Giveaway! Braun Silk-épil 5 Young Beauty epilator!

I’m keepin’ it real up in this post. Then again, I pride myself on being that way in all of my posts. I mean, seriously…if I wanted to be all “proper” in the way that I wrote, I would have finished grad school, right? Hmph. So yeah. A few weeks ago, I was granted the opportunity to review the Braun Silk-épil 5 Young Beauty epilator. Don’t y’all laugh but while I’ve heard of an epilator, I never really knew what they did. In my mind, I figured that were similar to electric razors but that’s as much as I knew.

After doing some research, I discovered that epilators were the choice devices in hair removal for many women. And for good reason. Epilators quickly removing unwanted hair from the root effortlessly making it 10x better than shaving. I’ve never done any waxing (oh, except my brows) but using an epilator is supposed to be easier than waxing because you don’t have to deal with the clean up. Plus, those that use epilators say that it takes so much longer for the hair to grow back then it does when shaving. Which, for me, is a total perk and it was the one of the main reasons I couldn’t WAIT to try my epilator.

And tried I did.

With its many positives, there is one downfall to the epilator. The pain aspect. Mind you, I am a woman that knows pain. I endure excruciating migraines regularly, have had menstrual cramps from hell, have several tattoos and piercings and have broken a number of fingers during childhood. Shots in the gums, bum and arm don’t scare me either. I thought I’d be a good candidate for the epilator since my pain tolerance is pretty high.

Girl, I couldn’t do it.

I tried a total of 6 times to use the epilator and each time I winced in pain. I tried using it on my underarms AND legs and had such a hard time finishing. I decided that the pain wasn’t worth it. After all, I’m a woman that doesn’t freak out over a little stubble. We’re human. We’re mammals. We grow hair. I’m okay with that.

But despite my painful experience with the epilator, I still wanted to grant one of my readers with the opportunity to try one out. One of my greatest friends can’t stop raving about hers and has told me that while it is painful in the beginning, it does get easier. Apparently, I am too much of a punk to keep trying to get to that “easier” point. Oh well.

Maybe you’ll be a bigger woman than me. Braun is sponsoring this giveaway and 1 lucky gal will get 1 Braun Silk-épil 5 Young Beauty epilator.

This epilator comes with so many fantastic bells and whistles and I wish my cry baby self could stop whinning and get to using. My pain could be your gain though. Enter the Rafflecopter below to enter!

Guest Post: Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral foundation review

Hey everyone! I’m Monica, the 17-year old blogger from called Glitz n Glamour Makeup! I first wanted to that Brittany for allowing me to do a guest review!

The product I’m reviewing today is called Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral foundation. Typically $13.99 at drugstores it’s a bit expensive, but it was 75% off at my local CVS and I couldn’t resist picking it up :)

One of my favorite parts about this foundation is it comes with a little brush included in the lid! This makes it super convenient if you travel a lot or tend to lose things like me! The included brush was actually pretty high quality, surprisingly, and I really didn’t notice a difference between that and the one I usually use.

The foundation looks like a fairly typical powder foundation….so why is it called “aqua” foundation?? I had assumed it just meant it was moisturizing/non drying. However, it literally feels like you’re putting water on your face! It’s so bizarre, and definitely took some getting used to.

The foundation blends really well also. I tried to leave a sharp line here so you could see the foundation swatched on my hand. It looks a lot lighter than my skin, and that’s because my face is a lot paler than the rest of me. The foundation has a slight shimmer in it, which doesn’t bother me at all, but if you’re rather particular about your foundations you may not like that.

This is me wearing the Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral foundation on the left side of the picture, bare skin on the right. As you can see, the left side has less shine and redness than the right, and also less of an undereye circle.

I would consider this to be a light coverage foundation. It lasted for about 7 hours on me, which I thought was pretty good. It feels really natural, and hasn’t caked or anything even if I layer it a lot. Overall, I would recommend it if you’re looking for a foundation that won’t dry you out and looks natural. I think it’s great for summer because it’s always good to go light on the makeup when it’s hot out!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB review – A BB Cream for brown skin!

This BB Cream thing has been taking over the world. Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit but people are seriously obsessed with this new phenomena. But wait – the thing is, BB Creams aren’t that new. Blemish Balms have been alive and well for many years in East and Southeast Asia. Oh yes, my Asian sisters have been loving them some BB Cream. Last year, the first few BB Creams started hitting shelves in the U.S. and I’ve been ignoring them.

Why? Because most of them didn’t have shades for those of us with darker skin. Um, wha? I did further research to discover that one of the properties in tradition BB Creams are whitening agents. Okay, I get it. I’m a proud brown girl with no desire to lighten my skin and so I’m glad to know that some of the BB Creams in the U.S. markets don’t contain whitening agents. At least Maybelline’s doesn’t…

I’ll be reviewing this BB Cream based on what THIS brand’s promises to do. I realize that BB Creams overseas may have different functions but for the sake of this review, I’ll focus on if Maybelline’s does what it says it’s going to do.

Properties of the Dream Fresh BB

1. Blurs imperfections
2. Brightens
3. Evens skin-tone
4. Smoothes
5. Hydrates
6. Enhances
7. Protects with SPF 30
8. 0% oils and harsh ingredients

Already I’m impressed. While a foundation assists in protection and smoothing out the skin, I’ve never met one that hydrates and “enhances” my skin.

The first question I asked when I played around with this BB Cream was “Okay sooooo, how does this differ from a tinted moisturizer?” Legit question, right? In addition to the properties being different (most tinted moisturizers don’t claim to hydrate the skin over time), the consistency is different too. This BB Creams feels like fluffy ‘n thick water. Crazy description, I know but hear me out. When it goes on the skin it looks and feels just like a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer.

Spread it out a bit and it sinks right into the skin. It feels gloriously hydrating and is perfect for those of us with dry skin. Fret not those of y’all with oiler skin…this light coverage cream isn’t the least bit oily so I reckon it’ll work for all of us with various skin types. Maybelline calls this formula a oil-free, gelled-water formula and that’s 10x better than my fluffy ‘n thick water description.

I’ve been testing this BB Cream for 3 weeks and it’s a pleasure applying and wearing it. I don’t get fancy with brushes it. I simply apply it with my finger tips, make sure I’ve got even coverage and move on. I will say that I would have liked a little more coverage. This is the ideal product for those who don’t wear much of anything on their skin but still want tiny coverage AND SPF.

-For those who’d rather not wear foundations (that’s me!) this is great and lightweight.
-I love the added SPF
-Comes in 5 shades (Light, Light/Medium, Medium, Medium/Deep and Deep. While these shades don’t cover the rainbow of women, it does better than most brands. I’m wearing Deep.
-Works well on top of concealers.

-If you desire serious coverage, this may disappoint you.
-I didn’t notice many changes in my skin with prolonged use.
-Retails for $8.99 so it may be pricey to some. Especially since the tube isn’t THAT big.

A Rose Is Still A Rose. And I smell like one!

Remember that song “Roses” the rap group Outkast had back in the day? I used to looooove that song. That whole Speakboxx/The Love Below album was jammin’ in my car the entire year I was in 11th grade. Oh. Don’t even ask me what the Outkast reference has to do with JASON Pure Natural Rosewater Body Wash. I’m random like that.

You’ve heard of the brand JASON, haven’t you? I spot this brand alllll the time at Whole Foods and other natural food stores and shops. This is my first time playing around with one of their body washes.

I’ve never been a gal who likes floral fragrances. I’m more of a woody blend mixed with citrus notes kind of woman. But this wash, dare I say it, ain’t too bad. This ginormous 30 oz bottle retails for $13.99 which means the entire family can use it daily and it will STILL last for a few weeks. Well, months for Esposo and I since we are the only ones who use our bathroom.

And that’s another thing – as nice as this body wash smells, it’s so floral that the same men who don’t mind a little dirt under their fingernails, proooobably won’t like how “girly” it smells. And it definitely smells girly.

-It’s got a pump! Makes for super easy dispensing.
-It has a nice and gentle formula.
-Lathered up nice and foam-y.
-Rinsed with ease and didn’t leave the skin insanely dry. Thanks to the Vitamin E!
-Free from parabens
-Fragrance isn’t too strong after rinsing off. Which I appreciate.

-The fragrance is a bit too strong for me. Then again, most fragrances are. I see “Fragrance” on the Ingredients list and I wish the only “fragrance” that was included only came from real roses.
-It definitely isn’t portable. But that may be a good thing.
-The price point may be too much for some.

There’s a first time for everything and while I’ve spritzed rose water in my hair and have used rose water as a toner, I’ve never used an actual rose body wash. The fragrance took a bit to grow on me but now I’ve been using it daily.

Whatcha think? Would you bust suds with rose body wash?

You can get this one from natural retailers and online at

7 Skincare Products You Maaaay Want to Check Out

Yep, I’m still on the #-thing. What can I say? Moving has fried my brain and creatively I’ve just been reached an insane amount of Writer’s Block. But at least I’m cranking out somethin’, uh? Give a sista some props!

So we all know how much I love me some skincare. It comes before makeup and always will.Life is better when my skin is clearer and I’ve always felt more confident when I know my skin is acting halfway decent. Which, of course, is a rarity. Check out some of the past few skincare products that I’ve reviewed. Some I loved and others kinda sucked. Either way, you know I’m keepin’ it real.

Chocolate & Stawberry Facial Mask

It’s not every day that you see masks that contain the same ingredients as products you may find in your kitchen. The color of this mask is less to be desired but if you don’t have super dry skin, it may be something you’ll want to try.

NARS Makeup Removing Water

Is it a toner? Is it a cleanser? Does it really remove makeup thoroughly? Can you use it instead of washing your face at night? So many questions come attached with this bottle of wah-tuh.

Neutrogena Naturals

A drugstore skincare line that omits the yucky ingredients? Yes girl. Rarely do we see this from a major skincare line. And while it has its flaws, for the most part, Neutrogena Naturals products are wonderful. Especially for those with sensitive skin.

LUSH Dark Angels Facial Charcoal Cleanser

Because CAN use a product that will make your skin look dirty but it will actually cleanse it. This is one interesting product. I’ll tell you one thing – it works beautifully but honey, you better hold your breath while using it. It’s a funky chunk of somethin’.

Burt’s Bees gud

Is gud good? I had a lot of good things to say about this brand but there were some downfalls too. Ah yes. Such is life.

Bliss Rubberizing Mask

I’ve seen them all. Clay masks, seaweed masks, honey masks but a rubberizing mask? Girl, I couldn’t make this up if I tried…

Nuance Salma Hayek’s Facial Cleansing Towelettes

Too lazy to actually wash your face? It happens. Thank goodness for these towelettes! Because you do know NOT washing your face shouldn’t be an option, right?

St. Ives new Scrub-Free Exfoliating Pads. Are they hot or not?

I’ve been a die hard fan of St. Ives skincare products for I don’t know hooooow long. Even before I was a beauty blogger, I was hoarding St. Ives stuffs like it was a job. And ever since they started omitted harsh ingredients from their products, well, I love ’em even more.

Good ole’ St. Ives has recently launched these Scrub-Free Exfoliating Pads and of course I’ll had to check ’em out.

Peep the stats:

  • First mass-market brand exfoliating pads with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)
  • Formulated with 100% natural lactic acid
  • Only $4.99 and you get 60 pads
  • Exfoliates to reveal smoother, younger-looking skin in just 7 days

Well. These extreme claims of promising to provide younger-looking skin in just 7 days had me on my toes. I think I look like a youthful 27 years old but I’ll take 24-year old skin any day. 😀 I gave these pads a whirl for exactly 7 days and welllllll, they have their ups and downs.

For one, I LOVE the fact that you get 60 pads for under $5. That’s pretty dynamic considering you really only need 1 pad per cleaning. Now, if you use these TWICE a day then you’re average at least 60 a month which still isn’t that bad. I think these are ideal for traveling. You can just pop ’em in a carry-on, suitcase or tote and you won’t have to worry about them spilling. Because I’m that nut that ALWAYS ends up spilling a face wash or shampoo in her luggage.

So yeah, portable and spill-proof products are definitely for me. On the downside, I’m not sure how effective these are at really cleansing the skin. Sure, they feel good but I didn’t get that streaky clean feeling I love to feel after washing my face. Oh! And I so think the product name is weird. When you think of exfoliating, you think of scrubbing beads or somethin’ like that, right? Well nope…the pads are smooth. It’s the ingredients that provide an exfoliating experience. But then it says scrub-free. Huh? So yeah, I get it, but I think the language may throw you off if you’re taking a quick glance of this in drugstores. Reading thoroughly is indeed fundamental.

-Affordable and easy to find
-It’s paraben-free

-They aren’t unscented but the light fragrance that they provide isn’t too overwhelming
-Pads are lint-free and smooth.
-One pad should be good enough for the face and neck.
-While you may want to use a makeup remover prior to these, they do a great job at removing face makeup like light foundation, powders and blushes.
-Those with dry skin will love how moisturizing this is.

-It’s a bit drippy. Which is good because you get more than enough cleanser but bad because it can be a bit messy.
-The pads are hard to pull apart. Each time I used ’em, I’d grab 2-3 and then had to spend a few seconds pulling them apart.

2-3 pads…

1 pad…

-Didn’t really change the appearance of my skin in 7 days. But then again, despite the claims, I didn’t expect it to.
-My skin didn’t feel ultra clean. I still felt like I needed to follow up with another cleanser. Then again, I’m not really sure if it’s a cleanser or not. Maybe this is something you use AFTER you wash your face? I’m not sure.

Are these ideal for me for every day use? Probably not. I like the skin drying-type clean and these didn’t give it to me. But I’ll still be carrying them with me when I travel. I can be a lazy somethin’ when travelin’ and skincare wipes and pads that help me remove the days’s gunk without turning on some water are sooooo up my alley.

Oh, and this warning was on so it’s definitely something to take heed to,

“This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.”

ETA: Look what else I found per Use on cleansed skin twice daily or as tolerated. In case of contact with eyes, flush thoroughly with water. That changes a lot, uh?

So is just me or am I the only slow bird that thought that these pads would actually be textured to exfoliate? Even though they said “scrub-free”? Whatcha think?

Neutrogena Naturals skincare is awesoooome!

Guess whaaaat? I’ve been testing a new skincare brand and my face hasn’t gone loco. Which is a HUGE deal. I’m pretty dedicated to the same skincare products. When they work, I keep using them. But at the same time I love reviewing skincare products soooooo yeah. I’m such a walking contradiction, uh?

When I was approached with the opportunity to test drive some Neutrogena Naturals products I was like, “Haaaay!”  Any time a huge brand says they’ve gone natural, I feel like it’s my duty to check ’em out. Fo reals.

While I got to dilly and dally in the whole collection, these 4 are my absolute favorites.

The Purifying Facial Cleanser

Ah yessss. When it comes to cleansers, I feel simple is best. Which is why I really loved this one. And what’s the first ingredient on the list?

Water. My skin thanks you for this, Neutrogena. I’ve got normal skin that leans on the dry side so the added dose of moisture from the glycerin helped tremendously. I still get pimples every 2.3 hours and so the Willowbark acting as a natural salicylic acid was niiiiice. This is such a nice and gentle cleanser. While I’d be okay without fragrance, what little bit I did I get wasn’t too overpowering. The cleanser really DOES cleanse. It would probably be more suitable for those with oilier skin but I enjoy using it anyway. And I’m all for clear cleansers.

Creamier ones aren’t up my alley. And if it’s scrubs that you really like…you’ll love this one.

Purifying Face Scrub

I only use face scrubs once a week or so. I’m impressed with this one. The fragrance mimics the cleanser and it’s a bit on the creamier side with nice itty bitty micro-beads.

They do an effective job at scrubbing so long as you put in a little elbow grease. And once you’ve busted suds and you’re ready to put some moisture back in the skin, you’ve got 2 options. You can go with Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer or the Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream.

By day I roll with the Nourishing Moisturizer.

I know when it comes to facial moisturizers, everyooooone has different needs. There’s so much to take into consideration. Will this moisturizer work well with my foundation? Does it have SPF? Is it thick enough? Is it too thick? Is it oily? Is it pore clogging? When it comes to daytime moisturizers, I just need TWO things. 1. I need for it to contain SPF. I live in Florida. 2. I need it to lightweight and gentle. Because, yeah…while my skin is dry after cleansing, I sweat profusely (do I get a cookie for being honest?) and thicker day creams don’t do much for me. This day cream got 1 out of 2 points. I so wish there was a bit of SPF in it. But the silky smooth and gentle formula made up for it.

Yep. It sinks right into my skin without giving me an oily or greasy feeling.

Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream

I never understood the point of night creams but I don’t know…age is making me a wee bit wiser because now I totally get it. This cream provides the same silky smooth feeling except it’s just a wee bit thicker. Which works! It feels decadent and creamy and seemed to work really well with my skin.

I actually look forward to slathering this on at night because ohmigoodness, it just feel SO nice.

Neutrogena Naturals also has a Fresh Cleansing Makeup Remover, Face & Body Bar and a Lip Balm. All of the products are free of harsh chemical sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes and phthalates. Huge, right? If you’ve been looking to green up your skincare regimen, you should totally glance at Neutrogena Naturals.

And speaking of natural living, through Glam Media, I received a bag of eco-friendly natural goodies including a set of Organic Bamboo cooking spoons…

AND, something I’ve been lusting after fo’eva!

A Bobble; the reusable water bottle that filters water by using carbon. Instead of purchasing water bottles, I’ve been using a filter but when I’m out and about and don’t feel so inclined to gag while drinking Orlando’s water (if you’ve tasted it…you know what I mean), I tote the Bobble with me. Genius, I say!

I’m not perfect but I really try to make an effort to live naturally. How?

-I moved closer to my job. Less gas for me and less pollution for Mother Nature.
-I stopped buying water bottles and use reusable bottles.
-I use one killer multiple purpose soap. It not only cleanses face and body but my dishes, clothes and floors.
-I recycle.

Whether it’s greening up your skincare or using eco-friendly products, greener is always better, darlings. Have you spied Neutrogena Naturals in your drugstores?
