up with only TWO pictures of the almost 20+ that I took. My heart is broken but luckily my girl Nidia let me borrow some of her pictures. So…yeah.

DSC_0933

Nidia, Su and I got gathered at a swanky hotel downtown where I chatted to them about Sally Hansen®’s newest nail polish. Have you heard about it? I’ve purchased several bottles of these already and when I got the opportunity to host a party with some gal pals to share my love of this newest line, well, I couldn’t pass it down. Baby Toddler Clumps came with me and was such a sweet girl coloring while Mama “worked”.

Sally Hansen® Miracle Gel™ promises to give you long-lasting nail color and shine for up to 14 days. The formula makes it so that you don’t even need to use a lamp. This alone is a home run for me because that means I don’t have to spend any extra time or money sitting at a salon every few weeks. There aren’t any tricks to applying this either. It applies  like a traditional nail polish and only has 2 steps.

Step 1: Apply Gel Color
Step 2: Apply Gel Top Coat

That’s it, girlfriend. No UV/LED light needed, no having to wait an hour for  1 coat to dry. None of that. This stuff is practically made for women like me who want lovely nails but don’t want to invest a ton of time in achieving them.

I love how the line has ton of different colors to fit just about everyone’s style and personality. Su loved B Girl, Nidia rocked Mad Woman but really my favorite of the collection is the burgundy goodness that is Wine Stock.

Sally Hansen

I rocked that with some of those Sally Hansen nail strips some months ago and I’m thinking about recreating that look because I LOVED it. Now in terms of longevity, I’m going to keep it real with you gals…these won’t last for 14 days. At around 8 days, I noticed both Mad Woman and Wine Stock chipping on me.

Sally Hansen

My belief is that no gel nail polish (that doesn’t require a light for hardening, that is) can last for 14 days. And this is coming from someone who cleans the house and washes dishes wearing gloves. Still, getting a good week out of nail polish from a drugstore brand is practically unheard of so I think these are stellar.

Also, the polishes don’t dry that quickly. Nidia noted that after applying her top coat, she managed to bump her nails after about an hour of application and smudged the polish. Womp. Still, I am finding these polishes are so so practical for gals who like to go some days (and maybe a week) in between applying nail polish. The shine seriously doesn’t budge, and that my girls, is awesome in itself.

Have you tried these polishes yet? Oh! But wait…Sally Hansen® has an incredible sweepstakes going on right now. My Instagram girls will love this one because all you have to do is snap a look of your current mani and you have the chance of winning the top 10 Sally Hansen® Miracle Gel™ polishes. Weee!

CVS Beauty Fashion Week challenge + win a $50 gift card!

DSC_6353

Sooooo another Fashion Week has zoomed right on by and with her she dumped a ton of beauty trends that have beauty-obsesesd folx like myeslf going gaga.

Like last season, I’ve been trying to see if I can comfortably mimic some of those trends without lookin’, ya know, too cray cray. Aaaaand with the help of CVS/pharmacy, I think I can do it. If it turns out a total disaster, at least I’ll be covered with CVS/pharmacy’s 60-day Beauty Guarantee.

Trend #1:
Strong brows.

DSC_6329

DSC_6333

Considering I was born with massive brows, I’d say that I’ve been rockin’ this trend for a good 28 years now. For serious. Big brows are back and if you’re like me and yours need constant defining, check out Maybelline’s Eye Studio Master Shape brow pencil ($7.99). Even a newb like me can fill in those sparse areas with ease. But remember – less is more.

Trend #2
Insanely bold lip colors.

2013-02-19

Yas! Y’all know I love to rock a bold lip and will do so no matter what the season is. Maybelline’s Color Sensational Vivids lipsticks are freaking ah-mazing. I’ll be reviewing them but in the meantime, how awesome is Vivid Rose? I scooped her up for $7.39 and got Neon Red for $3.69.

DSC_6320

Hollerssss. It’s easy to hoard these because every shade is super pigmented and goooorgeous.

Trend #3
Blue eyeshadow

DSC_6337

Say whaaaat? I didn’t see this one coming. I don’t have anything against blue eyeshadow. I just don’t wear it often. This trend has me being a bit more creative when doing my makeup in the morning. I’ve been trying to find ways to comfortably wear blue. I’m lovin’ this L’Oreal Colour Riche eyeshadow palette.

DSC_6342

Not bad for under $8.

Trend #4
White/neutral nail polish shades

DSC_6335

I love white nail polish. Like, luuuuurve. I just don’t wear it often because they can be a bit of a pain to apply. But if you find a good one like Sally Hansen’s Sheer Bliss ($7.79), you better rock it, sister.

Thanks to these affordable products, I hit 4 trends and stayed under $50. But remember, for every $50 spent on beauty at CVS/pharmacy, you get $5 in ExtraBucks Rewards!

Sally Hansen Gel Manicure Starter Kit

My poor nails. They look a hot mess dot com. I’m not apologetic about it either because you it beez that way sometimes. A few days after Elle was born I cut off all of my nails, removed the nail polish and haven’t really had the chance to do any nail pampering. Which kinda makes me sad but dude, baby girl requires lots of time.

Buuuut, I had a little help with my Mom and sister and since I’d rather not waste a good product like this gel manicure starter kit on my nubs, I figured my sister would be a fantastic model.

DSC_5809

Have y’all seen these in stores yet? Sally Hansen released these back in November 2012 and nail polish lovers have been goin’ crazy. These kits come at a good time. You know, with the whole gel nail thing sweeping the nail world.

DSC_5810

Priced at $69.99, you would think this kit is like ridiculously expensive, but nah…it works out to be priced well. Think about it: a gel  manicure generally starts at a good $25 but with this, you can do TEN manicures and Sally Hansen says that they’ll last 2 weeks at a time. Not bad, dude. Not bad at all.

What comes in the set…

•Cleanser Pads
• Base Coat
• Color (choice of three shades)
• Top Coat
• Remover
• LED Light
• Application Accessories: Cuticle stick, buffer and alcohol cleaning pad

As of now the sets come in 3 different colors. I’m hopin’ they will sell the gel nail colors individually. 3 colors is a great start but I’d be more likely to use this regularly if I had a good 20+ nail polish colors to choose from.

The best thing about the kit – the fact that it comes with a LED light.

DSC_5821

These things can be pretty pricey alone so it’s great that it comes with the kit. Plus, you can use it over and over again with all gel nail polishes. Instructions are easy peasy too…

DSC_5824

The key is to apply thin coats of each polish. A thicker coat may result in the gel polishes lifting in a matter of days.

My sister’s nails before:

DSC_5829

Her nails after:

DSC_5832

Impressive, right? The shine is impeccable and while I didn’t apply the polish as perfectly as I would have liked to, the outcome was still nice. 3-4 days later and her nails are still shiny with minimal chipping. 2 of  the gel nails ended up completely coming off but we think that may be attributed to poor application. Still. Not bad at all.

While not ideal for crazy polish fanatics like me, these are great for guys and gals who don’t want to do their nails all the time. I can’t wait to try this out on my toes. While I’ll polish my nails regularly, I don’t even want to tell you how often I change my toe nail polish. HA!

Price: $69.99 or less
Availability: Drugstores, Target and Walmart. I see it for $64 at Walmart.com.

Whatcha think? Are you a gel nail lover or would you rather rock traditional nail polish?

Pretty Polishes: Sally Hansen Smooth + Perfect polishes

Lately I’ve been letting my nails breathe a bit. It’s a necessity for gals like me who polish her nails at least 5-7 times a week. My poor nails take a beating. Not as bad as they were when I was wearing acrylic and gel nails (never again, yo) but I believe in going nail polish free often so that my nails can continue to be strong.

Of course that period of time really only lasts like 3 days. Ha! I can’t help! I love nail polish. Usually when I come off of a nail polish detox, I like start off with softer shades. You know…instead of jumping into the crazy bright neons and glitters. Sally Hansen’s Smooth and Perfect Color Care polishes are perfect for this…

Here’s what Sally Hansen says…

“These polishes are designed to hide ridges and imperfections. They have a uniquely breathable formula promotes stronger, healthier looking nails with a patented technology that allows for up to 20% more oxygen to reach the nail. Ridges and imperfections are virtually erased and nails are left looking smooth, shiny and porcelain perfect.”

Niiiiice. These shades are all sheer, dainty and perfect for when you want to give your nails a break from all of the hardcore colors and finishes.

Sea is a light pistachio that I didn’t think I’d like but I really do. Aside from being very work-appropriate, this color will also look beautiful with some nail art on top.

Sorbet is so creamy and wonderful! Please excuse the bubbling on the pointer finger. This faint peach is so refreshing. Plus it reminds me of my paternal Grandma for some reason. :)

Dune appears to be a beige with just a touch of shimmer in it. The other polishes were creamy but I noticed a few lines of an opal finish in this one.

I used 3 coats for each of these and the best thing about ‘em is they aren’t streaky! It’s almost impossible to find polishes this faint that aren’t streaky. Sally Hansen has 5 more polishes similar to these and you can snag ‘em at drugstores nationwide for about $5.49. Oh! And you can also get them online at Drugstore.com.

Are you a fan of fairer shades or would you rather go bold or go home?

Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips in Wish Nets

Ooooh, how pretty!

I first reviewed Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips here and this is my first time playing around with them again. The Wish Nets design is one of 5 limited edition Halloween designs.

I forgot how tricky these kids can be. Then again I do have extra long and wide nail beds. Still. I love how this looks.

You can find these at your local drugstore. Or you can get them from Ulta.com for $9.99. Snag ‘em quickly though. They are limited edition and won’t be around for long.

Have you tried these nail strips yet?

Amor de Lacquer: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri jewel toned polishes

I absolutely loved this collection from Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. My living room and bedroom follow a similar color palette with the jewel toned burgundies and golds, and this collection was totally up my alley. Like most of Sally Hansen’s nail products, these are difficult to find. But if you do manage to spot them at your local drugstore, don’t think twice about gettin’ them. I don’t think these will be around for long.

Quick Brick is a jewel toned burgundy and hands down one of my favorite polishes ever. This is absolutely stunning on nails. It looks like sparkling garnet jewels. Just gorge!

Teal-y Fast is fabulousity in a bottle. If you are a teal lover, this is a polish that you HAVE to have.

Bronze Ablaze is just what the name says. A bronze. It looks interesting on my skin complexion.

Presto Pewter is a silver that you’ve probably seen before. I can never get enough silver polishes though.

Cocoa A-Go-Go reminds me of a hair color that I once had. It has sparkles of gold and bronze. Without those sparkles, it would probably be a milk chocolate brown but the sparkles give it lots of personality.

Ruby Rush is my second favorite. It’s a stunning shade that has neon magenta sparkles that is overshadowed by its dark base.

Grapescape is such a beautiful purple. I’ve never been a fan of purple but shades like this make me change my mind. And my poor camera. It was having a hard time capturing the essence of this purple. It is rich and deep and while it looks dark in the bottle, it looks phenomenally purple on the nails.

I used only 2 coats for each polish. The formula on these are fantastic. In fact, you could probably get away with only one coat. Wear time is always good for Insta-Dri. And since I’ve got those long and wide nail beds, the large brush (similar to OPI’s Pro Wide brush) is perfect for me. You can get these for under $8 anywhere Sally Hansen nail polishes are sold.

See any you like?

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes

We all know how much I love Sally Hansen, right? Remember that time I questioned if she was even a real person? Yeah. Who knows? And who cares. All I know is Sal Han better keep on keepin’ on because she rocks in every single way. Take these Xtreme Nails polishes for example.

 alt=

Let’s talk about the awesomeness of these guys, shall we? First up are the sheer stars. I didn’t bother to swatch these on my nails because, well…they are super sheer. They make for fantastic layering but don’t do much on their own.
(l-r) Teal-y Cool, Set the Stage, Twinkle Twinkle

Next up on the “Pretty Sheer” list would be Pink-y Ring. A neon pink glitter that looks like it shoooould reach an opaque finish but falls short. I applied 3 coats here.

And then there’s Pumpkin Spice. If this shade doesn’t have to ready for Halloween, I don’t know what will.

The following three polishes are a lot more opaque with stunning foil-y finishes. There’s Teeny Greeny Bikini…who was smudged right in the middle of this photoshoot.

Time to Shine falls between a gold and silver polish. It’s the perfect blend of both colors.

Midnight Sky is by far my favorite of the bunch. Oh la la laaaa…

Which polish is your fav? Wait…I won’t make you choose, girlfriend. But what you should do is snag some of these if you’re lookin’ to add some spice to your nail polish collection. I mean, honestly…they’re only $3 a pop. Three cheers for recession-proof beauty! To be so affordable, I find this line of Sally Hansen polishes to be one of my favorites. The color selection is always exciting and the formula can’t be beat. Ooooh yeahhhh. 8)

This balm is THEE bomb. 3 cheers for Sally Hansen’s Vita-A Lip Line smoother!

Sally Hansen continues to bring me joy. Who is this woman? I must meet her. What if she’s just a brand and not a person? No no. I won’t think like that. Sally Sally Bo Bally is a real person. Just like Hello Kitty and Santa Claus.

But anywhoovers, my gal Sal recently released these funky looking lip balms that I just had to share with y’all.

I know, right? I made the same look when I first saw them! I was so in love with the packaging. Then again, I love when beauty goodies come in see-thru packages.

What in the world is that? It’s Vita-A-Lip Line Smoothers. According to Sally Hansen, these are supposed to help reduce the look of lines. It includes pomegranate and acai to help keep the moisture in the lippies. I can’t say much about the line-reducing thing because I don’t have lines around my lips. *knocks on wood*  These balms are smooth and feel very nice on the lips. They’ve got a bit of a peachy flavor. They don’t taste like Georgia peaches but they also don’t taste like dirt either and that’s always a good attribute to have in a lip balm.

I find that they work really well under lipsticks. You know…because lipsticks can be SO drying. Do they work well on their own? Meh. I didn’t find them to be exceptional. They did well. I couldn’t get much wear time out of them. Then again, I drink A LOT of water throughout the day and most lip products don’t stay on for me through sips.

Careful when applying though. If you bring the balm up too far to apply, you may break it off. Not that I know from experience. Okay, I’m lying. So I broke off one of the sticks. I’d like to say that this isn’t my fault. It can happen to anyone. Never mind that it happened in this video.

So yeah, if you’re in the market for a cool lookin’, sweet smellin’ cheap-y balm, this is a great one. It’s only $4.99 and you can snag it in drugstores.

Have y’all seen these in stores yet?
