Somehow I blinked, managed to do something right and well…I became an adult.
Do you remember the first time you became an adult? Cozy on up for a quick story time so I can tell you about that time I felt like “Ayyyyy, I made iiiiit! I’m an adult.”
Hint: If you cheer when you realize you’re an adult, you may not actually be deep into adulting. File that under things I should have told younger me. But anyway…
Back in 2007, I accepted an AmeriCorps service term in South Central LA. Is it still called that? I’m not sure but roll with me anyway. In November of that year, my Dad got me a ticket to NYC so that I could join the family for Thanksgiving. And so…22-year old me left the convent she was living in (that’s a story for another day), took the bus to the airport and sat waiting for her plane. Only it was delayed. For hours. Many hours. And then it was delayed for an entire day. I was stranded at the airport and after whining to my dad, he booked me a hotel stay at the airport.
Y’all…a freaking hotel room. By.myself.
Up until that point, I had never stayed in a hotel room without parents or friends. I remember swiping that key and feeling like a rockstar. Like I had made it.
Living away from home since 18? Meh. Whatever. I was staying in a hotel room by myself. You couldn’t tell me nothin’.
I get that same feeling when I actually wash my face regularly.
Don’t laugh. Having a skincare regimen that I can stick to and that yields fantastic results? Well shoot, girl…that makes me feel allllll grown up. And I love it.
Remember a few weeks back when I told you I was doing a fun challenge with Olay? The results are IN.
For 28 days, I used the following products…
- Olay Luminous Micellar Water – used this bad boy to thoroughly cleanse and refresh the skin. I’m also using it as a makeup remover for face AND eye products.
- Olay Luminous Miracle Boost Concentrate – because dumping a moisturizer on your skin may work but patting a product like this concentrate on your skin not only boosts hydration but it feels so incredibly refreshing.
- Olay Luminous Hydrating Light Lotion – this is probably the most moisturizing moisturizer (hehe, say that 5x times fast!) that I’ve tried in a while. I’m missing not having SPF but I love how lightweight this is. It’s a wonderful lotion for summer days but I can also see it working beautifully for chilly days.
- Olay Regenerist Luminous Overnight Mask – was my absolute favorite product of the bunch. On days I didn’t sleep like a wild woman and get this all over my pillowcase, I would wake up to noticeably smoother and softer skin. Applying it felt like I was giving myself a nice little facial treatment and the difference in my skin was immediate.
Not too shabby, right?
Would you recommend?
I would! First of all, can we talk about how every single one of these products were virtually fragrance-free? Can you hear me cheering? That’s a big deal for people like me who can’t deal with floral bombs being dumped into skincare and body care products.
Radiant skin? YES
Got hyperpigmentation under control? YES
Dark spots at bay? ALMOST
I truly believe it takes longer than 28 days to see extreme results but if you’re asking me if after 28 days, did these Olay Luminous products have my skin looking better than when I started?
Yes, girl.
YES.
So there you have it. At 22, I felt like an actual adult and at 32, I’m adulting so hard that I can stick to a skincare regimen and come on the other side looking goooooood.
Don’t ask me if I’m adulting well, though. This blog is called Clumps of Mascara so I know you already know the answer to that.

Let me know what you think if you buy the water. I’m still using it and think it’s excellent!
