This girl loves any facial experience. Any.kind. You name the service or technique and chances are, I will try it. So when I was invited to check out Mikah Salon and Urban Galleria here in Orlando, you know I had to make my way in.
And when I make my way into salons, I tend to lean more to the funkier and edgier ones. You know, ones that have a particular vibe or stand out in some way. Maybe it’s the products or ingredients they use. Maybe their service is known to be top notch. Or maybe they just happen to have an art gallery/studio INSIDE their salon.
Such is the case with Mikah.
Located in one of my favorite areas of Orlando, the College Park area (and not far from my ladies at the Naked Bar Soap Company), Mikah Salon and Urban Galleria take pride in honoring individuality. As we should, right? Coming in for a service is one thing but leaving inspired and ready to take on the world is something else.
Art is so good at inspiring us, isn’t it?
Mikah is home to dozens of artists and creators. Just about everything you see is for sale and homemade and crafted.
Basically, this place is a real-life Pinterest board.
Want a true challenge? Roll up in there and try your hardest not to snag anything. It’s practically impossible. The art and pieces change regularly, by the season, whenever and as needed.
Owner and Stylist Ruthie Phaneuf has an eye for design and only includes pieces in Mikah that she feels can be inspiring.
She’s pretty fabulous. I chatted with her a bit and you can tell she loves what she does. And let’s face it…this is what you need when you have someone doing your hair, am I right? While I walked around drooling, my real purpose for visiting Mikah was to enjoy a round of dermaplaning!
I first heard about dermaplaning a few years ago and of course, yours truly wanted to do it. I never took the leap though. Something about removing hair from your skin just didn’t sit well with me.
Would my hair grow back hairy and wild?
What if I cut myself?
Is this ideal for those with darker skin?
What about ingrown hairs?
Jami Harris at Mikah did such a fantatsic job at not only educating me but making me feel comfortable during the entire process.
Special thanks to her for being so incredibly patient with me and answering all of my questions. She was such an integral part of helping me put together this video.
Thanks to my chemical exfoliant and regular AHAs and BHAs, I think my skin is almost as smooth and wonderful as a round of dermaplaning.
In or around the Orlando area? Visit Mikah Salon and Urban Galleria and tell them I sent you!
