Urban Decay Urban Ammo Eye palette

Ohmigoodness, I can’t believe how little I have talked about Urban Decay here at Clumps of Mascara. What a tragedy considering that UD is one of my favorite brands. I mean, I SWEAR by their eyeliners. I did cartwheels when I first discovered the Primer Potion. And I wanted to marry the eye shadows when I first saw them.

Urban Decay is sheer awesomeness and although they aren’t the cheapest cosmetic brand out there, they are unique and innovative.

I always wanted this palette but never got around to purchasing it. A 15% off coupon from Sephora Beauty Insiders as well as a gift card, however, had to running to Sephora on a lunch break. How beautiful and versatile are these colors?

Sin does well as a browbone color on brown skin! Look out for some of my looks using this palette.

This baby will definitely be going with me on my future travels. I can see myself coming up with quite a few looks be it work appropriate neutral or after 5 fierceness. I am really trying to convince myself that I also need the Deluxe Shadow box.

What do you think? Should I snag it?

Mascara Monday: Urban Decay Fatty Mascara in Black Cherry

It’s Mooooonday!! I know that I will be having a great one. Half day of work=great day! But even greater than that is sharing a pretty funky mascara with you. A reader requested this mascara a while back (okay, like a month…sorry for the delay, chica) and I can’t believe I waiting so long to review it. Check out the review fooooor:

Urban Decay’s Fatty Mascara in Black Cherry

Price: 3 out of 5 ($17 from anywhere Urban Decay products are sold)

Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5

Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “If you love the extra-thickening powers of Big Fatty Mascara, round out your collection with these wearable shades. Turquoise and navy hues give brown and blue eyes a jolt, purple shades make green eyes more dangerous, and burgundy adds drama to any eye color—a refreshing alternative to basic black.”

The truth: Duuude, I mean the red really is red. CRAZY!

What I loved about it: The color payoff on my lashes was really obvious. I didn’t want it to be a subtle touch of color because that would be defeating the purpose of a colorful mascara.

What I didn’t like: The color on the lashes is where it ends for this mascara. Volume? Nooope. Length? Chile please. And ohmigoodness, the flakiness is out of control. And will it last all day? Noooot.

Overall: What a great idea! I’ve seen folx with purple and blue mascara but I really wanted to try the red. I think that it is perfect for a quick pop up color. You know…one of those “goin’ out with the girls nights but only have 12 minutes to get ready” scenarios? A colored mascara gives you a quick pop of color that is noticeable without looking TOO dramatic? Is it for everyday looks? Maybe, depending on how snazzy you are from day-to-day. Definitely not for us folx who work in a strict business setting though. I absolutely adore this mascara! I wish that Urban Decay focused a little more on the formula so that it would give volume or length. But nonetheless, it is fab, yo!

Would I recommend it: Absolutely! The price is a bit steep but I think every gal needs to have a colored mascara in her collection.

The video review will appear later..YouTube was on the trips. Boo!

What do you think about this mascara? Would you or have you tried a colored mascara? Or are you a traditional brown/black mascara wearer?

Oh…wanted to let you pretty people know that I will be in Chicago from Tuesday-Saturday of this week for business. I have a few scheduled posts–most of which will be articles than series post but I hope yall find them interesting. I won’t be totting the laptop but I will have the trusted Blackberry so I be able to check the email and Google Reader. I leave tomorrow and am mad busy with the packing so don’t shoot me cyber-birds for my delayed responses. Muah!!

Primer Comparisons

Happy Thursday, loves!! Can you believe that the weekend is almost here? Yessss!!! I figured I would drop a vid on one of my newest experiments. I haven’t actually compared them side by side like my girl Julie has but one can’t help but be intrigued by the idea that Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance may one up Urban Decay’s Primer Potion.

….to my newbies out there, don’t even think about applying eyeshadow without a primer. The cult fave is Urban Decay Primer Potion (also known as UDPP) but I have also found success in concealer. I just recently purchased Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance and haven’t played around in it much with am glad to see that Julie has done the comparisons.

Check out her video by clicking on the link below.

…..do you have a preference in primers on your lids?

….and have you checked out Clumps of Mascara’s column on MahoganyButterfly.com? I am so fortunate to be able to contribute to a website by and for Black women.

….I have 3 winners from Monday’s contest but I am lookin’ for oooooone more. Guess where I was born win a Palmer’s Lip Butter. Here is the post.

Big love to JulieG. Her YouTube Channel is amazement!

Stay beautiful, lovelies!

…ooohhh and here’s that wonderful v05 Flirting game again. I’ve already played 6 times today.

UDPP has been holdin’ out!

Yall see this?
Guess the product.

Now I know I’m a newbie and just learning some things but pleeeease tell me yall knew about this!

We all know Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, right (did you guess right?)? It is one of my HG and most beloved products. Even if I use a Paint Pot, Paint, concealer or even a Shadestick, I still start with UDPP. We all know that it is also a bit pricey and the shape of the bottle is just…..beyond frustrating. The wand can only go straight down into the tube. Never mind the sides. However, my friend showed me how we can get more product by cutting the tube in half. Now when she told and SHOWED me this I was thinking, “Ehhh….okay, a bit more would be nice.” A “bit” is an understatement. Chopping your UDPP in half will give you about 2-3 more months worth of product. Don’t believe me? Lemme show you!

What you’ll need:

UDPP (of course)
A pretty big knife
A not so big knife
Something to put UDPP in. I was going to use an depotted MAC pot but duhhh, it has holes so I settled for a random empty jar thingie. Sample pigment jars would be perfect though.

[STEP 1]
Start by cutting a knife straight through your UDPP. It may take some time. Make sure you use a cutting board. Forgot to take a pic of this. Sorrryyy..

[STEP 2]
Pull apart your UDPP and get angry at how Urban Decay has been ripping us off.

[STEP 3]
Scoop what you can OUT and place in your new jar. Hmmm, ice cream.

[STEP 4]
But girl, you ain’t done yet. Start slicing the base of the packaging too.

[STEP 5]
Scoop like hell and place everything in your new jar.

Can you believe this? Look how much of the product was still stuck inside of there. This took me all of 5 minutes to do. I say we all start emailing Urban Decay and suggest they find some new packaging for UDPP because this doesn’t make sense. What do you think?

Random post, I know. But in the midst of packing, I got into a depotting mode and then UDPP scooping mode and decided to share with my blog fam. Have a fab weekend, yall!

Peace and fists to Urban Decay!

[thanks Ms. Riss. Get back on the blog updating thang, sis b/c I miss you!]

[EDIT - 4/20/2009] The people have spoken and Urban Decay has revamped the packaging. It now has an angled wand. Check it out HERE. Yay!

Photo-less Thoughts

No pics today….although my eyes look absolutely beautiful (if I must say so myself…LOL).

I’m wearin‘ a turquoise shirt and so I’ve got on 3 colors….Big T, _____ and Vex. I really can’t remember the other color. Oh wait, Shimmermoss, maybe? Yeah…I think I have Shimmermoss and NOT Big T.

Hell, I don’t know. LOL….they look pretty good nonetheless.

I purchased 3 more colors…..went to the Ellenton outlet and was semi-impressed. Not much, but enough. I looked at my collection and realized that I have waaaay too many blues/teals. I have at least 5. That’s enough. I want more wines/reds/pinks and definitely some CRAZY colors. So I’m thinkin‘….

Eyepopping (thanks to ZDazzle!)
Fab & Flashy (I have Orange, but I’m returning it….)
Chrome Yellow
Black Tied (Always wanted a Black e/s)

….some more purples. I have Nocturnelle and LOVE it, but I want at least 2 more. ZDazzle, what do you suggest? I saw yo Color Purple pics!
…….and then I want some nice golds/neutral colors.

I’m so not sticking to my make-up wish list that I made for myself. Oh well….

Did swatches of colors on my Gentil shadestick and they came out lovely. What a great shadestick!! I would rather not invest money on tons of shadesticks b/c mine seems to work well with the colors I have now…..and UPDD does not ever fail me.

Ummm, what else? So I figured out another way to maximize my collection without going bankrupt: Buy used products. Well, used shadows, at least. Some folx sell their brand new/gently used items on Specktra for cheaper prices. That’s right up my alley.

I’m fasting for the next 10 days and I’m hoping that it will clear up my skin. It honestly has NEVER looked this bad. I don’t know what’s goin‘ on. I’m getting dark spots out of no where and such unevenness. I’m drinking as much water as I can and have high hopes that this detox/fast will help me in the skin department.

Tis all.

Peace and Fluidlines.

Blue & Passion (pics)

Wooooop! I’m excited because I got some new colors. *doin’ a dance* So excited. It’s about time because it had been a long looong loooong almost 2-3 weeks since I’ve purchased my last color. So thrilled. So, here’s what I got…

Orange (might be going back)
Ricepaper (also might be going back)
Big T
Romping

Nocturnelle
Coopering

…..and I purchased some color from Milani that is similar to Firespot.

…..no one has Firespot and I’m sooo saddened because I REALLY want it.

So yeah, I don’t like how Orange feels….doesn’t go too well on my eyes and Ricepaper (WTF was I thinking?) I went a little overboard so instead of exchanging them, I may return them. IF I have THAT much will power….which I doubt I do.

——–Oh, wait. I also got an eyebrow pencil with Milani that is wonderful!! I’m doing so much better with my eyebrows!!!!———-

So I tried 2 new looks which I’ve named Blue and Passion. The quality of the pics are terrible because I used my camera phone, so please beware—for some reason the enlargement of these pics make my face look like HELL. I’m not even lyin’…..my skin ain’t as good as it normally is, but it certainly doesn’t look as terrible as the damn Sidekick makes it seem.

So……the colors from Blue are all MAC colors which include:
-Electric Eel on lid
-Tilt on crease
-Vex on browbone (yall know I love my Vex up there)
…..this was a BOLD, in yo face…..”check out the chick with the loud ass blue eyeshadow on” kinda look. And of course, I rocked it, loved it, felt confident, got compliments, and smiled at the hatas alllll at the same time. For some reason, I really don’t care what people think about my eyeshadow. I got some funny looks yesterday, but I shrugged it off and came strollin’ anyway.

Not too bad, uh? Here’s a pic with closed eyes….

Here’s a full face pic:

Now remember……my skin is NOT THAT BAD! I have to keep reiterating it because enlarging this picture depresses me. LOL!!

Okay, sooo passion–I absolutely love. I went and played around with C-Shock colors again yesterday and not only can AFFORD to get the entire collection, but I’m just not in love with all of them. Eyepopping…..ehhhh. Fab & Flashy…….ehh. I mean, I like them. But I’m not tryna go bankrupt tryna get them. I’d rather go bankrupt for something I REALLY want. Ahem, like Firespot from the Moonbathe Collection.Anyway…..Passion’s colors include:
Big T-inner V
Swimming-middle
Romping-outer V (I freakin’ love this damn color!!!!!)
Nocturnelle (liner)
Amberlights-crease
Vex (you know it…..browbone)

…..this is what I got:

*screams* My faaaaace!!! Ugghhhh, I swear I don’t look THAT bad. And of course, I may be being overly critical, but I’d admit if my face looked like I had a flesh eating disease. But it doesn’t—so I don’t know why my phone has to exaggerate to the 194th degree. I’m not wearing any Studio Fix—-remember? I’m trying to ween myself off of foundation. Don’t want to become too dependent on it and feel like I have to wear it every day. When I first got into make-up—-it was supposed to be eye make-up designing. And of course, that entails the WHOLE face (obviously I didn’t know that before) but still….my focus is the eyes.

Ohhhh shooooot……I went in Sephora yesterday and checked out NARS Exhibit A and Taj Mahal blushes and that Taj Mahal is GORGEOUS!!!! Exhibit A is nice, but it looks a little orange. I’m defintely going to have to indulge in that some day.

And then I checked out Urban Decay’s Heat which is a RED (okayyyy, I thought for the longest that red shadows didn’t even exist!) that I absolutely love. I’m going to go back and get it one day. It’s intense. More intense than NARS’ Emmanuel.

So yeah….that’s that!

C-Shock!

C-SHOCK!!!

Today MAC’s newest line came out and I am SOOOO excited. Only, I’m somewhat in a financial hole, so I can’t afford to indulge in these colors like I really want to. :( I thought about purchasing at least one color, but I can’t…..I have to buy at least 2 and that’s gonna run me $20 alone, so I’m just going to have to be patient and wait.

These colors are VIBRANT and will look great on darker skinned folx. ‘Bout time! I want the entire collection!

I’m going out tonight and want to do parrot eyes. I’m going to go home and practice and then do the real thing tonight.

Yessssss…..

New lessons for today?

(1) MAC’s lustres and frost are the best for my eyes. Go more towards them.
(2) Check out NYX brand…..I’ve been hearing good raves about it.
(3) Stick to Make-Up wish list and DO NOT purchase items outside of that list.
(4) Visit MAC Pro store in Orlando with Marissa…..and soon!
(5) Check out Milani’s purples….heard good things about them too.
(6) Eyebrows, eyebrows….work on them b/c they look A MESS!!!
(7) Test myself on the anatomy of the eye

Today’s look:

All MAC products…..UPDD primer (I can’t stress enough how wonderful primer is!!!), Amberlights on Inner V to mid-lid——Trax from mid-lid to outer V and VEX from Crease on up.

A plan

June 11, 2007
WOW, I spent over 2 hours today doing some research….and it almost depressed me. LOL! I have a loooong way to go and a lot to learn before I perfect eye make-up designing. But I’m up to the challenge. I made a wish list. And I really can’t do much until I get these essential items…..Well, that’s not entirely true. But I REALLY have to get the primer. That’s the #1 list on the list.
From MAC:
Brushes:
239 eye shading brush $24
249 large shader brush $26.50
272 small angled shading brush $24
217 blending brush $21.50
Fluidline:
Blitz & Glitz $14.50
Shadows: Steamy (bright bluish-green with golden shimmer-Frost)
Embark (intense reddish brown-Matte)
Woodwinked (warm antique gold-Veluxe Pearl)
Not from MAC:
Michael’s or JoAnn Fabrics for paint set brushes
Eyeshadow Primer Potion from Urban Decay.com
Specktra.net is such a great source! I’m lovin’ it and they have a section of Women of Color. Thank the Lord!! I don’t know how to act, I’m so excited!
I tried a combo yesterday called Jay’s Array which was gorgeous, but the colors were not as rich as I would have liked them to be. Hence the reason why I need that primer. I also tried another called Iraqian Blues which was HOT!!
I need to write down the colors of these combos. I’m makin’ them up myself. I can not believe how much I am into this make-up thing. Goodness….

Seeeeee…..the concept for Jay’s Array is gorgeous, but I need to work on my blending and defintely need to get some primer so that the colors will POP out more.
