FOTD Friday: The Lovely Danyelle!

Happy Friday, good people! I have had a crazy week with a lot going on at my job and training for this 5K so I haven’t had much time or energy to even play in make-up this week. Thank God I have a wonderful fellow beauty buddy who not only rocks hot looks but doesn’t mind being featured in FOTD Fridays. I love my Danyelle! And I’m so glad that she will be participating in our Politically Pretty Beauty Challenge! Check out her fabulous look.

She used (all MAC unless otherwise stated):

FACE:
NC50 Studio fix fluid
Deep Dark blot powder
Sweet as Cocoa
Breezy

EYES:
Vintage Gold Pigment
Embark eyeshadow
Covergirl lash blast/GreatLash mascaras

LIPS:
MAC Jampacked
Bath & Body Works BlackAmethyst lippie

Nightmoth Lipliner

…..and just for kicks, check out Danyelle rockin’ purples on the cheeks. She used MAC’s Hepcat eyeshadow.

HOTT! Definitely a little more wearable than my purples. Loves it!

Have a wonderful upcoming weekend, people!

Brown and Blushin’ Series: Purple on the cheeks?

I know, I know. I haven’t done a post from this series in quite awhile, uh? I’m so sorry, chicas. I’ve been behind on keeping you lovely up on blushes from my brown skin beauties. I am still enamored with blush and my collection has grown from 3-5 blushes to almost 20! I’m tellin’ you….when I like somethin’ I really like it! And while I haven’t purchased a blush in awhile, I still enjoy revisiting everything from my NYC blush in Desert Rose to my Stila Convertible color in Rose and Grandma’s trusty Fashion Fair Warm Sand blush.

But what happens when a lady loves what she loves but still wants to try something different?

THIS!

Who remembers MAC’s Mi’Lady Mineralized shadow? This baby came out last fall and I honestly haven’t touched it in quite awhile. While I think it is divine on the lids this beautiful combo of mineralized goodness doesn’t quite fit in with my daily work-appropriate looks. But I still wanted to see what I could do with ole’ girl.

I mean, look how pigmented she is…

So you know what I had to do, riiiight? I grabbed the trusty MAC 187 brush and…

Who would have thought that this color is pretty dern decent on the cheeks?

A little too sparkly for my liking but perhaps with a lighter hand and a cleaner brush I would have ended up with a beautifully flattering purple cheek that doesn’t LOOK crazy.

I was a little heavy on the cheeks but that didn’t stop me…I pulled out my purples quad and…

Yes, I swirled the brush in all 4 colors. The results?

(say hi to the crater on my face!)

Still a little too MUCH so I definitely want to play around with purples on the cheek but with a lighter hand. And yall know me, I ALWAYS get carried away….Mi’Lady on the lips, B? Really?

Wait is that my washcloth in the background that I forgot to crop out? Clumps of Mascara strikes again! LOL!

So what say you, people? Would you rock purple cheeks? Or on the lips? Hmm…maybe I will refine this look a little more and present it in this week’s upcoming FOTD Friday?

Whatcha think?

FOTD Friday: Les Nubians

Happy Friday!! Gosh, this week was not too hot for me so I am excited for Friday. And I am diggin’ this week’s FOTD. It was surprisingly effortless. The ladies of Les Nubians were quite the inspiration!!

I love everything about this look. The dark burgundy lip. The springy green/blue eyes. The hot pink cheeks. And those mysterious white dots. I mean—wow. I tried to mimic this the best way I could but nothing does the original justice.

When I play around with theatrical dramatic looks I pull out something that I neeeever use:
…..foundation!

Well, not quite foundation. Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturizer is as close as I get to using actual foundation. I forgot how wonderful this stuff is. It created the perfect canvas for the look. Along with that I used:

CHEEKS:
MAC Full Fuschia (PRO)
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Brownie
EYES:
MAC Shimmermoss
Maybelline Unstoppable eyeliner
Dior Diorshow Mascara
Milani brow pencil
NYX White eyeliner

LIPS:

MAC Matte Lipstick in Bing

Gosh, lining those dots up was NOT easy.

..okay, I got a little too ANTM on that last one.

Me with a more “me” look.

I love love looooved doing this. It took me all of 8 minutes and my Sonia Kashuk fluffy brush was responsible for the wonderful wash of color on the lids. I want to try to do this look on someone else.

What do you think about this look? A little much? Creative? Funky? Would you try something like this?

Happy Fridays, mijas! Enjoy your weekends and stay beauuuuutiful!

Mascara Monday: Wet N Wild’s MegaVolume Mascara

Happy Monday, people!!! I hope that this upcoming week brings you a ton of joy. Especially if you are one of those fortunate people to be in New York City for Fashion Week. I’m not there, but I am staying up on all of happenings through Twitter. Loves it!

Okay, soooo…this mascara is definitely one of a kind. Check it:

Wet ‘N Wild’s MegaVolume Thickening Mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (it was a $1.99..seriously the cheapest mascara ever)

Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5

Overall: 0.5 out of 5

What it claims: “Turn it up! Incredible lash-thickening mascara formula dramatically enhances the volume of even the most soft-spoken lashes-and babies them with conditioners, too.”

The truth:

Well, uh….at least you aren’t paying TOO much for it.

What I loved about it:

I’m the type that tries to find the silver lining in everythiiiiing. But honey, I can’t even lie to you this time around. I didn’t love anything about this mascara.

Overall:

Oh geez, where to start? Well um….it has this smell. Problems 1-4. And while the wand is that of an average wand, I find that when trying to apply this mascara it was just one big glooby mess. After applying one coat, my lashes seemed to laugh at me. I didn’t notice any type of length or volume. After two coats, I noticed a little somethin’-somethin’ but it was very subtle. In attempts to give this mascara a fair chance I wore it all day only to find it flaking with every glance in the mirror. And by the end of the day I didn’t even need to use make-up remover for it had decided to magically remove itself by---disappearance. Yes, I’m not kidding you. The mascara just disappeared from my lids. Now if that ain’t innovation, I don’t know what is!

Would I recommend it:

If I had to choose between this or wearing my natural lashes, I would definitely choose the latter. Shoot, I’d rather pour sand in my eyes than wear this stuff here. Okay, that was beyond dramatic, uh? LOL!

Has anyone else tried some of Wet N Wild's mascaras? Did I do something wrong or do you really get what you pay for? Your thoughts....

....please excuse the lack of videos/pictures for this Mascara Monday. Ya girl was a little swamped this past weekend. But don't fret---this week Clumps of Mascara is going to be featuring a ton of reviews! Stay tuuuuned.

...and stay beautiful!

FOTD Friday: Travel Edition

Okay so don’t you love Fridays that come too soon? I mean it really feels like a Thursday for me. But hey—I’m so not complaining. Last Friday I was livin’ it up in Chicago so I figured I would show you wonderful people a few shots of a city that I fell in love with. Because I went on business, I didn’t get a chance to do much. But that’s more motivation for me to go back. Who wants to plan a trip with me?!

How beautiful is the lobby of my hotel? I stayed at the downtown Hilton Chicago.

My first trek down the Magnificent Mile (aka Michigan Ave). This street is located in the middle of downtown and is full of stores, shops and restaurants.

Downtown Chicago! Gorgeous!

Every time I visit a new city, I love to take pictures of famous streets. I have everything from Sunset Blvd to Bourbon Street and Broadway.

The beautiful Millennium Park…

Looook! An HK scarf? Had to have it!

I visited the world’s oldest African American museum. And here I watched Barak Obama’s historical speech. I will never forget that moment.

And what’s a trip to Chicago without some Chicago-style pizza? I could only eat one piece. While it was yummy, I had to hit the hotel’s track a good 7 times before I felt like myself again.

The Sears Tower from my hotel room….

Ohhh Chicago…how I miss thee!

Have any of you visited Chicago? It had such a wonderful “vibe” to me. Next city to visit? Vegas, baby!!! Where are you trying to visit?

Uh? What? Orlando? *wink*

Have a beautiful weekend, kids!

Website news..

Hi lovelies!

I am in the process of re-organizing my site series. Not just their names but their definitions as well. To not confuse the “Sista Sites” series with the Top Sista Sites website, I have decided to change the name to Sista Show-off. The series won’t change. I will continue to brag about the blogs on my Beauty Marks blog roll. I have added an extension to Sista Show-Off in which I will interview some baaaaad women. I’m talkin’ entrepreneurs, authors, fashion designers, business women, the workin’ Mommy and more.

This extension is meant to inspire any and everyone who reads it. Please shoot me an email at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com if you know of fabulous women I can interview. Sista Show-Offs come with beautiful Black art like…

Eyes of Mystique by Jerome Brown

Anytime you see a contest, it’s going to come out of the Honey Pot. The Honey Pot contains…

SWEET DEALS, CONTESTS

AND

GIVEAWAYS

My Mommy, the herbalist came up with this name and I think it’s quite fitting. Especially considering I just adore bees. Whaaat, you didn’t know I had an affinity for those cute honey makin’ black and yellow wonders? Sure do. My nickname was Bee Buzz as a little girl. Loves it!

Want to showcase a beautiful new look? Hairstyle or gorgeous shoes? Allow me to introduce another series:

BEAUTIFUL

BEEEING

ME

Going along with the Bee-theme, I would love for any and everyone to submit me some of their favorite pictures of anything you would like to share with the Clumps of Mascara family! Beautiful banners for these new series will be coming shortly and I am still in the processing of updating the “Site Series” links to the left.

I would love to get your input, recommendations and suggestions about the current themes and the upcoming ones. I am trying to make Clumps of Mascara as user-friendly as possible. In a few days, you may notice the new Mission link in which I lay out the “purpose” and goals of COM. I want to incorporate more than just “make-up” reviews and products on the site. Aaaand…..I’m in the process of creating a Clumps of Mascara MySpace site. And I am quite obsessed with Twitter. Stay tuned as I make “our” home bigger and better.

Stay beautiful!

Mascara Monday: Max Factor Volume Couture

I’m back from Chicago! Did you guys miss meeee?

*crickets*

LOL, I know I was missed but I am back and in action! I had a wonderful trip and as requested I will post some pictures of beautiful Chicago. And because of all of my busy-ness, I was not able to comment on fellow beauty/fashion bloggers’ posts but I read every single one of them! Promise, I did.

This Mascara Monday is going to be greeeeat because Jen from A Beautyful Sentiment and I are reviewing the exact same mascara. Be sure to check out her review as well to see what she thinks about it.

Max Factor’s Volume Couture

Price: 5 out of 5 (less than $7 from Wal-Mart)

Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5

Overall: 4.75 out of 5

What it claims: “The highly defined, voluminous lashes you crave are yours with new MAX Factor Volume Couture Mascara. Selected as the Official Mascara of Milan Fashion Week, this superb formula delivers extreme volume without clumping. Our innovative iFX brush coats every little lash, giving you MAXimum impact … and beautiful results.”

The truth: I looooove it! Definitely an everyday-use for me these days!

What I loved about it: I am finally getting used to the 3D brush. In fact, I think I love them more than the traditional brush. I definitely love Max Factor’s!

Overall: I haven’t read Jen’s review yet but I absolutely love Volume Couture. As mentioned in the video, I took it with me to Chicago and by bringing it with me on a trip, it pretty much forced me to use just THAT mascara. I had such a great experience with it. The volume factor is incredible! I didn’t get any flaking and my lashes didn’t feel heavy either. One coat was wonderful but two coats were on pooooooint!

Would I recommend it: No. I demand that you buy it! Seriously, this mascara is definitely in the Mascara Hall of Fame!

I know this mascara isn’t new on the market so how many of you ladies have tried it? Be sure to check out Jen’s other mascara reviews. Between the both of us, we have reviewed well over 20 mascaras and this is the only one that we have both reviewed. Loves it!!

Have a wonderful Labor Day (remember why we celebrate it) and stay beautiful!

FOTD Friday: Oh La Tempting

Happy Friday, lovelies!!! I am still in Chicago and hopefully I am having a ball. Um, it’s strange talking about myself in the 4th person??

Ha! So if you know me beauty-wise, you know that I am Queen Itsadupe (it’s a dupe). I have this obsession with assuming that MAC’s newest collections with eye shadows can be duped with other eye shadows from not only MAC but other brands. Hence why I didn’t feel the need to haul the palettes from the Cult of Cherry collection. Not to mention, I am very fickle and anal when it comes to not only cleanliness but having 2 of the same anything. Especially eye shadows.

But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t think the colors were gorgeous. In fact I thought that Tempting was beautiful!! I had to try to find similar colors. Here’s how I tried to recreate the quad.

Tempting (top-left): Milani Golden Bronze
Dark Edge (top-right): MAC Signed Sealed
Next to Nothing (bottom-left): Clinique Almost Peach
Sharp (bottom-right): MAC Eyepopping

Dig the swatches on the hand…

Pretty darn close, uh?

I used…

EYES:

(the colors stated up, of course)
Milani Cocomo Lipliner (I know, I know…I didn’t have brown eyeliner and was just experimenting)
Maybelline Unstoppable eye liner
A mascara that I haven’t reviewed yet but me gusta!

CHEEKS:
Mineral Concepts Dessert Dawn blush

LIPS:
(1st look)
MAC Nightmoth Lip pencil
MAC Jampacked Lip glass

(2nd look)
NYC somethin’….name rubbed off.

OMG, my lip liner so isn’t blended. Clumps of Mascara strikes again. Gotta love it! And check out how different this look is without the bright lip.

I am also thinking that despite the bright green shadow, the look is still subtle enough for work. And brown liner on the lower lash line is crazy beautiful. I have to incorporate that in more looks. Except I hope to use a eye pencil next time instead of a lip pencil. Shhh, don’t act like you’ve never done it before. HA!

What do you people think? I think my dupes are almost identical. I shall be returning to Florida tomorrow evening. I hope that everyone has wonderful weekends!

Stay beautiful!

[NOTE]: I ended up wearing this look to an after-5 lounge and at work and it was beautiful!
