Mascara Monday: Maybelline Full ‘N Soft

I have finally gotten around to reviewing one of THEE most commonly requested mascaras. And I “think” this completes my reviews of ALL Maybelline mascaras currently in stores. Well, except Lash Discovery and Unstoppable. What do you think? Should I review those?

Maybelline Full ‘N Soft

Price: 5 out of 5 (around $7.99 )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “This mascara builds full, soft thick lashes without the brittle feel.

* Prevents loss of lashes with patented Quick Dissolve System that allows easy mascara removal
* No clumps, no globs
* Contact lens safe and hypoallergenic
* Washable; also available in waterproof formula ” (source)

The truth:
Whoa! My lashes really are soft!

What I loved about it: I don’t know why–but I was shocked that my lashes actually stayed soft the entire day. Talk about upholding your claim, Maybelline. That’s friggin’ awesome!

What I didn’t like: Soft….YAY! Full….eh. And the wand is a big boy!

Overall: So I can see why so many of you requested this mascara. It probably stared you down. While you were glancing at the newer mascaras on the market, Mr. Full ‘N Soft was like,
“Hey!! Check me out….I’m old but I’m gold, baby.”

I know I’m not the only one that hears mascaras talking to them.

LOL, I’m kidding y’all. Kinda.

But yeah…Maybelline Full ‘N Soft is not bad. I will say that it isn’t GREAT for me because I desire darker lashes with more volume but this baby is perfect for everyday looks. If I happen to head to the gym after work, I don’t have to worry about it smudging and flaking. You’ll get some length. But not much. I like to think of this mascara as more of a “lash enhancer” if anything. If your lashes are already crazy long and full (then I hate you….lol, j/k) this would be perfect for you!

I should also mention that because it’s soft you don’t have to worry about any flaking. Most mascaras make your lashes hard. When they are hard and brittle you risk them [lashes] breaking and mascara residue falling in your eyes. Eww is right!!

Contact wearer or an allergic sufferer who is always eye-rubbing? Maybelline Full ‘N Soft would work for you too!!

FOTD Friday: The Graduate look

This FOTD Friday is a response to a reader’s email. Check it out!

Dear B,
Hi! so i really love ur blog and love that you do realize that not everyone is good with makeup just yet. i’m one of those people. i am graduating from college in december and i’m excited! i know it’s early but i am thinking about makeup looks that i want to do for the ceremony and reception afterwards. i’ve been playing around with MAC pigments and would like to use some. what kind of look do you suggest? thanks!

Soon 2 B graduate in North Carolina.

Ahhh, this brings back memories. I graduated from college around this time 2 years ago. See!

That was a chubbier B but you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t cute! I remember trying to decide what look I was going to wear. I settled on MAC’s Woodwinked on the lid and MAC’s Sketch in my crease. Can’t believe I remember that.

Oh the memories…

But back to you, Dear reader. I only own 3 full size pigments. Melon, Coco Beach and Vanilla.

And I’ve had these for the longest! I never take the time to use pigments but I do think that these three used together can make for a pretty nice and subtle graduation look. Melon gives you some added shimmer but it isn’t too overwhelming but it will make you shine like the student star that you are!

FACE:
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45

EYES:
-Too Faced Shadow Insurance
-L’Oreal HIP cream shadow paint in Witty
-MAC Melon pigment (lid)
-MAC Coco Beach pigment (crease)
-MAC Vanilla pigment (highlight)\
-Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Zero
-MAC Blacktrack fluidline

LIPS:
-MAC Nightmoth lip liner
-MAC Hot ‘N Saucy tendertone

That lip combo has popped up in a great deal of my FOTDS because ohhh weee, I love it. Balms are great because they keep your lips moisturized without having to re-apply. Graduations can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and with all of the excitement going on, you really don’t have the time to keep re-applying glosses.

So here’s how it came out:

Not too shabby! So if pigments for your graduation look is where you really want to go, I suggest those three. Congrats again, lady!!

Anyone recommend any slammin’ graduation looks?

Do you remember what you wore for your high school or college graduation?

And happy weekend to all!

*hugs*

Stay beautiful,

Beauty Bee-haviors: I like it, but I can’t afford it…..

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.

I will be the first to tell you…I ain’t rich. Far from it, actually. Very far from it. I mean, faaaar from it.

You get what I’m sayin’, right? I have never felt the need to spend hundreds of dollars on make-up at one time. Not that my wallet would allow me. But that doesn’t stop me from lustin’ like crazy. Most of my lusts come and go but I just can’t shake this one.

That’s right. It’s the Clarisonic Face brush. I’ve been wanting one like mad for quite some time. But I can’t afford it. $200 for a face brush is sooo out of my budget. But I hear it works magic. And with my skin in the condition that it’s in, I would love to make the investment.

But still…$200 is a flight. A student loan payment. Tae Kwon Do lessons (meaning the ones I want to take).

I have yet to justify buying this baby simply because, I can’t afford it.

That’s right. I said it. Ain’t no shame in my game. LOL! It’s your turn…

What beauty product do you
want but just can’t afford?

Sista Showoff: FaceDrama Cosmetics

Hello fellow clumpers, it’s Tamar! I would like to welcome to another post from the Sista Show Off series! In this series we like to show some love to other companies, blogs, businesses or organizations. Let us feature you! Shoot me an email at tamarforclumps@gmail.com.

When I think about buying makeup I think about companies that I see everyday. Recently my eyes have been opened to a world of makeup companies that have women behind them that made big dreams come true for themselves! Today I’m featuring a woman that is making a name for herself in the beauty world.

Keka, CEOand Founder of FaceDrama Cosmetics

I got a chance to ask her a few questions so we can get the scoop on what she’s all about….

1. What made you decide to start your own cosmetics company?

I started my own makeup company because as a make up artist, I invested money into other’s businesses and the products weren’t necessarily good. As makeup artists, we have tricks to make things work when products aren’t what we thought they’d be and when minorities are involved, it becomes doubly difficult. I thought, “Why not create my own line?” I created my own line so that I’d be in control of what I produced and , most importantly, it would have enough pigment for darker skin!

2. What inspires you?

The strength and beauty of my ancestors, my mami, my sister, my daughter, and my niece inspire me.

3. Where do you see FaceDrama in 5 years?

In 5 years, Face Drama will be a viable force in the makeup industry. We will be recognized internationally for our great products, our service in the community, creative campaigns, and our representation of all women!

4. What is the best makeup tip you can give COM readers?

The best tip I can give your readers is- find what works for them. Makeup trends are great but a true icon creates her own trends and personal style. So if you look hot rocking a bold red lip, let that be your signature! Don’t be afraid to be who YOU ARE.

5. What is the one product that you can’t leave the house without?

You know I’m not leaving leaving my house without mascara and something pretty on my lips.

6. When and where can we purchase your products?

Nationally the products aren’t available as of yet but I have been selling them in the Detroit (where I’m from). I will be taking online advanced orders in about a week or so. I just finished shooting my national campaign so I had to wait until that was done to actually launch the site. I have been sending samples, though so if the readers leave their contact info @ www.facedrama.com or email facedramacosmetics@yahoo.com- we will get back to them. I can’t keep all this fabulousness to Detroit, only!

EDIT: The products are now available online

7. What advice can you give women trying to venture out and start a business?

The best advice that I can give a woman starting her own business is- don’t be afraid to succeed. Many times, we talk ourselves out of being successful. All successful people started big…. Baby steps are for who they are named after- babies! Come out running in your stilettos!

Now I want to share with you a few pictures of the makeup

The packaging is so sophisticated!

I have two lipsticks in Hot mama (Sexy Red), Loot (Bronze) and 1 Gloss ware in Mary Berry ( Pinkish brown with a hint of gold)

My camera doesn’t capture the essence of the products! I’m working on that though. Did I mention the gloss taste like chocolate cake?

I have two eyeshadow pots in Sugar Cookie (resembles a sugar cookie with sparkle) and Smoldering (Think black Licorice). The shadow is very pigmented and stays on ALL day without creasing!

I really love these products! I have even started to wear the lipstick and I have always been a gloss type of girl! What I love the most is how personable Keka is! She cares about your needs and it really does matter to her if you like the product! So go check her out over at FaceDrama.com! Leave her comments, questions or concerns in the comment section and she will answer you back!!

Keep It Clumping,

Tamar

Amor de Lacquer: My nail designs…spotted on Twitter!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

[NOTE: All photos were taken by the camera on my Blackberry.]

Lately I have been playing around with some nail designs. This happens to me every few months or so. I would love to go all crazy and rock Skittles nails all day everyday but the reality is, my profession (ugh, I hate being an adult….seriously) forces me to be rather conservative in the nail polish/design department. No fair!! But that doesn’t stop me from trying to sneak a little va-voom on my nails. Even if it is only one one nail.

Seeee….

For this look, I am rocking Zoya’s Rea with a quick dash of Zoya’s Jacy. I love love loooove how Zoya’s Rea looks. It is a gorgeous foil-y plum with silver bombs all up and through it. Jacy, a jelly, gives me that extra bit of glam without going overboard. I thought this look was rather work/church safe.

Total weekend look! Dark nails are unexpected in the summer. And that’s just the kind of lady I am…unexpected. Diamond Cosmetics’ Plum Pie in the Sky with a dash of Diamond Cosmetics’ Berry Sweet is a slammin‘ weekend mani.

Ah yesss, this may be one of my favorite random designs ever. Lavender purple nails with a spot of green. Quite spring-y, uh? Orly’s Mint Mojito with a splash of Orly’s Cashmere Cardigan. I decided to go with the french mani on the ring finger because, well…..no reason, really. I was playing around and that’s where I ended up! Michelle from All Lacquered Up even gave me props on that mani. You know I died, right?

Now this mani is about a month old or so but I am seriously thinking about re-doing it; but adding some nicer touches to it. I struggled with the design on this one. It looks rather amateur but a round 2 should really set it off! China Glaze’s Sky High Top with a splash of China Glaze’s Tree Hugger are probably two of my FAVORITE blues and greens. I mean….ever.

I am STILL doing cartwheels over Nubar’s Going Green collection. I did this mani shortly after reviewing the collection. That delicious Reclaim dominates the scene will Wildfire makes a guest appearance on the ring (haha, that rhymes). I topped it off with a pink flower nail decal from Fing’rs (stay tuned for reviews!). The sticker gives it a nice touch but let’s be honest, Reclaim really steals the show.

If you follow me on Twitter, you never know what I may twitpic..my sister’s darling new Mali-poo puppy, sneak peeks of upcoming mascara reviews, behind the scenes shots at events, my travels, yummy raw/vegan dishes…..you just never knowwww.

Tweet ya lata!

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Mascara Monday: L’Oreal Telescopic mascara

Happy happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great one. I was able to do some road trippin’ up to North Florida so I am happy as a clam. Traveling is a way of life for me…..even if it’s only 4 hours away. I love it and need it to function.

On we go to the mascara review. My sister Courtney is the model for this Mascara Monday. We have different eye lids and shapes and I think her eyes REALLY show the awesomeness of Telescopic.

L’Oreal Telescopic mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (I got it for $5.49 at Ulta)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “L’Oreal Telescopic enhances your lashes with intense length and lash by lash separation. The flat side of the patented flexible Precision brush lengthens lashes up to 60% while the comb side of the brush separates with exact precision for clump free result.” (source)

The truth:
If you are looking for serious separation, this mascara may be your total BFF.

What I loved about it: L’Oreal Telescopic has many many fans. While the mascara’s performance alone is decent, it is the wand that really steals the show.

What I didn’t like: I found it to just be “okay” with the lengthening. I was looking for insanely longer lashes.

Overall: My review for L’Oreal Telescopic is anything but prompt. This baby has been out for quite some time. In fact, I was rocking it before Clumps of Mascara’s existence. I am reviewing it again simply because I think it needs to be added to the Mascara Bin. This is a popular mascara and no mascara archive is complete without it.

First things first—I think this mascara is GREAT for ladies with smaller lashes and lids. I get a few emails from my Asian ladies telling me that they struggle with mascaras that have HUGE wands and bristles (ahem…Lash Blast). I can see the frustration in this. Having said that, Telescopic is PERFECT with baby lids and lashes.

If your lashes are sparse and volume is what you seek, Telescopic will may not deliever the volume but what it will do is give you the illusion of lush lashes. The wand is perfect for separation and taming wild and out of control lashes.

L’Oreal Telescopic comes in Brown Black, Black, Blackest Black and Carbon Black. I like that you get a lot of variety. As for me, the darker the lashes the better.

As much as I like Telescopic for others, it isn’t the mascara for me. My lashes like the separation aspect but that is as far as it gets with me. Which is okay. I chose not to give it low ratings just because it didn’t work well for me. It is a slamming mascaras for several reasons and it deserves high ratings on Clumps of Mascara!

Would I recommend it?: Yep!! If you have smaller lids and lashes, this mascara will rock your world!

Mascara Monday: Lumene Blueberry Curl mascara

Happy Monday, my darlings! I hope that those celebrating in the U.S. had a wonderful 4th of July. My Mommy came down from North Florida to visit and we had a ball!

I have received several requests to review this mascara. Some are a few months old. But it’s not because I forgot! I really couldn’t find it! A stroll down Ulta had this mascara calling my name so behold…..

Lumene Blueberry Curl mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (I got it for $9.99 at Ulta)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: Perfectly voluminous lashes with the power of Nordic nature! A mascara which combines unique Finnish blueberry seed oil with the exceptional characteristics of an innovative plastic mascara brush. (source)

The truth:
It doesn’t smell like blueberries but woooow, it’s good!!

What I loved about it: Well for starters, the wand rocks. This may be one of the best wands that I have ever used. The bristles are just perfect. It looks like Cover Girl’s Lash Blast wand but better….the bristles are longer making separation of the lashes easy.

What I didn’t like: Shucks man….this mascara would get a 5 if only it lasted throughout the day! Boooo!

Overall: I first heard about Lumene’s Blueberry Curl mascara from Vanessa at Contests and Such. And of course my first question was, “Does it smell like blueberries?” Blackberry seed oil is used in this mascara and aside from it helping curl your lashes, it is also supposed to keep them stronger and healthier. This is definitely the kind of mascara you would want to use over time to see if they indeed become stronger and longer.

Ahhh….what I can say? Initial application is amazing. You can apply up to three coats of this mascara without any clumps. Already amazing in my book. Even the curl factor is up to par. And that says a lot since the average mascara doesn’t really “curl”.

But the real problem is that the mascara looses its “umph” throughout the day. While my lashes look long and curl-tastic now, a few moments outside in the Floridian heat and the mascara seems to just wither away. It isn’t as hard as most mascaras. But that’s just me. I would imagine ladies in other climates or with less oily skin would not have this issue.

Would I recommend it?: I do. It really does deliver the curl factor. And maybe it will hold up better on you than it did on me.

Beauty Bee-haviors: Can’t leave home without it

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.
What product do you feel like you
HAVE to wear before leaving the house?

I have a friend of mine who literally wears a full face of make-up just to go to the grocery store. Pass me my black eye liner and some gloss and I can do anywhere. I just feel as if I look dead without the liner. So that is definitely a must have for me.

What about you?
