Special thanks to Disney for sponsoring this delicious opportunity.
There’s something comforting about southern food. I don’t eat it often but girl, when I’m not worried about calories and just want some flavorful and fulfilling food, I always think about some good ole’ southern cookin’.
I meeeean, YES, you can absolutely have the same experience while eating raw vegan dishes but what can I say? I’m a diverse eater.
Back when the family and I did a Disney FAM trip, we were treated to dinner at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’.
Can we talk about how much Disney Springs has changed over the years? Part of me gets weepy at the transformation that is the Downtown Disney that I grew up with to what is now Disney Springs. But, I have to admit…it’s pretty spectacular. Homecomin’ is nestled nicely in an area of the Springs that isn’t too far from the parking lots – right in The Landing.
If you love Florida-inspired (sans the seafood) meals and southern-centric dishes, you’ll find Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ appealing.
I do, however, recommend, you check the menu thoroughly if you have a very specific diet. While I find most Disney restaurants are great accommodating guests to the best of their abilities, this is the kind of restaurant that goes hard with gluten and dairy.
Unapologetically, at that.
We were able to try a spread of some of the delicious offerings and while it was pretty tough to nail down a winner, I will say Homecomin’ is SPECTACULAR at their appetizers – or, Sunrise Starters as they call them.
From the Church Lady Deviled Eggs and those homemade biscuits…my goodness! You absolutely can’t go wrong.
I think it’s a crime that so many restaurants in Florida don’t serve grits so when I saw Shrimp & Grits on the menu, I geeked out.
I’m not a lover of shrimp but lemme tell you about those grits…
Also, what’s a southern meal without fried chicken and macaroni and cheese?
I didn’t get around to dabbling in everything (I was actually limiting gluten during this trip…*weeps*) but so many of the menu items were so incredibly compelling.
-Hush Puppy Benedict
-Fried Green, Eggs and Ham
-Hallelujah Biscuit
-Addie Mae’s Chicken & Dumpling Soup
-Fried Chicken Salad
Couple that with some of their Moonshine Mash, a Blueberry Mimosa or White Peach Sangria and you’ll be all set to spend the rest of your day in bliss.
I highly recommend visiting this spot if you enjoy some good southern eatin’. Also, be sure to save some room for their desserts.
Thank me later….
