Can you believe that there are actually people who like makeup but have never tried a red lipstick? I know, I KNOW! Who ARE these people? I hear it allllll the time.
“Red lipstick doesn’t look good on me.”
“It’s not professional. My job wouldn’t allow it.”
“I look like a clown when I wear red lipstick.”
“It’s just…it’s just SO bold.”
I get it. Not everyone is here for bright colors on the lips. I can accept this. I mean, my goodness…I’m rocking pink hair and lime green nail polish. Clearly, I’m okay with bright color but not everyone is. But still. If I found out that you haven’t even tried a red lipstick, I make it my duty to at least get one on your lips. Just to seeeeee how you react. Because, my goodness, there’s just something so fabulous about a red lipstick.
Yeah, I know we’re supposed to be all strong and not need makeup and blah blah blah but a red lipstick can make you feel powerful. It deposits a bit of confidence in your tank and sometimes that’s all you need to get through to another day. Trust me on this.
And NARS Rita Audacious Lipstick? I mean, where do we even start with this pretty?
Our girl Rita is all dolled up in red packaging this season and it’s fitting that a red this spectacular is set apart from the traditional black packaging that NARS gives us.
And at first swatch, I was like, “Yessss! This is SO going to be my kind of red.” In the past few years, I’ve only come across a few red lipsticks that were major hits. There’s Cherry Bomb from COVERGIRL, a stunner from Smashbox, a beauty from IMAN Cosmetics. I knew that Rita wasn’t going to let me down and I was so ready to re-impress myself each time I took that red tube of red lipstick out of my purse to reapply.
But on my lips? Nope. It’s just not my red. Not even a little. I could tweak this bad boy up with a darker lip liner and make it work but straight up on my lips with no chaser? No bueno.
It has too much orange for me and I look so much better with blue-toned reds. That’s okay, though. I love NARS enough to know that there’s another red for me. And that Rita is probably goooooooorgeous on someone else.
But look babe, if you want to deck your halls with this lipstick in the limited edition red packaging, I’d jump quickly. It goes in and out of stock every other week so save your $32 and stalk Sephora’s site like it’s your job.
