I looooooove Smashbox. They’re one of my favorite brands. They’re one of those brands that has spectacular products but they aren’t all in your face about it. No showy advertisements, annoying endorsements or frills from these folx. Nope. They keep it simple. Great products. The end. I purchased this mascara some weeks back because it has literally been calling my name for, ooooh, I don’t know…some months now. And I’ve got HIGH expectations for this Smashbox X-Rated mascara. Yes sir, I do.
Price: $22 from Ulta stores and Ulta.com
Packaging (brush wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5
What I Loved About It: Yes to this fabulous wand that really brings those lashes out.
What I Didn’t Like: Ehhhh, the volume is okay but really it’s just not as THERE as I’d like it to be.
Overall: Well, you know…I truly expected more from this one. Truthfully, I’m not happy at the state of my lashes and so it’s really hard to see how well a mascara does when your lashes are all wonky. Okay, yes…they are usually always wonky but lately they seem to appear shorter than normal. Allergies and my rubbing them constantly doesn’t help either.
Still, there are certain things you want from a mascara even if your lashes suck. The wand is pretty stellar, though. With short but effective bristles, those babies are stiff and long enough to really grab each and every lash. So…yay to this! The formula tricked me because I also thought it would be able to keep up with the bristles and when you sweep the wand through the lashes, the mascara is deposited nicely and evenly on the lashes.
So what’s the problem? The formula, for some reason, just doesn’t do anything. It provided my lashes with a good amount but the umph just wasn’t there. Where’s the volume? Where’s the length? Where’s the…something? Yeah. There was nothing. But you know what? This is all so very unfortunate because the formula is pretty stellar. It stays on the lashes for quite some time and removes easily.
See! You can barely see the mascara on my lashes. Boooo.
Do I recommend it?: Nope, I’d skip this one. Too bad, so sad, Smashbox.
I thought I was the only one having issues with good ole’ Smashbox X-Rated mascara but after reading several reviews online, it looks as if a lot of makeup lovin’ folx are having issues with volume. Maybe their next mascara will woo us.
