Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Basics…is it for the brown girls?

Urban Decay’s Naked 2  Basics palette is here and while I intentionally got excited about it, I’m wondering it will be a great fit for us dark brown girls.

UD Naked Basics 2

“OMG B…who cares?! Can’t you just be happy that UD is giving us a new palette?”

Um yah. I am happy. But I’ll be less happy if I can’t rock it. Just sayin’. I really loved the original Naked Basics palette. In fact, I rediscovered it last week when a friend was visiting and…I let her borrow it.

Anyone have any idea how I can nicely say “Yo chick…give me that palette back!”?

Urban Decay’s lovers wanted MOAR when it came to Naked Basics and so UD has given it to us with cooler hues. These taupe-hued matte eye shadows have never been before so I am excited to get a closer look at them. I’ll admit it, I was a bit disappointed to hear that they were cool, but I don’t know…maaaaaybe they can work for us dark brown girls? I’ll have to see it in person before I judge it.

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2

Retailing for $27 just like its predecessor, I wonder how well Naked 2 Basics will do. We’ll see what the verdict is. I’m thinking more fans will appreciate the versatility of the original better, but time will tell. If you’re ready to ‘gon and purchase it, you can do so here.

What say you? Have you tried the original Naked Basics? And did you like it? Will you be scooping up the sequel?

The Best Black Eyeliners Ever!

Black eyeliners

So I’m not gonna lie…I am pretty boring in the eyeliner world. And it’s not because I work some professional job or that I consider myself to be Mrs. Conservative. Naw. I just really love black eyeliner. I wear it everyday and very rarely will I wear another color. Do I love emerald greens, bright blues and royal purples on my eyes? Yeeeep. But black liner is staple, girl. It just is. This edition of the Makeup Wars, us gals are sharing some of our favorite black eyeliners. I thought I’d stick with my faithful Urban Decay Zero, but really I’ve tried a TON of black eyeliners that I’ve loved.

DSC_0901

They are far from cheap but I can’t get enough of Urban Decay’s pencil eyeliners. Especially that Zero. For some reason, my eyes have gotten really sensitive over the years and the only pencil that I KNOW won’t leave me tearing up is Zero. Oh, and it doesn’t budge. At all. I’ve purchased and repurchased this pencil so many times. Like, you don’t even want to know how many times…

Physicians Formula trio

So they suck in the foundation diversity game, but Physicans Formula makes some realllllly nice eyeliners. Their liquid and pencil eyeliners are pretty cool, but really its their dark and smooth Kohl eyeliner pencil that just makes me go gaga. I can’t get enough of it for when I really want to smoke out my eyes.

Maybelline really gave us a gem when they put put their Eye Studio Ink Pen Eyeliner. The Black version of this liquid eyeliner pencil is spectacular.

A few years back, NYX gave us an entire collection of black liners that I couldn’t get enough of. They were so cool to give us these because each liner has a different formula. Everything from matte to sattin and liquid, NYX had us covered on the black liners front.

When I really want some pop to my upper lashline, I love Essence’s Metallic black eyeliner. It has just a very small amount of shimmer that really makes the eyes stand out. And it’s only $1.99 and does darn good around water and sweaty situations.

Urban Decay Perversion bottle

I did a review on Urban Decay’s Perversion cream liner and I still loving that baby from the moon and back. Other runner ups are Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream in Shade 27 and the cult fave MAC Blacktrack gel liner.

And let’s not forget Milani as they are always there to give us budget-friendly sturdy liners in all shapes and sizes.

Milani Eye Tech Liquid Liner

I could really go on and on, but I’ll stop here and let my girls share with you some of their favorite black eyeliners…

Video Review of the Urban Decay Electric Pigment Palette

Urban Decay Electric Palette video

So I recorded this entire video and it wasn’t until it was uploading on my computer when I realized that I had pink shadow smudged everywhere. And I was too lazy to redo the video. This is why this blog is called Clumps of Mascara. I can make these kind of mistakes because ca-learly my blog isn’t about perfection.

Ah yessssss.

But this palette

Urban Decay Electric Palette

Girl, it’s pretty cool stuff. And I’m a lame for just now showin’ it off but whatever. I received a press sample of it and did lots of swatches showing off how vibrant those shades pop on darker skin. Check out the video and make sure that you’re subscribed. These days I’m cranking out a video once a week which hasn’t happened in like…years. So enjoy it while lasts.

And when you’re done, check out some of my other UD faves…

Mascara Monday: Urban Decay Perversion mascara

Urban Decay Perversion mascara review

A week ago a massive box landed on my doorstep. And yes, you may think this is the norm for a beauty blogger but this box was huge. And inside was a mascara. Okay, so not just a mascara. Urban Decay kindly sent over a darling black bag, some goodies and yeah, a mascara. Perversion mascara doesn’t get released until July 13th and I’m really not a fan of reviewing items that you lovely folx can’t get yet but…forgive me for this one.

I’m telling you now because I REALLY think you’ll want to save your pennies for this baby. Trust me on this.

Urban Decay Perversion mascara

Price: $22 from UrbanDecay.com
Packaging (brush wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What It Claims: Because it is top secret, I don’t have any official claims just yet but I will update this as soon as I find out.

The Truth: N/A

What I Loved About It: I really, really loved how dark this mascara is.

What I Didn’t Like: Like many mascaras that do great at volumizing, if you go overboard, you will endure spider lashes.

Overall: Way to go with this mascara, Urban Decay! I’m thinking this baby will be quite a winner. When you think of the brand UD, you may not always associate them with fantastic mascaras. Which is a shame because they really do have spectacular mascaras. Perversion puts them all to rest, though. I don’t even remember the names of their other mascaras. All I know is Perversion. Let’s talk about the wand first.

UD Perversion mascara

The wand is just okay, to me. I gave it high ratings because while there isn’t any thing spectacular about it, it doesn’t have any flaws in my book, either. UD keeps it simple with a wand that isn’t too narrow but is also wide enough with space in between the bristles to really comb through the lashes. The bristles are also stiff enough to get those bottom lashes.

Formula-wise, we’re working with perfection. It sits comfortably between thick and thin and applying it on the lashes is easy.

And then the application – a swift move through the lashes and after one coat, you are left with insanely pigmented lashes. Which is impressive after only one coat. After applying 2 coats, my lashes reallllly got out there and were lengthened and volumized. A third coat may possibly enter you into Spider Lash territory but with a mascara this good, you really don’t need a third coat.

Also, wear is fantastic and while it isn’t waterproof, I didn’t experience any smudging or flaking throughout the day. It really is an exceptional mascara and best fit for my girls who love dark and lush lashes. You’ll get a good amount of length and great volume but really I think the star quality of this mascara is just how dark your lashes will look. Which is a fantastic quality for a bangin’ eye look. Or you know, every day. If that’s how you roll.

Do I recommend it?: Heck yeah, I do. It is such a great addition to UD’s already stellar Perversion lineup.

Basically you’ll want to snag this mascara. Even if you aren’t an avid mascara wearer. You’ll love this one. And $22 ain’t cheap but you’ve spent more on coffee in a week, right? Well, I haven’t but…yeah. Bookmark this page and on July 13th, order Perversion mascara. Oh and while you are at it, check out some of the other lovely Perversion items that UD has…

The Best Cream Eyeshadow of 2014

Let’s switch it up a bit. How about a post of mostly pictures and very few words?

Eyeliner on waterline

And all about an eyeliner…

Urban Decay Waterproof Cream Eyeliner

I mean, what more is there to say about such an incredible eyeliner?

Top of Urban Decay Perversion

I scooped up Urban Decay’s Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner (whoaaaa, what a mouthful!) a few weeks ago. I’ve been using MAC’s Fluidline in Blacktrak for years. Years. It got all dried up and so I decided to try something new. Something relatively waterproof.

Urban Decay Perversion

Super creamy and doesn’t budge. UD nailed it with this one.

Urban Decay Perversion bottle

It doesn’t flake. And smudges nicely on the lid should you decide to use it as a base. It is such a luscious and creamy dark black.

Urban Decay Perversion cream eyeliner

Almost like a bright black. Does that make sense? Kinda? No. Okay. But you know what I mean, right?

Perversion on finger

Yes, girl. Yas!

Sweet, right? Get Perversion here for $22. And then thank me later.

Ta ta, darlings.

Two Reasons Why Urban Decay Should Give Us More Nail Polishes

Oh dang, Urban Decay…y’all should really do more nail polishes because these two here…

Urban Decay nail polish

Ohmigoodness. They are some kind of awesome. And I’m not just saying that because EVERYTHING Urban Decay makes is awesome. The formula of these are just spectacular and when I got press samples of them, I couldn’t wait to take ‘em for a drive. The outside packaging alone is fierce and wild and everything we would expect from UD.

Urban Decay nail polishes

These limited edition polishes retail for $15 which sits nicely in Urban Decay’s pricing profile. Bang is a bright orange with a subtle iridescent pearl and on the outside it looks all normal and meh.

Urban Decay Bang

But when it hits the nails, that subtle iridescent pearl really shines in and out of light.

Urban Decay Bang nail polish

Gorgeous, right? This shade has been on my toes for a good week now. And then there’s Chaos…

Urban Decay Chaos nail polish

I’ve always appreciated a good cobalt blue and this one doesn’t disappoint. Zoya has quite a few cobalt blue polishes but this one is nice because like Bang, it has that nice pearly iridescence sheen.

Sweetness all around and currently available at UrbanDecay.com.

3 More Reasons To Love Urban Decay…their brushes!

First of all, why am I just now discovering that Urban Decay has amazing brushes? I feel like it’s a little known secret. Do people know how great these brushes are? I mean, my goodness…I feel like shouting it from the rooftops! But I’ll settle for shouting it on my blog instead. I got these for review and can’t stop rolling them over my face.

Urban Decay brushes

They are just so wooooonderful and soft and just…I mean, whoa! What’s to review? Why can’t I just say: “These are awesome. Buy them.”? And leave it at that?

Urban Decay Good Karma brushes in hand

I guess I COULD do that. But y’all would hate me for it, uh? Welp. Okay then…let’s do a quick review of each brush. And let’s start with that Good Karma Blush Brush.

Urban Decay Good Karma blush brush

Cost: $32 from Urban Decay.com.
Intended uses: To be used for applying blush, powders, bronzers and highlighters.
Is it effective?: Absolutely! What a wonderful brush to use daily. It feels incredibly soft and allows for great distribution right up under or on those cheekbones. And did I mention that she feels realllllly soft?

Good Karma Shading Brush

Urban Decay Good Karma shading brush

Cost: $26 at UrbanDecay.com.
Intended Uses: To assist with contouring and applying eyeshadow on the crease.
Is it effective?: This is the perfect brush to use for really blending out that crease. Even if you don’t have much of a crease or have to fake one. Ahem, like I do. I love that the brush is stiff enough to really GET in the crease but it’s soft enough to eyeshadow a nice airbrushed look.

Good Karma Shadow Brush

Urban Decay Good Karma Shadow brush

Cost: $26 at UrbanDecay.com
Intended Uses: To apply eyeshadow of course, silly!
Is it effective?: Yep! But I like this more for applying powder/loose eyeshadows. This brush dipped in whatever you use to make your loose shadows creamy and then applied to the lid is glorious. It’s a stiffer brush so I didn’t find it as useful when applying pan eyeshadows.

Reasons #493, #494 and #495 to love Urban Decay. That is all.

Have you tried any UD brushes?
