I know. I know. We aren’t even done with 2015 but I’ve been reading like a mad woman and I thought I’d share some of my literary loves. This month I’ve been in a bit of a slump. My sister and I are reading Harry Potter and ohmigoodnesssss…these books never end! I’m on Book #3 and honestly? I’m over it. I’m trying to push myself to read it but between my irritation with that and pregnancy fatigue, I’m just taking a little step away from reading right now. Don’t worry, I’ll be back. And hopefully I reach my goal of 52 books before the end of 2015. That said, the following books have changed my world this year.
The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini
This author is becoming one of my favorites because I fall in love with everything he writes. The Kite Runner is so imaginative and emotional that I found myself really connecting with the characters and the things that they went through. It’s a quick read and it’s a book that you’ll be a little bit sad over once it ends.
Americanah
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Add Chimamanda has one of my favorite authors of ALL time. I feel smarter just by reading her material because she makes me head to the dictionary to look up words she uses. If you enjoy books about race and culture, especially as it relates to Africans living abroad, you will LOVE this book.
The Girl on the Train
by Paula Hawkins
Sometimes you need a little mystery in your life. This book took turns that literally had me on the edge of my seat. Nothing was expected! It was a fantastic read and I’d love to see this turned into a movie.
Life of Pi
by Yann Martel
Ooooh, the pictures my mind produced while reading this book. Technically, I listened to it via audiobook but I felt so immersed in the adventure and feelings of the main character. I saw the movie shortly after and was so disappointed.
Mom & Me & Mom
by Maya Angelou
I love everything Ms. Angelou puts her hands on so I knew I’d love this. I enjoyed getting some history about one of my favorite authors through her final autobiography.
Have you been reading this summer? Tell me what you’ve enjoyed so I can add it to my ever flowing list!

I wish you the best of luck powering through the Harry Potter and continuing on your 52 books this year goal. I know you can do it! 😀 I read Life of Pi many years ago and felt like I was in the boat with them. Amazing. Also, I just read The Girl on the Train a couple of months ago and WOWZERS. I loved it. Such a twisty little thrill ride of “HOLD UP – WHAAAAT?!?!?” emotions. I need to read the Maya book. My mother in law has a bedroom in her house called “The Maya Angelou Room” filled with her works and framed poems and such. They live in Winston-Salem, where Ms. Angelou also lived, and my father in law met her a few times and said she was incredibly warm. She even remembered his name the second time they met!
What a very cool story! Your FIL knew such a legendary person! But yes, check out her book. It’s a super fast read but incredibly warm and loving. I want to read it again! Wish me luck and I continue diving into Potter. Yeeesh!
I haven’t read any of these but The Life of Pi is on my list!!!
Yessss, check it out. It is definitely one of my top favorite books of all time!
Will do!
Mom & Me & Mom is on my list of books to read. I need to look into the others, too. I have been so bad about reading this year. This was inspiration and motivation to do better! Thanks so much for sharing your list.
