When I was 5 (or somewhere around that age), I flipped out of one of those battery-operated cars and chipped my front tooth.
I rocked a chipped front tooth until about 7 when that tooth fell out and because life is hilarious, guess what my 5-year old is currently rockin’?
You guessed it. A chipped front tooth. We’re not sure how EB chipped this tooth (Parents of the Year awards may not go to us), but after taking her to the dentist to have it looked at, it turns out she’s fine. The dentist couldn’t stop complimenting us on how well we’ve been taking care of her teeth.
And okay, I know it’s going to sound a bit snobbish, but yours truly has great teeth. I do! I attribute it mostly to genetics, but despite the fact that I have an unhealthy relationship with sugar, I didn’t get cavities until I was an adult. I’ve never had braces and while I have a gap between my two front teeth, you couldn’t pay me to close it. My teeth are mostly white and I’ve never had any surgeries or major tooth or gum issues. So yeah…a lot may be genetic, but then a lot is also because I’ve been pretty serious about dental care since I was a child.

Naturally, my darling little munchkins have no choice but to also fall in line with intentional and regular dental care. Yes, even at 2 years old.
Regular visits to the dentist are also important because even though we don’t have any issues, I want my kids to be comfortable with regularly going so that they don’t fear the dentist the way many adults do.
We take dental care seriously in this house. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Florida KidCare makes it easy for children in Florida to get their dental checkups. In addition to covering preventive services like cleanings, exams and sealants, restorative services and surgeries are also included. Parents can rest easy knowing that no matter what kind of dental services their children may need, there is a great chance that Florida KidCare covers it.
And look! The kids helped me make a video!
Happy brushing!
