Makeup Wars: The Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette is Purrrfect!

Too Faced Cat Eyes palette

This darling little palette arrived on my door step last week and I squealed. This press sample of Too Faced’s Cat Eyes palette look ordinary at first glance, but I don’t know – this palette is really very nice and SO wearable for women and all shades. Of course I always try to do my due diligence in making sure that a palette is brown girl friendly and this one IS!

Too Faced Cat Eyes

Too Faced has been cranking out so many palettes this season and I’m thinking Cat Eyes is the most wearable, versatile and has the cutest package! I mean, have you seen how darling it is?

Too Faced Cat Eyes eyeshadow palette

It’s sweet, y’all. I am working on a look using this palette but for now, I’m giving you swatches and a video review.

The shadows are buttery smooth and just perfect. Check out a look that I created in my video review….

One day I will be patient and skilled enough to do a tutorial but y’all, I’ve had Elle home with me all week and um, try doing makeup with at toddler AND a tripod around. I triple dog dare you! It just doesn’t happen. Plus, we are out of town and visiting family in Virginia so who knows? Maybe I’ll return home with the burning desire to do a tutorial. But fear not as several of my Makeup Wars sisters have cranked out gorgeous tutorials using the Too Faced Cat Eyes palette. Enjoyyyy!!!

Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick…whooooa!

I’ve been wanting to buy Too Faced’s Melted lipsticks forever. I tried to ignore them. I told myeslf that I would hardly use them and that they weren’t really THAT unique.

Too Faced Melted

I lied to myself. And last weekend, I finally bit the bullet and purchased one. I was trying to be modest and hoard them all but really it was the Melted Fuchsia that called my name. Have you girls tried it? Ohmigoooodness.

Too Faced Melted Fuchsia
I’m pretty sure this shade will look gorgeous on just about anyone who wears it. It is indeed a very BRIGHT fuchsia but it somehow flatters me as it has nice blue undertones. And as all of the reviews have claimed, these Melted thingies wear very well. Do yourself a favor and exfoliate your lips if you find them cracking. These babies tend to seep into every crack and crease. The smell reminds me of Play-Doh but it doesn’t bother me. Honestly, I’ll take Play-Doh scents any day over floral or vanilla scents.

DSC_2828

Too Faced said that these lippies should have “the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick.” Very interesting concept and one that I don’t think I’ve heard of before. The applicator has makes applying it easy.

Too Faced Melted applicator

I was shocked at how opaque this is, but that’s a good thing! It feels very light on the lips and really does last for quite some time. If you’re eating and manage to wipe your mouth, you will likely wipe off the color but yep, you’re left with just a little bit of staining.

It does surprisingly well and I’m trying to figure out which bill I shouldn’t pay so that I can buy some of these babies. Haha! Just kidding.

Maybe.

Seriously, though…at $21 they aren’t cheap but they are so worth the price and I don’t think I’ve come across a lip product that has gotten me THIS excited in soooo long. So yeah, girl. I’ll be wearing this lippy foreeeeeever.

Have you tried Too Faced’s Melted lippies yet? Check ‘em out here.

The Bronzer That Is Sweet Enough To Eat. Almost.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil

Bronzer season is in session and I couldn’t be happier! I got a sample of this Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer from Too Faced a few months back and with it came their darling little kabuki brush.

Too Faced kabuki brush

Too Faced CHOCOLATE SOLEIL MATTE BRONZER

First of all, can we talk about how much I still need to get that Chocolate Bar Palette in my life? Have you seen it? And part of the reason why I want it so much is because of the packaging. Yeah, I’m pretty sure the shadows are nice and the diversity of the shadows are great, but how wonderful is that palette? Cute stuff, yo. But it’s the bronzer that we’re talking about.

Too Faced matte bronzer

It’s not easy to wear matte bronzers. Especially if you’re like me and have pretty noticeable pores. But Too Faced did a bang up job with this one.

Too Faced Chocolate matte bronzer

The formulation promises to neutralize red and even skin tone and it has actual cocoa powder in it. Which is pretty cool, right? This Medium/Deep bronzer will likely work will for chicas a smidge lighter than me and maybe those a tad bit darker than me. I’m just excited to see a bronzer this dark and complementing for my complexion.

Bronzer swatch

I also love the absence of shimmer. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I love a dose of gold in bronzers but it’s refreshing to see one that I can wear confidently and not have to worry about the disco ball effect.

Bronzer on cheeks

It’s one of those bronzers that goes nicely with my powder makeup routine. I’m a fan and for $30, it’s a steal.

Sweet stuff! Have you tried anything from Too Faced’s Chocolate collection?

Makeup Wars: 5 Wearable Nude Lipsticks for Brown Girls

The slacker in me almost missed out on joining in on this Makeup Wars post. But dude…nude? I HAD to jump in and represent for the dark brown girls that feel as if they can’t wear nudes comfortably.

Nude Lipstick.jpg

Truthfully, though? Nudes aren’t favorite. I hardly tango with any of mine. Why wear nude when you can wear red, hot pink or…orange? But lemme tell you, a good nude paired with a gorgeous and vibrant eye is stunning. Nudes have their place in the makeup world and I’m glad to see that I’ve got a nice little selection of ‘em.

Nude Lipstick on Black Woman

Even if I don’t show them much love. Who knows…maybe after seeing all of these nudes, I’ll be inspired to wear them more often. Maybe. But first, check out 5 of my favorite nude lipsticks…

DSC_4667

Clinique’s Curviest Caramel is the way I like my nudes. It leans a bit more on the pink side but is still described as a nude. It doesn’t have too much white in it to where I feel like a corpse. And it’s definitely one of those interview friendly shades.

Hey there, Tarte Inspired. Don’t hate me for not having a single picture of that lippy but dang…I love it. Inspired comes from Tarte’s Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipsticks and while the formula on these are a bit thick and strange, Inspired is truly one nude that I can stand by.

DSC_1782

Too Faced’s Spice Spice Baby is one of those nudes that at first glance looks “Blech!” but then when applied you’re all like “Dayuuuuuum!” It is one nude that I don’t have to do any doctoring to. It is perfect without any liner or glosses. It is truly the ideal nude lipstick for my dark brown sisters.

Too Faced Taffy

Also from Too Faced is Taffy, a pink marshmallow nude. This is the most recent nude featured on Clumps and it is by far one of my favorites.

MAC Lollipop Loving

MAC’s Lollipop Loving (from the Heatherette collection, who remembers that?) is like a blast from the past. I can’t believe I still have this lipstick. I’m questioning if it is even safe to use considering I’ve had it for so many years. Welp, whatever. I have rediscovered this lipstick and I am in loooove with its frosty pink-y nude finish with  just a touch of chartreuse shimmer. Some frosts are so totally 90’s but when lined with MAC’s Chestnut, this lippy is some kind of wonderful.

Do you have a favorite nude? Tell me! I really should add more to my collection. In the meantime, check out the nude lippies that my Makeup Wars sisters loved…

4 Reasons Why Too Faced’s La Creme Lipsticks Rock

So apparently I never featured these gorgeous Too Faced La Creme lipsticks. Lame. I mean, I’ve reviewed some of the shades before but these 4 are perfect in every way. I got press samples of them many moons ago so please forgive me for just now showin’ you their fierceness.

Too Faced La Creme

I won’t bore you with the details. Just know that these lipsticks are insanely moisturizing. Too Faced said that they’re “oozing with lip-conditioning hydrators” and that’s the perfect way to put it. I’m so used to having to wear a balm under lipsticks, but you’ll be happy to know that you can just rock these solo.

Too Faced La Creme lipsticks

Yes, girl. Yes.

Too Faced Bon Bon

Too Faced Bon Bon Lipstick

Bon Bon is a pink papaya that I really want to love on me but alas, corals like a bit off on me unless I pair them with darker lip liners.

Too Faced Taffy Lipstick

Too Faced Taffy

Taffy is a pink marshmallow nude and I wanted to hate this at first sight because it really is far too pink for me but Taffy combined with a dark brown lip liner is absolutely stunning. No lies!

Too Faced Lollipop Lipstick

Too Faced Lollipop

Lollipop is my favorite (obvs) because I’m a girl who loves her purple-y magenta shades. This violet has an orchid shimmer and it’s one of those lippies that anyone can rock and look fabulous. Love!

Too Faced Pink Chocolate Lipstick

Too Faced Pink Chocolate

Pink Chocolate is another one of those “meh” shades at first glance, but it does surprisingly well against my chocolate skin. I’m a fan of this berry brown.

Retailing for $22 each, these lippies are on the pricier side but worth it if you’ve got the extra pennies. Lollipop is a staple in my purse and Taffy is my go to for a nude lip.

Come on, Too Faced! Give me mooooAR shades!

Mascara Monday: Too Faced Better Than False Lashes mascara

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes

Ohmigoodness. Seriously? Seriously?!! Why didn’t anyone tell me about this mascara? I mean, I knew about its release and I know I’ve been a bit behind with this whole blogging thing, but I recently got a press sample of it and someone should have totally told me about this mascara months ago. Because, woooooow. I am just….wow.

Can I just be lazy and do a blog post about a mascara and say “Wow”? Would y’all still love me if I did that?

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes mascara

I don’t think you would. Okay, then…full review it is, then.

Price: $35 from Sephora and  from TooFaced.com.
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4.5 out of 5

What It Claims: “This no-glue, totally glam-azing formula lets you have all the drama of false lashes in an easy, safe, 3-step process.” (source)

The Truth: I have never seen anything like this. And yes, that’s a good thing but wow…I wonder why more people aren’t talking about this mascara.

What I Loved About It: While at first glance it may appear intimidating, it is actually very easy to use.

What I Didn’t Like: I don’t think it provides as much volume as it “could” but that’s okay. What it can do in the lengthening department completely rocked my world.

Overall: So I’m still just wee bit shocked that this mascara isn’t more popular. I’m thinking the price tag of $35 is the reason but c’mon…I see higher-end brands that always price their mascaras at that price. This is out of the ordinary for Too Faced, and honestly, I’m starting to see why they can justify a hefty price tag for this mascara. It really is THAT awesome.

I won’t write a book here but I do want to quickly go through how this works. You ready?

  • The mascara comes with 2 separate wands. Each are labeled so that you know when to use them.
  • You a thin coat of the first mascara. This acts as a sticky base.
  • You then apply the second mascara. The second mascara looks like a tube of lint (no really, it does).
  • You then apply a second coat of the first mascara.

Let’s take a look at these wands…

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes wands

They both are nice and long and will easily comb through lashes. This, I believe, is a very important aspect in this system. Sephora has a really good breakdown for what the system actually does.

The activating mascara base and top coat is designed specifically to melt and seal the Flexistretch nylon fibers into long, thick, dramatic lashes without the risk, mess, or commitment of other false lash alternatives. Unlike traditional fiber mascaras, Better Than False Lashes allows you to dial up the lengthening fibers so you easily get better, longer, thicker, more dramatic lashes instantly. (source)

In a sense, it is A LOT like a fiber mascara. Remember those? They were pretty big around in 2012 and 2013 but have fallen off of the grid a bit. I’ve always loved them and I hate that they aren’t as popular but I am loving Too Faced’s rendition of a fiber mascara. Having a mascara tube of the “fibers” is just genius because it allows to place it anywhere on your lashes.

Too Faced BEtter Than False Lashes Step 1

A second coat of the mascara turns the white fibers black and they blend in nicely and look, yes, like false lashes but…naturally. I love it!

Too Faced BEtter Than False Lashes step 2

The biggest downfall is that if your goal is to achieve thick and luscious lashes, it may be hard to do with this as getting the fibers close to the base of your lashes may result in fiber thingies falling into your eyes.

And removal is super easy. It’s just like removing a fiber mascara. You wet your fingertips and gently massage the lashes. This also means that you won’t have any issues with smudging or flaking so…yay!

And that makes me sad because y’all know how much I love Drag Queen lashes.

Too Faced mascara

Do I recommend it?: I do! Especially if you need something new in your mascara collection. While some may find it tricky or necessary, I loved how much longer this mascara made my lashes. Isn’t ideal to use in pinch (or for reapplication) but if you’ve got 5 minutes, extra pennies and want to seriously lengthen your lashes, you will LOVE this mascara.

So um…why didn’t any of you tell me how awesome this mascara was? I thought you were friends. I have a sad.

The Sweetest Blushes ever…by Too Faced

Too Faced's Sweethearts blush

So a few weeks ago Too Faced put out some hints about their Haute Chocolate collection and the beauty blogosphere went crazy. Especially over their Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette. Granted I need more palettes like I need more nail polish (which means I REALLLLY need) but honey, this palette gives me life. I don’t have my hands on it yet but I like to be a big tease so when these landed in my mailbox, I couldn’t help but share ‘em with y’all.

Too Faced Sweethearts blush

These Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blushes are the newest shades of the Flush Blush line. And they’re fantastic.

Too Faced Something About Berry

But of course, I would say that. That’s because I love blushes. I mean, LOVE. And the fact that these blushes are housed in cardboard-y heart containers, well…that’s just too cute. Remember when I first featured one here?

Something About Berry

Something About Berry is a deep fuchsia that places the perfect amount of pink on my cheeks. This is my favorite of the two because I find that it’s not only work appropriate but does well for date nights too. Not that Esposo and I regularly go on date nights but I digress.

Too Faced Something About Berry on cheeks

Sweet and unassuming, huh?

Too Faced Peach Beach

Peach Beach, as it sounds, is more of a bronze-y blush and yeah, I know we’re not technically in Spring 2014, but hey…who says you can’t rock glow-y skin year round. Yes, girl. Whoever said that you can’t is lyin’ to you.

Both are fitting and sweet additions to the Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush lineup. They each run for $30 and you can scoop ‘em up at TooFaced.com.

Mascara Monday: Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara

Okay, ignore the fact that I haven’t done in mascara review in over 2 months. I know. Bad blogger. My excuse? I just didn’t feel like it. A little too honest, huh? My bad, y’all. Sometimes I just have to quit doing something for a few weeks and months so I don’t get insanely burned out with it, ya know? But I’m back and like after every hiatus, I am more in love with mascaras. And what better mascara to pull me out of the proverbial shell than this one?

I’m hoping that having the word sex all up and through this blog post won’t send perverted spammers my way. And if that happens, you better believe every sex will be changed to a $ex. So yeah. How blunt is that for a mascara name? You either love it or hate it. I’m a bit of a prude but I am also annoyed at every other mascara with the names like Dramatic Awesome Can’t Believe They’re Really Real Volumizing Wonderbeast so this actually works for me. It’s hard for me to hate a Too Faced product so let’s boogie on down and see how this baby did…

Price: $23 from Sephora and Sephora.com.
Packaging (brush wand): 3.5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “An intensely black, volumizing mascara with an hourglass-shaped brush that separates, coats, and curls each lash to voluptuous perfection. Better Than Sex mascara contains a film-forming polymer for smudge-proof, all day wear and unique peptides for the deepest, intense black possible.” (source)

The Truth: Welllll, it’s not better than sex but it’s a close second. Bahahaaaaa!

What I Loved About It: It gives great volume!

What I Didn’t Like: The wand holds on to A LOT of mascara.

Overall: My mission these days is to provide shorter and to the point reviews. No one wants to read a dissertation on mascara. Not even me. So here goes…this is a GREAT mascara. Too Faced does really well with mascaras so I had high hopes for this one. And it delivered! Lé wand…

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara wand

Now the wand can be a bit tricky. Because it’s more of a brush wand than a plastic wand, the bristles aren’t super stiff. This is great for folx with longer lashes but it kinda sucks for those of us with wonky all over the place lashes. I’m not sure this is the best mascara wand for combing through the lashes. And the wand tends to collect a lot of excess mascara.

But once you get past that, you’ll find a dynamite mascara with amazing volumizing and lengthening power. I really only needed 2 coats of this stuff to have my lashes REALLY stand out. The formula is on the thicker side so pushing it to more than 2 coats may result in clumping. And while I didn’t experience any flaking, I would have loved for this mascara to have a bit more staying power. My lashes didn’t seem as dynamic hours after I applied it. I’m guessing a good waterproof topcoat mascara can alleviate that problem.

Still though…it’s pretty amazing and I will definitely be making this baby my staple mascara for at least a month. Which is a big deal for me.

Mascara on eyes

Do I recommend it?: Absolutely! I just wouldn’t purchase this when you’re out and about with your Grandma because that may make things awkward. Unless your Grandma is extra cool in which case…buy her one too!

Have any of you Too Faced lovers tried this mascara? Will the name of it stop you from buying it?
