I dreamt about an in-home office for yearsssss. I finally made it happen a few years back. While I do a great deal of work outside of the house, I still like to have a dedicated office space so that I can plug in without stepping on my chiren’s toys.
Have you ever stepped on a Lego or tiny babydoll with bare feet?
I’d rather go to the dentist on my birthday than go through those experiences again.
The Clumps HQ is (mostly) a kid-free paradise.
My current setup has been this way for about 3 years. A few things have changed but for the most part, the desk and tech setup are about the same. I do have visions of redesigning my space with a different color (I am SO drawn to royal purple) but there is something so attractive about this turquoise.
As a Florida girl, I don’t venture far from colors and shades that remind me palm trees and the ocean.
I honor my space thoroughly because this room not only acts as my office but also a guest room, sometimes playroom and sometimes a Meeting place for me and Esposo.
Lights + Tech
OttLite Parker Table Lamp – I received this as a press sample and I’m not sure how I did without it. Ideal for late night working, reading and polishing my nails, this lamp not only keeps my room looking chic but it’s just such a delight to use.
Philips Hue Light Strip – Yours truly is a supreme geek and tech’y. Having a Smart Office is what my dreams are made up so I made it happen. The Light Strip is lined along the back of my desk and powered by Alexa.
Amazon Echo Dot – It’s my in-office assistant and I’ve got Echo products scattered across the house. It only made sense to have one in the office.
Computers ‘n Stuff
This isn’t fancy but I have a MacBook Pro, HP monitor and Dell computer. Don’t ask me to pick between a PC and a Mac. I like them both. Just like I like Apple and Android.
Keyboard covers – If you haven’t noticed, I LOVE rainbows and rainbow-colored thangs. I regularly switch out my keyboard covers but my desktop and monitor usually always sport some bright color. And yes, my desktop is always that clean, y’all. Don’t judge me.
Tools of the Trade
Let me tell you how much I love RSVP Pens. I’ve been using them since high school and they’re my favorite. All I need in life are good pens, a decent highlighter, scissors and a Sharpie.
Notebooks and notepads of various sizes make me happy. Sometimes I need lines and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I need a book and sometimes I need the freedom to unattached paper.
My favorite, though? These Short List Stick Notes from The Planning Collective are excellent!
Desk Books and Putty
Cover your eyes, prudes. Esposo snagged this book of quotes for me and when I’m stuck in a rut flipping through this makes me happy. The quotes are hilarious, to the point and so needed when I need to get out of my own head.
I’m a natural pessimist.
Does that sound horrible?
I’ve always been a glass is half empty kind of girl. I’ve been working on this for years and I find that seeking gratitude helps me stay positive. I don’t write in this daily but keeping it on my desk reminds me to either write something or glance at something. It helps.
Is it weird that I like putty? Call me weird then. When I’m brainstorming or on a conference call or I just need to keep my hands busy because I’m feeling anxious for whatever reason, I pull out my Crazy Aarons Thinking Putty.
I purchased My Dream Year Planner Workbook monthssss ago and it sat lookin’ pretty on my bookshelf. I have yet to crack it open but I plan to in the incoming year. Designed by my girl Bernetta of Bernetta Style, this workbook and coloring book will work wonders for helping me achieve personal goals. I can’t wait to use it!
Gotta See It To Believe It
I NEED positive affirmations all around me. These frames get the job done.
I don’t exactly have a green thumb but I think it says a lot that I’ve managed to keep this plant alive for more than 2 years. She’s fine, ain’t she? I love plants. They remind me of Mother Nature’s power, energy and how we’re all living and breathing.
I know. Too deep, huh? *snort*
And there we have it. My desk and the area around my desk. I love everything about it. I’ve made magic happen at this desk and can’t wait to see what else I can crank out. The next biggest novel may be written here because…
…why NOT me?
