I had the opportunity to interview one of hottest makeup artists in the game. Saisha Beecham has done makeup for several stars including Janelle Monae, Ashley Tisdale, P.Diddy, Usher, Vanessa Hudgens and one of my favorite actresses, Nia Long. Impressive, uh? I had a few minutes to chit-chat with Saisha. Peep the interview. Y’all know me…I couldn’t ask those boring and typical interview questions. 😉
In attempts to not make this a boring interview, I will start with something random. What’s your favorite candy and would you rather use a PC or a Mac?
My favorite candy? Lol It would have to be something chocolate so I would have to definitely say Tolberone Candy Bars! I love them! I’m definitely just a simple PC girl. Never did get into the MAC thing. Too complicated.
Okay, now that we’ve broken the ice a bit, tell me a little bit about how you got
I started assisting other artists and in the meantime, I was constantly at the book store reading up on different makeup techniques and building up my kit by buying something new once a week. So when it came time to go out on my own, I was ready.
If you didn’t choose doing make-up as a career, what other tracks would you have taken?
I’d probably be a famous actress! Lol I always say I would have starred in a movie next to Denzel Washington.
So how cool is Nia Long? She’s like my make-believe cousin.
Too funny! Nia is great! Super down to earth. I love her because she knows what she wants and trusts me to deliver it for her.
I know it’s hard to choose, but what are you top 3 favorite make-up brands?
That’s a really hard question to answer because I have different favorites for different people. If I narrowed it down per person, I’d say my favorites for Nia would be Smashbox, for all their great fresh colors; Bobbi Brown, for their creamy concealers which are great on Nia; and YSL, for their great tinted moisturizers which are great when added to Nia’s foundation.
Do you have any advice for brown girls who are just getting started with buying and applying make-up?
Well I’m a brown girl so I know this area firsthand. Golds look great on the eyes and I love copper toned blush to compliment the cheeks. Most brown girls don’t realize it but they can wear a wide range of colors on the lips. Just stay away from orange undertones in your red lip color choices. If you’re just starting out, don’t be heavy-handed. Just keep it light and simple and wear lots of mascara!!
