There is no more important accessory that what you’re carrying.
In some ways, it identifies you.
I mean, I’m not saying that’s a GOOD thing but whether I’m rolling with a plastic bag or designer piece, if I truly want to make a statement, more times than not, it comes from what I’m wearing on my shoulder or arm.
This starts when you’re young, too. When back to school season rolls around, your nearest big box store will be flooded with bookbags for all colors, styles and sizes. This isn’t by accident. Brands know that for every individual person there is, there’s a person who wants something different when it comes to toting bags around.
And then there’s Africa On My Back.
The brilliant brand comes to us from Shanette Prince, a Texan mother of 2 who knew the importance of the accessory that many of us use and need daily. After being inspired after a trip from Africa, she birthed Africa On My Back. And it’s more than just bags. Proceeds from purchases make it so that African-American boys in Texas and beyond can receive the empowerment they need to go forth in the world.
We NEED brands like this.
And so I’m loving my bag. I get asked about it constantly. I’ve used it as a bag for rolling with kid thangs and I’ve taken it to the beach and to the airport. It has joined me to meetings, photoshoots and to the office. I take it with me everywhere.
I’m thrilled to see a smaller version of these bags because I plan on getting one for EB to use as her gym bag.
And the best news about Africa On My Back is that these bags and accessories are made by artisans in Ghana, West Africa.
Yes, girl.
I’m proud of everything this brand has been doing and can’t wait to keep supporting!
