Brown and Blushin’ Series

Blushes!

I can’t tell yall how much I love blushes. I wish someone would have told me a long ago that a sista of a darker hue can rock them beautifully. Before then I was sellin’ myself short but now I am truly a believer. And I absolutely adore my little blush collection. It is perfect for a newbie because none of the colors look alike. I decided to start a series in which I will feature a blush that I think compliments my darker skinned sistas. Thanks for the emails that inspired me to come up with this series.

Stay tuned for the series’ updates.

What do you think? Can darker skinned women rock blushes beautifully? Any type of colors that you would like for me to review? Email me at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Maybelline XXL Curl Power review

Hi beautiful people!

I would like to start by thanking Blogger for the future posts feature. This is a busy blogger’s dream! I love this idea. And it’s another Mascara Monday!!…hmm mmm…on Wednesday. Still in “unpacking my life” mode but I just had to share with yall my absolute favorite mascara right now!
I mean, seriously….I think this is the best one ever. I’m in love. Dig the review.
Let me introduce to you….
Maybelline XXL Curl Power
Price: 5 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall:
5 out of 5
This is seriously one of the best mascaras I have ever tried. I love it! It not only gave me curl, but length as well. The C-shaped brush takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it does wonders.

What I loved about it: It lasted throughout the entire day. No flaking whatsoever. My lashes are a bit funny actin’ and never stay curled but this mascara had them waving allll day long.

What I didn’t like: As you can see in the picture, it is has two wands; a primer and the actual mascara. I didn’t really like the primer because it seemed to be a bit too liquid-y. I wish the consistency was a little thicker. I was also buggin’ at how big the mascara tube was. Because the brush is connected at the middle (does that make sense?), you have to really get used to holding it. And also because the brush is C-shaped, it’s hard to get those corner lashes.

Overall: I adore this mascara. It definitely is the best mascara in my book so far. For only $7.99, I don’t think I have ever been THIS satisfied with a mascara. You can cop it at any drugstore. If you are lookin’ for extra curl and volume, this is the mascara for you. I know that this will always be up in my make-up stash. Love love love it!

Mascara Monday: L’Oreal HIP High Drama Volumizing mascara

Hi beautiful people! Excuse my silence this past weekend. I had a great amount of posts up my sleeve, but would you believe that I had zero internet service in my hotel room? The horror! No worries…I have lots of goodies this week, but fiiiiirst, it’s time for another edition of Mascara Monday.

Yesss, Mascara Monday is where we review a new mascara in attempts to find THE BEST MASCARA EVER!

Now here’s one that I haven’t heard many beauty bloggers talk about. L’Oreal HIP is most known for their eyeshadow color payoffs. But how does their mascara stand up?

You ready to find out?

L’Oreal HIP High Drama Volumizing mascara

Price: 2 out of 5

Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5

Overall:
2 out of 5

What it claims: ” Unique combination of an increased new ultra black pigment and a volumizing formula ensures you will get your darkest lashes with maximum impact.

The truth: Well, it does give a little bit of drama, but not HIGH DRAMA. I wish that it could have given me a little length but nahhhh, not a lick of that. The consistency was pretty decent, it didn’t clump and noooo…..it certainly isn’t waterproof. But the black is really black; which I like!

What I loved about it: My lashes did look thicker and more prominent. And I love how it lasted throughout the entire work day.

What I didn’t like: It wasn’t enough. I was looking for HIGH drama, but I don’t feel that this mascara gave me that.

Overall: I don’t think this mascara is THAT bad. It definitely isn’t one of my favorites and I don’t think I would purchase it again. However, I’m thinking that this would be perfect when paired with one of my other HG (holy grail) mascaras; namely one that gets my lashes out there. The wand is just “eh”. Nothing innovative or fun about it. It’s not the best wand, but I’ve seen worse. It gave me decent control. You can snag this at most drugstores where L’Oreal HIP is sold. However, this baby runs at regularly priced at $9.99 which I think is a bit steep for a drugstore brand. Better BOGO this one. If you need a good volumizing mascara, check this one out….but only if its on sale.

Orange Nail Polish

Knock Knock

Who’s there?

Orange….

Orange Who?

Orange you glad it’s summer time!

Now yall know I’m a cornball, so don’t even trip. Hehe…but seriously, orange is the business this summer. I’m not even kidding. Yes, something doesn’t become the “it” thing until a celebrity is spotted wearing it but I’ve never been hesitate to wear orange nail polish. And I know orange isn’t one of those colors that you can wear freely if you have a professional job, but bustin’ them on the toes is also an alternative. I’m wearing OPI’s Cajun Shrimp now on my tootsies.

I’ll spare you the feet photos this time. I felt rather odd uploading them. But seriously….I swear it’s the prettiest color I have ever laid eyes on. And yes it’s brown girl friendly. I actually think that most fingernail polishes go well with brown skin. So whoever told you they you can’t sport yellow polish, tell them the Head Newb at Clumps of Mascara thinks otherwise. Ha!

I can’t seem to find OPI Cajun Shrimp anywhere in stores and my lady who did my pedicure wasn’t trying to sell it to me either. Turns out that I have some pretty beautiful orange polishes in my little collection….you ready?

Fingerpaints ($2.99)…this color doesn’t have a name, but I think it is the closest “work appropriate orange” we are going to get. It has a few shimmers (one day I’ll learn polish terminology) and is a gorgeous rusted orange.

TKC Mandarin. I purchased this from the nail salon so I’m not sure where they got it from but it has more of a matte finish and is truly the color of a mandarin. It is such a beautiful orange. I’m rockin’ this color on my nails this weekend!

Isa Dora Orange (copped this one on sale for $2 so I’m not sure of its retailed value). This is my 2nd favorite orange polish. It is a beautiful muted orange and I think its subtlety really pops out on brown skin. Clumps of Mascara strikes again with the smudged nail!

Milani Juicy Glo ($3.99). This polish has a similar matte finish to that TKC and in terms of colors, they are almost identical. Milani’s Juicy Glo has bit of “neon”. Ohhh yess, I adore this. I would definitely wear this on the fingers and toes. Grrr, and excuse the blur on this one. I promise I will learn how to successfully take nice polish and fingers pictures.

And the best thing about these orange polishes is that they can all be found at your local drugstore. And look out for buy 1, get 1 free deals on Milani and Fingerpaints. I love french pedicure on the toes like every other girl, but step it up a notch with some color, girlfriend!

Orange you glad that you can be fab on a budget?

Okay….I’ll stop. But I really wanna know your input….yay or nay to the orange polish?

Oh, Great Lash!

I’m finally back from NYC. The next few Mascara Mondays will be relatively good ones. I just recently trashed 5-6 mascaras. All of them had their reasons. Some I wanted to turn in for Back 2 MAC (bring in 6 empty containers and get a free lipstick or eye shadow…fab!), others were on the 6-7 month mark and the ones left were ones that were just taking up space in the traincase. Sooo, I impulsively purchased 5 new mascaras in attempts to find….

THE BEST MASCARA EVER

Yep, it’s kind of a big deal..especially when your lashes are poo-butts like mine.

[NEWBIE SIDENOTE]: Good mascaras can be found anywhere. Don’t think let companies fool you into thinking that their $36 mascara is better than a drugstore brand.

Okay, so let’s introduce the first mascara up for review. This baby is no newbie to the mascara world. In fact, she holds a title as being one of the best mascaras. Allure magazine loves her, celebrities love her and many people just assume that this is the holy grail of mascaras.

I know, I know….this chick has been out for a quick little minute and I’ve actually owned her once or twice years ago. But I’ve learned A LOT since then as far as mascara technique and wanted to give her another chance.

Price: 5 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: “Lash Building Formula builds even the tiniest lashes and the lash Building Brush makes lashes fuller and longer with no clumps or globs.”

The truth: I have to admit that everything it says it will do, it does! I think that this mascara is deserving of all of its awards and positive feedbacks!

What I loved about it: I loved how it lengthened my lashes. And even when applying more coats, it did not clump. And it’s waterproof!

What I didn’t like: It always made my eyes burn. Which is crazy because I don’t wear contacts or have sensitive eyes. When taking this off at night, I had to endure crazy burning.

Overall: I think that it is definitely a must have mascara…in addition to others, if you are a product junkie like me. Plus, it’s only $3.99 for two! Can’t beat that!

What do you think about this mascara? I’ve had several friends who actually really loathe it. But what works for one gal may not work for the other. Have you tried it and liked it?

Let It Clump’s Debut!

Welcome to Clumps of Mascara’s first post from the Let it Clump series. Let It Clumps posts are where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Today’s post (and many posts in the near future since this is one of my newest obsessions) is about nails! I am obsessed with nail polishes. Not so much designs, but I absolutely adore beautiful nail colors and find that a lot of them compliment my skin tone. All Laquered Up, one of my favorite beauty blogs dedicated to all things nails, is one of my inspirations. I love wearing anything from neon green, orange, royal purple and black polishes on my nails and toes. Because I try to be a professional lady, I don’t walk around with these colors ALL the time, but that doesn’t stop me from buying them and at least sporting them on my toes.

Today’s creation came out of nowhere. I stumbled across my white finger nail polish from when I tried to keep up my French manicures. But now I think that French manicures on the nails are so played out. Hence my reason for trying to step outside of the box on this one.

Crazy, uh? And with a look like this, you just have to top it off with a big piece of costume jewelry. It’s madd fun!

And last weekend I had a getaway with the BFF and check out the colors on the tootsies.

That’s Coconut “somethin” from China Glaze and I loved it so much that I purchased it. Postin’ pictures of my toes is the first and rather awkward. LOL!

What do you think? My mascara is still clumping but I’m lookin’ fab in the finger/toenail department!

[Oh, and by the way….I’m headed to NYC tomorrow morning until Sunday so excuse the lack of posts. If you’re in the NYC area…hit me up. Let’s paaaarty! Have a fab weekend, everyone!]

FOTD Friday

Welcome to Clumps of Mascara’s first installment of FOTD Friday! Aside for bringing some color to my traincase via the beautiful pink packaging, Heatherette has also inspired me to start playing around with pigments again. It has been quite awhile since I’ve even touched any kind of colorful eyeshadows or pigments. I had such a ball dappin’ in Heatherette’s Pink Pearl. What a beautiful and FUN pigment….here’s what I used:

EYES (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Base: Artifact Paint pot (applied with finger)
Pink Pearl pigment (applied with 242)
Carbon eyeshadow ( applied with 224 and 222)
Vanilla pigment (applied with 275)
Blacktrack Fluid line (applied with 266)
Styli Style eye liner
MAC Prep N Prime Mascara
Maybelline Great Lash mascara

FACE:
Olay Complete Moisture Lotion
Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick

LIPS:
Lollipop Loving lipstick
Beaux Lustreglass

I’m lovin’ how this looks. It is a bit loud for me. Which is funny because when I first got into make-up, I had no problem rockin’ crazy colors. But now I am more into subtle and professional looks. But Pink Pearl pigment is definitely one that I am glad I added to the collection. If I had more time I would have played around with the middle of the lid adding Nocturnelle or some other pretty purple color. I absolutely adore purples!! But I love Fridays even more!

It’s Friday, bayyyybeeeeee!!!
