I will never not color my hair, y’all. I’ve been doing this since I was a 14-year old and it’s a habit that likely won’t ever end. Speaking of dyeing my hair at 14…I can’t be the only one that used Kool-Aid packets! Are you judging me? I hope not! Don’t knock it ’til you try it, girl. 4 packets of Orange and 1 packet of Cherry would bring about a gorgeous shade. Mama has grown up since then and now I’m using more refined products.
Or something like that…HA!
Manic Panic
Manic Panic and I go way back. I’ve been using this dye for about 10 years now and I love how it’s gentle, fume-free and just EFFECTIVE. It’s a semi-permanent dye (which means it won’t last forever) but it does a great job at depositing color. Aaaand, they’re affordable and available online AND at Sally Beauty Supply. Woot!
Cantu Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque
I first tried this masque about a year ago (remember this post?) and I’ve been loving it ever since. Creamy and moisturizing, I find that this deep conditioner does a fantastic job on my color-treated hair. To keep that color around, I like to drop a few dollops of my Manic Panic color in the conditioner.
Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner
You can neeeeeeever have to do much moisturization in color treated hair. I’ve got a little bleach in my hair and it literally sucks the moisture out of my hair. I do the deep conditioning but from day to day, I find that little spritz of water and then spritzing this Jane Carter Leave-In Condish on top is just niiiiice. A little goes a long way, it isn’t heavy and it prevents my hair from feeling crispy.
Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo
My hair is currently purple but even when I was teal and blonde, I loved how great this shampoo worked. It deposits pigments in your color-treated hair and helps the color stay vibrant and for longer. Aaaand, I love that it prevents blonde from getting brassy. This is an issue for me since I’m always in the Florida sun. Yeesh.
Satin Pillow Case/Bonnet
Okay, this is a staple for all of my natural haired sisters but especially those of us with color-treated hair. Not only does the satin help styles last longer, I find that they prevent me from getting hair dye all over my bed sheets.

I want a satin pillow case but they are so expensive.
Sameeee with the hair coloring. Always happening. Always. My gram is in her 80’s and her hair has always been black. I’ve never seen a gray on that woman and never will.
I have always heard that satin pillow cases really worked. I need to try that! I must agree, too, about Clairol Shimmering LIghts. I should have included that in mine, too! 🙂
I need a satin bonnet!
i need to get my life right… i want to use some manic panic in my hair!
