Take the Eucerin Skin First Pledge

Time to take a pledge, guys and gals! It’s a heavy commitment so if you don’t think you’re ready, give it some time and think about it. Y’all know how serious I am about skincare. I’ve even claimed to spend any amount of money on my skincare simply because I believe healthy skin is worth the investment.

I’m a wee bit late in posting it but last month’s challenge of my Eucerin Healthy Skin challenge was to encourage you beautiful people to take the Eucerin Skin First Pledge. What’s this pledge all about?

By taking the pledge, you are…

  • Choosing to put the health of your skin first.
  • Pledging to protect and defend your skin.
  • Making skincare a priority for yourself, your family and friends.
  • Deciding to treat your skincare more like healthcare.

I’ve already taken the pledge and you can do so as well by visiting EucerinUS.com and Eucerin’s Facebook page. I promise it shouldn’t take you more than 30 seconds. If that!

Yay for making healthy and beautiful skin a priority!

A QVC exclusive – tarte’s What Has Your Makeup Done For You Lately?

Ohmigoodness, ohmigoodness! I know I’m supposed to be on a pseudo-hiatus but I had to break away from the sofa and Benson and Stabler to preach about the awesomeness that is this tarte on QVC deal. Good ole’ QVC has had me lusting over jewelry, kitchen gadgets and curtains for years and oh yeah, they feature a slew of my favorite beauty brands. Including the illustrious tarte, of course.

This isn’t tarte’s first time debuting fabulousness on QVC. Their maracuja oil has made several appearances. This set, however, has got to be hands down my favorite of the bunch. You get SO much and it’s all under $50. Which is a big deal considering tarte’s prices can be on the pricey (albeit worthy) side.

Check this out, mamas…

For one day and one day only (that’s THIS Friday, July 13th), you can snag the tarte What Has Your Makeup Done For You Lately? collection. What’s included?

  • LipSurgence Lip Shine in Smitten (new product!)
  • Pure Maracuja Oil Rollerball (new product!)
  • Retoucher Flawless Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush (new product!)
  • Maracuja Miracle 12-hr foundation w/  SPF 15 (new product!)
  • ModernEYES Waterproof Creaseless Shadow in Plum Brown (Liner in PlumBerry)  (new product!)
  • Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara in black

I was glad that I was able to get my hands on this collection so that I could do a quick review of the new products to give you an idea of what to expect if you want to scoop it up.

LipSurgence Lip Shine in Smitten

This shade is a bit on the bright rose-y side and I’m not sure it compliments my warm hue very well but man, I love the consistency and how it feels on the lips. I’ve reviewed le LipSurgence lippies before but I think I like this one better because it’s sans glitter. There’s also a built-in sharpener which is perfect for toting around!

Pure Maracuja Oil Rollerball

So excited to see the epic Maracjua oil in a travel-friendly rollerball. I adore everything about this oil. I find it perfect for using on the hair, skin, nails, body….everywhere! It’s a fragrance-free oil that sinks into skin but doesn’t leave an oily residue the way other oils can. I reviewed it here and I am still regularly using it.

Retoucher Flawless Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush

This brush – ohmiwords – this brush is incredibly soft. It’s definitely softer than what I expected it to be and I find it perfect for applying blushes to the cheeks. Yah, I know it’s a foundation brush but I find that I get much better use out of brushes like these when I use them for blushes, bronzers and highlighters. The rounded head makes for easy movement. Plus I really love the design on the handle.

Maracuja Miracle 12-hr foundation w/  SPF 15

Oooooh, foundation! And there’s a brown-girl friendly shade too. Unfortunately, I found this “Deep” to be too light for me which broke my heart a bit as it is the darkest of the 5 shades. tarte has never been one to have a ton of brown-girl friendly shades when it comes to their foundations. I knew that when I spied this foundation and so I didn’t get my hopes up too high. Ah well. Consistency-wise, it feels nice air-y and I love that there’s SPF built-in. The shades are as follows: Fair, Light, Medium, Tan and Deep.

ModernEYES Waterproof Creaseless shadow/liner

It’s been a while since I’ve played with a tarte liner, but when they say creaseless, honey, they mean creaseless. This 2-in-1 product totes the shadow on one side and the liner on the other. Both are nice shades that will work for daytime and nighttime looks. Both are great at lasting on and around the lid area for hours at a time. However, if you’re like me and have oily lids, you’ll probably have to wear a primer when  wearing the shadow. No biggie.

Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara

Won’t say much about this because I’ve got an entire review on it here. This is hands down my FAVORITE tarte mascara. It volumizes and lasts longer than most natural mascaras.

Overall, for $49.98 I say you’re getting a darn good deal. Even if the foundation shade happens to be off a bit, the mascara, brush, maracuja oil and lippie impress me enough to consider this a steal. You will only be able to get this on Friday, July 13th on QVC and QVC.com.

Whatcha think? Think you’ll be grabbing? Somehow I think Janet Jackson will approve this collection. Haha, get it? Someone….anyone?

Eucerin Skincare Challenge giveaway – 5 winners!

OMG! OMG! It stopped raining here in Orlando! This is indeed breaking news because it’s been monsoon-ing in Central Florida for a good 5 days now. I’m not complaining because a) we need the rain and b) it’s summertime in Florida and it ALWAYS rains. So yeah.

In non-rain news, I recently had the opportunity to have a skin consultation via Skype with the beautiful and talented Dr. Rosemarie Ingleton of Ingleton Dermatology in New York City. My consultation with her was the official kick-off to my Eucerin Skincare Challenge and I could not have been more excited.

I rambled on and on about my skincare issues (hyperpigmentation, mild acne, eczema, dryness – need I go on?) and she was so patient and kind. She gave me some suggestions and product recommendations. Two of ‘em are here!

Eucerin Daily Protection Face Lotion with SPF 30 and Eucerin Daily Protection Body Lotion with SPF 15.

Both are Fragrance Free and can I be honest? I much prefer skincare products that don’t have strong fragrances. And I know I’m the minority in that regard but I love that a great deal of Eucerin’s products are free of dyes and fragrances.

I’ve been slacking on slathering sunscreen on my face. I know, I know. I still haven’t found the BEST everyday wear sunscreen for my skin type and hue but I’ve been giving Eucerin Daily Protection Face Lotion a whirl and it hasn’t been too shabby.

A little goes a looooong way. And by little, I mean you probably need less than a pump. One pump gives you quite a bit of product.

And even after rubbing…

And rubbing…

…it takes sometime before it sinks into my skin. Many brown girls have issues with sunscreens leaving a white film on their faces and I’m no stranger to that issue. Luckily, it took nothing more than some elbow grease to really get this to sink into the skin. Unfortunately the face lotion isn’t without the sunscreen-y smell. It’s something I’ve become used to because I know I HAVE to wear it no matter what.

And when it comes to the zee body, the Eucerin Daily Protection Body Lotion does great at moisturizing even the ashiest skin (ahem…mine) while giving the added protection of SPF 15.

I love that the formula is on the thicker side because nothing sucks more than a watery lotion.

In honor of my Eucerin Skin Challenge, I’ll be hosting a giveaway! FIVE lucky ladies (or guys) will each score 1 bottle of Eucerin Daily Protection Face Lotion and 1 bottle of Eucerin Daily Protection Body Lotion with SPF 15. Yup!

Enter the Rafflecopter to be eligible to win.
Giveaway is for U.S. residents only.

Ooooh – pretty Clarisonics! Must haul all!

Any time one of my girlfriends asks me about a must have skincare product, I recommend the Clarisonic. And I do this a lot. I could very well be a spokesperson for lé Clarisonic because I am always quick to go down the list of perks this skincare gadget has done for me and soooooo many other users.

Yeah. I am that in love with mis Clarisonics.

How gorgeous are these new Clarisonic Mia 2’s?

Just precious. I want them all. I want to place them on a shelf in my beauty room just to marvel at. Crazy yes but I am just enamored with these pretty shades.

Oh, and just in case you thought you couldn’t afford a Clarisonic – check again, mamacita. The Mia is only $119 and Mia 2 is $149. Not bad, uh? And can I be honest? I actually prefer the Mia over the Classic and PLUS. The Mia is perfect for traveling and I find it easier to move around the face.

Put that Clarisonic lemming to an end and get you one this summer. You deserve it, don’t you?

Check out my in-depth Clarisonic Mia review here.

Giveaway! Braun Silk-épil 5 Young Beauty epilator!

I’m keepin’ it real up in this post. Then again, I pride myself on being that way in all of my posts. I mean, seriously…if I wanted to be all “proper” in the way that I wrote, I would have finished grad school, right? Hmph. So yeah. A few weeks ago, I was granted the opportunity to review the Braun Silk-épil 5 Young Beauty epilator. Don’t y’all laugh but while I’ve heard of an epilator, I never really knew what they did. In my mind, I figured that were similar to electric razors but that’s as much as I knew.

After doing some research, I discovered that epilators were the choice devices in hair removal for many women. And for good reason. Epilators quickly removing unwanted hair from the root effortlessly making it 10x better than shaving. I’ve never done any waxing (oh, except my brows) but using an epilator is supposed to be easier than waxing because you don’t have to deal with the clean up. Plus, those that use epilators say that it takes so much longer for the hair to grow back then it does when shaving. Which, for me, is a total perk and it was the one of the main reasons I couldn’t WAIT to try my epilator.

And tried I did.

With its many positives, there is one downfall to the epilator. The pain aspect. Mind you, I am a woman that knows pain. I endure excruciating migraines regularly, have had menstrual cramps from hell, have several tattoos and piercings and have broken a number of fingers during childhood. Shots in the gums, bum and arm don’t scare me either. I thought I’d be a good candidate for the epilator since my pain tolerance is pretty high.

Girl, I couldn’t do it.

I tried a total of 6 times to use the epilator and each time I winced in pain. I tried using it on my underarms AND legs and had such a hard time finishing. I decided that the pain wasn’t worth it. After all, I’m a woman that doesn’t freak out over a little stubble. We’re human. We’re mammals. We grow hair. I’m okay with that.

But despite my painful experience with the epilator, I still wanted to grant one of my readers with the opportunity to try one out. One of my greatest friends can’t stop raving about hers and has told me that while it is painful in the beginning, it does get easier. Apparently, I am too much of a punk to keep trying to get to that “easier” point. Oh well.

Maybe you’ll be a bigger woman than me. Braun is sponsoring this giveaway and 1 lucky gal will get 1 Braun Silk-épil 5 Young Beauty epilator.

This epilator comes with so many fantastic bells and whistles and I wish my cry baby self could stop whinning and get to using. My pain could be your gain though. Enter the Rafflecopter below to enter!

Guest Post: Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral foundation review

Hey everyone! I’m Monica, the 17-year old blogger from called Glitz n Glamour Makeup! I first wanted to that Brittany for allowing me to do a guest review!

The product I’m reviewing today is called Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral foundation. Typically $13.99 at drugstores it’s a bit expensive, but it was 75% off at my local CVS and I couldn’t resist picking it up :)

One of my favorite parts about this foundation is it comes with a little brush included in the lid! This makes it super convenient if you travel a lot or tend to lose things like me! The included brush was actually pretty high quality, surprisingly, and I really didn’t notice a difference between that and the one I usually use.

The foundation looks like a fairly typical powder foundation….so why is it called “aqua” foundation?? I had assumed it just meant it was moisturizing/non drying. However, it literally feels like you’re putting water on your face! It’s so bizarre, and definitely took some getting used to.

The foundation blends really well also. I tried to leave a sharp line here so you could see the foundation swatched on my hand. It looks a lot lighter than my skin, and that’s because my face is a lot paler than the rest of me. The foundation has a slight shimmer in it, which doesn’t bother me at all, but if you’re rather particular about your foundations you may not like that.

This is me wearing the Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral foundation on the left side of the picture, bare skin on the right. As you can see, the left side has less shine and redness than the right, and also less of an undereye circle.

I would consider this to be a light coverage foundation. It lasted for about 7 hours on me, which I thought was pretty good. It feels really natural, and hasn’t caked or anything even if I layer it a lot. Overall, I would recommend it if you’re looking for a foundation that won’t dry you out and looks natural. I think it’s great for summer because it’s always good to go light on the makeup when it’s hot out!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB review – A BB Cream for brown skin!

This BB Cream thing has been taking over the world. Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit but people are seriously obsessed with this new phenomena. But wait – the thing is, BB Creams aren’t that new. Blemish Balms have been alive and well for many years in East and Southeast Asia. Oh yes, my Asian sisters have been loving them some BB Cream. Last year, the first few BB Creams started hitting shelves in the U.S. and I’ve been ignoring them.

Why? Because most of them didn’t have shades for those of us with darker skin. Um, wha? I did further research to discover that one of the properties in tradition BB Creams are whitening agents. Okay, I get it. I’m a proud brown girl with no desire to lighten my skin and so I’m glad to know that some of the BB Creams in the U.S. markets don’t contain whitening agents. At least Maybelline’s doesn’t…

I’ll be reviewing this BB Cream based on what THIS brand’s promises to do. I realize that BB Creams overseas may have different functions but for the sake of this review, I’ll focus on if Maybelline’s does what it says it’s going to do.

Properties of the Dream Fresh BB

1. Blurs imperfections
2. Brightens
3. Evens skin-tone
4. Smoothes
5. Hydrates
6. Enhances
7. Protects with SPF 30
8. 0% oils and harsh ingredients

Already I’m impressed. While a foundation assists in protection and smoothing out the skin, I’ve never met one that hydrates and “enhances” my skin.

The first question I asked when I played around with this BB Cream was “Okay sooooo, how does this differ from a tinted moisturizer?” Legit question, right? In addition to the properties being different (most tinted moisturizers don’t claim to hydrate the skin over time), the consistency is different too. This BB Creams feels like fluffy ‘n thick water. Crazy description, I know but hear me out. When it goes on the skin it looks and feels just like a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer.

Spread it out a bit and it sinks right into the skin. It feels gloriously hydrating and is perfect for those of us with dry skin. Fret not those of y’all with oiler skin…this light coverage cream isn’t the least bit oily so I reckon it’ll work for all of us with various skin types. Maybelline calls this formula a oil-free, gelled-water formula and that’s 10x better than my fluffy ‘n thick water description.

I’ve been testing this BB Cream for 3 weeks and it’s a pleasure applying and wearing it. I don’t get fancy with brushes it. I simply apply it with my finger tips, make sure I’ve got even coverage and move on. I will say that I would have liked a little more coverage. This is the ideal product for those who don’t wear much of anything on their skin but still want tiny coverage AND SPF.

Pros
-For those who’d rather not wear foundations (that’s me!) this is great and lightweight.
-I love the added SPF
-Fragrance-free
-Comes in 5 shades (Light, Light/Medium, Medium, Medium/Deep and Deep. While these shades don’t cover the rainbow of women, it does better than most brands. I’m wearing Deep.
-Works well on top of concealers.

Cons
-If you desire serious coverage, this may disappoint you.
-I didn’t notice many changes in my skin with prolonged use.
-Retails for $8.99 so it may be pricey to some. Especially since the tube isn’t THAT big.

A Rose Is Still A Rose. And I smell like one!

Remember that song “Roses” the rap group Outkast had back in the day? I used to looooove that song. That whole Speakboxx/The Love Below album was jammin’ in my car the entire year I was in 11th grade. Oh. Don’t even ask me what the Outkast reference has to do with JASON Pure Natural Rosewater Body Wash. I’m random like that.

You’ve heard of the brand JASON, haven’t you? I spot this brand alllll the time at Whole Foods and other natural food stores and shops. This is my first time playing around with one of their body washes.

I’ve never been a gal who likes floral fragrances. I’m more of a woody blend mixed with citrus notes kind of woman. But this wash, dare I say it, ain’t too bad. This ginormous 30 oz bottle retails for $13.99 which means the entire family can use it daily and it will STILL last for a few weeks. Well, months for Esposo and I since we are the only ones who use our bathroom.

And that’s another thing – as nice as this body wash smells, it’s so floral that the same men who don’t mind a little dirt under their fingernails, proooobably won’t like how “girly” it smells. And it definitely smells girly.

Pro’s
-It’s got a pump! Makes for super easy dispensing.
-It has a nice and gentle formula.
-Lathered up nice and foam-y.
-Rinsed with ease and didn’t leave the skin insanely dry. Thanks to the Vitamin E!
-Free from parabens
-Fragrance isn’t too strong after rinsing off. Which I appreciate.

Con’s
-The fragrance is a bit too strong for me. Then again, most fragrances are. I see “Fragrance” on the Ingredients list and I wish the only “fragrance” that was included only came from real roses.
-It definitely isn’t portable. But that may be a good thing.
-The price point may be too much for some.

There’s a first time for everything and while I’ve spritzed rose water in my hair and have used rose water as a toner, I’ve never used an actual rose body wash. The fragrance took a bit to grow on me but now I’ve been using it daily.

Whatcha think? Would you bust suds with rose body wash?

You can get this one from natural retailers and online at JASON-Natural.com.
