The Year of 2018 is the year that I was truly burned out by social media. Okay, so I think 2017 is when I started to feel the effects of the burnout but nevertheless, here we are.
Social media burnout is so real. I’m shocked by those who work in this industry and don’t feel the need to toss a table every now and then. This can’t be just me, right? I find social media so incredibly exhausting. The nonstop chatter, the breaking news every 2 seconds, the onslaught of opinions by literally everyone, the sharing, the thoughts, the ups and downs, the changes in platforms that force you to learn their new systems within days…yeesh!
And you know, don’t get me wrong. I’m grateful to work in social media. I joined Twitter and Facebook just months after they launched. I went from one field and by myself (literally no hookups from Daddy or an old college friend) launched a career in social media. How freaking cool is that? I know that I’ll have plenty of dope stories to tell my littles about how mama was some cool techie who played on the internet and got paid to do it.
That doesn’t mean a girl doesn’t get weary from year to year.
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’ve stepped away from social media quite a bit this year. Not only is my mental health a supreme priority right now, I’m also finding that I just don’t have much to say. About well…anything. And not only do I not want to talk as much, I also don’t feel like reading about anyone else’s thoughts and opinions.
Seriously. Somehow all of that chatter sits with me for hours and days and ugh, it’s just too much, y’all. It is entirely too much.
And so to keep in touch without actually keeping in touch, I’ve been using CoSchedule. CoSchedule is a MUST HAVE tool for us social media and blogging kids who have to chat all day. I’ve been using CoSchedule for years and years and it gives me the ability to schedule and publish content to all of my social media account without me having to do it.
Because, YES. Even though I need to get away from time to time, I don’t want to leave you guys hanging. I want to share with you the cool happenings as they happen and even some blast from the past features.
And so, we can all thank CoSchedule for making this a possibility. I can now disappear but won’t leave my social media accounts in the dust on account of my need to take a break.
Although ideal for those of us who work in social media, CoSchedule is also really cool for my business ownin’ folx. Whether you work solo or with a team, scheduling tasks, seeing things at a glance and keeping everyone in the loop is so incredibly easy.
Let this be a lesson to y’all…work smarter, not harder. Don’t be afraid to take a break and if you need to, implement tools that can have your back so that you can lay your back down.
Hopefully on a beach chair on some island.
