GLOSSYBOX April 2014 – Was it worth it?

Another month means another peek at a GLOSSYBOX. I’ve been reviewing these for quite sometime and somehow, it appears that GLOSSYBOX seems to be one of the few beauty subscription boxes that is still a truckin’. The hype has died down for many, but lé gloss is still giving us gorgeous pickings for a smooth $21/month. I received this sample box a week or so ago and as always, the goal is to make sure that the samples provided are worth at least $20 or so. Aaaaand that they give a nice range of products.

GLOSSYBOX USA April 2014

At first glance, nothing stood out to me which was a bit sad as I always look forward to the Ohh La La factor that I get from a GLOSSYBOX.

GLOSSYBOX Ciate

As always, we’ve got 5 samples and that includes the following:

GLOSSYBOX Ciate polish

A bottle of Ciaté London Paint Pot. I’ve heard of this brand but haven’t ever used any of their nail polishes. I do know that they are on the higher end side of things so it’s nice to try a different brand. They regularly retail at $15 a bottle. And the shimmery gold of a shade isn’t too bad either.

GLOSSYBOX Aqua Spa

I’ve never heard of the brand Aqua Spa but their Relax Body Crème is a nice and thick lotion that I found slathered nicely over my dry skin. The lavender scent is nice, but heavily fragranced for me. A 9oz bottle of this regularly retails for $8.

GLOSSYBOX Bellapierre Cosmetics

Helllooooo Bellápierre Cosmetics. Each subscriber got a tube of their Vanilla Pink SUPER Gloss (retails for $24.50) and the cinnamon-y shade, I guess, is a safe shade for everyone. A bit boring for my taste, but I do dig how long it lasts.

It also goes nicely with a brown lip liner.

GLOSSYBOX LaSplash Cosmetics

LA Splash Cosmetics Eyeshadow Sealer/Base is also in the box and outside of getting it in a GLOSSYBOX, you can expect to pay $9 for it. I love a good eyeshadow base but I have never seen one as sheer as LA Splash’s. I can’t wait to see how this works.

GLOSSYBOX Caldrea

…and lastly there is Caldrea Body Wash. An 11oz bottle of this will run you $18. I am loving the travel sized version of their body wash and the scent seems to be subtle enough to keep headaches at bay.

Once again GLOSSYBOX has given us products than more than go over $20. We’ve got a little somethin’ in the skin, makeup and nails department and I’m actually okay with not seeing anything for hair. Because helloooo…those hair products never worked for my hair type anyway. Another score for GLOSSYBOX. Click here to subscribe. That is an affiliate link so if you click it and purchase, I get a few monies. Not enough to retire, but hey…it’s a lil’ somethin’ somethin’. 😎

The Blogger with A Brand: A Girl’s Gotta Spa!

I seriously know the best people. I’m not even kidding. As if being a beauty blogger isn’t hard enough, I know a select few that have launched their own products. How freaking awesome is that? Add A Girl’s Gotta Spa! to the list.

New to the market at only 3 months old, A Girl’s Gotta Spa! products are really a great fit for those of us with skin types. Founder Shannon Smyth has developed such a fantastic formula of ingredients that are fitting for those of us with dry, normal and combination skin. The line currently provides an Energizing Citrus Body Wash ($31) and Energizing Citrus Body Lotion ($33). Both will arrive to you housed in 8 fl oz bottles and you can slather away knowing that you’re supporting a brand that truly cares about the ingredients in its products. And yeah, speaking of the ingredients, Shannon has kept it simple.

In addition to being cruelty-free A Girl’s Gotta Spa products are also vegan and do not contain the following:

  • Sulfates
  • Formaldehyde
  • Parabens
  • Synthetic fragrances
  • Synthetic dyes
  • Petrochemicals

Of course I’m doing cartwheels because I am all for any brand that omits synthetic fragrances. What you’re left with are the healing and moisturizing properties from olive oil, shea buter and cocoa butter in the natural body lotion and a blast of citrusy notes from the body wash.

I’ve got to get my hands on these and not only support my girl but to also pamper my skin without having to worry about the crazy chemicals that tend to make my skin go crazy. And what better way to gift a mama this Mother’s Day than with products that were MADE by a mama. C’mon…who doesn’t love the gift of luxury bath products?

4 Reasons Why I Like Being On the JOHNSON’s Baby Cares Council

Okay, so don’t hate me for it but a few months ago I went to NYC and totally forgot to tell y’all about it. I know, I’m horrible. The JOHNSON’S Baby Cares family sent me to NYC to visit one of their home bases and while there I not only got the opportunity to hang with some of my favorite fellow bloggers, but also learned about the brand’s newest launches, got to speak with some of their scientists AND I got an idea as to what other cool things the brand had going on. It was an exciting 2 days and gave me more of a reason to be proud to be a member of the Council.

And yeah, I know I’m supposed to be that natural mama who had a drug-free birth, ate her placenta, pledges allegiance to coconut oil and drinks her greens and there’s just no way I should be supporting a brand like JOHNSON’s but give me a second to explain why I do support them, mkay?

They don’t mind changing

Recently JOHNSON’s has reformulated some of their products to remove many of the not so good ingredients. This a HUGE deal. Mainly because, helllooo…it requires the scientists to work diligently to provide the same product but use different formulas. Everything has to look the same including the color, scent and touch. It’s a gruesome job that many companies won’t even think about doing, but JOHNSON’S did and while many of the products still aren’t perfect to many, they are better.

They tell you what’s in the products

This is kinda cool because many brands don’t. Some brands will say “Natural ingredients”. Ummm….what? Excuse me but WHAT natural ingredients? Details are important. Especially when it comes to baby products. JOHNSON’s has nothing to hide and will lay out what each ingredient is and why it is used in a product.

Johnson's Baby

They have products for us crunchy mamas

Not gonna lie – I’ve never used the pink baby lotion on Elle because while it does smell good, we are a fragrance-free home. For me, fragrances trigger headaches. JOHNSON’s Naturals has products that remove the overpowering fragrances but still ensures that the pH level is where it should be for a baby’s delicate skin. So yes, I will firmly admit that it was this line that completely won me over for the brand.

They support women and mothers.

I know you’re all like “Whaaaatver B! All of these companies claim  tosupport women.” So maybe you’re right. Many may claim that they do but JOHNSON puts their money (literally) where their mouth is. From joining Save the Children to help babies everywhere, launching the Care Cards campaign and making the You’re Doing OK, Mom” video, at the very least, the company does a good job at pretending to love and support women and mothers. Of course, I know they are doing more than pretending because I have actually talked with the men and women behind the brand and I don’t know. I refuse to believe that they’d invest their time and lives in sending such a resounding message that women and mothers deserve help, recognition and love. I can’t be that naive. Right?

I could really go on and on but you can look forward to seeing more posts of different (not so baby-esqe) ways to use the products and some of the other awesome products that JOHNSON’s has that may appeal to my fellow fitness guy and girls.

The Unexpected Greatness of Biore’s Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser

The other week I made an unexpected trip to my sister’s house in Orlando. With only minutes to pack before Grand Mama Clumps was ready to get on the road, I forgot just about everything. I forgot face wash, make-up, and lotion. Thankfully I was going to a house that was filled with all 3 of those necessities. Brittany had a sample of Biore’s Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser and I couldn’t wait to try it.

I like to use the same face wash ( Cetaphil) because I am always fearful of different products breaking out my skin. I saw the Deep Pore Cleanser and I wasn’t too thrilled about it, but because I didn’t have any other face wash and I could NOT go an entire weekend without washing my face, I took a risk and tried it.

From the moment I put it on my skin, I was in love. Charcoal naturally draws out all the impurities in your skin and gives you fresh clean feel and look. This is one of those products that I would use after a night of wearing heavy make-up or after a work-out when you are all nice and sweaty.

It will open up those clogged pores and hopefully prevent pimples. That said, it’s great stuff and I’m so glad that I gave it a try! The Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser is available at ULTA, Target, CVS and drugstores nationwide for around $6.

Do you see yourself using a charcoal cleanser?
